If you could, it would be a setting in a conf file someplace. Or if even possible, do some hardware hacking and change some voltages to get those LEDs a little brighter. Of course actually doing that is more difficult than speculating.

New Mi VR Headset - Does Not Support Mi Max

The new Mi VR headset which was announced 2 days ago only supports the Mi Note 2 and the Mi 5, not the Mi Max!
I was really disappointed by this. I have been struggling to find a VR headset for the 6.44" Mi Max. Most either don't fit the phone at all or crop the visible area to around 5" making the extra large screen useless. Why on earth would Xiaomi launch a new headset for current models and not include this one? Even their previous really basic VR Play headset supported it!

I just opened a thread which might be interesting and give us a 'workaround' for non officially supported devices...

[Discussion] Mi Max 1 low max brightness problem

It turns out displays on Mi Max 1 & 2 are the same model, so switching the display from Mi Max 2 won't resolve low max brightness problem. As @Zola III pointed out, this issue is resolved in new beta firmware. Hopefully, release version of this updated firmware will be available soon.
Original post:
Code:
Major problem of Mi Max 1 is low display brightness, it is simply not enough on a bright sunny day. Mi Max 2 improves on this - at the price of lower CPU performance, hence the idea to try Mi Max 2 display on Mi Max 1.
The connectors look the same. Dimensions are the same. Camera, light sensor, speaker grille locations are the same; capacitive buttons location differ very slightly, the difference is negligible and they should work fine regardless.
I'd try it myself, especially given very cheap display-digitizer assembly prices - but Mi Max is my only phone at the moment and I rely on it for work heavily, so that's not an option for me until/if it requires repairs.
[B]So, is there by chance a Mi Max 1 user on this forum with broken glass or faulty display adventurous enough to try using Mi Max 2 counterpart?[/B]
I think it's the same display a Tianma display an the most of Max 1, 2 unit's. But you will have to check & particularly to your own one. About max peak brightness on Mi Max well let's say it whose just set as that on up to date firmware releases but yesterday I got an random MiUI 9 Global (still beta) OTA update & on it it's nearly doubled going up to almost 700 nits but you lose contrast heavily when you cross about 350 (73% on old firmwares & about 50% on this one) so it's only good for direct sunlight & battery burning.
Best regards.
@Zola III thank you very much!
Could anyone please kindly confirm the displays are the same between Mi Max 1&2, and the problem lies only in firmware? I figured out how to try new display without disassembling most of the phone, and was about to order. \=
@NCi5 well without firmware side y
You won't get it to be any brighter.
As I told you the display is the same (in most units as I know in some Mi Max ones Xiaomi used & other one which whose worse as there whose a shortage of particular this one)...

@Zola III thank you very much! Hopefully this adjustment will be included in non-beta firmware as well.

Mi A1 screen is the same as Mi 5X?

I'm considering the A1 however judging from videos i've seen on Youtube, the screen is washed out compared with the Mi5X and others Xiaomi phones.
Is that really the case here, and does it have an option to calibrate colors in the settings section. Thanks in advance
I'll have both in my hands this weekend, and maybe I can return with comparison.
In advance, I can say that Redmi 4A and Redmi 4 Prime both have much more light than my screen (Mi A1).
In terms of quality, colors, other stuff, I'm too newbie to comment, but brightness is surely much more, making it waaaaaay better to see stuff in daylight.

Nice, thanks for the feedback i'll wait then.
Ok, I compared both, and Mi A1 brightness is much smaller than Mi 5X.
I'm not sure If I forgot to take the picture, or if I took it and it's lost on someone's phone... Sorry, family parties, new year, I can't remember...
I would say that Mi 5X on 50% is the same as Mi A1 on 100%.

How is Mi Mix 2 in comparison to G6 ?

Hello Everybody
I am planning to jumpship to Xioami Mi Mix 2.
Are there any drawbacks in comparison to LG G6 in Mi Mix 2 apart from weird front camera location and the lack of 3.5mm input ?
I am mainly switching to Mi Mix 2 for the screen and can be in bleeding edge in terms of MiUI updates.
Please let me know your thoughts on this.
Better of asking this in the Mi Mix 2 section??...
As a G6 user I say... yeah its better in every way and you should go get a Mi Mix 2.
Thanks for your suggestion,
I'll repeat this question in Mi Mix 2 section and there you offer your valuable inputs.

Adaptive Brightness

Is anyone else having issues with adaptive brightness taking a while to adjust? I am on stock 8.0 with latest security update. When I open the phone it can take 3 seconds or so to apply before I can see the screen.
yes there is a problem, and it is even more irritating for me when in low light room i turn on the screen and it takes 3-4 sec to turn down the brightness
Yes, I have the same issue. Also, my friend has Xiaomi Mi A1 and he also has the same issue. The ambient light sensor responds slowly for some reason. My wife has Redmi Note 4X and its ambient light sensor is much better. Responds instantly when the light changes (e.g. exposing it to direct sunlight). Also, the screen is so much better on the Redmi Note 4X, I couldn't believe. I compared them side by side, and the whites are so white on Redmi Note 4X. On my Xiaomi Mi A1 the white is...yellow, wtf.

Are you sure night light isn't turned on on your phone ?
there are 2 types of screens used in Mi A1, and apparently one of them is showing yellowish colors like you described. the other one is much better and i am really satisfied with color reproduction even with the blacks (not like amoled ofc but really deep).

Of course not. It's just that the display on Redmi Note 4X has better color accuracy. Before I thought Mi A1 has identical hardware as Redmi Note 4X, buy it seems that's not the case.
By now the only thing that annoys me on my Mi A1 is this ambient light sensor being too slow. Apart from that, the phone is OK for the price.

I guess I wasn't the lucky one to get the "right" display.
Ok, after I posted this I turned up the brightness to 50% and still have adaptive switched on, it seems to have sorted it. Previously it was on 5% so maybe there is a bug there that is seeing what brightness setting level it is and adjusting that way and taking too long. Try it and see if it helps (or lower from 50%)

Mi A1 has identical hardware as Mi 5x. And you will be able to adjust the colour of the screen if you root (I'm not sure if it will make it better, because I've got the "right' display, so can't test it)

you can check which display is used in you phone by entering specific code in dialer (i cant remember the code :/), there you can see which components are used, 2 sets of different screens, memories and cameras( not 100% sure for this one) are used.

Did it and the app (Factorykit Test) hangs with a black screen on version info. I think all the other options are fine.
Does it work with the phone rooted with magisk with the stock rom+recovery?
Edit- disabling magisk and xposed solved the issue. The rear modules are OV12A10ii and OV13880ii.

Doesn't work with Xposed. Disable Xposed, reboot, do the tests and enable it again.
