J2ME support in XDA III
Hi,
well I actually won't answer your question. But I need some help from you
You task seems to be similar with mine
I am going to buy a PDA2K i-mate (XDAII it isn't?) an I was wondering if J2ME MIDP2.0 is supported on the device. Do you know if it comes with a Java Virtual Machine on it? (that supports J2ME MIDP 2.0)
For what you are asking... I looked for the same thing but I couldn't find anything. What I tried to do is to install the J9 JVM on the Pocket PC emulator provided by Microsoft. But although I managed to install it on the emulator I couldn't use it. I couldn't run Java apps on the Pocket PC
Thanks

Coding Java WITH XDA??? Where can I download JDK? Please!Hlp

Hi there,
does anyone know where I can find a Java Developer Kit, to write java programs ON (with) my XDA? I need it to do my homework for university when I have some free time there...
Maybe someone has some experience with that?
I took a look at Sun but I was not able, after hours of searching, to find anything for PPC.
I would be very glad to read some tips!

Java for XDA
Hi Timo,
I had this problem it is a bit confusing - what you need to look for is:-
'J2ME' on the sun web site.
I am writting stuff for my XDA and wanted to use java - unfortunatly the XDA does not come with embeded java so you need to install the correct jvm (ARM) onto your XDA before any software will run.
I decided to use embeded c - if you know c this is great becuase it is free and works on any Windows CE system.
I have just switch to C# however to keep my hand into a few languages.
Try the above search on the sun site - if you have any problems let me know and I will pull out the URL's for you.

XDA Data Driven Application Architecture - Language choice

Hi
Similar to the GPS upload thread, I am interested in writing an app to talk to TomTom5 SDK (maybe with or without the TTNC Java/VB wrapper), and upload the data to a Web service.
I am primariliy a Java developer, but have found very little about Java support the XDA... I need to develop for XDA T-Mobile MDA HTC Blue Angel - O/S WME 2002/2003. ..
I have trawled the forums and read a couple of mentions of Java, but nothing conclusive as to what the current situation is with regards to support VM's etc..
Can anyone clarify:
a) What are the supported JVM's
b) If none, what other languages are being used to develop the apps? (is it just VB .NET?)
:?:
java support
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=19415&highlight=java
http://www.ewesoft.com/Downloads/Downloads.html
other languages you can use
c#
c++
both are miles ahead of vb imho
Hiya
I do a lot of work with TomTom and it's SDKs, originally using embedded VB and now C#. One thing to note... I don't think the TTTNCF wrapper for the TT5 SDK (I assume this is the wrapper you mean?!) will work with Java! As far as I'm aware it's .NET only - tho that said I haven't had time to play with the new TT5 version yet
C# or Java
Hi
Yes I am guessing I only need the TTNC wrapper if I am using .NET because if I use Ewe Java, I can talk straight Java to the TomTom SDK, is that your understanding? (I think the SDK is Java)...
Can I ask why you chose C# over Java/Ewe ?
and also, if I choose to develop using .NET C#, can I talk to a Java web service (ie. Axis published)? or do I have to talk to a Microsoft .NET published Web Service?
ms hate java so java is much much more limited on the mw platform
even more limited in many ways then on a normal nokia cellphone
dont know if the tomtom sdk is java but it's odd if it is because normaly pocketpc's dont have java support unless you install 3th party software
so unless tomtom include a JVM then it's not java

tanks very much cruisin. I am really appreciated
inmarsat - have you seen another emulator other than the ones built into evc? It would be cute. The evc one is most (or only!? )useful for developers I guess.

the key point is not evc, it's wether the emulator is a PPC one or an mobile phone one, coz they have got different OS
I think
EVC has an emulator for PPC and Smartphone, Win Mobile 2003 and Win Mobile 5 I think. Just download each of the SDKs.

ok

both from microsoft website? i only found ppc emulator with evc. anyway, il have a look at it as you suggested.
thanks 4 ur suggestion!
of course, your code needs to be compiled to run on the emulator. You can't just take normal StrongArm (ie real) PDA programs and run them on the emulator.
Hope the info helps. BTW, I think microsoft will post out free demo disks of the SDKs and visual studio if you look around on the website.
V
Hi.
The "emulators" inside the PPC 200x SDKs / WinCE SDKs are not really emulators.
They can be seen as swappers, because they do not emulate ARM processors.
If you need a real PocketPC / Smartphone emulator with real ARM emulation,
than try google: "device emulator", "Windows CE 5.0 Device Emulator", "device emulator 1.0"
You will find (an unofficial) emulator/ emulators, which is/was/were also developed by $Micro****$.

Hi,
i'm not a developer but i can say that Java J2ME is not very used on pocketpc platform (many PPC do not even have any java support). If you wanna develop managed code then go for .Net (vb or c#) or you can make native applications in c++. The problem is you'll need to buy MS Visual Studio (unluckily, the free Visual Studio Express doesn't support mobile devices). AFAIK
Bye
try using search for J2ME
you'll find tons of posts about it
most likely an url to where you can download the wm too

By looking on this page I'm feeling that this programs are new Java virtual machines. I'm looking for an emulator for the Java machine implemented in HTC. Almost all brands have theire emulator for "sun wireless tool kit" but thanks for the URL !

forget the above URL - it's REALLY outdated. Read the MIDlet Bible instead - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=The (Java) MIDlet Bible
(and, ALWAYS search the Wiki first!)
