error getting unlock code - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi,
I tried the XDA unlock software.
After transfering and runing it on my XDA, I received only this message: "error getting unlock code"
Any advice would be highly appreciated...
cheers
golf

what version of roms are in your xda?
you can find this under: settings - system - device information

Thanks for your quick reply.
My ROM version is 3.12.07 ENG date 08/13/02

xdaunlock will not work with wince-3.12, you need at least wince-3.17
manupulator depends only on the radio rom. it works with 4.0? - 4.20

That was very quick, I am impressed!
My radio version is 4.06, protocol version 325S54
I found the manipulator, but this seems to require a serial cable.
My XDA only has a USB connection. Any advice of what to do?
many thanks

Hello,
I hope you can help me, I know there. I tried to use Manipulator to unlock an xda but after finding the xda on COM1 the status message just remains at 'getting data from phone' and beside SID and GID it says 'ERROR'.
Nothing shows beside the IMEI. My device info is:
ROM: 3.17.03 ENG
Date: 15/5/03
Radio version: 4.21.00
Protocol version: 32S54
Please help, Thanks
Aide

Aide,
sorry I do not know what to do.
My XDA is still locked and I am kind of lost myself.
If you hear something, please let me know.

If you use The Manipulator: Did you all tell ActiveSync on the desktop not to use the serial port?
If you use XDAunlock.exe: you know it only works on O2 3.17.03, Qtek 3.16.52 and Special Edition ROMs ?

Thanks for the reply.
I tried the xdaunlock. which does not seem to be working with my 3.12 version.
Regarding the manipulator: I thought that only works for serial cables?
In your message "manipulator" was posted in orange color, but on my PC it doesn't work as a hyperlink?
Is there a newer version available somewhere without the serial cable?
many thanks for your time and effort.
I would really appreciated it, if we could get this up and running again.
cheers

Oh, Like an idiot I went and read all posts AFTER I had posted my 'problem' . Not a problem at all 'cos xdaunlock did it with no time wasted (it's O2 3.17.03.)
Problem solved, Thanks xda-developers you guys really are the GREATEST!!! (now if they could just tell me where to get a replacement touchscreen for the other one that broke...mumbles the ungrateful, greedy wretch  )
Thanks
Aide
PS Golf why don't you list all the steps you've taken so one of the more experienced guys can spot where things went wrong? and detailed error messages.

Aide,
congratulations in getting your XDA up and running with help of the developers.
Following your advise, here is what I have done so far in my attemp to unlock my UK XDA.
My ROM version is 3.12.07 ENG date 08/13/02
My radio version is 4.06, protocol version 325S54
I have downloaded the xdaunlock software and received the "error getting unlock code" message after running the unlock program on my XDA.
I have not downloaded the manipulator because of the warning on the webpage that you need to have a serial cable before downloading.
"Do not download or install The Manipulator unless you have a serial cable already, and need to reset the call counters or change the IMEI on phones with Radio software prior to 4.20"
I do not have a serial cable.
very much looking forward to any advise to help me out of this.
all the best

It says that XDAunlock only works on ROM 3.16.52 or later, bascially all ROMs that have the Wireless Modem functionality. Backup your data and install Jeff's exe holding the XDA-developers Special Edition ROM v1.2, and you'll be happy.

Thanks for your advise.
If you don't mind before trying this, let me please verify some issues.
I would like to use my Orange Sim card, but Orange is not on the UK provider list on the webpage. Is that a problem?
Since 1.2 version canot be downloaded simply, I need to do this Mkron installation, which requires unix? How complicated is that for somebody who has not much IT skills at all? This part of the website sounds rather complicated to me?
There is no download link here. As mentioned at the beginning of this page, our Special Edition ROM is based on the 3.17.03 O2 ROM, and thus contains all sorts of software that is copyrighted and for which we probably have no permission to distribute. So what we're distributing instead is a kit called 'mkrom', preloaded with all the files needed to make your own Special Edition ROM image, provided you add an O2 ROM image for the kit to modify. To run the kit you need access to a unix machine with some software installed. Take a look at the 'mkrom' page for details.
If you're no computer wiz, and still want the Special Edition ROM, you'll have to wait for someone else to run 'mkrom', and share the output with you. 'mkrom' outputs a binary image file (with '.nb1' extension) for use with our XDA ROM Image Tool and an SD-card written from the PC, as well as as an nbf-file with the correct checksum, for inclusion into a 'Programme A' package that people can install using their cradle. If you're lucky, whoever creates the installer you use to flash the Special Edition ROM into your device will make the flash utility self-extracting and use our new 'adaptROM' tool to make sure you never have to mess with model numbers, languages and checksums
many thanks

Unlocking radio 4.20

We currently have two clues which seem to indicate there may be a problem unlocking Radio 4.20. Specifically, there may be a problem with the %UREG command.
Please note that this is as of yet unconfirmed. However, we would at this point advise anyone upgrading to 4.20 to unlock before upgrading.
It would help if we had an RSU package for Radio 4.20, so we could look at the ROM and see what happened. Was Radio 4.20 part of any of the upgrades out there?
Also: I'd like to hear any and all stories concerning the use of The Manipulator on Radio 4.20.
Hi chaps
Thanks for this post! I was getting worried it was me sat here!
Can I be of assistance in some way with my 4.20 Radio XDA - can I offload and upload you a copy of the RSU info you require???
If so, let me know what to do and I am more than willing to help.
Regards
Rog
Sorry I hadn't logged in. The above post was from me.
Rog
My XDA came with Radio version 4.20.00 and ROM version 3.16.32 ENG
I will have an SD card soon so I can send any files from my XDA to you. As long as you tell me how to do this.
I would like to unlock mine and change the IMEI code on it as well but as i am not an experienced user i am not willing to try it first until it has been confirmed that this definately works with my ROM and Radio versions.
By the way
what is a RSU package??
RSU
I have the RSU for 4.20 if you would like it.

RSU is the Radio Stack Utility.....
The "Programm" that is needed for the Phone Functions.

The same problem seems to exist once the QTEK ROM/Radio upgrades have been installed on an XDA. The XDA is working perfectly, but XDA-Manipulator isn't accessing anything...it just reports errors.
can you still use hyperterminal to access the XDA and find the unlock code?
NO, hyperterminal and dualser command doesn't work.
We await progress! - Have the developers got hold of Radio 4.20 to play with yet I wonder??
Rog
Is there anyway to take the BIOS back to an earlier version?
Not unless you can get the existing commands to work.
Bit of a chicken and egg situation here! Without dualser UREG function you cant do anything. Therefore you cant get back to an earlier version either!
Rog
I have a couple of these phones with this version (4.20) on them, tried them all with Manipulator 1.02 but all wouldnt work, im willing to "test" any new methods of unlocking them, if anyone has any ideas let me know, i'll be glad to help
We have a 4.20 RSU, and thus we have the image.
We've held off looking at 4.20 specifically, and currently some precious spare time is being spent on looking at the way the RSU upgrade process works. This would, among other things, give anyone the ability to unlock without needing a serial cable. We've come a long way, but some work is still in progress. And people have less time than they'd like to have, and stuff.
You're all due a magnificent set of new tools (coming soon!), and some further explanations and documentation regarding the inner workings of the Radio Interface Layer (RIL), and more.
Stay tuned...
Talk about whetting the appetite!
We await with eager anticipation and an offer of help if you need it.
Rog
Is there any idea of release date to support the unlocking of the 4.20 Radio

XDAunlock: Unlocking without serial cable

XDAunlock needs no serial cable
You can now use XDAunlock to remove the SIMlock from phones with the latest ROMs (Qtek or XDA-developers Special Edition ROM).
Users that install the Special Edition ROM do not need to download since XDAunlock is included and ran at cold-boot. Users of Qtek 3.16.52 ROM click here.
Using XDAunlock you can also view the SIMlock code or re-lock your phone (using command-line arguments).
[I attached the EXE for easy downloading. Works on any 3.x ROM that has wmodem.exe]
Excellent work! True brilliance
I'll be testing this real soon. All I have to do is find a unix box....or will linux do aswell?
Chiani
a windows box with http://www.cygwin.com/ unix tools will do too.
make sure you select perl and bash in the cygwin setup tool.
xda unlock
i have recently downloaded the xdaunlock.exe and transfered it to my xda but an error occured.
the error message was: "error getting unlock code"
could this happen because i have the german version or where can i find a data which is working on my german xda.
Or is it enough only to change the language
It says on the page: XDAunlock only works if you upgrade to a ROM which also has the Wireless Modem feature. Presently, this is either the new O2 English ROM, the latest Qtek ROM, or our own XDA-developers ROM, of shich a new version is due out later today. Given the number of irritating issues some people are experiencing, you may want to wait for the new one, which will fix all these issues.
Special Edition ROM now official unlocking method
I've updated the Manipulator page to say that we no longer advise anyone to download The Manipulator unless they already have a serial cable and need to reset call counters or change IMEI on pre 4.20 phones.
Installing the Special Edition ROM is the preferred method for unlocking from now on. Sell your XDA serial cable company stocks today.
Just use this excellent proggy with my XDA which was locked to O2 took 2 seconds to unlock with just this proggy and its now unlocked to all networks, GREAT JOB Guys thx

Great, I love detailed error reports.
Avri: I think the moderator of your forum has already contacted us. If you're the same person, you probably have 'no signal', right?
If so: did you mess with the 'GSM band' tool under 'Programs'? If you did, just set it 900/1800, possibly soft-reset your phone afterwards (stick the stylus in the big hole on the bottom left) and you should be fine. Let us know if that is not it, or if you're a different person altogether. But please, please, please, do not come back saying:
It still doesn't work. Please help.

Instead: provide detailed descriptions of why and how precisely "it doesn't work".

but I still get NO SIGNAL.
I wroth before that I have T-Mobile PW10B1 model.
Please help this phone cost in Israel about $1,700

If the provider you're trying to connect to is on 1800, chances are things will not work. Major consensus narrative at this time is that at least the filtering for this phone is not set to a wide-enough range to make it a true tri-band phone, even if it might work in some sporadic cases.

simple onlocking process
WARNING THICKO ALERT!!. I am referring to myself here I have looked at the various postings on unlocking but cant seem to get my head round what is required to unlock my XDA. I have just received a second hand O2 locked 32MB XDA it came with two USB cradles and all the other stuff. Can anyone please tell me is there a simple way to have it unlocked without sending it off. There are many references to the unlocking progam on here but no direct link to it. I would like to be sure that the unlocking process is simple and relativley risk free can anyone offer any help maybe an already created ROM or whatever it is that is required? If the file is largish please send it to [email protected] this is my broadband email address and can accept large files.
Cheers Sean
*nix (or cygwin) is needed when you want to build your own rom, using our mkrom tools.
you can find xdaunlock here. you will need a relatively new rom ( which includes wmodem.exe ) to run it. either 3.17 qtek, or our own Special edition ROM
Re: Thicko Alert: I managed to download the unlocling software and hey presto its unlocked.!!So yes the thicko was apt all I had to do was read the item fully.
Now for another question. Can anyone suggest a suitable method of connecting to the net using my unlocked xda. I dont need to worry about phone costs (long story) so as long as the dial up is a UK one with no out of country prefixes I should be able to get online free?
Unlocking Siemens SX56 ATT US
I have an At&t siemens sx56 that Im trying to get to work on vodaphone in Germany. I've tried the XDA Unlock program, but it won't work because I don't have the latest ROM. I'm not sure what to do from here, especially because I use it with a mac and the PocketMac software, so I can't use a serial cable. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Yes: simply back up everything and install the XDA-developers Special Edition ROM. It will unlock your device and make it cooler.

XDA-developers-SER-v11.exe for dummys like me, cant install

This is so embarrassing….
I follow the discussions here that you guys have about the XDA and have little or no idea about what you are talking about other than Jeff's XDA-developers-SER-v11.exe, would be cool to upgrade my XDA prototype with… except that when I try - both with my USB and serial cable - I get this message:
Error 011: Execute remote communication program error
Cannot execute remote communication program.
Please make sure that the USB/Serial cable is properly connected.
Having spent 15 quid in an 02 shop for the serial cable - even though it out to be able to install through the USB, I feel like a right twit.
My XDA has the following data:
ROM version: 2.66.00 ENG
ROM date: 02/21/02
Radio version: 3.19
Protocol version: 32S54
I would appreciate any ideas and of course understand if this post is too ridiculous to be answered…
Best regards
Carl

WOW! That is an early prototype indeed. We want that ROM! (You must have been in the loop way, way early!)
My guess would be that the ROM is so old that the version of ActiveSync included inside doesn't support the type of program manipulation the upgrade program needs.
What you need is an SD-card reader-writer for your PC, and Windows NT/2000 or XP installed. Then get our XDArit program and use it to write the ROM image contained in Jeff's exe-file to the SD-card, and use the bootloader to get the ROM into the device.
But as said above, first use that same bootloader to get the old ROM out of there onto an SD-card and then onto your disk. Info on how to do all this is on the XDArit page above.
I would appreciate any ideas and of course understand if this post is too ridiculous to be answered…

You have no idea about the level of ridiculousness present in some of the posts here. Asking questions is good, assuming you're dumb or your question is ridiculous or embarassing is silly.

unlocking

G`day everyone,
I have just brought a new SX56 siemens from the US. I am in Aus and would like to use my existing provider. My problem is the SID is locked and I would love to get some help here.
I have tried XDAunlock.exe and received an error (error getting unlocked code). Any help would be great.
Rom Version : A.20.17 ENG
Rom Date : 05/15/03
Radio Version : A.20.10
Protocol Ver : 324e4
Model Number: PW10B1
I think you should be able to install developers special edition rom, this will unlock it automatically. Before doing so, back up your existing rom using sd card method, then you can go back to where you started but with an unlocked machine.

Thank you for replying so quick mate.
But using the developers special edition rom is something im afraid to get into if something goes wrong.
Also im not familar with compiling etc.
Then again I havent given special edition rom a chance.
Just not confident playing around with the rom.
Ps. Reading about XDAunlock.exe seems alot easier to manage and is my rom version to new to run with XDAunlock.exe?
thanks again cruisin-thru.
The XDA Manipulator will unlock a phone, if you can have a serial cable (Easily purchased - approx. $10).

Yes I know that the XDA Manipulator will unlock the phone but i read that, this can be of high risk. Also i havent read that anyone has the same rom version and used XDA Manipuilator.
You dont need to know a thing about compiling, just download the exe file, after doing sd backup. Run it on your pc and it will do its thing.

unlocking problem...

hi all, i have a little problem unlocking my XDA
first of all my PocketPC is a TSM400 and it is mysteriously identic to XDA. I think is the same model with a different name cause distributor company (telefonica Spain). I have a 3.18.10 ESP ROM version (08/15/03) and when i try to unlock it i got a "error getting unlock code"
any idea?
should i update the rom?
will i have any incompatibility problem?
thanks!
If indeed it is the same pda I would suggest installing xda developers special edition rom 1.2 AFTER you have backed up your existing rom using sd method. This should unlock your pda automatically on first boot after burning the new rom.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news here, but that statement keeps getting thrown around yet its a false statement.
Its not the ROM that is stopping the Unlock, its the Radio stack. as i found out yesterday.
After i had upgraded to the special edition, it still returned a "Error getting Code" message, it was only when i upgraded my Radio stack to 6.24 was i able to unlock the phone.
But then, because i now had the wrong radio stack, i failed to get a signal until i had downgraded back to 4.21, Only then was i able to place a call and get SMS through.
Indeed the Phone does look exactly like a XDA,
So first thing for people with a tsm 400 to do is find out what hardware versions they are on.
Could i ask that both peachy_212 and elessar pick there PDA up and do this
Click Start on the today screen
Navigate to settings at the bottom of the drop down list
tap the SYSTEMS tab along the bottom row of tabs
And then device information
You should have
ROM version
ROM date
Radio version
Protocol version
Then click the next tab over (Hardware)
If it is a XDA it should say something along these lines
CPU: ARM SA1110
Speed: 206mhz
RAM: 64mb
FLashsize: 32MB
Flashchip type: 28f128
Databus: 32 bits
LCD :240x320 TFT
Colors: 4096
ALso what would help is the next tab over from HARDWARE, (Identity)
Give the model number and platform from this section, DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR IMEI NUMBER ONLINE,
Could you reply with what version numbers and hardware info to confirm that it is indeed a XDA
Then maybe we can help
