Where can I get an SIM free XDA2? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I want an XDA2!!
Sooner than later. Will settle for an imate or Qtec2020
Anyone got any ideas?

I would personally buy an Imate.
I bought mine from www.compume.com
or Arne is a great guy and has them in stock www.ppcw.net

I should of explained more.
I need 16 before Friday
Then another 500 sooner than later..
(UK based is also pref.)

wow
lol
well most places i've seen carry then without simlocks are small online and stores and such and i would very much doubt they could supply 16 that fast
maybe if you went to o2 or tmobile you could buy a pile and get them unlocked and without sim think they often sell them with that option but you have to pay alot! more

O2 and tmobile wont do that :x
Anymore idea??!?
Thanks in advance.

well maybe orange here they sell the xda2 under the name SPV M1000
and if you want to buy it wihtout a subscription
they cost 928.597 GBP a pop
so if you want 16 it's 14848 GBP
a bit on the pricy side if you ask me though

Not an ideal option but might be one to go down.

not sure if orange uk ofer them yet though cant see it on their site

Contacted Dangaard Belgium.
There seems to be a production problem for the moment with the 2020.
No units available (high quantities) until half february.
If you like, I can inform for T-Mobile MDA II (same device), but they will have a German manual (English ROM, simlock free).

Where to buy an XDA2 Sim Free in the UK.......anyone know

Hello all
Basically I am having to put an insurance claim in for my old XDA and the insurance company need me to get quotes for a replacement (which will be the XDA2). However, having searched many places in the UK everywhere can only give me prices for contract XDA2's.
Does anybody know of shops or retail outlets that will sell the XDA2 sim free??? O2 themselves won't, Carphone Warehouse etc won't so apart from Ebay (which I do not know if the insurance company would be happy with) I am a bit stuck.
Any one offer any advice??
With thanks
Ian J
Hi,
The only place I know about is http://www.expansys.co.uk . The price is expensive though as its sim free, but if your not paying. Who cares
Rgds,
Rob.
Top man Rob
No probs dude.
Rob. 8)
I'm buying my xda2 tomorrow sim free for £300 from my local o2 shop as they have a special offer on at the moment
Moonmonkey, can you give more details about this offer, they are selling you an xda2 without a contract at £300? I didnt think O2 sold phones unless they hooked you to a contract.
It doesn't matter if you get one locked to O2 as within this web site is the software to unlock it. It will have the O" logo and settings in it but that doesn't matter as you can change the ROM as well. I've lost the link within the site for it but it's free and works. just follow the easy instructions.
Adam
I'm buying mine sim free as its a replacement phone to my xda1 and I don't want another contract..Erm well normally they sell it sim free for something stupid like £400-450 and with contract for £350...they reduced the price to £300 earlier this year then down to £200something with contract so the price for simfree naturally went down aswell...I'll fill you in when I get bck from the shop hopefully later today
Good luck Moonmonkey, regardless of price if you can find any o2 shops that have the xda II in stock i'll be impressed.
If only o2 spent a small part of there advertising budget keepng there distribution channels properly stocked!
Brand new xda2 on ebay, £400 buy now
here is the link, make sure you can collect, it looks genuine to me but be aware of scammers, do not part with cash until sure, the guy wants immediate payment via paypal.

When is o2 uk going to release the XDA mini?!

I have been patiently waiting for months now for this superb phone to come to o2 uk. I am already over due an upgrade but have been waiting untill the mini is available. But the wait is starting to annoy me and i am thinkin of jus leaving and going to t-mobile and picking up an MDA Compact. Anyone got any idea when the mini is coming to the uk? i have called o2 and they are as much help as a kick in the balls.
thaks,
Tom
Orange is releasing thier SPV M500 which is essentially a Jam, but it's also rumored it has 128mb RAM, may it's worth holding out a little bit longer for that
very interesting - if it does have 128mb of ram then it is definately worth waiting a bit for - but hopefully not too long! (i am a very impatient person!)
SPV M500
The SPV M500 is already available - I have one now, but alas it does not have 128mb Ram !
hmm if that's the case then i would still rather wait for the o2 XDA mini as i can probably get it cheaper as an upgrade an d i don't have the hastle of moving contracts etc. So any one got any idea when it is likely to be coming out?

I spoke to O2 UK about this a few days ago and the guy on the phone said not to hold my breath waiting for it as they may not do it here in the UK!
I was with O2 and in the same position a few months back - eventually I went with an Orange contract and a Qtek S100 (2 year warranty) - the interesting part is that orange will match O2's '200' contract, so essentially you end up with the same deal as O2 with the benefits of Orange (241 cinema tickets are great) and a extra years warranty! You don't _need_ 128mb, the bigstorage conversion takes care of that! Compared to the XDA2 it's incredible - just as fast, the SIZE OF A PHONE (AT LAST) and battery life is far, far better (i no longer need to charge EVERY day).
Do it...
I bought mine from:
http://www.a1comms.co.uk/store/merchant-4-34-305-Phones.ihtml
..but do shop around. Sell you old device on ebay - i sold mine for 350ukp with a gps unit!
I see they're doing an O2 promotion right now - so you could stick with O2 and save some cash!
e.g.
"O2 200 with 50 messages + Promotion (12mths) £30 per month, phone cost £29.99"
Or do what i do.It takes forever for the companys here in the uk to get the decent phone,if ever so when your upgrae is due,get the best phone possible, sell it on e-bay then buy whatever phone sim free ie i mate jam  that way you don't have to spend time removing all orange,o2 etc's crap off it.You can even sell the phone you got now too to raise more.Works every time for me!

To not install the 'crap' just reset the device after windows setup, that way the extended rom isn't installed and you can do it by hand. I did the math and it would of cost me more to buy, sell and then buy again - remember you can drop your contract rate post-six months in which brings the cost down again. Besides, the problem is, that O2 do not offer the magician as an upgrade
right cheers for the replies guys - very interesting, i am shocked however that o2 is probably not going to realease this phone! big mistake in my opinion! looks like i had better give up waiting then and go do some searchin around and some maths to find the best deal i can!
thanks again,
Tom
i got my s100 on o2 100 for £39.99 and £25 a month contract,

great device (obviously not branded as o2 but its still the same)

Wait O2 Exec or buy Universal from expansys.com

I live in Hong Kong. From my estimate, the O2 will sell in Hong Kong in December 2005. I want to get the Universal to be first in Hong Kong. Do I buy the Universal from expansys.com or wait the offical selling in Hong Kong?
If you want to be the first you don't have much choice but to get it from somewhere else other than O2!
I'm in the same boat as you are... No warranty and ugly looking Jasjar But on the other hand, the wait is killing me too....
XDA EXEC
Hi in answer to your question, i would only consider the O2 XDA EXEC,i have seen both devices, the XDA EXEC looks way better than the Imate Jasjar.
In addition the XDA EXEC will be tested more...O2 have better support + the O2 active service installed in the phone really inhances the device.
At the end of the day i Know its hard to wait...but i promise you will not be dissapointed this device really sets new standards.
O2 vs JasJar
Disagree with you on some points, firstly, o2 Active is a complete waste of time, been on 02 3years since xda 1 and always dumped it. For Guarantee, they're both about the same, 1 year, so no benefits there. I have also owned an Imate and their customer support was fine, no worse or better then o2. Rom Upgrades are much faster at imate, less bureauracy, and that is a big plus. And if you want to, you can always put an o2 rom later.
Jasjar is a terrible name, and will be more expensive than o2, always. They cannot subsidize like o2 can, not a big difference, so waitin 3-6 weeks you'll get it cheaper for sure.

I bet I can guess who you work for , but I must say the exec is much easier on the eyes.
Not sure
I think they really are 100% the same, unless you really are a tosser and care about device color...
Warranty 1 year
Rom: within a month, you'll put whatever you want in, no big deal active
o2 Active, Useless (Unless someone wants to convince me otherwise)
Price: 100% o2 will be cheaper, it always is. I will always buy these under contract, they are cheaper + you get minutes which I can throw away.
Buying O2
Buying O2 guarantees you a few things:
1) O2 active will be available, and if installed (which at least is optional on the exec without needing silly corporate codes) it will make your device crash much more than devices that dont have it. I have no confidence that O2 will sort out the O2 active issues that exist on the XDA IIs
2) You will wait *eons* for firmware updates. O2 are still shipping devices with BT build 3500, rom 1.31.00, radio: 1.06. They are now about 6 versions behind and there is no news of whether there will *ever* be an official update to the latest and greatest. For the record, BT3900, rom 1.41, and radio 1.12 are the latest.
3) You will get a cheaper device than if you bought it elsewhere.
So.... if you buy O2 then be prepaired to hack around with it, cook your own roms, and rely on timely updates from *other* vendors (which will need to be hacked for the O2 XDA) to fix the bugs on your exec.
O2 do not aknowledge or fix bugs on their devices period.
Nigel
I agree 100%
Exec will be considerably cheaper, but you'll get screwed on support. Even more true for T-Mobile, they are the most agressive guys, u wiull save a lot if you are patient.
For example I bought 13 T-mobile MDA's for 235GBP (purchase price + contract), and flipped on ebay for 320GBP. Now I have cancelled my contract and am getting 446GBP back, paying for JasJar....
So, buying through an agressive operator is always cheaper because they factor in that you will be spending more then you're contract....guess I didn't
Getting it from O2 doesn't offer much advantages; All O2 settings can be obtained from their site or the net; O2 active is useless, I always get rid of it in all my O2 pocket pcs; waste of memory. I bought the jamjar on an o2 contract costing 320GBP, paying 25GBP per month for 100min and 100text which works out to 620GBP. I don't think waiting for the exec itself will give a more significant discount. 320 quid for the device sounds fair enough considering it costs over 600GBP sim free at the moment; some shops sell it at 700GBP!
Did the same
Paid 660 GBP for 250 minutes on o2 and the phone for one year. Not bad? (I already have 500 minutes from o2 for 15GBP per month, but I figured can keep the 250 minutes for guests)
It is pre-order only.
1. Expansys is on pre-order stage.
2. Expansys cannot provide the handset warranty.
3. The price is about 700GBP
I am only wait for O2 Exec.

What is the price of the O2 Exec from O2 UK for handset only(Sim free)? Who can help me to reply this post?
Thanks!!!!!!
Are you really gonna wait for the O2 XDA Exec in Hong Kong?
I have just been told that Universal will not appear in Hong Kong under O2 brand - the distributor will introduce it as Dopod 900.
Wait and see - October 2005.

Making him care about the colour on a device that costs £600+gbp makes him a tosser?Would you like a **** brown with pink spots coloured ferrari?
Personally I would wait for the Exec.
I like the O2 colors better than the grey MDA ones - this is just and aesthetic issue. Functional-wise I think you should wait because there are problems with apps that are not compatible yet with WM5, therefore you might not be able to use all the apps which you have purchased (or downloaded as freeware) to run on your device,so your gaming/productivity/communication/entertainment might be impaired
1. Are you sure the O2 Exec will not release in HK?
2. After to read some posts, I want to wait O2 Exec released in Hong Kong rather than to buy imate/MDA Pro from overseas/Internet(expansys or www.pocketpc.com.hk).

There's one problem with the O2 exec, at least in the UK - O2! They're rubbish in every sense. I used to be a customer of theirs and I had to phone them EVERY MONTH when they double billed me. They never sorted this out despite my repeated atempts and they're repeated promises. You'll also spend 15 minutes on hold when you call them. Their customer service is completly ineefctual and, as mentioned elsewhere, bug fixes and rom updates are almost non-existant. I'm told they also have poorer 3G coverage in the UK than the likes of Voda.
I bought a JasJar (and paid prolly about £70 more than if I had bought an Exec on O2) soley becuase it meant i didn't have to use O2!
But I agree the exec looks nicer. There is also some concern over the JasJar not having a keybaord backlight - I'll be able to confirm or deny in a couple of days when my order arrives.

T-Mobile MDA Pro SimLock

Hi, some please help,
i have a MDA Pro but it's Simlocked?
what can i do for take it out?
Thank's for the help...
Sory if something is wrong, my english is no so well ...
if you need a programms or games for your PDA, i can help...
It depends on where/how you got your MDA Pro. T Mobile UK WILL unlock in-contract handsets for a fee (£15 or £20, seems a little random), but only for the contract-holder and only if the handset came with that contract.
I've just helped a chap outside the UK get an MDA Vario as I was out of contract and needed a web'n'walk type tariff. The same day that I signed the contract and collected the handset, T Mobile agreed to send me the unlock code. They said it should take two to four weeks to arrive.
HTH
I have it from Germany, one people bay it for me in the shop, but it have SimLock, and i have no idea what i can make with it...
imeicheck offers unlock for the Vario..
not for the mdapro yet .. but can't be far off hehehe
Only thing is, to do it a bodged way from imei check costs £20...
To get a proper code from T-Mobile costs £15...

Well, I don't know where you get that, but in Holland T-Mobile charges 120 Euro's to unlock it.
yup
they charge 15 pounds in the uk if you can prove that the vario or mdapro is bought together with your contract, and it takes 28 days to get the code
Most people buy these phones without contract or 2ndhand, that means they have to find an alternative way to unlock the phone. then 20pounds is cheap.
and in holland they are totally and untterly looney... they dare to ask 100euros +
So as soon imeicheck has a 'bodged' way to unlock my mda pro i will gladly pay 20 pounds to do so.
It took a total of 3 days for me to get my unlock code from T-Mobile. They were more than helpful about it, and they even sent it me on paper the day after!
SIMlock
Well, that SIM lock it seems to bother quite some people, including me. My suggestion is do not buy locked MDA Pro, Only unlocked. the cheapest ones with no contracts and unlocked are PDAhuis.nl for 709 euro the same price you pay for a locked in e-bay or other auction sites I you include transport unlocking calling faxing and all that.
From what I looked arround is that the simlock depend on IMEI (wich can be manipulated then with any working unlock code can be unlock) has anyone tried something like that?

lol
hej mate,
ever ordered something from pdahuis.nl? LOL
being dutch myself i heard they have waitingtimes which are increddible.. if you get it at all LOL
cheapest in holland is smartphonestunts.nl.. and that is 750 euros for a tmobile locked one  but they deliver!!

Sure, rumors are rumors so you heard. But did you buy something from them? 11 days and saving 200euros it is somethiing to consider and it is unlocked.
My experiance with T-Mobile Austria is 35 days and still counting to receive the unlock code and not for free to pay 104 euros plus post expences what you say about it?

If you commit yourself to a either a 12 month or 18 month contract of £35 or above.
Then the handset is totally FREE.

Ebay...
Hey there,
Your looking at between £280-350 on ebay. The price will drop even more when ebay becomes flooded with these devices which will happen eventually as more and more people will be offered these devices for their upgrades!
Most people who are not use to these PPC phones just get them as their upgrade and sell them on ebay.
If your looking to buy the original HTC P3600 then your looking at around £400.
Hope this helps.
