Free GPRS monitor? - Networking

Is there one around? In fact I wonder why pocketpc itself doesn't include one on the xda. I remember even the iPAQ GSM/GPRS sleeve software includes a very basic GPRS statistics. However there isn't one at all for the xda...

o2 UK gprs settings

Just installed the xda-developrs SE ROM
Seems to make the XDA run like a deamon, well impressed so far.
Just as everybody else though. The autoconfiguration doesn't work. So can't get the o2 wap settings up.
dns 193.113.200.200
and 193.113.200.201
np mobile.o2.co.uk
but something seems to be missing. Could somebody please supply the complete settings.
WAP...
Ehm, as far as WAP goes...
We did not include the EZWAP program in our install. So WAP is unlikely to work. WAP wasn't in Othman's Qtek ROM (it has no autoconfig settings and no WAP), and we didn't create mkrom to take input from multiple ROMs. We figured serious users would want to the new EZWAP which also does MMS (which isn't included by O2), and we never really used WAP or MMS ourselves. So I guess we never tested any WAP settings...
If you want you can have a look at the registry settings we insert for each provider in the 'provider' directory of the mkrom kit. If you think some settings are missing, you could do a registry dump (using the 'System Snapshot' we put in the ROM) before and after fixing the problem, and send us the differences. We can them insert them in next versions of the Special Edition ROM.

Hi,
Thanks for the above info. It worked a treat. However I was asked for a Username, Password and Domain login when I connected to GPRS. So for those of you who do know it, here we go:

Domain: leave this blank.
Check the box to save the password.

I am on O2 payg, using the xda, I have tried the gprs settings and it says the number isnt responding, when I use the gsm settings that are preset when doing auto config, I get charged even though I am on 300 free wap minutes, I dont think I am a stupid person but I have a feeling of having been here before when I previously had an O2 payg, any help would be appreciated. I am getting the free sms messages so I know the account is activated for the freebies. The "G" sysmbol comes on when i switch on the xda and stays there for about 10 seconds.
Hi. I'm new here so excuse me if I seem simple! I have unlocked my XDA using xdaunlock and now have same problem with GPRS dropping out after approx 10 seconds. It worked before, so has unlocking changed any settings? or has something else happened. The xda has the latest uk rom upgrade with 4.21 radio. Any help please as I dont know what to do! Thanks.
Please has anybody actually got a working setup for GPRS on O2 PAYG on the XDA, I have spent weeks on this and got nowhere. I have followed instructions to the letter from different websites and still no joy, I can connect to wap over gsm but gprs settings still elude me, anybody got a full description of settings please, and how to enter them. Thanks in advance.
Is there nobody on this forum using O2 PAYG sim and using wap over gprs? I cannot seem to find anybody with the settings, I wonder why, it seems like the holy grail just to get on line using the system that is available to me in theory? Help would be greatly appreciated.
Nobody in UK on O2 pay as you go :?: :?: :?:
Update on my problems with GPRS on O2 payg. I have tried every setting on this forum plus others, I always get error, not answering or some such, I have decided to stick to gsm connection using shortcode 951000 and exwap 2.5. if anybody can give me step by step, confirmed working settings, I would apprectiate it. This will be my last post on the subject, I am beginning to take up too much storage on the forum server with this. A resolution to the problem would be great as I can then save my connection settings to flash ram and not worry about it again.
cruisin-thru I am not on O2 so can offer limited help.
EzWAP2.5 could be yr problem.
I sometime find difficulty using WAP after a session mms'ing with EzWAP2.5 . A solf reset is then required before I can connect to WAP via gprs.
Here is my sugestion:
1.uninstall EzWAP2.5 completely
2.try to get connected to gprs or gsm WAP
3.try PIE, it works for WAP , but depending on yr
telco whether on gprs or gsm
4.if all the above is working then install EzWAP2.1
and see if it works
5.then EzWAP2.5 and see if it screw up everthing,
if not try mms.
Hope this helps, i am working blind here
OK, searched high and low and think this is the best thread to post this in.
Have just upgraded my XDA with the developers rom v1.2. Everything great for a while (3 days) Now it can not connect to gprs or gsm. I get the "There is no answer at the number dialed.
I am with O2 UK and have treble checked the settings and tried various alternatives however nothing works.
One thing I have noticed is that the autoconfig dropdown box says Austria One.....when I change that to O2 - UK and click OK to autoconfigure, it doesn't, it just comes back to Austria - One.
Phone works and SMS is fine, just GPRS/GSM
Do I need to re-flash or contact my provider....or please tell me there's a simple "fix" :lol:
Thanks
Ive got this reply through email from o2 im waiting now for password and username I will post soon as I get it
Go to Start > Settings > Connections > Connections, and then select the top modify option. Within this, there should be four connection types.... Select the GPRS WAP connection and modify the settings. You need to change anything that says o2wap to payandgo, and change the APN from WAP.o2.CO.UK to PAYANDGO.O2.CO.UK. Once you have amended these settings, tap and hold on this connection type and make it your default. You might want to rename this
Then, go into the EZwap application, and select tools and then options, and there should be a series of tabs. Select the general tab and make sure the connection in the drop down list, is the one you have just amended.

The alternative dialup number of +44 7712 927 927 is also available,
although this number may not be free when used with O2 online
Hi, make sure first that it's your GPRS WAP connection that Ezwap is using, and set it to 'auto connect' in 'Options'
under the 'connection' tab set connection type to 'gateway' and put in your networks WAP IP address (o2 IRL's is 192.168.090.074). Click on 'connectionless gateway'
Untick 'wtls' secured connection.
Click on the 'MMS' settings tab next.
Put in your networks MMS 'Message Server' or MMS homepage. (O2 IRL's is http://mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002)
All the other settings can be setup as you like.
1) Enable MMS on my account. Had to get 'pally' with a tech guy to do this as XDA is not supported; I suppose pretending I had a 7650 would have worked too.
2) Install EZWAP2.5
3) EZWAP Settings for O2UK:
General
"Connection"
- O2 WAP GPRS
- Connect automatically Y
- Rest on this tab default
Connection
"Connection Type"
- Gateway
- Address 193.113.200.195
- Port 9201
- Connectionless Gateway N
- WTLS secured connection N
- Rest on this tab default
Push
"Push"
- Enable push Y
- Connection type Address: blank
- Port 2901
- Connectionless Push gateway Y
- WTLS secured N
History/Cache & Identification - default
MMS
"MMS Settings"
-Message Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
-Sender Address Type: Phone Number
-Sender Address: My phone number
MMS Options - delivery recepit and read receipt Y
It's not 100% reliable, which I knew would be the case, but it's not too bad. Get now when the message arrives doesn't work, but I just open the MMS inbox and click the message to get it.

Hi All
I have a MDA compact T-mobile. However, Im using Vodafone Network.
Does anyone know the GPRS settings for Vodafone UK and how to edit them?
I appreciate your help.
Alan

that's it
Hi
Thanks for that. How about the MMS settings?
I have set some in. But when I go to send the MMS, it says MMS sending for ages.. and I get a BOLD G on the title bar. Also, what does this mean? does it mean I'm connected or I have the option to contect?
Thanks.

Attached Vodafone UK GPRS settings for contract. Let me know if you need payg version.
Try sending yourself an MMS first and then should all be ok - don't ask me why but I had the same problem and this suggestion worked for me.
The bold G on the title bar means that you have GPRS coverage.
Hope this helps,
OB.
Thanks for this..
I will try this and let u know!
Thanks.
This works a treat. Thanks.
To add to the 'can't send MMS' list of hints...
Additionally if you still have trouble sending MMS I found that if you delete the "\storage\Windows\MMS Log" folder and then send yourself an MMS all should be back in working order...
OB.
hi,
i need a pay and go vodafone settings. please can you upload. i cant connect to gprs.
i will be moving to India on Idea network after a months. So can anyone tell me the settings for that.
i have UK XDA II unlocked.
thanks
Here are the Vodafone PAYG settings - copy to PPC and click to install
No idea about India Network - None posted on official i-Mate wesite (www.clubimate.com) - Suggest contact them direct and ask...
OB.
spot on.. working already now... thanks
and can you also upload the settings for VIRGIN PAY n GO...
thanks
Here is Virgin - seems only to be one version as I think Virgin is all a type of PAYG...
OB.
hi.
thanks for that... virgin is working fine now... the thing is that when i installed Vodafone settings, it erased all the previous ones... now when i added virgin, vodafone has been erased...how to keep both
thanks
How to keep both!? Good question...
Only thing I can think of is to keep a copy of the cabs on your SD card (use CABINSTL so as not to delete after execute) and install as needed...

Just got my I-mate and have set up the GPRS for Vodafone UK Contract. I can successfully connect using the VF WAP Connection and VF MMS connection, but if I try the VF Internet GPRS connection, I get every time the error message 'The answering modem has disconnected'.
Anyone any idea how to fix this?
I can only load wap pages using the WAP connection and can't view any html sites. One of the main reasons I traded in my nokia 6230 was to browse html on a bigger screen.
Cheers,
Antoine

Hi - I have exactly the same issue with Jam/Vodafone UK/contract/GPRS. Has anyone out there got this combination working successfully?
TIA
Graham
Yes, I have, check out the conversation in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24848
If you can't get it to work with the details in there, give me a shout.
Cheers,
Toine
Thanks Toine. I saw the other thread after posting here.
You said you cured the problem by implementing gprs proxy settings. Can you please post exactly what settings and where you entered them?

APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk

and it works for me.

Thanks again Toine,
I've made progress - now able to browse WAP and Web sites - but still cannot get to my POP3 mailbox.
Could you check your reply? Did you mean to list "wap.vodafone.co.uk" for both connections? If so then I'm really confused... :?
Also, are both connections under "My Work Network"?
I've listed my full config below.
At present I can connect to WAP and Web using the "Vodafone WAP" connection, but if I try to get to my mailbox it says "Unable to connect: Ensure that your work modem is present and inserted correctly, and no network card is present."
The Vodafone Internet connection (using APN of "internet") still refuses to play, saying "The answering modem has disconnected."

02 PAYG internet access billing

Does anyone know how 02 would bill you for GPRS if you use a PAYG sim and use GPRS?
Im thinking of stopping my O2 contract and converting to PAYG and using the settings shown elsewhere to connect to GPRS.
Is anyone else doing this?
Thanks
Gordon
GPRS on PAYGO
Been there done that.
if you use a PAYGO sim in your xda you will not get full internet access.
I thought you could use a different proxy port ?
What about the article in Tekguru?
http://www.tekguru.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=27155#27155
Apparently it is possible.
Gordon
I have full internet access, found the details on this very forum. Unfortunately, only works for web pages, not messenger etc.
Conect through the proxy: 193.113.200.195 on port 8080 and it works a treat.
Thanks
Do you get billed for it?
If so does it just disapear off of your balance?
Gordon
Having the same probs as Kevin been told several times now can not get internet on xda with pasyg just o2 active. even followed several pasyg settings and still no joy ??
I don't know how I get billed for it, but I'm sure I do. Just looking at web pages doesn't cost too much I'd expect though.
Here's what I've done.
To connect:
~~~~~~~~
1. Set up a new work connection:
Name: Whatever you want, I normally use "O2 GPRS"
Address: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username: payandgo
Password: password
2. Go back to the connections menu, tap "set up proxy server"
Click the two checkboxes, enter the proxy server address:
193.113.195.200
Then tap on advanced. On the top row you'll se something like:
HTTP 193.113.195.200 80
Change the last column so the row looks like:
HTTP 193.113.195.200 8080
3. Go and impress your mates in the pub by showing them mobile porn.
Do you have any idea what this surfing costs ?
I know that simple WAP pages cost about 1 pence per page.
Thanks
Does anybody know the cost of pay as you go browsing ?
i use an o2 genie sim card (payg) and get 1MB of browsing free everytime i top up with £10, as for cost per MB am not certain but it may be as much as £1.35 per MB?
anyone know for sure?
R
i,m using 1 of those 300 free txt sim's and have yet to be charged for any gprs activity. use somewhere around 3-5mb p/month for the last 8-10 months.
GPRS PROBLEM HELP - CHINA MOBILE - QTEK 9100
My mobile have been bought from germany but install a English OS
ROM DATE 9/22/05
RADIO 01.01.10
ext ROM 1.1.7.105
Model Wiza200
I configured the Gprs According to the CM (china mobile) settings
Wap.monternet.com
apparently the device connect to GPRS but when I try to surf it say : THE PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND CHECK THE NAME AND TRY AGAIN;
but in fact the GPRS is connected (I can see the icon in the top)
I used the same SIM card on my OLd NOKIA and it works
I really dunno anymore how to solve it
Maybe some mistakes in the configuration....where I should add the port?
AP= CMWAP
IP 10.0.0.172 : 9201
Wap.monternet.com
Looks like WAP settings... Try to find GPRS settings, usually they are different.
Some mistakes in the previous messages.
As a reminder, you can do WAP over GSM or over GPRS as well.
And you can do web surfing or other applications like Skype for instance or other protocols like FTP over GSM or GPRS as well also.
So, to sum-up CMWAP and CMNET are two different APN in order to acces to CMCC GPRS.
CMWAP is used for WAP browsing, but it works also for web! I use it on my Alpine since many months. It seems that you're charged per minute.
CMNET is used for Skype, FTP and other stuff like that. Charged by volume.
I don't know the cost even if I use it now since more than one year :lol:
Parameters:
APN: cmwap
In "Proxy Settings", check "This network connects to the Internet"and also "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet". Then fill the field name "Proxy server" with: 10.0.0.172
Then click on "Advanced..." button
In front of HTTP, the port should be 80
In front of WAP, the port should be 9201
In front of Secured WAP, the port should be 9203
In front of Socks, the port should be 1080
APN: cmnet
Click on "Advanced..." button and go to "Servers", then select "Use specific server address" and fill it as following:
DNS: 211.136.20.203
Alt DNS: 211.136.20.203
and don't care about the homepage, you can put what you want and not only Wap.monternet.com
MMS Settings:
Gateway: 10.0.0.172
Port number: 9201
Server address: http://mmsc.monternet.com
I can warrant you that all is working perfectly with these settings all over China since my arrival here (November 2004).
By the way, if you have any information about the billing on each APN, I'm interested in!
Hope it helps!
CMWAP is 20RMB for Month!!!!!!
but by using it I can't connect to MSN...can you?
CMNET...I will try now and I will let you knoe the costs
no way to connect to CM NET....I will call the Customer support and I will let you know
Really strange that you cannot connect to CMNET with these parameters...
And I'm not sure that CMCC Customer Support can do something for you as your terminal will be "Unknown" in their list... after they're definitely lost :?
Where are you living? At Shanghai the both APN works perfectly, and on all the other provinces I've visited CMWAP is working well (I never used CMNET outside Shanghai).
As I said on the previous post, it's normal that you can't use such kind of application like MSN with CMWAP APN!
About the cost of 20RMB for connecting CMWAP you surprise me coz I only have a prepaid GSM subscription... So it should mean that if I connect one time in a month I will be charge 20RMB and if I connect during many days I will be charge the same price...
I will try to have a look to CMCC wesite with my chinese teacher next time :wink:
Sure, in many Chinese cities, the CMCC began their service of 20 RMB per month for CNWAP since 2005.
but for me, I use CMNET and CMWAP both, GPRS is specially for my MSN and mail-box. but be careful, the price of GPRS is 0.03 RMB per KB!
but in Shanghai, I don't think the CMCC will give you the price of 20 RMB per month, for as everybody knows, Shanghai is an expensive city, and your Shanghaier are richamen...
Damn the CMCC!
You can surely get the CMWAP package for 20RMB in Shanghai. And CMNET got package as well, which is pretty exp..... :evil:
OK, you can get these kind of package for CMWAP as well as for CMWEB APN.
But it's not mandatory.
Since one year, I'm only using prepaid for these 2 APN.
I'm going to check if these packages are more interesting, but I doubt...
That really depends on ur usage. You can turn on the service of gprs with choice to be charged by kb or package, no matter prepaid or contract as long as u pay the money.
I did hear that someone surfs the internet by using proxy in wap, but i havent comfirmed that by myself. If it works, that really saves a lot. :lol:
Please see my first post on this thread. It's really easy to surf on the web using CMWAP APN. You just have to configure the Proxy server as I said.
Good luck :roll:
You might want to check the connection rules:
start->settings->connections->connections ?
in the settings/GPRS Setting, try to chek if the CHAP authentication is checked.
O2 Connection Settings
I want to flash my XDA Serra but the thing i norticed was i am unable to get the O2 network settings when i enter my mobile number it asks me to contact customer services and thats plain long!
However with the O2 phone i noticed theres like a connection program that gets the settings or unless someone has one that does the same thing.
I want to flash my phone with PROven ROM
PAYG or contract? The PAYG settings are all over this sub forum like a rash
Not sure if the links from here work or not, but they might be worth a try.
UK GPRS Settings
even if they are contract settings, just edit the settings in connections to payandgo.o2.co.uk for access point and payandgo for password and they will work
yay, an O2 user responded, i couldn't help more than i did as i am on Vodafone and mine were in a nice neat tidy CAB file.
postpay settimgs
Hi,
You could use prepay but they may cap the prepay connection speed (like they did with contracts for a long time)
postpay mobile web settings
start - settings - connections - connections - the internet - create new connection
connection name (whatever)
type: cellular line (3G, GPRS)
Access point: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: o2web/faster/(blank) - doesnt make much difference it just allocates a different ip range address to the device with each username - i suggest o2web as this is the official one for devices. 'Faster' they use in data cards, mobile broadband etc.
Password: password
Domain: (Blank)
Finish
Soft reset
Sorted
