Unlocked XDAII SIM free for £572.81 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=106055&asource=

For those of us in the US here is a link to Expansys in the good old USA. They have them unlocked for $782.44. I think I will be ordering one tonite.
http://www.expansys.us/product.asp?code=106055&sbadd=106055

How do you know this is unlocked? The Expansys page doesn't say that... just that it is the phone only. So it could be for existing O2 customers that don't want to sign a new contract.

The uk site states:
"Handset Only Price: £572.81 (487.50 exc.)
With O2 Connection: £337.81 (287.50 exc.)
Note: This phone is available handset only (SIM free) and unlocked, you can use your existing SIM from Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone or O2. If you require a connection with this phone, add the phone and one of the Enliven Connections below to the shopping basket."
Whilst the US site states:
"Handset Only Price: $782.44
Initially this device will be available on contract to O2 only."

OK, so I'm still confused. I've sent them an email asking for a straight answer. It is possible to be off contact, but still locked.

I just called Expansys and cancelled my order for the O2 XDA 2. The one they are selling right now IS SIM LOCKED. Meaning you can only use it with an O2 SIM card.
And since it doesn't appear that anyone knows how to unlock them right now, I cancelled.
They did say that they hope to be able to offer a SIM Free version within a month or two.

If its a month or 2 why not just get the qtek 2020 which is cheaper and bound to be unlocked

If that's a different branding name of the XDA 2, MDA 2, HTC Himalaya Pocket PC Phone Edition...
then show me where to order one and have it delivered to the US!

http://www.expansys.us/product.asp?code=108269&asource=
There we go

Ah! Nice!
That's probably the one they were referring to as hopefully having them in stock within a month... as it says there:
Availability: Estimated 21 Days
I can't wait that long.
Eh, I'll order it anyway.
Edit: Oh wait, that one only has 64MB RAM... no wonder it's cheaper.

You can buy the UN-LOCKED version which is completely sealed from here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3057618685
PayPal is excepted as a method of payment - you can also read the feedback from people who have already purchased the unit from me.
Regards.

Sold!
Am I going to need a USA style AC adapter? I wonder if the one for the iPAQs will work.

i thought all XDA 2s have 64mb ram :| even though they say 128.
32mb is for the CPU
32mb ROM
64MB RAM
work it out peeps lol.
gaz

The device has 128MByte RAM, 32 MB flash ROM (internal to the Xscale CPU...) for the Operating System, and 32 MB on a "disk-on-chip". 14.5 MB out of these 32MB are available to the user as non-volatile '\Storage'.
...In other words 32Mb ROM + 32Mb ROM + 128Mb RAM

oh ok then lol my bad :S

well most places i've seen carry then without simlocks are small online and stores and such and i would very much doubt they could supply 16 that fast
maybe if you went to o2 or tmobile you could buy a pile and get them unlocked and without sim think they often sell them with that option but you have to pay alot! more
O2 and tmobile wont do that :x
Anymore idea??!?
Thanks in advance.
well maybe orange here they sell the xda2 under the name SPV M1000
and if you want to buy it wihtout a subscription
they cost 928.597 GBP a pop
so if you want 16 it's 14848 GBP
a bit on the pricy side if you ask me though
Not an ideal option but might be one to go down.

How to get an XDAII unlocked and usefull for Spain?
Does anybody knows where can I get a cheap unit of XDAII unlocked and usefull for Spain...I almos get P900 but I think XDAII is much better.

where can I get a SPV M1000

Just phoned to upgrade my Buisness Orange SIm and was told that as I do not have 50+ mobiles registered with Orange, I cannot get a SPV M1000!
Anyone know where I can get one from?
Ashby
well here orange sell them all over often bundled with tomtom navigate
not sure if they ship to uk though
Does anyone know if this is true? Can you only purchase a SPVM 1000 if you are using 50 or more hand sets? Also, does anyone know how much Orange is charging for the handset when you sign up with service?
Thanks fo the help in sorting this out.
DJ
Try www.ebay.co.uk if there is one available it will be on there, just be sure if buying that you can collect the goods or ascertain the sellers credentials, there have been many instances of hijacked accounts on ebay recently, the feedback looks great, but you arent dealing with the owner of the account, the scammers tend to ask for money transfer via western union.
i doubt that it's true since many big eletronic stores here sell it bundled with tomtom gps
and they give the unit price on their site along with their other SPV
http://orange.dk/privat/telefoner/orange/
of cause i dont know if they ship to other countries
Orange M1000 - more details
I am new here - my first day of posting here ever.
Here is what i have been able to find out about this phone (M1000) from Orange
This is being marketed in 3 countries, - in Denmark to Business & Residential customers, and in UK and France to business customers only. Not just any business customers, many people have posted here and on modaco forums that you have to have 50 lines for your business. This is what i found when i called orange uk, they wouldn't even talk to me till i told them i have over 50 employees (as if). One person said he was told he needed 500 employees, but this seems to be an exception.
As stated by others, this is a lunatic decision for Orange to have taken.
I have searched the internet for buying these.
This was selling, apparently briefly, on Expansys (UK online electronics) but they have sold all they had and are not expecting any more at the moment, as far as i know ( i phoned them about it). I believe it was selling for over £500
There is one Danish site which is offering this on a Denmark Orange Tariff, but I am sure that you would need to give them a Danish address to be able to buy this from Orange Denmark, - i could be wrong. According to current exchange rates, the amount they were asking for was over £400, and that was on a Danish Orange Tariff of at least £30 a month. Not much use to a UK person, unfortunately.
I will be getting a few of these models (unwanted upgrades by some friends who are in a big enough company, but don't particularly like PDA 's as phones) over the next few days, i will beposting one on ebay today or tomorrow, which i will start the bidding at £400 ish.
If anyone wants to approach me outside Ebay, and you live in the London area, contact me please.
Good luck with this, and there is a good review of this, including pictures and videos taken with it, on this URL
http://www.msmobilenews.com/mobile/?cid=454
All the best, and what a gr8 site. I intend to unlock the phones before selling, have any of you used the fantastic tool for unlocking on the Orange spv m-1000 specifically?
Cheers
Ammateur
In France the device is sold on Orange shops about 450 Euro with a contract or 730 euro without
but SPV1000 is only 32MB Ram + 32 MB Rom where XDA2 (O2 or other) are 64 Mo RAM and 64 MO Rom so be carefull read the specs
RAM on M1000
Sorry, if you check out the review link i provided above, from Brody, the founder of his website, who tested one of these and provides much pictures and information, he says the UK version had 128 total, not 64
Its a perfect phone
I recently got hold of a SPV m1000 for DKK 3.600 excl. VAT andwith a contract. I love the design and smallness of the phone but if Orange really won't offer it to ordinary people in your countries then go with another brand. I heard rumours about m1000 lacking memory compared to the other brands, but mine is as good as the O2 (128 MB) and I don't belive they design it in other ways for other countries, especially considering the tininess of Denmark.
Cheers
Johan
also since they are all Himalaya devices then starting to change the inner hardware would inc the price even more then removing the mem would dec the price it just would not be a profitsome thing for orange to do
Individuals can now get the m1000 on contract in the UK, see here.

A question about tariffs (UK)

Greetings All.
I am finally thinking of upgrading my ancient Nokia to a Magician. Taking tightfistedness as a given, as a UK resident, my question is what is the least money I need to part with to acquire a Magician? If on pay-as-you-go, price is easily seen. But I am a little confused about tariff options: I would consider a phone on a tariff to cost:
[handset price] + [no of months] * [monthly rental]
where
[no of months] = least no of months before I can get the contract cancelled
Unfortunately, I don't actually know what this last number is with the UK companies: is it 6 months? Less? More?
Any information would be greatly appreciated, including what buyers have found to be the typical "total price" as defined above.
Regards.
I have found u a sim free himalaya for sale at Amazon. I wouldn't go for the magician myself due to it only having 64mb of ram and the himalya having 128mb of ram.
http://s1.amazon.co.uk/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y06Y2078550Y1436518/202-4701076-6303825
Anyway check out the link I have given you.
s1nn0n
Thanks for the link. Is the ~£370 mark the standard, therefore for the Jam? If so, do the tariff equivalents also level about £370 after minimum contract?
And since I don't actually know this despite having lived here all my life, what _is_ the minimum contract with the various phone firms (T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone, etc.)?
ive had the xda 2 and i have recently got rid of it and got the imate jam
its alot better signal wise/ battery life wise/ size wise/ faster/ better cam
id choose it anyday over the xda2 as its just too heavy and big compared to the jam
i brought mine sim free from expansys for £407 near enough
simple to set up on o2 payg online
Look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15279
Contracts are usually 12 months. I have seen some 18 month contracts too.
the Jam's camera is basically the same as the xda II's anyway, I don't know why the Jams is so poor its suppoed to be 1.3MP there is so much noise in the pics they look worse than the XDA 2's.
As for the signal, the new 1.18 radio upgrade not only increases the signal of the XDA II so it's much better than before it also has increased the battery life by a considerable amount i've noticed.
Personally, i'd go for the XDA 2 any day over the JAM, I can't stand that they have halved the amount of RAM in the JAM compared to the XDA II. Size isn't everything!
id stay clear from the contracts and go onto o2 online pay as you go. 300 free texts, 1mb free gprs, works out at giving u 40mins of calls compared to contract and all for £10 / month.
sims are only like £5
So everyone who buys a phone from, say, O2 or T-Mobile absolutely _has_ to pay the 12 month contract? There is no option to, say, cancel after a minimum time and still keep the handset? Excuse my n00bness on this issue...
u dont even have to buy a contract with this one
http://s1.amazon.co.uk/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y06Y2078550Y1436518/202-4701076-6303825
they are sim free. NO CONRACT! u can change phone and switch networks whenver u want.
just simply stick in an o2 online sim card for £5.
1.18 rom on the xda2 didnt do much for me still couldnt get signal at work
now i got my jam i got 1 bar all the time
camera quality is crap i the dark but with the new patch its improved daylight photos alot they look very clear now
and no the 64mb ram doesnt make any difference when you have a 1gb ultra SD card i use that for storage
128mb would be nice but its no problem at the moment
also you dont look like a fool with it to your ear no more lol
gaz
Agreed, s1nn0n. The only reason a contract idea is being entertained at all is the possiblity of getting a better overall deal on the Magician handset.

you have to usually have them for 12 months or sometimes 24months but you can pay the contract off upfront (pay the monthly charges all in one go)
yeah maybe.
but they are still expensive on contracts.
also the IR on the jam works just like an ipaq unlike the xda2 which doesnt do anyhting at all lol
look at the below link, id just put that in a sim free phone. works out much cheaper and a contract wont give u anywhere near the value.
THE SIM IS FREE NOW!!! lol
http://shop.o2.co.uk/cgi-bin/o2uk/j...Details.jsp?prodID=consumer:O2:TALKALOT:GROUP
urs must a been dodgy thn.
mine works fine.
Thanks. In that case I shall factor [12 * monthly cost] into the price. Right. In that case I shall now scour the other threads for where good deals on the Magician are available. Thanks for the XDAII suggestion s1nn0n, but I think until the XDAII evolves further, the Jam is for me.
I bought from www.mobilejoker.de with a 1GB SD Card (65 Euros), 40 Eueos delivery and 15 Euros Cash on Delivery charge and it came to £380.
You'll get the MDA alone for less from them or Ebay's German sellers.
seriously the imate JAM is pants.
the xda II also has MP10 on it now and wm 2003 se
there really isn't much difference.
JAM is smaller but xda 2 has more memory.
That doesn't sound too bad, 27. But what on earth is this 15€ C.O.D charge?
I agree with s1nn0n in that the Jam has less memory/functions/etc.. I have computers to do my work. The phone/pda is just for simple carry-around utility.

wanted in UK !!! imate JASJAR/Qtek 9000/O2 XDA EXEC

I am looking for a black color imate JASJAR/Qtek 9000/O2 XDA EXEC.
Should be unlocked and the maximum I can pay is £350. Do let me know if someone has it. I dont mind buying the slightly used ones as well.
cheers
You can buy a Exec for £360 online from www.o2.co.uk under the 12 month £19 tariff whcih you can reduce to £16 or data 5 at £9.40 after 6 months. Price of the handset is £150.
thanks for the quick response.
is it mentioned in the terms and condition that we can downgrade our package after 6 months?
is data 5 available as a stand-alone package?
as far as I know, all o2 phones are already unlocked. please correct me if I am wrong.
cheers
None of my high end O2 phones (Nokia 9500, Treo 650 & Exec) have been locked.
You can downgrade after 6 months. Down greading to Data 5 is possible but depends on the call centre person you contact. Down grading to £16 after 6 months should not be a problem at all.
placed the order ... will take 5 working days.
some people here are compaining that the already installed software in o2 XDA EXEC occupies too much space and arent much of a help..what are your views?
hi
i contacted o2 a week ago, they said £19 tariff is lowest tariff available online, so we wont b able to downgrade to £16 or data 5 after 6 months but give their customer services a call using a cheap access no from
www.saynoto0870.com
or read this thread for other cheap options to get exec
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32105
The phone form o2 online was unlocked
Cheers
@knowme, jatt may be correct about the £19 tariff being the lowest available online. But the this only makes the total cost £18 more !
yea true...doesnt make much of a diff. and u dont have to make one off payment too  .... so who cares!!! 8)
Another happy customer
anyone here using sat. nav. on XDA EXEC? if yes, which 1?
application turned down coz of some stupid credit scoring ****

O2 X1 DOES come with 4GB Micro-SD. :)

Hiya,
I saw a few posts here and there about people who are uncertain as to whether there's any removable storage included with the X1.
I purchased an O2 X1 last week, and it came with a 4GB micro-SD. The card was already inserted into the device.
I hope this clears things up for anyone thinking about makaing a purchase on O2.
Oms.
and which country are u talking about? or is o2 germany only?
It depends. I got my X1 ON O2 but I didn't get it FROM O2, which is presumably why mine did not come with the memory card.
My X1 is retail rather than O2 branded. Not to mention if I were relying on O2 I probably would have never gotten the X1, I don't think they were even available directly when I ordered mine.
Its hardly a big deal though, microSD are pretty cheap and I am glad I got 8GB. Having a spare 4GB would have been useful but its no deal breaker. I am glad I got a retail X1 as I have no immediate plans to mess around flashing custom ROM images to it.
iv done some benchmarking of the 2,4 and 16gb cards if your interested on the Turbo X1 thread, i did not have an 8gb to test, maybe you would like to fill in some gaps and post some results for us. If its as fast as the 4gb, I will get one, but if its got the same speed as the 16gb card, then I will stick with that.
Good point - My bad.
My device was purchased from an O2 store, in the UK. It was therefore a 'branded' silver X1.
I had the option to 'upgrade' my handset at various retailers, however I found the best deals to be at the official O2 stores/telesales depts.
I almost upgraded to a black X1 at the carphone warehouse: BUT although the £45 tariff appeared to be identical, it didn't include unlimited web bolt-on that I would have got if I purchased direct from O2.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Oms.

Indeed. Got mine at a random electronics chain in Italy, unbranded. Came with a 2gb card. Although 16gig cards aren't all that pricey nowadays if you look in the right place.
