XDAII Compatibility on Australian Networks - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi guys,
Im from Melbourne, Australia. I had a P800, which I lost last week. I was going to get the P900 (due out here in 2-3 weeks), but have decided to go for an XDAII. The problem is, insurance can get that model (in about 2 weeks they said), but they told me that the XDA doesn't work on their network.
Im with Optus by the way.
Does anybody know why the XDA wouldn't work on the Optus network, or IF this would be the same case with the XDAII? I absolutely love the XDAII, and am eagerly awaiting its release here so I can get it, but not if it doesnt work on the Optus network. Does anybody here know? Thanks in advance.....

Hey there....I'm an Aussie also (Brisbane) and whoever told you that Optus don't support the XDA is full of #$&!. I have been using an XDA on the Optus network now for over 6 months. Here's proof : http://www.optus.com.au/shop/ow_pda
Funnily enough - i recently damaged mine (accidentally) beyond repair and have also been given the option of getting any new phone of my choosing (guess which one I am going to choose!)
XDAII of course!!!
So - do you (or anyone else) have info on the expexted release date in Australia (other than the "end of November" posted on the myxda.com site)???
Can't wait!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your quick reply.
Thats what I thought, why the hell would they sell a device that wasn't compatible on their network? Insurance on the 1800 number are extremely useless about details, they werent even aware what a PDA was, they said "they only sell mibile phones"!. HAHA.
I called a guy at Optus at Highpoint shopping centre where I signed up, he said the XDA had a retail price of $1290, and that the XDAII would be available around 2-3 weeks. He said expect to pay about $1,500.
A more reliably source at Calculator King in South Melbourne said it would be between $1,400-$1450. He also said 2 and a half-3 weeks, and that was on Saturday! Cant wait for this beast of a device to bless my paws. P800 is a good phone, P900 even better, but they are like comparing a Audi to a Lamborghini when throwing an XDAII into the equation.

it should be compatible with every gsm network as far as i understand what the gsm std defines

what you are saying is right
the reason they might think its not compatiable is the fact that some HTC phone's work on the 900/1900 GSM band and some on the 900/1800GSM Band
in Aus we are on the 900/1800
the XDA II is triband 900/1800/1900 so it has to work
i will now soon im getting my very soon!!
CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MikeXDA2:
With the insurance (mine is gonna take another 10 days to process), If you want to upgrade your handset, do they go by retail price for the phone that you did the insurance claim on, and then you add money on top?
What I mean is, say with my P800 and I want to get the XDA2, Do they tell me that I will have $1,490 credit for my P800, and then pay the difference (if any) for the XDA2? Or, as its through insurance, do they go by a different price other than retail?

When are Orange going to wake up..

When are Orange going to wake up.. M5000 is
a) late
b) data charges are more expensive than O2
c) device will actually cost more that the *already out* XDA Exec.
I have loyalty to orange.. but the price difference and delays are too much.
Besides which I have 900 business user im wanting to put on and to be honest.. which one I use for my personal use will prolly be the same I as Instruct my company to buy.
Get off your ar$e orange.. Your the slowest and most expensive in the pack. Why in hells name would a business want to go with you even with existing loyalty when its like this.
And the orange price promise seemed to go out of the window years ago. It should now read "We'll copy any tariff that's pretty expensive and come up with 1001 excuses not to match any that you may want."
the m5000 is available in france, and not very expensive :
700 € without any subscription....
Aye bud..
Its so bloody annoying.. I actually prefer working and developing with Orange but the Account manager is useless and never returns calls or emails(previous one on maternity leave was better).
Promises have been broken time and again on released date (anyone remember when they said it would be ready the 2nd of Sept 2005 lol).
If Imate, 02 and t mobile can get it right.. WTF are Orange playing at.
The current tariff structure is near archaic – 3G on orange is really expense.. This idea of downloading a music video or a powerpoint slide on 3G just makes me want laugh… yeah if you want to spend 16 pounds on one song..
it begin to be interesting with orange, for example, TV is without limit every week end ...
another potential problem with the Orange M5000.... IT MIGHT HAVE WI-FI DISABLED :!:
I was reading about the different models during the past few weeks before I finnally gave up and bought my xda Exec last week.
What I gathered from specialised sites was that Orange was considering disabeling the Wi-Fi capabilities of the M5000. a very stupid move i might add.....
In any case I went into an Orange shop early last week and enquired about the matter (and soon gave up due to the 'highly' knowledgable staff  ) - the guy claimed that he was SURE that its not disabled - the person there showed me the info on Orange's intranet - and it actually has a remark there regrding the Wi-Fi capability of the device - that it "is up to the discretion" of the mobile operator....
I have no vested interst here - all I'm saying is - take care and make sure it has Wi-Fi b4 u buy it!
Shhh that is serious.. can anyone confirm that the Orange M5000 does or doesnt have WiFi?
It has WIfi

Stu,
What was in the box? Did it get the spare battery as promised? What s/w is installed in the ROM and did you get an more on CD? What version is the ROM?

Why Aren't O2 UK Releasing the XDA Trion?

Hi All,
I am an O2 customer in the UK and as they were the original company to bring the XDA concept to us, why have they chosen to not release the XDA Trion in the UK? I am well aware it is out in Germany but why not here? Have they got too many XDA Mini S units in stock or what?
If anyone can shed some light on this, please do, what have they kept up their sleeve? Is there something better on the way already?
I look forward to your comments and thanks for the feedback.
I just had a call from o2 for business following my email to them of when they expected the Trion to be released in the UK, and the rep said that there were no plans to release it in the UK at all.
So, how are they going to compete with T mobile who not only are going to release it over here, but also have a great data tariff in Flext with web n walk?
Orange, who are already offering it, and vodafone who already have it apparently!
I have been with O2 since the Genie days, and have been reasonably happy with them up until recently. Probably round the time they were bought out.
Bizarre!
They didn't do the XDA Neo either.
Maybe they have something better up their sleeves?
Well Voda and T-Mobile has HSDPA but O2 don't so perhaps this the reason why. However it does seem a bit odd given the amount of effort O2 made over the XDA Exec.
O2 tend to have a yearly lifecycle on their XDA's whereas the other SP's tend to release as and when. Bearing this in mind and the fact that the Mini S and Exec have only been out for 8 and 9 months respectively, I wouldn't expect to see a new device from O2 until November/December.
Interesting point on the product life cycle. I have heard that O2 are seriously looking at releasing the HP Ipaq 6915, so maybe that is why they have steered clear of the Trion for now. Also I do not like the look of the HTC TyTn or the Vodafone V1605 compared with the Orange SPV M3100 and Trion. The button configuration on the latter two is more pleasing to the eye. So if I want one I have to go for the "ugly" one as I have a great deal from O2!!! I wish we could get the Dopod 838 pro here, subsidised on contract!!!
I just had an interesting conversation with O2 business regarding the release of the XDA Trion in the UK.
First person I spoke to told me that the Trion was not on the 15 week schedule of new phones releases so it definately wouldn't be released in that time.
So I phoned a different number at O2 and was told that the Trion is expected sometime late August or September??!!! I told the man what I had previously been told by the other rep and he says that is rubbish and that the unit is currently being tested by the testing unit prior to it's UK release!
So it seems the phone is coming to the UK...but I bet if I call a third person at O2 they will tell me something completely different...*sigh*
Why dont these people sing from the same hymnsheet?
Anyone heard any different news on the Trion's UK release date (if ever?)??
Al
You are right there. They have no idea what they are doing. Someone I spoke to said it is for America only. I said O2 have a network in America, she says yes, not checked, but I didn't think so. I said so why is out in Germany? You must be mistaken sir, must be.
I asked about HSDPA, and they checked with network services who said it is not being released by O2 as it offers very little extra bandwidth over 3G. I said I think you should ask them to check that.
I am on such a stonking tariff, I do not want leave O2, so here's hopeing the Trion turns up, otherwise I will have to conisder the P990i.
Yes Sunnychad, they dont have a clue. I really want this phone and am on a mission to find out the truth about UK release or not. See what you can find out at your end too.
Al
I spoke to someone in retentions about leaving as I wanted to move to a network that has the equivalent of the Trion and is offering HSDPA too. She put me on hold after telling me I was a select customer etc. Came back to say it is on the cards but there is no confirmed release date as the Trion is still in testing etc. I said OK. She then said there is something else coming called the O2 Jet. I am also aware that O2 are releasing the HP HW6915.
Also just found this link. I wonder what this handset is.

This is an O2 xda Atom Exec:
http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaAtomExec/template/Product.vm
It is manufactured by Quanta, not HTC:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Atom_Exec
I think you are mistaken.
There are pictures of 2 phones, one is referred to as New XDA and has a camera on the front panel, therefore 3G.
The other is of the XDA Atom Exec in a state of disrepair. Have another look and let me have you thoughts.
Thanks

don't know which one is it :?
Thanks Sunnychad. Both the O2 Jet and Atom Exec are not phones I'd want. Desperate to have th O2 Trion, just love it's look and feel and want to stay with O2. Please can you keep me posted regarding anything you hear about it's UK release?
Thanks
Al
Email just recieved....
I've just recieved an email from O2 re. the release of the Tytn, doesn't look good....
"Thank you for your email.
Sorry for the delay in responding, I can confirm that the Xda Trion is not going to be released in the UK, this device is to be sold overseas only. I can only apologise for the mis-leading information provided by customer services, the device as you have stated has been released in Germany, although I am also unsure if it has been released anywhere else. There will be future PPC / WM devices in the future, however as yet we are unable to ascertain what these devices will be and also when they will be released.
My apologies we cannot assist further, however If you have any further problems, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

But are we to believe this latest reponse when the tesing team are actually 'testing' the Trion for the UK now?
Wouldn't take too much from that. You know, I think we just have to wait and see as O2 can't give us anything solid to go by.
Al
O2 UK are not releasing the Trion.
Dave, I don't think anyone can comment about it's release for sure as I've been told by the media dept. at O2 that they are testing the unit for general release in the UK. Also Ive been told by a shop (unbelievable I know) that it is to be released. As well as being told completely conflicting info by other sources.
We'll see.

Yes they do it was rolled out mid to end of september.
I got mine yesterday. I moved from a Sprint 6700 to the Cingular 8525. Loving it so far - I've been reading this forum for several months so I pretty much knew what to expect.
Change your sig!
You need to represent your crew =P
Later, Lew
i just ordered mine today from cingular!!! Tried on thursday and they said it wasnt in their ordering system yet, so i called today (friday morning) and they said it was in there but not available to ship yet, so i called back later on tonight and she was able to place an order for me!! and i get free expedited shipping, i should have mine on monday!!!
Here's a question for you:
I purchased a TyTN last week rather than wait for the 8525 for a couple of reasons. First, I travel world wide and my company has SIM's in the major locations that are country specific, much cheaper and bill back directly to the company. Having a virgin, unlocked TyTN makes this a breeze. Second, I HATE being locked into the "upgrades" that Cingular always puts on their phones (like disabling DUN on the Treo 650....) so I usually always unlock the phones and flash them back to a RoW image.
With all that being said would I gain ANYTHING by flashing my phone with THIS officially released Cingular image? Would you do it?
The reasons I'm considering it are 2 fold:
1. Perhaps the Radio ROM is better
2. It would provide the default Cingular GPRS/UMTS settings so I don't have to re-input them every time I cold boot the phone. (I'm sure there's a way to save these either through a registry hack or a file hack but I haven't found it yet).
Again, What would you do in my situation
BTW, the phone ROCKS. Cingular has UMTS in my market (Central Florida) and aside from a UMTS glitch in the North Orlando switches earlier this week that drops call (they say it's fixed) the performance with internet and Goodlink have been outstanding.

Yeah Tom the engineer said they are in the optimization phase right now so they will be occasionally taking down sites and fixing. The one in Orlando had a problem with the T1 line. I will be posting more updates as i talk with him about the CFL area.

Does anyone know who the flagship network operator will be for the desire HD?

THinking of getting the DHD on my network Orange when i'm due for an upgrade in October and i was wondering if it will actually be available? Does anyone know what the flagship network will be?
Please don't say o2 lol, i hate those buggers.
As far as I know, Vodafone is going to be the "flagship". HTC seemed to be bigging them up a lot at the launch event.
Orange and T-Mobile are getting the phone too, but they didn't get a mention.
O2 so far aren't even getting the phone at all!
3rd party online stores are offering the HD on T-Mobile, Orange, O2 and Vodafone...always best to get from a 3rd party as to not get a crap branded handset!!

Yep, that's what I did with my TP2 and is what I'm doing with my HD
I have it ordered from a 3rd party on Vodafone. I wonder because it will be the first shipment will it have all the Vodafone crap on it or touch wood it will be sim free ??
Depends where you get it from and whether you're first shipment or not.
When I ordered my TP2 from mobilephonesdirect I was first shipment and Voda didn't even have theirs yet - so I got an unbranded one.
I don't know if somewhere down the line Voda got their stock and MPD started selling from Voda stock rather than sim-free stock...
I expect at this stage all stock that doesn't come direct from an operator will be unbranded and sim-free.
I ordered it from here immediately once they started taking orders so i should be in the first shipment - http://www.mobiles.co.uk/htc-desire-hd.html
Here's hoping its sim free then m8
I've just sent Orange an email asking about a release date. I'll post back when I hear something.
I never use a 3rd Party. Insurance is 6.00 a month on Orange. They replace the phone the next day usually no questions asked.
If you buy 3rd party you cannot insure your phone direct. You end up paying about 10.00 a month then if you want to claim they try everything to get out of helping you.
In my experience always buy direct. I know the branding is a pain. Custom Roms get rid of the bloatware. A small badge you can put up with.
If you buy a 3rd party phone the main operator will always tell you to contact who you bought your phone from if there's a fault.
That's where you will start having problems.
Sent from my HTC Hero
I phoned Vodafone about my TP2 when I got it asking if I can have insurance put on through Vodafone rather than via the reseller and they said "Yep no problem" and put it on for me! Not had to use it, but just saying...
That's good maybe it's just Orange. I got a phone from Phones 4 you years ago and Orange wouldn't touch me on insurance. I just like to deal direct because I get really good loyalty discounts.
Sent from my HTC Hero
I know what you mean. When I upgraded from my K800i to my TyTNII Orange were really really great at giving me a good deal.
I actually used to work for Orange about 4 years ago, and I still have a warm place in my heart.
I'm defecting to T-Mobile this time so I can take advantage of Everything Everywhere, makes me feel like I'm getting closer to Orange again.
Orange Care was by and large one of the best aspects of their service. I used it on my old SPV M2000 which I crushed on the day I got it by tripping over a rope fence. Problem I had was that they had none to replace it with so I got stuck with an SEP910i - which was no replacement for the M2000. There was a big scandal about it and the media got involved and in the end I got a brand new M2000.
I would have stuck with Orange for my TP2, but it was going to take a couple of months for it to be available on Orange whereas I could get it on Vodafone instantly, and I was so fed up with my TyTN II that I begrudgingly jumped ship. Not that Vodafone have caused me any problems. Orange just had a bit more of a personal touch. Vodafone is very corporate and don't seem as 'fun' as Orange are.
My work Treo Pro is on Vodafone anyway, so it's no loss
Wow, I ended up talking a lot there.
Orange are not ideal as they tend to mess with the handset too much for my liking. I did mention this in another thread but orange don't seem to have any information on DHD, one of the sell reps even suggested they might not even get it at all!!
mobilphonesdirect.com are quite good they have confirmed handset will be sim free and are offering the cheapest deals. Ordered mine today expected to get it on he 7th October, wait and see.
I'm pretty sure orange will get it since they're merged with T-Mobile. I read that they'll be rebranding around 2012 too. I can't imagine orange not getting it, it would be a mistake on their part in my opinion.

Xperia Z3: The Australian Thread

Hey Guys!
So the Xperia Z3 went on pre-order on the 1st of October with orders landing on doorsteps this past week.
Those who won a PS4 with their order have also been notified by now, and those orders begin shipping next week.
I personally think I may have been one of the first to order at 9:12am direct from Sony Online, as I was also selected as a winner for the PS4. (yay!)
This thread will be a general area for Australian owners and potential owners to hang out, ask questions, get advice and get help quickly and within your time zone.
If anyone helps you or offers you advice don't forget to hit the ":good: Thanks" button in the bottom left corner of their post!
Please let me know if there's any important Australian specific information and I will put it here in the OP!
Qn: Is flashing a generic Aus firmware (ie on an Optus, Voda, Telstra, Virgin phone) as simple us using Xperifirm to download, and Flashtool to decrypt, build and then flash?
Assuming the models are the same I don't see why not.
I know one of the carriers was meant to carry an exclusive model that also worked with their new 4G bands that they were rolling out.
The one I received from Sony directly is the D6653 model.
Any idea where i can buy one not tied up to a carrier? I'm at Brisbane CBD at the moment
It's in stock at Sony Australia: https://www.sony.com.au/product/xperia+z3

I got mine from Yatango Shopping (previously called Mobicity).

how much is the phone and where can you buy it unlocked?
my sister wants to switch from her iphone 4s to the Z3.
retail from Sony AU is $859. Slightly higher pricepoint than their previous flagships.
Yatango is ~$799 i believe at the moment.
There may be cheaper options at present from HK/UK (Clove / Handtec) (exchange rate and shipping dependant)

If they haven't got it at launch, I highly doubt they will get it later. Give them a call though!
Hey guys, got my Z3 on Saturday and I'm loving it! Great phone, except for one major issue... I can't make phone calls at my workplace, despite it being in a strong Optus reception area of Melbourne CBD. Nobody else at work has a problem with Optus, and callers can hear me perfectly, but I cannot hear them. All I hear is a very broken up sound, like when you are in a poor reception area. If I force the phone into GSM only mode, it works. And it works fine in other areas that I've tried, albeit none of them were big buildings in the CBD.
There is another user on Whirlpool reporting the exact same issues with 2 Z3's on Optus. I'm not sure how to proceed with this. Optus technical support escalated the issue for me and were going to organise to have the phone replaced, although I really doubt that will solve anything.
Hey @tooch1, I posted on whirlpool forums some time back about having this issue but no one seemed to notice or even care.
It's happened on 3 z3's (one I purchased from eglobal which I've returned, and 2 optus outright handsets – 1 which I got replaced and another that I'm currently using).
I've diagnosed the issue to only occur when I'm connected to WiFi AND using 4G. However if I disconnect from WiFi its fine. Same holds true if I stick to keeping WiFi connected but switch to GSM only mode.. It's really odd. I'm wondering if it's a software issue because i don't know if I could be THAT unlucky to have had 3 faulty devices
Not gloating, just trying to help - I have not experienced this when on optus 4g/wifi (Melbourne) - meaning device specific I guess. Confirmed by torrenting off apple store free wifi whilst on voice call.
Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk
To me it sounds like the device isn't automatically switching back to 3G to make the call for whatever reason.
As far as I know Optus has no announced plans to do VoLTE which means that either the phone is getting tricked into thinking it's possible, or it's broken.
For what it's worth, I've never had this issue on Vodafone but I did leave Optus as soon as I possibly could while I was with them to jump back to Voda. Far better service and quality.
Are people buying outright or on plan? If outright where from and how much?
Outright, $799 Yatango online (but they can be difficult to deal with eg selling things not in stock but marking as in stock)
