Bluetooth toolkit no switchy offy! - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I have read the fairly expansive discussion on the matter of bluetooth, and so I will attempt to avoid repeating well documented problems with the built in bluetooth interface.
Who would have thought that Microsoft would write buggy, incomplete and incompatable software!! !!
I have been experimenting with the bluetooth toolkit as found on website - http://bluetooth.i-networx.de. Firstly one must pay respect to anybody who attempts to correct the horrendous built in functions.
However, has anybody else noted the problem with the XDA II no longer switching itself off after a function (ie text message etc). Now the functionality of the tools make it still preferable to not having them, though it must be said the already spurious battery life of the XDA II is taking a real beating - particularly if you receive a text messagae when you are not near your phone.
The problem must be related to the code within the toolkit that allows twin power settings, as this somehow seems to be defaulting to always on, despite the settings shown on the device.
Help!!
Cheers
James
PS - I must say, this is probably one of the most useful forums on the web. If I am asking a question that has already been discussed, shoot me then point out where it is.
Ta!

You're not the only one with this problem, and it has been discussed at length, but I'm not going to shoot you (mainly because I don't have time to trawl through all the past threads to find examples ).
We're all waiting patiently for Tobias to fix this bug and release a new version, but it's all gone very quiet...

you get what you pay for
ms dident invent bluetooth
ms as a rule dont make too good implementations of
features they dident invent and hand them to you for free
too bad HTC dident put on a probber bluetooth stack

I had to uninstall bluetooth tools because of this problem, i found my phone swittching on in my pocket and there were quite a few occasions where i managed to make calls with the phone in my pocket whilst walking downt he street without even knowing that i had made them, it was a real pain not being able to get the phone to stay turned off

I had the same problem, and also of bluetooth not switching off when the little white circle turns gray. I have however found when I edit the register settings for PBT, to shorten the time to 10 seconds, it works perfectly and reliably, and goes off by itself.
The right key is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PBT
Change AutoOff to a smaller number e.g. 10000 (which is 10 seconds). It now works like a charm.
Try it out and let me know if it is a general solution.
Surur

Thanks for the comments guys,
I suspected I wasn't the first to have this prob.
Hard to be too dissapointed Tobias though, as even with the bug, he still did a better job than MS managed!!
Thanks for the registry alteration. I will make it and let you know after a trial period of a week.
Cheers
JJ

registry editor
Hi guys,
Can't find a registry editor except the PHM one, and can't make that one install
Help!!?!

No switch off
G'day all,
newby, I have a similar problem with myImate & O2 genuine BT head set. After some excellent assistance from Mtekk people it finally worked but has on occasions been left "open" and callers privy to my conversations. Good thing I am a good boy :>

I changed mine to what was suggested on the registry and the result is what expected. It turns off. Thanks for the suggestion.
Another problem I found with the 60 second auto bluetooth shutoff is that I can't answer a call from my headset bluetooth even after the bluetooth turned on automatically.
But it seems like it's working with the 10 second settings. Thanks again for the suggestion. Now I can save more battery life with bluetooth on.

another problem
my device is Qtek 2020 and i upgraded the rom version to iMate 1.72 successfuly
i use your program blue tooth tools with the headset HBH-35 and it works great except one problem. with the program
during a phone call with my (Qtek 2020 upgraded to iMate 1.72 rom)
when there is another incoming call waiting in case i chose to ignor it or of i don't do any thing when the call is transfers to the answering machine, the primary phone call continues but i cant hear the other person and he cant hear me so i press the hold button and then the resume button and then i can hear him again.
when i uninstalled the bluetooth tools program every thing worked good again
can you please fix the program so i can continue using it
bye bye
i.e. please reply to this e-mail

I guess I spoked too soon.
It was working great, until I turn on the auto shutdown of the bluetooth. When I make a call and decide to turn off the phone during a call, the bluetooth turns off too. This only happens if I have the timer on, if the timer is off, then I can turn my pda off during a call.

The call waiting thing
Hi K_blal,
I had the same problem. To be honest, I don't like call waiting, as generally, if I am on the phone I don't want to be disturbed anyway!
You can switch the call waiting off in the Phone settings (under SIM card services)
After this, no more irritating call waiting issues!!
I know it isn't necessarily a solution, but it will suffice until we get an update from the guys who wrote the software.
PS - Might not hurt to give a donation to the people who wrote it, it may incentivise them to continue supplying top software!! Without them, my hands free kit would be a lump of useless plastic!!
Cheers

Microphone stops when I hit a numberkey if I'm calling an interactive menu system!

Ok, this is a real doozy.
This happened on my original Hermes, and now it's happening on my (three day old!) new one too (just tried to Ring Areti Internet to speak to someone on behalf of one of my clients, and the moment I pressed 0 to speak to someone the microphone seems to just cut out).
The root of the problem is: I can ring a number, whatever, and if I get to a menu system, I tap in the appropriate number to navigate through the system. However, the moment I do so, when I do eventually get through to someone they can't hear me. I can hear them fine, but my microphone has totally cut out - and even trying things like hitting mute / unmute makes no difference.
If I don't press a button, and either hang on until the menu system just puts me through to someone, the mic works fine. The worst thing about this problem is that it's unpredictable; it can happen all the time or it can just happen every so often, and there's no visual or audio indicators to say otherwise that the problem is occurring.
My two Hermes models are quite vastly different in model: the old one was an HT634 and this one is a 643, so the question of the problem being a hardware one spread across several models doesn't apply. This is REALLY ANNOYING, not only does it piss off the person on the other end but if you're stuck in a queue waiting to speak to someone for 20+ minutes, finally getting through and finding that you can't be heard is TOTALLY ANNOYING!
What's even more confusing is this: I thought it might be a permanent problem, so I tried ringing my home phone, then getting my friend to make like an interactive menu system and just say "press 1 to test this, press 2 to confirm that this is a really stupid thing I'm having to do for you, press 3 to confirm that you don't mind me hitting you after we're done testing this idea of yours"... You get the idea. I pressed a button (more than one in fact, the second time I tried it), waited the appopriate length of time that it would take in the real world to get connected, and started speaking - and the person on the landline could hear me fine.
The problem was also present (and intermittent) on my first Hermes, but it was unpredictable. I'm not in a great 3G signal area, and as I look at my phone at the moment it's gone back to GPRS. I also noticed on the MoDaCo forums that some people in London were suffering from problems where they couldn't hear callers, but the person at the other end could hear them fine (they suppose, as they weren't hung up on even though they couldn't hear their caller) - they had to force their phone back to 2G to resolve the problem. However, my microphone doesn't cut out during normal phone usage, so it's just really bugging me that I can't figure out why the hell this is happening!
My Hermes is pretty much stock: T-Mobile ROM, nothing cooked or patched, I just have the odd little bunch of harmless utilities installed: a screen cap application, Map24 Mobile, Microsoft Reader, Media Metrics Meter (usage tracker, you get paid £5 a month for submitting your stats to them so it pays for the Web 'n Walk), Opera Mobile, TCPMP, SMSDRFix, Vibra Switch, WM5NewMenu and Total Commander... They're the only significant additions.
This is driving me nuts! I never had this problem on my old Alpine, though granted it was on O2. I've even had this problem when calling the T-Mobile support line! Which as you can imagine is MOST frustrating.
Anybody have even the faintest idea as to how to solve this problem? It SEVERELY hinders my ability to ring any kind of helpline or support / sales line... And until I found an alternative (direct dial) number to get through to T-Mobile Customer Services, I wasn't even able to ring them!
had exactly the same problem with a Vario II. I couldn't set up my voicemail!
Exchanged unit for a new one and now works fine. No problems so far

Argh... It took me long enough to get this replacement!!! Vario 2s are like golddust at the moment.
What model number is your new unit? Mine is an HT643 (first one was a 634)...

missed calls

hello everyone, I just got the Mogul and Im getting a bunch of missing calls, I found out that whenever the device is powered off (external or battery) I dont receive any calls, I know the phone is ON because the led is blinking but no calls as soon I turn power ON with side button I get the ntification of missed call, is there any setup Im missing or this is a defective phone?
I have treo as well, even the power off, when someone calls everything light up and it rings.
Edit: Never mind the soft reset fixed it, sorry you can delete this thread.
Settings>Phone>Services>Roaming>Get Settings, Make sure Sprint Only is selected.
If you hop onto a different network for some reason, your calls will go straight to voicemail. This is a Sprint problem, not a Mogul problem, I had this issue with my Moto Q.

Bad advice. It's a WM problem, not a Sprint problem as evidenced by a soft reset fixing it.
Yes because everyone knows after a soft reset that there's no way your network will change.
I know that in pigfucker land where you live there's only one cell tower, but in real cities there's multiple towers for multiple carriers. Call ************* Sprint and they will tell you the same thing I did. Turn off roaming and your calls won't go straight to voicemail. Sprint has this problem with A LOT of their phones and that's how they solve it.
you dont have to be so angry about it.
HAHA!
He's got a point. Just because a softreset fixed it this time doesn't mean its a device issue. This has happened with other phones (even non-smart devices) as well. A power cycle usually resets your service with the towers.
Couldn't help but post a reply
After reading the posts, I am still not sure if I understand the problem. Is pigfuckerland the only place where this is happening. Since I do not live in pigfuckerland, would I expect that the Sprint tower problem will not occur where I live. Please be more specific in your posts as I would like to avoid pigfuckerland on my travels. I have attempted to look up pigfuckerland in Google Maps, but did not locate it there. Will try using Wikipedia next to see if a post regarding pigfuckerland has made it online. Thanks for any and all information in advance on pigfuckerland that you are able to provide.
Dragon_76 = dicksucking moron for listening to Sprint and repeating what some CS rep told her
I would recommend you change the call ringer pulling setting from the default 5sec or something lower.
If a caller don't call long enough, you might miss a call.
Having a lot of problems
I'm also having the same problem with my Mogul, but I don't think soft reseting the phone fixes anything, it might fix it but only for a day or so. There has to be an explanation for this issue but I need a solution because it's driving me crazy. In average, I'm missing 2 calls per day and that's frustrating. This problem didn't start happening when I first got the phone, it was after a month or so that it began to happen. I'm not sure if there's an application that I installed that's causing this. First I blamed it on psShutXp, then on WMP because I started using it when I bought a bluetooth headphone, or my 8gb sdhc memory card that I recently bought. Whatever the problem is I need to know please!!!!!!!!!
What Radio ROM are you running? I had such problems with the Telus P4000 which is the HTC PPC-6800 or Sprint Mogul. I am currently running 2.06D and it's great the unit came with 1.32 originally, tried 1.40 and 1.47.01. 1.47.01 wasn't bad but not great, had some luck with 2.13 but found 2.06D to work best. I am interested in the latest rom which here which enables REV A, this may help too.
Hey Duck,
try doing this. I think that was happening to me too when i first got my phone. it is going into like a hibernation mode and like a computer's hard drive it is suspending itself til you wake it up. try going into settings/system/ power management or the battery icon. In there go to advanced and make sure that you unmark the two check boxes cuz you obviously dont want the unit to turn off. I hope this works for you.
A friend of mine had this same problem on his P4000. He changed the settings on his phone so that the screen never turns off. When I found out I told him that was a rediculous solution...he told me a CSR told him it was a fix. I convinced him to do a hard reset and it has fixed the problem. If it didn't, I was going to get him to DOA his phone. Try hard resetting...see what happens.
LOL at you people replying to a post from MAY 2007, 4 rom upgrades later toooooo funny
I'm Having the Same Problem
I live in Puerto Rico a US Island 100X35 and hare we have worlds largest collections of antennas per square mile... I is no a problem antennas....
I have the new Sprint ROM I hard reset the Phone and it works for a Day or so without having any app installed on it... and the problem persist... lot of misscalls and some times no voicemail notifications or miss calls notifications
I read a lot and have a lot of hard times with ****ING MORONS in sprint and the have this strange ****ING useless database with most common problems that the only problems reported are with Java and with Bluetooth so after a lot of reading I found some articles about people saying that they ware trying to make some changes to the Bluetooth and they start having problems with calls notifications... Ummmm Java and Bluetooth may be part of the problems when my phone works better is when I have no Headset and when have no Java appz but Hey is a ****ING PDA Phone I want to use Bluetooth... and Java...
What ever it is the problem I don't Know but is someone really know let me know and please **** Sprint and **** Microsoft jejejeje sorry But I think sprint programmers are a bunch of incompetents in a partnership with the Morons of microsoft... and HTC making thinks without thinks about a simple thing (BUG FREE, LOTS OF TESTING, and SOFTWARE and HARDWARE INTEGRATION)
That is what makes Linux what Linux is GPL good Hardware, Testing and Good Integration....
Bluetooth Problems
I've noticed that the problem with missed calls starts happens a lot when I start using my Bluetooth devices. I have the Motorokr S9 headphones and the motorola bluetooth speaker for my car. If I reset my phone then I'll work fine as long as I'm not using bluetooth devices. I'm not saying there's problems with the bluetooth devices but rather the firmware installed on the phone. Hopefully htc/sprint can fix this bug in the next ROM release which is supposed to come out early this year Please let me know if you are having the same problems when using your bluetooth devices!!!!!! We need to find out what's causing this.

Desperate: Bluetooth connecting and disconnecting from car phone

This is so frustrating, got a Trinity about a month ago and where my previous HTC Herald & Wizard worked fine, this one keeps connecting and disconnecting from my car phone set up. I paired it in another car and used it for a while - same thing, so its the phone. I have looked through various forums and find many people have the same problem.
I called HTC and was amazed that they had never heard of the problem before. I told them that I could email them at lest 20 threads with people with this problem. For a $800+ phone I felt their response was unacceptable.
One or two have suggested Jetware, which I have tried but no change. Is there something on here I could try to alleviate this. One point of view is that it has something to do with the way the phone manages its power and drops and raises the bluetooth radio.
I am now desperate as I work from the road and each call gets disconnected 2 or 3 times on avevage. Would a ROM upgrade cure this and if so how do I do it as I havent done anything like that before. Will my phone be OK?
Any help would be very much appreciated
What rom are you using - I ask this because I had the same problem with the wm6 roms i tried but went back to wm5 and no problems since. My car kit is a portable one - Parrot mini, which worked fine with my old phone and now is trouble free with my M700.
I havent messed about with the ROM, it is still the original
I have had this problem with the original ROM, the GPS "Test" ROM and the latest WM6 ROM so that is not the solution. I find that it seems to kick in when the phone locks itself. I have the phone set to self lock after 2 hours, and on a long trip the phone will disconnect from the car's bluetooth when the autolock kicks in. The solution is to unlock the phone and things seem to work OK. The other time I have problems is when I swap between the car kit and an earpiece. If I use the car kit to work, then use the earpiece during the day, before turning it off and climbing into the car for the trip home, sometimes it won't connect with the car. This requires a soft reset.
The Jasjar I had was far worse in this regard.
how did you set up the phone not to lock within 2 hours?
Start/Settings/Personal/Lock
Check the "Prompt if device unused for" box and use the drop down box to set 2 hours.
I have never used the personal lock so I dont think this is the cause of the issue. I did read that it had something to so with the energy saving powering down.
Any other ideas?
No more ideas, but I will do a search of the forums. Perhaps there is a hack? It is certainly power related because I have never had the problem when the device is active, such as when using GPS navigation. Cheers
thanks, I would appreciate that

Bluetooth turns itself off

I have had a problem where my bluetooth just turns itself off for no reason. Anyone else had this.
There were a few posts on this a couple of days ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=440110&highlight=bluetooth
i have the same problem...it is anoying because i use a carkit and every 2nd or 3rd time i start the car, the carkit doesn't connect to my X1 because the bluetooth is off again!
Which panel are you using?
I seem to remember having this issue when I first got the X1 but have not had it for the last few days.
I notice it quickly as my car uses bluetooth and so every time I get in it I see it.
I used to used the middle left panel, now using the SPB panel. Maybe a coincidence of course.
I just rebooted my phone and bluetooth stayed on. I also switched wifi on then off and it is still on. I will monitor it to see if this is the case for the longer term.
Try leaving your wifi off and the BT should then become stable and stay on!
i'm using the today panel (on top left). i also turned on BT and Wifi then i did a soft-reset...but BT didn't worked...Wifi is ok.
anyway...BT should work on every panel as good as on the other...if it doesn't there's a bug.
hope that bug will be fixed after the next fw update, as they wrote on the other thread.

I have still got the problem. Will try not turning on wifi and I have reported it to Sony Ericsson. Hopefully plenty of other people will too to keep the pressure on.

I can attest to this as well. My Bluetooth has been turning off automatically after an unknown period of time. I was running WiFi at the same time, but then turned it off and noticed Bluetooth had stopped working 5 minutes later.
The next time I noticed this, I went into Comm Manager and Bluetooth was "ON", but after clicking the right softkey then "Bluetooth (settings)", WM told me that Bluetooth was off. I turned it back on manually and it was working fine. I really have no idea why, as it has been doing this since I got it (1 day ago, using the X1i in Canada).
A bit off-topic, but I've installed S2U2 and had some problems. I checked the official thread, but no resolutions. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it out on their Xperia. It seems to run fine for a little bit, but then doesn't show up at all after it's invoked (it still responds to the 'unlock slide', and the device isn't frozen. It's just missing the GFX).
Not to turn this into a complaint thread, but a 3rd issue I have with the phone (which I DO LOVE so much still), is that upon every boot up, I get a notification that states "[Connection Setup] The operator does not exist in the database. Please contact your operator for the connection settings. Connections Setup will redirect you to the Connections screen."
After I click HIDE (only option), I'm forced over to the Connections cpanel, where I already have an active "ISP Modem" connection that I setup when I first got the phone. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before and whether or not they have a fix.
Other than that, I'm truly in love with the phone, a perfect device for my needs!

Me too
I still have this problem. I called SE on 4th and they said they would get back to me in 3-5 days which I questioned at the time. I called them again yesterday as I had heard nothing and they had a record of my name and address but no record of a report being made. I have reported the problem yet again. They said I would get a call back today so I will wait and see.
Wasn´t there a song from the Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams" ? or from Roy Orbison "Dream you".
I will take it back IF you get an answer ...

Surprisingly SE just called me back saying they have had quite a few reports of this and they were gathering info so they could pass it through to the developers who are going to release a firmware update. They asked me a few questions about what software version my device had etc.
I urge you if you have this problem to contact them because then it will hurry them along to fix it.
Sony Support - Confirmed Update
Hi all,
Per the above postings I have just contacted Sony Ericsson (UK) support on the following number: 08705 237 237. Support was very helpful and informed me that they were gathering information for new update which should be no promises, released within 2 weeks. They are well aware of two problems. Bluetooth turning off and email/sms alerts not always working. They are looking for any more touble shooting problmes from the X1 community before they close the door developing the new update.
Call now and let's get some of these sorted.
Tom (UK)
ok, so that´s very good and I am taking back my little sarcastic comment

I was as surprised as you were!
I have the same bluetooth problem like you all.
My bluetooth is switched "ON" by default and when I boot up the phone, it is still "ON".
But when I switch the panel, the bluetooth automatically switched "OFF", not sure what is the reason for that.
I tried that but mine stays switched on even if I swap panels. It just seems to turn off randomly.
update
They can add internet explorer mobile 6 to that update as well

Flightmode during calls - atomatic switch off during calls

Hi Guys,
as I am a noob on this forum, i searched around, but couldn't find anything related to my problem.
I do have my brand new Treo Pro (aka Treo 850) and I am having some trouble. When there is an incoming call, I answer it, but after a few seconds - just from nowhere - the flightmode gets active and the phonecall is droped. Maybe even only the phone is switched off... I can not see any difference. While the call is incomming there is no bluetooth active, the batterystate is good, no wifi connection...
I am really sad and frustrated, I switched from an older treo 650 where this problem happens, too. I thought there it has been due to his age, but now – with the same looking problem on my new Treo Pro (850) I am going mad.
Some more Info:
The touchscreen is locked at this time. The callduration was about 10 seconds max.
Could this be some incopatibilty with some of the installed programms, like TCPMP for example?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Yours JamFX
Hi JamFX, I'm a heavy user of my Treo Pro for work and have lots of apps installed; I've never experienced this problem.
You could try uninstalling one app at a time and hope you find the problem that way.
Otherwise try a hard reset if all else fails?
Good luck.
I was having the same problem...
just found that was my mistake...the phone let the touch screen active during calls and it's too sensitive so, your ear hit the signal info icon, hit the comm manager and there activate the air plane mode...you need to answer the call and hit lock that appear on the screen options and there is, no air plane mode active again...
Hope this work for you!
Thanks so far...
Hi Everybody,
thanks for your hints so far. What I've done so far is:
- Uninstall TCPMP
- checked if "lock screen during calls" is active -> was activated...
So I think, that the last solution was quite a good hint, but not for my case. I thought of this, too, so i tried this ;-)
Until now, I didn't had problems, but until now I didn't have so many calls to check. Lets see. I will report them here. If there are any similar cases known please don't hesitate to post.
Thanks
Yours JamFx
