{Mod edit}
Cheers!
P

Phone calls and emails go unanswered.....

are you guys for real, or what???
and do you actually have any in stock?

Scary stuff, it's gone 3am here, and i'm doing a night time feed of my new baby (5 days old), and e-mailing while i'm up... it's actually taking me about 3 writes of each message before they make sense.... scary!
I think I need to get some sleep ;-)
P
PS When you place your order, I recommend EMS delivery - it may be a little slower, but you are less likely to incur customs charges (which are added as a matter of course by the likes of UPS)

great, thanks, again, modaco... BTW: Good luck with the little one

Now I tried to order it and the code did not give me the discount. I tried to call and the number on thier site is allways busy. Also web paged liked by your post does not have any info on the deal and the banner add with the code is now gone? Whats up?

Now they are saying the deal was only good until 12:00. pretty big piece of info I missed or was not told. I can't say for sure it wasn't on the linked modaco website because it is no longer up, but I know I did not see it.

I second that! They have been great.

Thread closed and sanitised!

Re: my thread about a high frame-rate "app"

Re: my thread about a high frame-rate "app"
wow i'm so appalled by the level of presumptuous judgement being passed here and how easily assumptions are made.
i didn't even KNOW that they would do some lame marketing thing like that.
and FYI you i just sent them a message asking them which drawing mode they use for their "app", also requesting an SMS feature to be added. i then told them i hope they push said "app" to be a fully-featured shell replacement and that i'm confident they'll do a good job at it.
i then went and paid the $25 for said "app" (which i am apparently not allowed to mention here), as i truly commend them for making such a high quality product.
i just downloaded the WVGA skin too.
aaaanyway i just thought ppl would enjoy finally being able to use something ROBUST on the xperia cuz for months i couldn't find anything!!!!
so if anyone would like to know what "app" i'm talking about, i guess now the only way would be to spam the mod asking what the "app" is....... or maybe try and search the threads if it simply remains closed and not deleted/purged...
P. S. like HELL i'd ever waste my time making a youtube vid to get a free license for a $25 product!!!! i spent a grand on an xperia; you think i'd be trying to pull something like this?!?!
anyway.... i forgive you as it was very easy to deduce such an assumption and i probably would have done the same....
don't blame the board, but the company who think that it's great to get people to spam this site with "praise" for their product.
Ummm... misspost?
You could easily have put your original comments onto an existing thread about the app, there are several around.

That's the entire point, It does have at least 2 threads already! (before yours that is).
oh well i was too excited to even check hehe
Can someon please tell me what the hell this is about?
yes please!
Anyone joined a sect here?
I recommend to be very careful when I read such words of praise.
Could it be Iconsoft Phone Extender?
They have a campaign running which lets you get the app for free if you spam forums with ads for their product.
Although they did set up some rules:
(...)
* Information must be posted in the interests of Iconsoft; this provided, no damage may be inflicted on third party interests.
* Any information posted on the Internet must not violate posting rules on the relevant resources.

Personally I will never buy something from a company with such a marketing scheme. If you really need the app and don't have the cash, please get it "elsewhere", without spamming everywhere.
Oh indeed, that's a horrible campaign. I think you had best remove the link, as you're doing exactly what they want ^_^
haha..i think we can sue them for encouraging Spamming..and with the money we can buy each other some cool apps

(ATTN)ROM Hosting(DEVS)

So for quite some time, there has always been issues and complaints about users not being able to download roms from the links posted by the devs on new releases and/or updates (4shared, Rapid share, Mega upload to name a few)
with that being said they are always complaining and begging for someone who gets a complete download to re-upload with a mirror, to make their lives easier...understandable. But if there's one thing I know, "Most" devs hate it when users fill their threads up with a bunch of links...why? well that’s simple:
It confuses others (especially noobs) as to which link is the correct one and the one intended for download by the OP. This means that if someone put a faulty link/mirror that contained a bad file, un-signed zip, or their own custom version of the rom/mod that they decided to play "dev" with and screwed it up rendering it full of bugs...the Dev and/or OP has to deal with the complaints when that user comes back to post. Leaving him confused and dumbfounded as to what the hell they are talking about because nobody else is reporting these issues.
Download count just so happens to be very important to a lot of devs. It gives them a general idea of how many users are flashing their work, which can not only make them feel appreciated and needed by the community because of all the attention...but also create a ratio of problems to success. Example, 300 users download, only 50 come back to report bugs, the rest either don't post at all (I call them ghost readers) or give good feedback. Now, out of that 50 only 7 reported bugs can be legitimately confirmed, which means the other 43 people either did not follow directions clearly, or already had some other stuff going on that effected their experience. Why are these numbers important? Because, if the numbers of bugs are high...the dev knows to update quickly and correct things, if the number of user errors are high...the dev knows he needs to re-adjust his instructions or make them more clear and descriptive so that nobody misunderstands. And if the number of successful flashes are high...well...you know. And all of this can be based on number of downloads...which other users screw up when they post their own links!
Lost and forgotten is what all these mirrors, linked threads/topics, and uploaded fixes by random users become when the topic is over populated (especially big named threads like Eugene, CM, Wes Garner etc). So if the thread has 105 pages and an important link was dropped by a user that proved to be helpful way back on say...page 23! How in the hell is anyone who hasn't been following the entire topic to know that? And nobody in their right mind, who has a life, is going to sit there and skim all 105 pages. So if you must, or feel, that you have a useful link pertaining specifically to the topic that can help others, the best resolution would be to PM it to the OP, so that they can update the first post where all users can easily refer back to if need be.
Now with the why covered, let's move on the the what. And the what is what I have to offer:
A hosting service that I paid for out of my own pocket. This is my way of contributing to the community, as I do not offer donations, sorry. But for the exchange of helpful information, resources, mods, and great roms! I hereby offer all devs, and I do mean DEVS ONLY (yes that includes themers) the use of this hosting service is at no cost to them.
How beneficial is this you ask?
For Devs:
unlimited online storage space for all zips, rar's, and other files that are specifically related to the xda development (No personal storage like mp3's, movies, and family portrait please)
direct download links! No pop-ups, No ads, No human text box verifications
unlimited links- they never run out of time or number of downloads they will stay on the internet forever!!!! (or until you remove it)
Detailed info- keeps track of number of clicks, page views, downloads, you name it, you get your own personal page to view this statistics at any time
No size limit! Big or small, you upload it all (multiple uploads at once supported as well) I have not seen anything in any of these forums over 200mb...so if you're running up 1-2 gigs of use in a matter of days I will be investingating your usage!
For users
No more 4shared yay! Lol
No time wait (30 secs, 90 secs or whatever) Downloads start immediately after clicking the link!
No pop-up or separate browser pages to go to, download starts without the need to open a new page or tab, so you can easily continue on reading through the forum you are in
Links are never broken-they will always work until the OP removes it
No signing up, no memberships.. paid or free, just download. Same benefit as downloading links uploaded directly through Xda, except you don't have to be logged in to click these!
To keep things under control and fair I will only allow 3 request per week for access to this service. I'm not sure how many devs are registered and active but I'm quite sure there are a lot. Eventually all devs who are interested will have the opportunity, but for my own conveyance I will only take 3 request a week, because I will not be online everyday to take all request, this also give me the time to help each individual to get set-up and answer any questions they may have.
I do not discriminate by phone make or model. All devs are welcome to this offer regardless of what phone they developed for. However; I will only post this thread here in the Vibrant forums, well, because that's the phone I use. But Mods are more than welcome to sticky it or link the word to other locations so that all devs can read. My only rules are:
Must be and already have been a member of XDA for at least one year.
Must provide at least two links to their work contributed here in the xda forums
Must have a valid email address and/or twitter account. (simply so that I can contact and update you if any changes or problems occur)
Must only use this service for the development of roms/themes/mods. Please do not take advantage of my kind heart, and use this hosting service for your own personal purpose, I will know, and I will take away privileges.
How to sign up for this?
Simply PM me if you are interested... with the above^^ requirements, and I will give you all the details and instructions you need.
Unfortunately, I will not start taking request until Monday of next week, a relative has just passed away a couple of days ago, and I am closing a deal on a new home, trying to fit time for a funeral, and moving all in one week can be a headache. But you are welcome to start sending me request if you like, but as I said I will only deal with 3 at a time. So if you send a request and don't hear back, please do not continue sending me your inquiry. Your voice has been heard and will be responded as soon as I get to you. Thank you.
Wow, I'm not a dev or anything like that but this is real nice of you. Kudos to you sir.

This will not only help the devs, but the forum community in general, making it much more easier on both ends, so i thank you for this. Kudos to you.
TL;DR
You might also want to post this in the Dev sub-forum too. It's over here --> Vibrant Android Development.
Thanks for providing the service.
I hope you have some serious monthly download allowences. I do some hosting not related to XDA and I'm easily pushing 30Gig a month, which spikes even more depending on releases.
What your doing is awesome none the less.
If you find that you are pushing some serious downloads you could always turn some builds into torrents and use your machine as the master seed and let others help out that want to help out. Lord knows my machine at home has been seeding many Linux builds over the past months.

Not to disrespect you in any form or way, I appreciate this thread to the developers but this idea has been made quite a while ago since the first-generation of Android phone (G1).

AndroidSPIN has been around for a long time and has provided hosting for developers and their ROMs as well as a pretty organized database.

Yes, I already know this. But please understand this is specifically for xda...androidspin is its own website in itself, also still has its limitations as well as ads and opens new pages/tabs for downloads. My service does not do that, and is without limits.

Congrats I wish I had an unlimited bandwith host. I can get away with gigs of storage, but they caped me around 60gig a month.
Anyways hope it works out.
good luck, ive tried this a few times but seems like devs like those crappy upload sites. i'm gonna take a guess and say you are on a site like hostgator or something with "unlimited" bandwidth, watch it cuz its only unlimited untill you use to much resources.
Just an idea.
Why don't we create a distributed system using available tools/software like torrent files.
We need one or more torrent server/tracker and list of volunteers to be reliable seeders. Once you sign as a seeder, you will receive a list of # files you'll seed 24/7 until you receive an updated list.
I don't mind seeding 5-10 files 24/7.
We can retire any file at any time if there is no interest and archive it.
By archiving i mean switch to more "standard" way of hosting it like http or ftp access.
And when a new release is out the downloading will be even faster.

To all devs and xda..

First i want to start by saying im sorry that you all are not understanding what the 5 bucks is for . its hard to find things on the net and in the forums. When i first started i came here to xda i soft bircked my phone from a rom so i asked for help here and got yelled at, called names and told im posting in the wrong room . I didnt know, but still someone could of helped me instead i was made fun of and laughed at for my spelling here at xda . so i went out and found out alot about phones made a couple videos and poof everyone found me ....i was helping so many people, my phone was none stop ringing but i picked up . i helped them out by telling people where to go, how to get what they want was hard so i made a site it was free all day up intill 5 months ago . see the site was coasting me 250 a month that i did not have but people still needed help they tryed to come here but people where mean cuzz where noobs . so thats why at akaskriller.com it coast 5 bucks . everyone knows these roms are free on the net there not paying for the roms there paying for a just cause for helping people in need no matter what . for the roms i put out i say i hacked theme or themed them out . its fun to theme them out and help people ..
so im sorry if u all got it wrong and i give back to the devs that i take the most calls on lol but for real you all stop being silly and saying bad things about me.
and we pay peoples bills that can not ... ask your selfs y do you all care so much what others do for help?
seriously? why hide the roms behind donations then? why not post it freely and market it as a pay support site? why post paid apps for free behind the donation? why not post it all for no donation at all and post a link for 5.00 a month tech support? i'm certain this thread will be locked in no time and look forward to the humiliation headed your way.
I do not accept your apology. You are a fraud. You stole peoples work to make money

it doesn't matter your logic for any of that.
1) you cannot advertise anything that has a registration/paywall on xda, it's against the forum rules (it's the same reason we don't see posts by samfirmware stuff anymore, even though we all know about it)
2) you cannot include links to services/devices you sell (it's fine to tell people of a download mode JIG and even to check ebay or other places, but to point directly to yours is also against the rules)
3) if you don't have the money to run the site, don't run it (why host anything at all beyond a few lightweight html files with explanations)
4) make the donation optional. register for the site for free and then people can donate if they want (hey, sounds an awful lot like what xda is)
5) do you have the permission of the ROM developers to repost their work elsewhere? (especially behind a lazy paywall)
if you can't follow xda's rules, then what do you expect to happen?
What you do is wrong!
1. You host warez on your site.
2. You steal all of out Dev's roms
3. Just link you "subscribers" to xda
Why not use something like forumotion.com to so you don't have to pay?
And the no credits?
This... this is going to get nasty unfortunately.

@aka , not s15 >.>
see this is xda all you all do is talk bad im sorry but there are no paid apps in site and app brain or 4share.com lol theres all your apps for free ... i tell you all and you dont here me
And the lying about creating a Gingerbread ROM with GPS?
I think the point that most are upset with is that you have done this in a sneaky manner and not asked any dev if it was okay to post their work. For us to put sometimes months into building a better rom and then you to take it change a couple icons or colors and then post it as your own work when you probably wouldn't know a XML from a bml and charge people for "support" which they get here for free. I personally have tried to answer every "noob" that has approached me and not once charged.

Proprietary Viewsonic Gtablet Android Binaries & Drivers Pack

Viewsonic Gtablet Specific Binaries & Drivers
For everyone who may have been waiting for this I present to you the proper Proprietary Viewsonic Gtablet Binaries & Drivers according to Cyanogen Mods Tutorial of Compiling Gingerbread Rom which also discusses how to pull the Proprietary Drivers and Binaries from a Malata smb_a1002 Device which is a Viewsonic Gtablet specifically.
To all who want to test with these Binaries and Drivers before testing with these please understand that these are the Binaries and Drivers the Viewsonic Gtablet Stock ROM uses. When using these specific Binaries and Drivers understand that these files may already exist and that replacing just one of these can disrupt the way a current ROM may be running. This can be caused for a number of reasons...
1. When replacing the libraries and binaries with these understand the alot of these specific files are tied together to make the Gtablet work the way it does, so in essence replacing one of these libraries or binaries with one on another ROM can cause the ROM itself to look for the other libraries and binary files that are specifically in this package.
2. You may get away with mixing and mingling these files but it's a hard and time consuming process to debug which ones can and can't work with other vendors binaries and libraries but this is how the work must be done
3. If there is a file missing do not blame me this is what I know according to Cyanogen MODs Wiki. If you wan to view there tutorial go to there website, and look through there WIKI.
Proprietary Android Binaries & Drivers: http://linuxboxsolution.com/linux-b...t-Proprietary-Android-Binaries--and--Drivers/
Issues have seemed to be resolved with submission to github.
That zip file would've been slightly more useful had it contained the original paths of those proprietary files.

Critisism and words of caution are equally as important as praise.
Be wary of of folks trumpetting the quality of their product to increase profit while doing nothing to provide evidence to support those claims.
That said, what TnT build do these files come from and are they different than what is used in CM7 or some of the AOSP based projects ?
nunjabusiness said:
What exactly does this group of files bring to the table?
If it is simply the extracted stuff from the original TapNCrap that it came with, the only thing I can think of that we are really missing now in the HC ROMs is camera support.
Click to collapse
In my eyes the only major issues with HC are:
1 camera support (possibly fixed with these files)
2 hardware acceleration (probaly not fixed with these files)
So, one of the two major HC drawbacks might be fixed. IMO camera support isn't as importent as hardware acceleration, but it's still on my 'must have' list. Who cares if camera support came from TapNCrap, as long as it works?
All of the HC ROMS are on par with each other (pre-packaged apps and launchers aside) so if one HC ROM gets camera working then that would be the better ROM IMO.

I went to his site and I saw no ads, no banners, no links for a donation or links to other products. MAybe those links were there but they were not prominent, so it hardly looks like an ad scheme, it's not like thousands of people will flock to his site to download files and be drawn into his tangled web of crafty salesmanship. How many people are developing ROMs for the gTab?
Why does it matter if it's his site vs another site?

5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, either pay or find your cracks and serials somewhere else. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained.
7. Do not spam.
If you wish to advertise a product, contact us we provide ads. But do not post it in the forums, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban.
You are however allowed to sell used goods like your own device, parts of your device or accessories for your device in the marketplace forum, please read the rules there before posting. (This rule includes signatures, if you use a signature it will appear in your post)
8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does not mean we agree with everything the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.
11. Don’t post with the intention of selling something.
•Don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar/substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com.
•Do not post press releases, announcements, links to trial software, or commercial services. unless you’re posting an exclusive release for XDA-Developers.com.
•Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited.
•Off-site downloads are permitted if the site is non-commercial and does not require registration.
•Off-site downloads from sites requiring registration are NOT encouraged but may be permitted if the following conditions are met:
A) the site belongs to a member of XDA-Developers with at least 1500 posts and 2 years membership who actively maintains XDA-Developers' support thread(s) / posts, related to the download,
B) the site is a relatively small personal website without commercial advertising/links (i.e. not a competitor forum-based site with purposes and aims similar to those of XDA-Developers.com.)
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.
What if macbroom and LBS are the same person. He created an alter ego just to stir interest and attention to himself because he loves it. Twist!

Well said.
The vast majority of the responses in this thread are pretty shameful. And I think the most a moderator could do is edit some of these comments (which, imo, they should).
Some advise - on occasion I've lost my cool and written things I later regretted. I suggest that some of you use the edit button, clean up the hateful comments and maybe drop in a "I apologize" retraction while you're at it.
And @LBS, keep in mind that most people do appreciate what you do (myself included). I know how hard it is to make ROM's, and support them, but there will always be a few bad apples. I have pulled back from here (and Slatedroid and TR) this summer as I decompress a bit, so I'm not sure if there's some history outside of this thread which created this tension. But from my vantage point, all LBS is doing is using his own web site to better control how he disseminates information. How is that any different than what goodintentions is doing, for example? Isn't the end goal to help users make the most of their GTAB?

Thank you, Roebeet I have been tirelessly supporting LBS's effort. It was starting to feel like a full time job. I am glad you jumped in. It is bad when conversation is not about the rom but gets more personal in nature. People were coming at me because I expressed my like of his work which is pretty darn good at that. But you know I am a fan of your work too. You pioneered the HC rom industry for G Tab, so you know we appreciate you. I trbardelljr I hope I got his name right of Flashback is doing an incredible job as well even though I haven't tried his rom yet. My problem is I got hooked on illuminate because it is that good.
I noticed some have gotten into the dual rom running and I might try that so I can check out different roms at the same time, too.
Enjoy your down time. We look forward to your return.

I have edited some of my posts in the interest of cleaning up some of the residual mess in this thread. I also suggest that some others do the same so we can get back on track.
I hope that you are enjoying your break and time with your family and we all hope that you will return in the near future. You were the main reason that I purchased my Gtab.
P.S. You may also want to edit your last post after catching up on the other threads.

I just went back and re-read the posts I have made in the past couple of weeks here and stand behind every one 100%.
Now ... on the OTHER forum I (and others) may have gotten a little bit too zealous in some posts but ultimately, the mods agreed with us and locked the threads.
To be completely fair though, none of those posts got really combative until "autistic" started it.
Hey,
Folks, there is a new version of illuminate that was released yesterday that is outstanding... to spin off on from the fact we are on LBS's thread. While many of us may not know how to use these "binaries and drivers" but LBS and other devs do and they are more then likely included somewhere in his updated rom. It is a pretty incredible HC rom.
The speed on it is astounding with no hick-ups. I spent last night driving it hard just to see what it could do and matching the differences in his previous releases. It is pretty incredible. Loads multimedia files...pics, videos and music like they are text.
Update from the LBS kernel thread

Kernel source needs provided as per GPL. All this looks like is a rebranding of someone else's kernel - to dispel that belief please provide source and changes or else this will be removed as it would be in violation of the rules.

I had mentioned that I wasn't sure if there was a history, but I suspected that there might be as these things usually are a slow boil. Since I've been out-of-the-loop, if there were other threads I hadn't seen them, at least not yet.
Honestly, I haven't delved into these other HC ROMs recently, so I don't know what's in them. So I can't base an opinion unless I ripped them apart -- the last one I did open up was Flashback, so I know that tlbardelljr had some unique stuff in the framework.
The point was that people need to be careful as these things can be taken out of context if they don't know the history (if there is a history). I know this from personal experience, unfortunately.

Just to be clear, those are your affiliate links on that site, aren't they? In other words you'll get commissions if anyone clicks through and buys.

To answer your question in short, yes they are my affiliate links with Amazon and I do earn a commission whenever a product is purchased using those links. However, don't think that's the only reason I put them up. They provide more information about the product and the whole purpose behind this was to help people make informed decisions when contemplating to purchase different tablets for the holiday season.
Affiliate links arent allowed on XDA.
Consider this a warning on the subject.
