XDA-developers get XDA II ! - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

We got one! O2 sent us one of their demo models to test with. We figured they would have asked others if they were only interested in a superficial look, so we voided the warranty almost immediately. Here's our preliminary findings:

ooooo now that I do like the sounds of 8)
And here was me thinking O2 had no sense whatsoever... maybe I like this company after all
wtg O2 !!!
128mb eh? I think I know what I want from Santa LOL
wtg also to the developers... you have an official unofficial handset from O2 and officially they must have unofficially been reading your works
How unofficially official
EDIT: I just had a thought... sorry to be the first to ***** but the SD slot at the top must make it more obvious? People might have the urge to fire it out the top (XDA has some firing range if done properly) or even worse....increase the chance of it getting pinched

nice pics...
Thank you...

Could you give some details on the connector?
Can I use my XDA cables and carkit?
As always: impressive stuff

About connections and accessories:
1- does it fit in the leathercase of the XDA I
2- does it fit in the craddle of the XDA I
3- does it fit with the charger of the XDA I
4- does it fit with the car charger of XDA I
5- is it the same stylus ? does the stylus of XDA I fit in the socket of XDA II ?
In other words, if we have extra accessories of the present XDA, can I use them with the new XDA II ?

Does that mean, that this part of the ROM is fully user-accessible (reading&writing)?
In that case it would be very easy to change an XDA II to an MDA II (software-wise) by simply copying the files in that arey from on to another?
Is that true?
Greetings,
Olli

You can use any cable you have, but not the old cradle: the shape of the device is slightly different. I guess whether or not you can use your carkit depends on the form-factor.
The cradle that comes with it can charge a second battery (they are removeable now), and has a 2A power supply.

Yeah, these SD-card eject springs can be weapons-grade. But still the top is the only right place to have your wavelan or gps SDIO card stick out.

Correct.
Something tells me that any XDA II follow-up to the kitchen will no longer mess with the tiny bit of space in the 32MB main ROM, but will focus on this extended ROM disk instead. The life of a tweaker will be nicer and easier on the XDA II.

The unit we got appears to be unlocked. It may well be that they finally discovered that SIMlocking is immoral.
If they do start selling SIMlocked units, we'll see what happens. We've thought of a few ways one could make it harder to unlock, and at least in theory they could make it hard enough to deter people like us.

Thanks!
So we just have to wait for many little tweaks by the o2-developers. Then we -the users- simply have to install those to the ROM disk and voila! Thanks to HTC for that great opportunity!
So: Hurry up and build some tweaks

Not such a intresting question but is the LCD the same size as the XDA as i have loads of screen protectors to fit the XDA, I know its brighter and better , but is it the same size
Thanks

one question think most of us would like to ask
can the XDA 2 use Jeff's Kitchen or Kalex's Kitchen?? would be great if its possible...love the IIWPO on it

It is 1 millimeter wider and half a millimeter higher. (And this while the entire device is narrower because the screen edges are smaller. Vierwable area is the same.

Nothing stops you from putting this ROM in the kitchen. Structure is the same, and conventional mkrom-family tools work. Hoever, the whole rationale behind the kitchen becomes thinner when you have 32 MB flash-disk and 128 MB RAM to play with.

Of course never seen before
You are big guy

oh well... beware of of low flying SD cards arf arf

A question
I have a homemade carkit, with a connector with some functions like audio, microfoon, gps input/output and power.
is the connector pin layout still the same?
thank!

I think they are connectors for external antennas, one for WCDMA and one for GSM/GPRS.

Yep, your right.
Look also at this pdf @ page 7
Also i can se the posibility for the "all connect in one move" Car Craddle.
But I cannot describe how dissapointed I am that there is no Cradle bundled with this device
well personaly i've stop'd using my cradles for my xda2 since i got my silicone case i'll ruin it in no time if i choose to take it out of it every time i want to sync / charge
of cause with the universal being the way it is dont see such a silicone case being a problem like that....

Would be good if people learned that its not possible to measure performance just based on megahertz.
Dual processing , greater battery performance . Benchmarked already to perform better than the Magician . WM2005 helps out a lot here too , it's a design thing and the developers have listened . Battery technology is not moving as fast as chipset technology so enhance the processor and the operating system to compensate. Makes sence to me .
If your not convinced, then wait , I'm sure there will be loads of reviews coming up soon.
Shallax , I'm sure you've seen this but this what the wizard will be put on Ebay for.
HTC Hermes [Pocket PC phone]
- should be 1st half of 2006
- like HTC Wizard with slide QWERTY Keyboard
- Size also about the same
- video call camera on the top right corner of the screen.
- it s 3G (UMTS)
- Wi-Fi, IR & Bluetooth
- 2.1 Mpixels Camera (Behind)
P.S can't believe you haven't had a phone for amonth  Must be like giving up smoking
Yep, definitely sounds good... but I need a phone NOW! Maybe I'll upgrade later down the road ;p
And yes, being without a phone is pretty bad - having never smoked I can't really compare ;p

Possibly - we'll see. Im not holding out too much hope for this.
*Edit* Woah, hangon: http://www.qtek.fi/qtek9100.htm - seems Qtek has revised this page "Bluetooth 2.0"!

unfortunately the club I-Mate site won't let you download the manuals/view the faq unless you have a k-jam registered. So even the folks who have access to the site, but do not have a k-jam registered can't get to the information.

About ROM flashing, and increase speed of the Universal

Hi Guys, I bought the Universal for quite some time now, and would like to do more advanced stuff with it. but I am kind of new to Rom flashing; I tried to find the threads to read, but there are just too much information on this web Forum(which is great thanks guys), and I can't seem to find the right Keyword to search, which Thread would you guys recommend me to read? or any main keyword I should search for ?
Thanks and have a very nice day guys.
J
Search the ROM threads...
Jwright's
Midget's
Helmi_c's
Pdaviet.
It's all very personal, fraid you're just gonna have to read up and find which is the best for you.
Hi,
I currently have an Blue Angel, but this will apply to you as well:
If your Universal is working fine, DON'T START FLASHING IMAGES!
The truth is that you MAY end up with a brick.
If you want to do "more advanced" things, why not look at all the Freeware applications you can use? Today, i.e., I got my fingers onto a Universal and tested it with my SD-Card which contains Dosbox and Windows 3.0.
You know what? It ROCKS!!! VGA is absolutly cool and speed is fine.
Think of all the DOS-Games you could run.
This is just one suggestion, but really: don't change a running system.
You read about it and it will seem simple. But if something goes wrong, you will regret it for sure.
Cheers,
vma

Start with the wiki - the best way to prevent yourself from bricking your Uni. You should then read the forums - the perfect way to prevent yourself suffering what others have already suffered.....

thanks for the advice vma, but the thing is, my Univeral is a bit too slow when it run what it comes with originally, so I think I will find a way to back up the ROM and give it a try...
Man I reply so late, because I was choked when drinking water, so the water was splited on to the keyboard, then like space bar and some other keys doesn't work, and to make the matter worst.... I try to dry it with a hair dryer, but I was watching TV.... and in 1 min it melted my keys ... so certain keys are now "forever stuck" so I am currently using a mini keyboard I had... will get anoter standard keyboard soon, this mini keyboard is making me very tried
I hope you are referring to a regular PC keyboard and not to the keyboard of your Universal!!!
Have you tried the Registry-hack's and the section on how to optimize your Universal for speed?
Cheers,
vma

We are currently looking for the best accessories for our T-Mo USA HD2s, also known as the 1024 Leo.
Due to the slightly increased length and width, along with the change in overall profile, the standard European accessories either fit poorly or not at all.
There will be many solutions available as time marches on, but for now I hope to post links to some of the best places to get *verified* accessories.

Well, I'm not sure yet. Haven't had time to install it, but I did read on the package it just said "HTC HD2".
I compared the (in-package) sizes and it doesn't seem too off, but it will be hard to say for sure until I get the chance to sit down and put it on.
If not, I could always return it and hope someone finds one more compatible

There are two versions, darker and lighter. But with connector and anything else it's fully compatible. Alpine always has lighter screen, this qtek i received has it too, my first hima has it too, but many himalayas have the darker one.
there is third version, with diffrent connector, but I never noticed this one.
