GPS without GPS hardware - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Anybody know of any products that will run without the hardware? just over WAP/GPRS?

RAC does a system called trackm8 but it costs about £500 to set up then £150 a year. It is so cheap to add a gps to your xda, I have seen TOMTOM3 with gps selling for just over £100.

Where?

your welcome.. and to be honest, there isnt really much reason to change roms if you dont need to, if your satisfied with the device then leave it be (the theory of, if its not broke then dont fix it applies here) if you think there are things that need to be changed then by all means, read up and do something about it

only if you think you necessarily need the extra space.. i would probably spend some quality time with the phone, and get to know it a little better before changing it.. it will help to you to get a better idea of what you are looking for, maybe you will want some faster, or more storage.. there are a lot of choices out there that will help cater to your needs

Where did I park my car?

I tried searching, but without any luck. Does anyone know of a program that you press a button when you leave your car and then use the GPS to later locate your car? My 8125 is dieing and can't wait to get the Touch Pro.
Greg
Save the location of your car to your favourite locations on the GPS program (TomTom or whatever you using). Then you can find it.
Cool...that will work.
No2Chem started building an app specifically for that. I never tried it, and I don't think it is still be actively developed, but it should do exactly what you are asking for. Just another option.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21840
Arrfffffff...But with the GPS lag and some approximative positionning on the Diamond and the Touch Pro, don't play with that on a IKEA Parking, because you can turn during hours around your car and the shop will be closed before you find it away...

what you need is gPC from extreme-apps.com
Huge downside is that you have to pay for it :\

Cant you just use a stop watch in conjunction with the speedo then work it out?? I would think that using a GPS application will give you sketchy results at best?
you can get gps performance by searching on google you'll find a torrent of files there.
is it just me that GPC application can't get along well with HD2? I setup the trial version but I can't press any of the icons on the bottom. Only X button on top right works.

No prob
HD mini has a rather high rate of defective units. HTC is usually willing to replace the unit immediately under the warranty period. So that's fine.
But without warranty, it's a big risk to buy HD mini. You cannot find out all the problems in one sitting. Not even in one whole day. You need at least a few days, say, one week, with intensive testing, to bring out the major problems if they exist.

Samsung TechTile NFC Tags

So my local Sprint store had some Samsung "TechTile" NFC tags to use with their app. So I bought some (15$ for 5 tags) and took them home, and immediatley erased them via nfc app on my phone, and reprogrammed them with the same app and it works like a charm. The thing that bugs me about the phone is having to unlock the home screen to scan NFC tags. which sucks but oh well.
Have you checked out the nfc screen off mods? Not sure if it works on the US Variant but check out the thread over at the S3 boards.

So, anytime you wanna charge the phone, it would open Maps and you would have to close the Maps?
More like you can tag it to turn on Bluetooth when you get in the car and turn it off when you get out. Or turn on wifi when you get home by scanning a tag on your front door.
