XCPUScalar 2004 2.6 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hello,
Has anyone tried using XCPUScalar? There is a new version available released today. I'd just like to know your comments if it's worth it, and if this type of application is safe to use.
Poch

I use v2.53 which seems very stable.
I'm not sure how good it is at over-clocking and the real difference this makes yo the XDA's useability.
However, the fact that it can reduce CPU speed depending on need, and therefore extend battery life is quite useful.
From the release notes for 2.6, there are a couple of improvements I'd welcome, such as the ability to set the speed on boot rather than revert to default.

Is it stable...? Did it hardreset anyone?
Last time I tried to overclock a PDA was with one of my Ipaqs... it hard reset... and I never did it again...
Can someone give me enough reasurance to try this new piece of SW?
Thanks,
Chris

started using xcpu scalar last night, and i gotta say, its incredible!
got my xda2 running at 530mhz at the moment
before that i used to use pocket hack master, and was good, but complicated,* plus my xda2 would only run stable at 528mhz*
so i got 2mhz extra lol! ;-)
i highly recomend!!

Thank you!
But... how do you know up till what point is stable... and at what point it hardresets? How do you know you could push it to 530 rather than 500 or 700? You push it until it crashes? You get a warning message?
Sorry if the question is a bit naive
Thanks,
Chris

The maximum stable frequency for xda2 is 472-530 Mhz.
Where 472 has more benefits in stability and fatest memory clock.
Mine runs good on 530 in Os menu, but freezes instantly in hard processing soft..like Quake,WmPlayer.(it is also like to anaylze if some programs are running in background and don't support these frequencies)
Note: some application like Camera are more sensitive than others to overclocked fr. but personally I did only encontered benefits in Camera app with more fps.
A benchmark reported that in same cases better performance is on 400mhz and 472 max. (on xda2)
Faster overclock will only degrade your performance, but you can try it.. at least you will have to Soft-Reset or Hard-Reset your device,so backu-up first all your data.

There is no 2mhz extra, the real freq. is 528 but approx. to 530
Also Hack Master is recommende for more professional use, because it offer many options like no other overclock application.

I am sure you are interested to read the overclock results:

safely overclocking the 8125?

i just got this phone and upgraded from an sx66, and i have converted alot of videos to play on the sx66. i encoded them in wmv format at 320x240 res at 340 bitrate and they played flawlessly on it, but on this phone it cant even play it at an acceptable rate. however, if i overclock it to 200+ it runs fine, but im worried that using it for an extended amount of time could harm the device, and i dont make alotta money so i cant risk burning it up. can anyone help me out on this issue, or even offer alternatives to faster video players or better ways to encode?
People on these forums usually overclock safely at 240mhz through omap, which is 260mhz truespeed. My 8125 is overclocked at 252mhz through omap. It runs fine with me. It's only soft resetted on me once. Oh yeah, and it dosen't suck up my battery either.
what do you mean when you say truespeed? and keeping it overclocked won't damage it?
I'm with the 240mghz crowd. It seems to be a good speed. It gives a boost in over all speed, yet is still stable.
No, it won't damage anything.
Overclockign
Which software are you using to overclock?
I use Omap Clock Plus, can be found as freeware on this forum. Works great. I have been using 240mhz, and haven't had any problems. And I leave it on the whole time I've installed it.
I o/c to 240mhz as well. It works fine for me without lockign up or resetting. Im sure you've noticed that every time you come out of standby, you go back to the regular clockspeed. I use the program "smartskey" to keep it overclocked every time i come out of standby. In my opinion everyone smartskey is the most important addon for the wizard. Makes it much more useable in every way.
When you say "TrueSpeed" do you mean this is the actual speed of the proc?
Does that omap clock thingy (The command line one) clock to true speed?
If I tell it to go to 260 by command line, what speed is it actually running at?

overclocking the athena?

I use this program and the speed can reach to 728 MHz.
The machine is still stable and running very fast.
I use XCPUScalar 2005 ver 2.93 bought from PocketGear.com
realy!
it is strange!
i downloaded the latest version and installed
it hanged and not responfding after few minutes...
anyone has the same problem?
thanks!

mine doesn't work as well, strange enough when i plug in the power cable, it does reach to higher speed, and it's quite stable, but when i unplug it, the screen stop responding.
or maybe is it the problem version?
i have the version 2007 v3_01
and how about u, Wu?
regards!

I had similar experiences to you Wu. Happily overclocked to 733Mhz, on AC power, but crashed during movie playback 2 minutes into it.
Tried CPU Scalar many years ago and wasn't too impressed with its compatibility and stability then either. Definately removing it from my Ameo before it causes a major problem...like bricking my device!!
I saw a huge performance increase in WM6 over WM5 on the Universal...my bet is that we will see this same speed increase in the Athena when we get the WM6 upgrade.
Meanwhile, I'm happy with the Athena as is.
i have exactly the same problem like yours, wu!
then how come the other guy is running it normally?
how to get the old version?

Hi Mackaby007,
I'm still using Dopod 900, but didn't have the guts to upgrade it to crossbow. I'm afraid pf getting stability problems since I'm already very happy with the reliability of Dopod 900 at the moment.

I've not experienced any instability with WM6 on Universal in over a month now. Very fast indeed and much more stable than WM5 AKU 3.xxx......anyway, as this thread is about Athena & Overclocking, I merely mentioned speed improvements in WM6 on another device compared to O/C. We can discuss this further if you like in the Universal forum.

YESSS Sooo much more responsive!!! It's like upgrading processor feelings. I guess I don't really need the processor in Athena for now.
Improved XcpuScaler for athena available
There has been a revision of xcpuscaler to version 3.03 (2007) which seems to work fine on Athena.
I have been using it since yesterday and auto scaling works up to 663MHz.
The software interface does not cover the landscape screen fully although you can still make your selections by scrolling doen with the arrow head.
The upgrade is offered free for those who already have the 3.0 version.
Those using it please give your experiences.
Im using XCPUScalar v3.03 the latest one, and my Athena is very stable at 663Mhz (no auto-scale). Can not set it to 728 as it hangs after 20 seconds.
But running it at 663 is more then enough, it is more responsive and can handle 2 tasks the same time ...
I think it will run smoother and more reactive if we disable the auto-scale and running it all the time at 663 Mhz, but the battery life will be a lot shorter of course, I don't really mind as I will get a second battery
victoradjei
you said your using the auto scaling feature and it's stable on your device.
Can you give us more feedback if you are still using this feature??
is the device still stable?? what kind of SW are you running??
Im interested to know actually when you use TomTom, games, media player, waking up the device from sleep mode etc .... how it reacts when the CPU % change all the time.
I'm confused. Doesn't this device have built-in auto-scaling of processor speed? I've played with PocketMechanic, and it seemed to work well. I just wasn't sure it was needed on an on-going basis. The one place I might use it is playing back MPEG2 videos which is laggy in TCPMP. PM helped somewhat. Other thoughts?
hi,
i'm confussed!
the xcpuscalar soft is compatible with the athena?
the athena as a intel processor and the xcpuscalar soft says compatible with omap and scale processors
thanks for your comments

According to the product description, it supports xscale processor. Athena uses an xscale processor PXA270.

Continious Overclocking to 247 MHZ, Safe??

Hey, i Am using the Omap Battery status plugin and I was wondering if I it was safe to overclock the device to 247 MHZ constantly so it will turn on and jump to 247 all the time. Will this have any longterm effect on the device? will it damage the cpu?? do i have to worry ??

Should be fine - have overclocked my wizard and artemis to 247mhz without a problem - many overclock to 260mhz.
Should be alright, since many htc devices are running on TI OMAP 850 cpus. Overclocked my Prophet a log time to 247MHz with no problems.
I don't think it will do any harm, I am clocking at 247 constantly, for about a half year. no prob so far
I overclock my MDA to 286Mhz and don't have any problems. YMMV, but given that the OMAP in the Herald is a newer rev, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little more headroom in it.
FYI: My Wing has arrived, and it's currently overclocked to 299MHz without any issues.
over 300 makes it freeze right??

Try and tell me how it goes!!! *evil*
Never thought 299 would be stable on an OMAP, but it's definitly because of the newer revisions of the OMAPs in HTC latest devices. My old prophet would have burned by anything above 234/247MHz
312MHZ Freeze, okay after Soft reset, no evident damage.
I run it on 260 continuously now, do you run yours on 273 continuously ?

I ran it for two weeks stable, but at 286MHz I already had some sudden freezes.
I'm using 273MHz now with BatteryStatus CPU Scaler.
Running 273MHz continiously results in heavy battery drain (1 max 1,5 days), not a big surprise.
no damage to be expected on long term use ?
Nope. I used it on wizard for 2 years without problems.

Search either for OMAPclock or BatteryStatus (in the HTC Prophet section) I recommend last, because it has many other practical features you might like. OMAPclock would simply be for oc'ing. cheers
my wizard runs at 299 software crashes at 312 but the phone doesn't
sorry if this is a lil random but i've joined a couple of forums already and have lost track what is where, how do i go about installing the battery status plug in on my t-mobile wing, i have a link which can either give me a .cab file or the desktop set up, i know nothing about overclocking and would appreciate any advice to this, sorry if this was already in this thread
Download the latest BatteryStatus (CAB-file) from the sticky thread in the HTC Prophet section and copy it onto your Wing and doubleclick the CAB to install. Everything else should be easy to figure out, otherwise come back here

Sooo which program is better to use on the wing? OMAP or Battery status?

Speedbooster and your Diamond will fly!!

Hi to all, I would share with you my experience with this software:
http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=speedbooster
just installed on my Diamond, and now everything runs smoother and faster!!
I don't know exactly how it works but I must say that it's amazing!
I didn't notice any difference ... :/
Thanks Diego,
I will play around with it this to compare the before and after.
give us a screenshot with the settings that you made so we can try them, I didn't notice any difference either...

Yes, it makes a difference for my diamond too.
I'm using the settings shown on their forum:
Code:
increase gwes.exe for overall drawing speed
increase targetapp.exe to make it run smoother
change target app to the process you use most, like browser or game.
Does this app have any impact on Battery?

overclocking usually kills the battery but diamond microprocessor cant be overcloced... i dont understand very well what does this app do to the device....
i am gonna try it... the posted one is trial 5 days.
It does not overclock the diamond CPU as so far it is not possible, i have CPU benchmarked before and after to prove this and it is no different.
I also do not notice any performance difference from this software, but that may be due to running duttys rom which already includes many performance tweaks.
I installed the trial and maybe I was being paranoid but my battery levels were just dropping more than normal and I wasn't even using the phone . Didn't notice any improvement on the phone either while I had a quick play.
Speedbooster uninstalled.
Speedbooster - Does it work??
Well... I downloaded the 5 day trial but the trial is limited to only partially tweaking/enhancing aspects of the Diamond.
But in saying that I noticed some apps refreshing faster. At almost 15 Euro's I am not game enough to buy this program to see if it works. Our poor Australian dollar would make this program as expensive as 9 BigMacs (without fries!) or half a tank of petrol.
I have tried so many tweaking programs and my conclusion is that if you want your Diamond to run faster wait for future models with a faster processor than the now old & slow Qualcomm 528Mhz. I read that 600 Mhz to 1 Ghz processors are coming.
I would certainly give up my 9 BigMacs for a faster CPU. Only with that will we see a real speed boost in our HTC's!!!
Aussie
correct me if I am wrong but doesnt changing the Pagepool do the same?
anyway all we are talking about here is a milliseconds in time difference.
Are we that time poor that we cant wait 0.5 second for an app to load?
The diamond has its limitations & i would say after a year or so of tweaking the ROMs & all the apps that we have just about reached that limitation.
sounds like a scam to me
No much good reactions, thats sad, i hoped this program would be a nice add-on to our Diamond.
Yeah, just lets wait on new phones with a decent processor, 1 Ghz would be awesome, i'm sure they are will coming very soon

it tried a full cracked version and didnt like it. after a lot of benchmarks i didnt notice any difference...
Ι also used ful verison, to my custom rom, and turn to full gwes.exe and manila2.exe . The diference is very big. I didnt expected it. I dont know if the same will happen to original rom version . (I dont think there is manila2.exe to the original rom)

Yeah its the same for me. Speedbooster makes some apps run much faster.
Strange thing is that the benchmark result is usually the same. This might be a good thing - meaning that the CPU speed remains the same, but it just gives more power to some specific app instead of another. Actually this is exactly what I want:
I don't care about the stupid OS doing stupid things, but I DO CARE about my GPS or webbrowser - and here this proggie seems to give a useful hand.
I agree about the price, is a bit expensive, but at least it works
About the price...
You can get it for free on the developer's website, it's some kind of promotion, you only need to install it, run a benchmark with the built in tool, and post your score:
http://teksoftco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2011
hurry up, I don't know how much it will last!
How it works.
It modifies the process priority similarly to the task manager in windows.
It does other stuff too but that's basically what it does.
and what's the verdict ? does it speed up our Diamonds ? (i was testing it... and didn't notice any difference :/ )
It DOES have impact on performance.
Its very easy to test. Try to lower the system apps and services and you will se that the device run slower.
On TF3D its very clear the it makes it run faster/slower if you change the priority.
My opinion; It works...somehow.

[Q] overclock

Hii guys...i have raised this topic...several times in questions..page..but its left unanswered...so i deleted it...
I just wanted to know that i have installed a program "pocket hack master"..
has anybody used it...what speed should i use...to overclock..
Help me for this program...and to overclock
It is best to overclock using omapclock
I usually go for 256
OKay i appreciate your query. but this pblm/issue has already been dealt in detail.
<http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718633>
so basically its all about overclocking, whichever tool u use. i prefer omap tools. i have not used 'pocket hack master', so can't say anything about the software. but about overclocking: make urself clear, do you really need it? mind it, it boosts performance but you have to compromise your battery life and compatibility with programs like -- i can't run asphalt 4 when i overclock and definitely get fuzzy pictures from the camera.
now to try: don't try at higher rates at first. i had my fren's opal frozen and needed a hard reset. luckily it worked after that. 252, 264 and 276 all work for me. some people, i guess shreyas, had it upto 288. but STRONGLY RECOMMEND u don go to 288 straight. try stepwise. a day or two in one speed each. and you find the one in which ur device will be more stable. and blimey! stick to that.
FYI mine is stable (one or two auto resets every 3-4 days) at 276
hope this helped you provided a little more confidence.
any more help needed and u don get it, our registration is useless.
the audio often crash after overclocking. is there anyway to fix it?
Thanx guys i will use omap clock plus...
