O2 XDA IIi ... - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Can anyone who has purchased a XDA IIi tell me what colour it comes in? I was hoping it would have been in black like th XDA IIs? Also does the XDA IIi come with an integrated qwerty keyboard?
Many regards
Nya

Hi shanedean,
could you PLEASE report versions of:
bootloader
Radio ROM
OS ROM
???
THANX a lot
buzz

Just so i can get this clear in my head, ami right in saying the XDA IIi
- has no integrated keyboard
- has no built in WIFI

http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i.html

Wrong wrong !! ..it has wifi builtin!

Wrong wrong !! ..it has wifi builtin!

Hi, don't know how to check bootloader version, sorry. If you let me know how then I'd be glad to help.
Anyhow;
ROM version 1.10.00 WWE
ROM date 12/24/04
Radio version 1.00.00
Protocol version 1337.39
Ext ROM version 1.10.124 WWE
Anything else that you'd like to know ( and can explain how I find it ) just ask.

well on the website the xdaIIi looks better then xdaII the major fact and improvement is 1.3 Mega Pixel Camera and the memory and wi-fi but does it really do what it says ?? is it worth dumping xdaII and going for xdaIIi......on paper its no doubt beating xdaII but in actuall is it A SOLID MASTER PIECE LIKE XDAII ??

Improvements I can see...
Built in wifi
Proper version of 2003SE
Way better bluetooth including listening to MP3's
Seems generally quick even in non-turbo mode
WMP10
Smart Dialing. Can easily find contacts and read numbers from sim
Phone Pad is cool. Can use T9 in any app
Can't really compare the camera as I almost never used it on the II and don't have any use for it on the IIi.

Ok for me this is some news......
1.Way better bluetooth including listening to MP3's
Are you sayin that you can listen to mp3's on BT HEADSET (Stereo Quality) ???
Also can you take out some pics from your XDAIIi under (artificial) house light and in sun light and post them here just so that i can see whats the camera resolution and stuff. (WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THAT)
As i am planning to dump my xdaII for xdaIIi just becaz it has 1.3 Mega Pixel and built in Wi-Fi.

Just my fhorts on the XDA2i.....
As to the Camera, it just as crap as the XDA2 or XDA2s but now it takes bigger crap pictures, a typical picture set to XL size is around 185kb. One thing tho i seems to take 2 seconds to take the picture, I.E you push the capture button then move to phone you take a picture of a blur.
The turbo mode.... not sure if i see any differance
the WiFi says it connects at 11MBs where as my XDA2 + sandisk card and the XDA2s only said 2MBs, not that i care as long as it connects, and it sure dose the range is as good as my laptop, Far better than XDA2 and 2s.
it did have a nice little icon on the task bar i surpose you call it on the bottom right to rotate the screen, anyway i nstalled the o2-plus-1.5 and it made it very slow, so i removed it and it has stolen the nice screen rotate icon
the desk stand is of corse the same as the XDA2 the battery is the same fitting, size and looks, but is now 1300 ma/h were the XDA2 is 1200 mh/a i still have a old XDA2 battery (thank god) as the 2i loves to eat up battery power
i liked the XDA2 but wonted the built in WiFi as i never had the sandisk WiFi card with me, so of corse as soon as i could i got a PDA2k, then changed to the 2s as soon as o2 had them in the UK, i never used the keyboard on it, and the microphone was crap, also as the bluetooth did not work, i am so pleased to get what i always wonted a XDA2 with WiFi built in.
as to windows media player 10, not sure what all the fuss is about
it now has 60mb of storage but 1GB SD cards only costing £40 not suck a problem,
as yet i have not tried WiFiFoFun or TT3 bluetooth on it...
As to bluetooth its version 3900 where that latest i found for the 2s was 3500...
The connection icons at the top are a little more helpfull, but no clock on the bar at the top.
i cant find my old XDA2 battery (sorry backpack) to try and keep it lasting a bit longer, i will find it and try it ( and put something in the PCMCIA solt) rather than just as a battery and report how it goes
the Bluetooth for the headset works as good as it did in the XDA2, not perfect but a million times better than the 2s...
So as you can see from the above, I like to have the latest phone, I dont use technicle (cant spell it either) words, and i HATE the 2s.
As to the 2s i have some bits for them that will go on ebay please see the pic
Thanks for reading and please ask me any questions as long as you dont mind a non technicale answer

How is it possible to move the clock from up on the bar to the today screen items?
Is this ROM available for XDA II?

not sure how to remove the clock, not even sure it was there to start with but the screen rotation icon has also gone..
Can someone with a fresh 2i please confirm there is a clock time showing on the display at the top right
Thanks
John

The clock is on upper right of 'Title Bar' to begin with but as soon as o2 Active installs, it's gone. I like the clock up there so I stopped installation.
Did this after a hard reset as was curious to see if o2 Active was causing my 2i to run slowly - and Hey Presto, I get clock back and a quicker 2i
Cyber-mate, I think the clock being part of Today 'list of items' is due to the o2 Active interface.
Below is a link to a registry hack that allows you to show either time, date, both or neither on top right of screen.

Considering the K-Jam... suggestions ?

I currently have a Jasjar, but I'm finding it too big...
I love all the features, but I want to be able to use it one-handed, throw it in my pocket, etc... the K-Jam seems like a good alternative.
The only things that I'm not liking about the K-Jam are:
- Lower rez screen (but it's smaller than the Jasjar, 3.6" vs. 2.8"... so its still pretty sharp... and I can't really see where I couldn't live without it)
- 2.5" headset jack, and on the bottom... (kinda annoying... but could use an adapter... but still a hassle because I currently plug my MP3 player into my car, my headphones AND speakers at the office, and I'll have to have an adapter sticking out of the bottom of my phone now...)
- Mini-SD card... (SD is much better to go above 2GB, even up to 4GB... and it's not exactly a well known or used format... SD is cheaper, and Memory Stick Pro Duo is coming down in price since the PSP came out... but what can I do)
Also, does it work well for one-handed use ?
Any ex-Treo users who care to comment ?
Any ideas ? Suggestions ?
Thanks !
The wizard is a solid device. Go for it!!
You will love the extra battery life and size. I really could not imagine having a universal clipped to my belt weighing my pants down.
I upgraded from an alpine and I could not be happier.
Higher screen REZ is not needed on a screen that small. The screen is much sharper compared to the alpine.
The OMAP cpu is just enough processing power to run everything out there.
Also, I noiticed you were in Canada so I doubt you were making use of the 3G power of the universal(probably another 5-7 years for Canada). The wizard is EDGE enabled so if you use rogers you will see great data download rates. I was lucky enough to already be signed up with fido and their $50/month unlimited data plan when rogers took over fido so i am paying $50 a month for unlimited EDGE use. I am quite sure FIDO does not offer this plan to new subscibers anymore.
My only compliants with the wizard are:
-HTC needs to make better use of the device by increasing screen size without increasing the size of the device.(all HTC devices)
-The stylus hole is a joke. My stylus hole wore out within 1 week and now my stylus slides out of the hole very easily. Soon it will probably be falling out. Didn't they bother testing this at all???
-no GPS.
hey audible,
thanks for the reply !
I am with fido / rogers as well and I signed up for the unlimited plan as well... are you in Montreal ? and where did you order your K-Jam ?
so yeah I'd be good using the EDGE support... I often use my p800 as a bluetooth modem with my laptop.
a few questions:
- that sounds bad about the stylus... is there a solution ?
- have you experienced any issues multi-tasking with the OMAP ?
- have you ever tried a VGA screen on a pda to compare ?
- how's the k-jams one handed use ? have you ever tried a treo for one handed use in comparison ?
- did you remap the explorer and mail buttons to something more useful ? like windows and OK ?
- does the 2.5" jack bother you ? do you use an adapter ?
- does the keyboard slide mechanism feel solid ? I'm worried now after what you said about the stylus...
thanks and look forward to your reply !
Posted from a Universal !
- that sounds bad about the stylus... is there a solution ?
I haven't had any probs with my stylus yet, except it may be a little looser than when I got it.
- have you experienced any issues multi-tasking with the OMAP ?
Nope, I can have several apps open at once (eg. Calender, Notes, Email, MSN, IE x 2 (using PPCPlus), TCPMP playing MP3) and its fine.
- have you ever tried a VGA screen on a pda to compare ?
It resembles the crispness of VGA screen because of its smaller size, but in no way matches the res.
- how's the k-jams one handed use ? have you ever tried a treo for one handed use in comparison ?
Haven't tried a treo, but WM5 is great for one handed use. I can do most things without the stylus. The Win and Ok keys on the keyboard make it even easier.
- did you remap the explorer and mail buttons to something more useful ? like windows and OK ?
You can, but I find their defaults good.
- does the 2.5" jack bother you ? do you use an adapter ?
I rarely use it, but yes when I do I use an adaptor.
- does the keyboard slide mechanism feel solid ? I'm worried now after what you said about the stylus...
I am happy with the slider. It seems pretty solid, and the screen definately feels like it will stay up when it is up.
Hey mitchello,
thanks for your feedback !

Any comments ?
Wizard (imate K-JAM) is awesome!
Moving from a Blue Angel to the wizrd has so far been very pleasing. The smaller screen has been a little daunting, especially trying to use the "finger" stylus, but beyond that I highly recommend it.
Stability and features in WM5 are nice, and should not be discounted.
I'm on T-Mobile in the US, and EDGE is great at around 150kbs, compared to 30kbs via GPRS.
i upgraded from my IMATE PPC and i love the K-JAM , it is a little slow , but the battery is great.. i love the deviced , once you get used to it and all features you will love it..
i used adapter to play MP3 in my car and it work great...
good luck

Hey rah,
thanks for the comments !
Good to hear someone else who uses it to play tunes in the car.
What about one-handed use ? Do you feel you have to do finger aerobics to do certain things, like open the start menu ?
I've heard of people mapping the Send Call button to the Start menu in the Today screen...
I'm wondering if I could map Send and End to Start and OK in every screen except for the Phone screen ?
Any comments ?

Orange spv m5000 - my impressions

Total arse!!!!
why....
size - way too big as a phone or pda - great as a sub notebook though!
signal strength - crap! 1 bar where my v 600 motorola had 4 barsand my m2000 had 4! (all on orange)
cannot play movies smoothly at 640x320
ate all of my data allowance in 1 evening - dunno why - it was just in my coat pocket!
however,
lovely screen - really really great!
thats about all the good stuff!
its going back! i wish orange did the m3000 over here!!!!!
please feel free to flame me or agree!
Agree in parts, but no in others.
The films problem could be due to your program, or the compression methodology.
The gripes I have are mainly about usability. Why are the SD card and power button on the BOTTOM of the unit??? just weird. Also why can't we easily map different buttons, why does virtually eveything have to be a registry hack??
ORANGE WE NED AN UPDATE
I sort of agree. I had a m1000 and had it upgraded to m5000 and It could be better.
I had the memory issue too. My wifes fault though she decided to accidently record a 25 minute phone call. SO CHECK FOR LARGE RECORDED FILES.
The long delayed ringing issue and 2 second silence on answer is a joke. Spoke to Orange on this explaining that it was a common issue on everyones m5000 they were puzzled.
Also Bluetooth tools what happened! What a let down.
****ORANGE WE NEED A ROM UPDATE DOES ANYONE HAVE A DATE IF THERE IS ONE****
I dont really understand why you posted this. Everyone on this board already has an HTC Universal (or very close to everyone). Since the device has been out for months now, any of us who wanted to take the device back already have. So the people you are giving these "first impressions" to already have the device and what you are saying here is nothing new to anyone. (Although I disagree with all of your points.)

Surely you saw the size of the phone before you bought it? I personally quite like the size, and wouldnt have minded a slightly bigger version with a bigger screen. You also need to realise that the size of a device is *not* independant of its features. The device has a 520mhz cpu, VGA screen, bluetooth, wifi, phone, 3G(WCDMA), decent full keyboard, camera, flashlight, stereo speakers, microphones, 2nd camera for voice calls, fairly heavy battery to run all of this, IRDA, etc etc. With our current technology, the Universal is the absolute smallest you can get all these features in. There is simply no way they could make the device significantly smaller without dropping features.
Given all this, the phone obviously was not designed for some people, for example, 15 year old girls. This should have come as no suprise to you, since you must have either looked at the phone before you bought it, or looked on the internet to see the size of the phone. Yes?

Perfect signal strength here, my bars are always maxxed out. You may have very bad 3G/UTMS/WCDMA coverage in the area where you live. Go into phone options, go to the band tab, and change it from AUTO to GSM. This may help your signal.

If you are, Click Options->Video->Video Driver, and choose either Intel XScale or Raw Framebuffer.
640x320 movies should play very smoothly then.

As far as I know, this can only be user error. Ive been using the device for awhile now, and it only ever uses bandwidth when I set it to use bandwidth. If you only have a 5mb or so allowance, opening up a very graphic heavy page could use as much as 5mb. I'd recommend turning off images or using a service which downsamples images to make them smaller to download. You could also use something like this: http://www.google.com/gwt/n
m5000
You are right in most of what you say other manufactures i.e O2 etc. have brought out radio upgades that appear to sort out signal errors etc. However Orange have not brought out an update we are still on radio 1.3. So i'm sure returning them wont make any difference. Other people have had many problems using updates from other network providers. We just want something simple that works. Surely that's not too much to ask.
Other that I quite like the handset and the size to me isn't a bother.

Athena or Ameo - first few days.

Hi, Great forum people, at least you get the chance to write up your thoughts.
My first Post on this site, and my initail thoughts.
I got an Ameo as an upgrade to my "MDA PRO" from T-Mobile. It looks like a UMPC but not quite there. I second all your thoughts on the device. One thing that is "interesting is the motion sensor" i.e. you can move around the web browsers via tilting the machine, but a bit like my PS3 Motion Sensor Games it gets a bit of getting use to so I tend not to use it.
Another useful thing above the MDA was the little 5 way joypad which is useful if you don't feel pulling out the pen. But this is definitely a Two Hands Device.
I always try and get the most techie gadget from my Tmobile as possible, the odd view I know but I dont actually believe this is a useable phone, so I still use my trusty SONYp900 with rubbish battery.
Although I must admit the MDA pro battery is pretty bad, that I upgraded to a larger and thus more bulkier model.
So Far I have been impressed with the Ameo's battery - life and as others have commented that the usb charging takes longer from Laptop/PC than the official adapter included. But alas I think after using it it will only really last a day at most … so I have to carry a charger with me if at work etc.
One thing I am confused about is that T-Mobile - I never had any Composite out / S-VHS output cable - just a VGA cable, not sure if this is standard or misinformation I did however had VGA out - it would have been nice to show family pics when travelling etc on family TV's at times.
For me this is exactly as you said a Filofax that BT headset would be useful for making calls. I use it to do exactly "work" related diarycalendar and massive contact list, and keep documents hat I am working on within for reference, must get a Blue Tooth keyboard that sounds useful.
Use the MDA PRO keypad was actually quite tactile and useable, this Ameo however is a very ZX80 "showing my age". but that being said I did edit my CV quite easily.
I would like to say when I saw the screen size I was impressed but the resolution is a let down, I think its more to do with WM5 rather than the device I presume but not sure of the Technical on this.
This machine is just screaming to be a LINUX machine with Phone and GPS built in, open office and more etc, utilising the screen size to a better effect. Dunno just a thought.
WM5 is not really eye candy in pink, so this is a let down, if not embarrassing, some peopel out there would slap you if you answered the Ameo in public so BT is useful and Hands free a necessity.
It "could" make a useful recorder for meetings. Also useful that it has a 3MP Camera, I took some shots and all were useful, but the device is slow and tedious and simple camera's are better Although it has stretched the boundaries i.e PDA/Phone etc. (noting the Nokia N95)
One thing is that it requires you to have a very steady hand or need to be leaning against something to take a top quality shot that again needs to be Still, I got tried of asking my 3 year old lad to hold still ;-) and did not even try with my fast crawling 9 month baby boy.
My wife thinks its yet another waste of money, but I explained to her that I never actually bought it, and it allowed me not to have to carry a laptop and the Work PC and this would be sufficient. So If you are after saving your back then great.
I am now actually on the look out for a really simple phone which can sync with outlook and preferably pay as you go.
So - now I don’t have to carry my ipod - music, Sony PSP for MP4, Laptop - general work. If I look at it that way all well and good. It does feel a bit odd that one I do pull it out it feels like the daddy of PDAs or an ARCHOS Media Player. Pity that the Linux thought that the USB sync cable could connect it to a further Hard drive? making it a TV recorder? Dreaming now sorry.
I hear HTC have a 7inch Vista Compatible. I think that Microsoft/HTC need to release WM6 on the AMEO with T-Mobile quickly.
Anyone know how to get rid of the T-Mobile customisation I remember that there use to be hack for the MDA PRO.
Also NO Anti Virus - or is it that I have not even opened or read Manual the CD-ROM may contain it? can someone confirm as I have to hide everything from the kids otherwise it becomes pulp in there mouths.
So far my littles ones have some great hand me downs, whilst I try and justify the Apple TV thing that just came through a month or so late ;-) belated Valentines Gift for my wife ;-), Pity I could not get this thing engraved with my wifes name on it, usually helps with the unwrapping.
Oh boy before I forget, I thought it was just me, but the screen is useless outside. it reflects so much that you cannot see anything outside. this is really annoying try to use the GPS. so the Voice and sound need to be loud. Notably I did have the screen protector supplied stuck on the Ameo. One thing it makes it more UNsensitive i.e. need to prod it firmly when utilising one finger and not the pointer, which surprisingly does stay in it hole, and does not fall out when there is a breeze in the air.
Another good thing is that streaming books is great for the Kids. The Speakers (stereo work well) althought they are very spoilt with Beolabs 8000 and 6000's around the house, amazingly they don't touch those.
With all the usb charges cables about the place and prying childrens hands I am a bit wary of the thing being pulled of table.
The leather case is really good quality leather, and I think although I like to keep everything quite new looking it may look even better with age.
BUT the protection it offers is minimal, i.e. its no ipod rubber skin etc, and the Ameo is no Light Bunny. If it was picked up I in a food fight accidentally then this would hurt ;-). Where am I going with this is that Hard Drive, and I have worked within IBM Engineering Manufacturing “Files/DASD or Hard Drives”. Can it take a bump is going to be found out by my toddlers sooner than later and this scares me a tad, Solid State could not arrive quick enough albeit for in flight parking technologies. Come on Samsung bring those prices down for that 64GB device.
That Magnetic Keyboard is definitely a Trick and credit to HTC nice idea and shows the shielding has been well thought out it reminds me of the shielding in Larger drives and Actuator Arms. One thing I would have like was another case which just allowed the Ameo to be used Palm Like.and a carrying strap should had least been an option, as long as it was not as girly as the PSP one.
Thinking Back PSION and HP and Ericson Pocket PC etc, this is that Nokia Communicator type machine. It nearly all there but not just quite.
Yes I will get an I-Phone engraved for my wife of course,. As I got this on a twelve month Contract. It does allow me to surf the web adequately but jave based websites still struggle with WM5. this is annoying if you use BT Yahoo, and even there non java based site there is issues with some very important icons.
Skype –usage with T-Mobile costs extra on top of web-n-walk so bear that in mind. This is a bit of a farce. But it would be ideal for Skype etc. If any hackers out there sort this out I will be impressed, I suppose T-Mobile monitor the Skpe services PORT?
One other thing I maybe correct about is there is no infra red port, as this would have made the best ever remote control. Although I do have an amazing B&O 7000 and beolink 5000 and standard beolink which all have immensely powerful beams. It would have been nice to add to my collection one that I could programme the non B&O kit with.
Hmmmm could add it to the Kitchen that I am thinking of doing up, drop down timer, internet cookbook, bollywood film streamer ;-) I think my wife may allow for it.
Anyways hope this adds to some of the thoughts others have written.
Speed of use and generally moving about I not totally impressed about although I am use to trading floor compute back bones, you can live with it. Thing that annoys me is the start up time to making a phone call quickly if you had to. One of the reasons for not using it as phone apart from looking like a person ready to be mugged.NFL.
More updates later.
Woah, that's one very helpful impression.
Thank you, please keep more coming.
I'm still with my Dopod 900/Universal, and thinking of upgrading to U1000 due to the speed, battery life, and bigger screen.
I find that my dopod 900 memory often drops below 10mb and this slows down the speed significantly. I do hope with U1000, the speed would improve tremendously. The Dopod 900 Battery life was not enough to keep me up for a whole day either. I do a lot of readings and typings with my PDA on the road, so bigger screen would be a bonus.
Although, U1000 seems heavier and bigger on spec paper, but I find that in my pant's pocket(Hugo Boss Dress pants) I find U1000 to be more comfortable, perhaps due to its thinner design?
The Dopod 900 is a bit thick and pressing against my thigh. So for some reason dopod 900 is less comfortable for me.

Can you help me by running haret on Athena and doing some tests ?
There is already some information gathered here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=AthenaResearch
and many subsystems are already supported.
It is realistic to run Linux off the ramdisk very soon.

Well, I use 900 before and now with u1000..
Honestly, dont sell ur 900 for the u1000..
I have it both now..
900 have something really good as an alternative..
lighter, an all in one keyboard, a backlight keyboard, a 4 rows keyboard.
For me, both of them have similar battery life.... Both good. u1000 a bit longer if the light set lower (but 20% light is higher than the 900 already)
I use 900 for 1.5 yrs, it is great and still the best in any PDA phone.
Get u1000 for a new fresh good, wider screen, more bright screen, faster speed, GPS, HSDPA. It for sure worth!!!

yes i also agree the keyboard isn't that good in Athena, but hey don't forget, there is a possibility that we can buy extra keyboard that is better then Universal to attach to out Athena in the future.
My Ameo - unlock cost me £15 on T-Mobile
OK ... still playing with My Ameo.
Updates ... I have a Tom Tom 6 installed. - Will report back GPS capabilities soon.
WMStorage - worked 2nd time around but cannot get it working anymore. cant connect to usb driver error etc. Tried the threads but to no avail. - it maybe a TT6 thing.
Noted that after TT6 install the abilitiy to open media player files have become messed up on the web, it like it does not recognise them and I have to "save as" only - anyone know how to solve or experince this?
Not sure if some file associations have gone AWOL.
Definately still too big to Talk into, screen useless still in the SUN, waiting for the right type of sunshine ;-), Probably a good thing that you cannot use it outside when people can see you! ;-). Actualy I have started to use my mda pro a bit more and it actually feels usuable and small and a breath of fresh air scarily I might even use it as a phone now.
Installed ozVGA, amkes its a supperb document viewer - although cannot use the phone pad, but hey I am not making any calls ;-)
Biggest update - I thought I would like to use it as an emergency phone. without having to pull out my SIM card from other phone all the time. Noting I use Wifi most of the time. I thus phoned T-Mobile - got into chatting how I wold like to use the newly bought device abroad for a Month and if I could have it unlocked, the representative said £15 on the next bill, I said darn oh well, plaease put it on my next bill, and proceeded to give the IMEI number over the phone, she said that it would take 28 Days, to deliver to my home address. I said could it be meailed - she said yes, but it still takes 28 days ... checkig and procedures I guess... but I went for the email option hoping it maybe quicker, plus I can chase them without getting into postal issues.
But this now gives me a unlocked phone, pending them saying I should not have been given the ability to have it etc.... I am on flext25 webnwalk (12 month Contaract) but have been with them since the begining. Hopefuly giving me enough time to see iphone in the UK for next purchase.
Next stage, understand what Haret is? and how to get the info requested - earlier in the thread.
About to go down to phones4u and pick up a Motofone for £15, thin and simple.
Noted one really annoying thing, by the vue flow, there is a scratch apperaing from closing the case i.e. the plastic form teh keyboard contacts rubs direct against teh edge of the screen metal, and this is casuing me concern, it could easily dent it. I like to keep everythign like new, plastic, I dont even throw ties away ;-) so this is going to be annoying. its like gettinga dent on the Ferrari after just buying it, touching the screen of the of Bang and Olufsen Beovision 5 or worse a hole within the fret ;-).
regards Aamir.

Haret is "HArdware Reverse Engineering Tool". It's a wince program
with the source code available under GPL,
and you can get the latest precompiled version here
http://jornada820.sf.net/files/haret
The program allows a very detailed research in an interactive mode,
but first i'm interested in the most simple things.
Please put this program in some directory, and create a file named
"default.txt" containing a line
Code:
dump gpio athenagpio
in the same directory.
Start the program and press the "Run" button.
Exit.
You should see the file "athenagpio" in the same directory.
Please upload it here.
Haret dump file
CR2, Please see attached file.
It seems to be looking for a connection on port 9999, but I exited and the resulting file uploaded, let me know if this is incorrect or if I can assist further.
knid regards Aamir.

Cool Dumping settings from a working machine is often
much more helpful than any static analysis.
I'm already editing the wiki based on your data.
Can you connect to the machine with telnet to port 9999,
and do you know how to log the session ?
We need to find out your board ID (if you don't know it already from the bootloader) and it is possible to dump a lot of other useful info.
Please give me the details and I wil try, I am currently away from my pc, but in essence is this correct :
[1] get the bootloader details (quick link please)
[2] Connect to the "home" wifi network.
[3] Work out the ip address on the Ameo
[4] telnet form PC on Wifi network to the Ameo ip Address
e.g.
[4.1] open command window or cmd on Home PC
[4.2] telnet 192.168.0.xxx [space] 9999
After which i suspect I am connected to something running on that 9999 port?
please let me know if that is roughly what you are after and then I can assist.
kind regards Aamir.

You are connected to haret (remote debugger, if you like) and can run debugging commands.
BTW, it can be deduced from your dump that the phone and wifi are
switched off. Can you switch them on (maybe the GPS too) and
do the gpiodump again ?
Thanks!

there isn't one yet, all i am saying is there is a possibility that we will see third party keyboard that we can attach and replace the original one, it might have some more features such as extra row. Personally, i think it isn't that hard to achieve.

Ameo - The first few days.

Just wanted to say how pleased I am with the Ameo after the first few days of use, and identify some of the small issues with it. I'm impressed with the speed more or less, coming from a Dell Axim x50v with the WM5 'upgrade' applied.
So, good points first..
Fantastic Screen - 5" plenty big enough for me
Keyboard - its great that it just clicks on and goes, and it holds the PDA in the correct position.
Web (and Walk) Button - that it launches Opera rather than pie.
Camera - pretty good quality for a phone cam.
Internet - I dig the 3G!!
GPS - The chip seems great and good at picking up the satellites with relative ease. On a trip seems to hold at least 5 bars in tomom 97% of the time - my old one only averages 3-4.
Microdrive - So good to not have to worry about space.
Weight - yes its heavy, but not as heavy as expected, given the kit inside the case!
Connectivity - Plenty of cables to get started with, the charger, usb AND the VGA cable!
Battery power - surprising good and reasonably long lasting
Bad Points
Doesn't seem to resume all that well - sometimes need a reset button pressed to get it to come back to life.
The screen rotation can be a bit inconsistent - especially after poweroff/ons.
Tomtom V6 screen refresh seems a little slow, even with all poi's turned off. Maybe the latest build will help - also, not got voices working yet.
The USB doesn't seem to charge up, just hold the existing charge.
MiniSD (this is only because I've just recently bought a couple of SD cards!).
Headphones - haven't got the headphones working with Mediaplayer yet - the sound just comes out of the speakers.
That large file transfer problem - although the Removable storage fix sorts that and is far quicker than craptivsync. Although then the Microdrive isn't visible at the same time within the PDA.
No IrDA port. Not necessary, but would be nice to use it as an all in one remote!
Not much else to report at the moment, I've rigged up a holster in the car, pending a proper version, and I'll get the 4 in 1 cable fairly soon.
What a cracking device though, that really promotes the wow-factor!

Few comments:
After removing the battery, press and hold power button to turn on device, not soft-reset. Normal press will not power on.
The apparent rotation on screen afer resume from standby is due to "notiication panel"window returning to normal view.
TomTom6 works for may people, even cracks work well
BT stereo should work with even the most basic of headsets surprised you have problems.
Try and read more on this forum to solve all your problems, otherwise you would waste thisdevice.
Forgot to add, half the standard software isn't listed in the programs folder, i.e. Calc, Opera, Notes and well, thats about it... Just a bit strange that they've not got shortcuts, but heyho.

Yeah, it works fine, just the refresh rate is a bit slow (maybe 1-2fps). Like I say, maybe a version newer than 6.000 will resolve the issue.

I've been reading loads since last week when I decided to get the device. The only problem is it can sometimes be difficult to locate the info. But I found the fix for the large file problem didn't I?
Wah the problem with the device for not being able to turn on after going into stand by is a very serious problem. I wouldn't get U1000 until it's resolved since I always need to refer to my PDA instantenously. I cannot afford having to soft reset and wait for the device to turn on whenever I need the device the most. I never experienced this problem with Dopod 900.

Any third party software already installed or opened in the background? memory leak? Perhaps those could cause wake up problems?
thanks
Sounds like you have a faulty device
I would send that device back immediately for replacement!
I have abused my ameo by all sorts of tweaks and hacks but no such problems since i got it.
I sent my U1000 back for warranty claim(under 7 days) cause always prompting me my SIM is invalid, eventhough i've switch to a newly applied one. Other than that, everything is fine. MapKing works great though.

that is strange, i don't see any sign of this problem on my device, is it to do with third party software?
It hasn't done the non-resume problem for a couple of days, funnily enough. Thinking back, it may be sometime again to do with tomtom, as I have a feeling it suspended whilst TT was active. I'll monitor, do some experiements and report back.
Also fixed the headphone issue - looks like I wasn't 'using the force'. I tried again just and noted that the headphone jack was about 1mm shy of home - pushed even harder and its clicked in and now I have sound in my phones!

T-mobile "Wing" Availability

Just got off the phone with a t-mobile representative just a few seconds ago. I was calling about a replacement (on my 4th MDA) and asked about the availability of "The Wing". He said availability will be on May 22, 2007 here in the USA. I also asked him about the availability of an upgrade for the MDA Vario II which is what I have. He say's; "They (being t-mobile) are NOT planning an upgrade for this phone. I am ordering the "Wing" ASAP on that date yippeee!!
I spoke to the representative for at least ten minutes. I asked about the "The Wing" and he said that he had a co-worker who works in the lab where they test the phone(s) and got some "hand's on" time with it. He said it was very nice and liked the spring loaded keyboard which gives it more of a solid feel when sliding out the keyboard. I always seem to fidget with the Wizard in my holster as it seems the keyboard likes to slide slightly when it's on my hip. I do want the LED indicator lights for the function keys and caps too. I do have the hack on the Wizard for the indicator but it's nice to see those little added extra features that "The Wing" will have. The representative also said that it will have a better grip in your hands unlike the Wizard. I like that as I always fear and have to handle the Wizard with kid gloves, that it will slide out of my hands or I will drop it.... which did happen on one of them and it got a scratch :-( No 3G support but he say's that t-mobile will surpass 3G with a faster data network sometime in 2008.
I am however disappointed in the fact that they will not offer an upgrade and of course I could get a rom off here but I prefer to have the real deal. I would like a custom rom for the MDA with the carrier default stuff for t-mobile working and then tweak it myself.
Just thought I would pass this info along
~Spaz~
great !
i seen this phone.. its pretty awesome
specialy this screen that is nicely floating on it
and its fast
It the same as XDA terra - I guess. So it will be more romcookers for this device available in a few month.

With this i got an 57mb big nba file. But you cannot falsh to wizard. when i´m using pdocread with -l (otion) i get teh toal size of 62Mb = 3e00000 - but you can also not flash to wizard. when i take an original nbh file from herald upgrade it contains ipl, spl, radio, extrom and os.
but when i use pdocread i only get os.
Don´t know any further.
if u call after june5th to get ur mda replaced they will send u a brand new tmob wing inplace of the mda.. u just have to pay shipping..
Not looking forward to the wing
Sure it has a 2 MP camera, but no flash. There are also no convenient bottons for messaging and internet explorer on the front. Instead there is only the messaging button which they put on the side.
They keyboard is HORRIBLE. Very similar to the 8125 and 8525. They are all stuck together and it makes it VERY annoying to type with. Also, the R,T, and I,O buttons are compromised because they squeezed the left and right soft buttons there (so they are about 80% the size of the other buttons)
Spring loaded??? Expect it to get worn over time.
And to top it off, its the same processor speed as the MDA!!! 200MHz???? Completely not worth the money.
I recently got the 8525, and i really do miss my MDA. The wing is a hybrid between the MDA and 8525, but with a good majority of drawbacks. Its 2 steps forward and 10 steps back.
Seriously now... no flash? some keys are not full size? touching keys? Puke...
I had tested the wing for about 2 days, but within the first 2 minutes i was already frustrated with its drawbacks.
not sure how i feel about having only 1 speaker too..
Yes indeed - it is the same like wizard.
BUT when you don´t use UMTS, when you don´t take pictures with a handy by night (the flash of wizard was horrible), when you want a thinn device for carrying in your pocket -- it is the wing (terra)
And when youn love your wizard - and just want a newer one.
Take the wing.
BTW - the mainstorage is much faster than teh wizard ones.

The wing has no IR which is a drawback for me,(i use my MDA as a tv Remote) and that they didn't upgrade the processor makes it not worth any more than the MDA, only thing better is the keyboard,(keys not how its spring loaded). The MDA keys are way to small.
