Think the edge+ is going to have that weird brightness programming issue?

Remember the regular Galaxy S6 edge? How it was about 60-70 cm/knits less bright than the regular S6 at maximum manual brightness in darker environments? This would be a deal breaker for me if this is the case because I like to ratchet up my phone on full brightness and experience all the best color reproduction at the highest contrast. Anyone with the early edge+ units confirm if Samsung did away with this weird programming? Edge+ and Note 5 should be around the same manual max brightness as the regular S6 and S6 edge.

yes the s6 edge plus has the brightness bug. Checked demo units at all major carriers at the mall. Note 5 does not have the issue. Can't believe Samsung still has this problem. I will also pass on the edge plus and the note 5 does not have enough new features to make me upgrade. So I guess it is no new phone for me!

I can now also confirm that the "bug" is in place. It has to be intentional, because this is the second time it's specific to an edge variant. Whatever the case, I am going to have to settle for a Note 5. Which is disappointing, because the color selection is generic black or white. I wanted the edge just for that gold color. I am annoyed they couldn't bring the silver variant of the Note 5 to North America at least.

can one of you guys try velis auto brightness and see if that works!!!! im considering this device but i want to make sure I can also use it with out this weird brightness bug !!!

I can't answer to max brightness on manual-mode being different between devices.
But do want to let you folks know that max manual brightness will never be as bright as max auto brightness, even when using 3rd party apps such as Lux or Velis.
Just in case ya'll didn't already know.
I know, I've tried.
There are hacks (search my threads for the script I created) to make manual brightness just as bright as auto brightness, but the hack does not work very well.

I have the tmobile variant and it has this bug , very annoying how could they screw this up twice and on the best looking screen display they have ever made

It's not that it's not bright enough lol, it when max brightness dims when going into a low lighted area even with auto brightness turned off.

I'd have bought the S6 if the screen brightness could be manually adjusted from 0 to 600 nits like any normal phone. The S6 is not as bright indoors as an iphone and apparently despite all the customizations available on Android, this is still not possible.
The Note 5, however, has a bright enough screen that max brightness is as bright as an iphone. The Note 5 has a clearly superior screen to the S6. It's got to be a different panel in terms of quality. Had they made a 128 gb Note 5 I would have thought long and hard about a Note 5.
Samsung stop overthinking this. Unlock the full range of autobrightness regardless of whether we are out in the sun or not.

It's pretty obnoxious that it adjusts the brightness by itself even if it's turned off, it's unbearable if you're outdoors since it dims the screen so much on it's own:\. Is there not a fix?

Can't believe there's no official patch for this. Got a software update this morning and it did not fix it.

Color saturation & accuracy

If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the Huawei Mate 10's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.

Coming from iPhone 7+, it's inferior. Does not support wide colour gamut DCI-P3.

I have 3 phones right now. An S7 edge as my daily driver. A P10 plus, and the mate 10 pro.
The P10 has a somewhat inferior display than the other two, but it can reach very high brightness and color saturation levels (but not so accurate colors...). The mate 10 pro produces dimmer image even at max brightness, and struggles to generate a well saturated image. At least it has a kind of better color accuracy than the p10 in my opinion. Sharpness is not a problem. Overall: It is good enough.
Sadly, I can't say it has any better display, or near as good as the s7. S7 edge still a strong performer when it comes to display quality. (brightness and colors)

Perfectly happy with the brightness on my Mate 10 because i haven't come across need to use max brightness in real usage and the auto brightness works fine (with minor instances of getting auto dimmed more than required). However need to note that a when viewing the display at angle it gets dimmer.
Nothing to complain about regards to visibility under sunlight as well. In my view what matters at the end is if the user has a problem with brightness with respect to the persons real life usage rather than comparison with others phones.
In terms of color saturation, one should know even before buying the Mate 10 that the IPS display don't compare with oled on saturation. I put my Mate 10 in vivid mode and im happy with it, even when using side by side by older generation oled screen P9 plus. I also had hands on side by side with the Mate 10 pro at the store and obviously Mate 10 pro oled is more saturated but i was not in any sense been blown away by it or wanting it. Likely that the QHD display + big screen of Mate 10 has spoilt me that im feeling the Mate 10 pro display to be washed out, yellowish and less immersive. But then it would be the same case that when using the Mate 10 pro as stand alone for some time you adapt and don't find those issues a problem anymore.

One little flaw to mention. I have some clouding. At moderate to low brightness level, grey color is the worst. (screen shot was taken by another phone, so in real life it isn't that bad)
The problem is less prominent at higher brightness levels.
Anyone else have the same issue?

The lack of really vivid colors, and the somewhat dimmer display is not that big problem. You can get used to it.
The clouding is a bigger issue, but it is almost invisible on medium to high brightness levels on my unit. It looks this bad only on low/the lowest brightness levels. (I rarely use it on min setting.) Samsung phones have better displays, I am sure, but I can live with this. (usually by manually set a bit higher brightness level) But it is my opinion.

I've got the same green tint on lower brightness (30% and lower)
Did any of you guys exchange it and got a better screen with no green tint on grey screens?

No issues at all with my Mate 10 Pro. I just love it! No clouding! Colors are real lifelike. Don't like Samsungs candy displays

I got my replacement device today and it also had that clouding issue! Really pisses me off because one of my main use cases on my mobile devices is reading pocket articles in dark mode. This is where I could see the yellow clouding very clearly. The replacement also had a defective fingerprint scanner (did not work at all not even during setup).
Now I'm waiting for my third device, if that one still has clouding (even if it is slightly) then I'm going to switch to the XL2. At least it doesn't have clouding.
This is meant to be huaweis high end device, such issues are nogos for me. Even my much cheaper but beloved Moto Z Play doesn't have this issue.

I don't understand why people are looking for flaws. I understand that you don't wanna pay so much money and then have any but imo it's something that's there but that I won't notice. What I don't notice is close to non existent to me.
I had a S8+ before and had it for a week still after I bought the Huawei mate 10 pro. Since I am curious I kept testing the screen by watching the same videos on max brightness etc.
Yes the Samsung is slightly better especially red and blue (funnily I think the greens are more vibrant on the Huawei) and it gets brighter but for me it wasn't a big surprise.
The phone gets a dark black and decent grey when in normal usage on normal brightness. I don't notice my screen being washed out unless I look for it (manually turn brightness down and open chrome).
I never tumbled across this in normal usage so I don't give a f.
If you only use it phone in the dark on low brightness... Well then you should maybe consider selling it.

Im also not searching for flaws that don't affect me. But the low brightness thing does affect me in a major way as Pocket in dark mode looks totally ****ed up. Huge yellowish tint.
And I'm using pocket daily. Also this kind of clouding is not acceptable, if much cheaper devices manage to provide better displays. It's a matter of quality control which Huawei can change in an instance if they want to.
If the third device has the same issue I'm going to sell it or exchange.

just checked my mate 10 pro for this issues since im very alergic to this kind of issues...and must say that i have none of them.. I ran color display app and display is perfect in every brightnes and color..back when i had galaxy s7 i remember that it had those gray stripes(lines) when u put brightnes to low value but on high values it cant be seen anymore...so i think those clouding issues are real and device should be sent back to waranty...let me tell u something i had 4 different xperia flagships and all of them got a white dots or anomalies after one year of usage (bad display construction?) so i always claimed waranty for that....since i pay 700*eur for a top end device it has to work like one and as long it has waranty ill claim it as mutch as i can.dont be fooled by todays manufacturer cuz they dont care about us.

I contacted Huawei about this, the guy in the live chat was very helpful. He said he never heard of that problem before (I believe him) and offered me to send pictures of the screen to a support email address... Never heard from them again. Thanks

I have that issue, I just don't really care... But they told me I could get a replacement device. Having that confirmed I can wait for a year and ask for a replacement device. Fresh battery.

Hi! Is this on Mate 10 Pro? If that's the case, then I experience the same.
At minimum brightness and dark environment it is very noticeable. My problem though is on the upper part of the screen it is darker/reddish and on the lower part, it is lighter. I wonder if we can have this display changed in warranty.

Only issue I have noticed with the Mate 10 Pros is that they have a Redish timt to them specially near the top half of the screen I incrank the brightness always to Max then I don't see the Redish tint ..I have seen this on 4 different phones...I'm about done with my Mate 10 Pro us model crap updates.. Definitely not the smoothest running phone..Selling g mine now I just for to figure what to get next LOL..I'm kinda done with Hauwei for now...Plus I think the Stereo speakers sound like garbage an are not very loud..My old Mate nine wasnloud as hell.an sounded awesome...Now she is at the bottom of a Lake..lol

brightness is noticably higher on my samsung galaxy s7 edge to the Point where i was blinded at night when i moved from the mate 10 pro to the s7 edge, colors also seem better, i use a custom rom though and the colors on emui were awful Everything was so faded and washed out it's better with the new rom and a colder color temperature glowing is absolutely terrible though, i see a huge cloud of White around White Icons on black it ruins the image quality when i use a fully black ui.

Capacitive buttons backlight

As I have had other Xiaomi devices as MI 5 and MI 5s, I´ve noticed backlight buttons on MI Note 2 is pretty low, Anyway to increase it as much as on those devices listed below?

If you could, it would be a setting in a conf file someplace. Or if even possible, do some hardware hacking and change some voltages to get those LEDs a little brighter. Of course actually doing that is more difficult than speculating.

Clarity/resolution

The ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I'm really curious as to the screen quality. I realise its gonna be different from an AMOLED panel that I'm used to, but all the other specs are so appealing!!

Asus zenfone 6 , Honor 20 pro , Oneplus 7 pro camera test side by side .
OnePlus 7 vs 7 Pro / Zenfone 6 / Pixel 3a XL / Mi 9 Battery Life DRAIN Test.
Between these two videos you should get a decent idea of the display compared to other led displays .

I think the zenphone looks a shade darker than the other led display due to its ips

I can confirm that there is a noticeable difference to a AMOLED display (coming from the Lenovo P2) and a side by side comparison clearly shows a better contrast in the Lenovo. But I also have to say that I only noticed that after a couple of hours with the Asus when checking back on the Lenovo. The display of the Asus is good and also in the dark not too bright.

Off topic but damn I loved that phone, really sad when I cracked the screen.

hi, i am using zenfone 6(2019) with latest update installed. the videos on the social media (twitter, fb, instagram) plays pixelated and in poor quality.
how can i fix this?

Apparently the max brightness the phone can go is application dependent, in Chrome it's 600 nits and in photos or its 550 or something. Can we expect a mod or anything to make it even that is 600 across everything in the future?

How is the display in the real world . ALOT of folks on youtube are saying its pretty dark . I want to get it and understand its not oled but I dont want a dark display .

Yes sir, i own it. [emoji23] From left to right- P30 Pro, Zenfone 6, P20 Pro, i was outside under the tree, max brightness.
In general: for me the display is very good, just needs to be a bit more brighter.

I'm coming from a OnePlus 3 and haven't compared to other recent phones, but I'm impressed with this display. It can get bright enough, at least for my usage, and even though blacks aren't as black as an AMOLED display, they're still black and not what you see on some cheap displays. Is a <Samsung-flagship> display better? Yeah, but the price is also higher than the ZF6.
The only setting I had to change was the colour mode. The two pre-defined options are "wide color gamut" (used by default) and "standard", which is more like sRGB. This is completely personal preference, for me "standard" looks more what I'd expect to see, not super vibrant colours that almost look fake. Anyway, it can be changed so it's not really a problem.
I didn't use the "always on" feature on my OP3 in order to save battery, but I can see users that liked that feature missing it on this phone.

Is the oled panel made by Samsung? K20 owners please type *#*#6484#*#* and show the display section screenshot. Also does it have hdr support and dc dimming?

Choosing display only tests the display by showing colors, no info on manufacturer. Any programs that will tell me if it supports HDR or DC dimming? I tried googling "HDR on mobile" and it only brought info like for example a youtube video named "Why HDR is useless on a mobile"

Sorry, yes tapping the display section will take you to the color check, tap the Version Info(or something similar) which is usually at the top of the screen. Scroll down to get the ram and emmc and display version.

No useful information even when scrolled all the way down. Mainly serial/IMEI numbers.
I know earlier xiaomi phones had more info here, remember using it for my redmi note 3 pro to determine LCD panel.

I checked some of my other xiaomi phones; poco f1: only shows the same limited info as Mi 9T. Redmi note 5 PRO: Shows full info including display info (Tianma TD4310).
So it is clear that xiaomi doesn't want us to see this information anymore.

Kimovil.com says it's the same panel as the pro, but heard one youtuber saying it's not

How is the display quality? On par with the Samsung amoleds? Need quality over branding.
Where are you from and how much did you pay?

The display is great, I can't see any quality difference comparing this to my Samsung A70. The calibration is slightly different "out of the box" tho, Mi 9T has slightly cold/blueish tint whites while A70 has warm yellowish whites. The Mi 9T feels slightly oversaturated (colors are slightly too intense, but this also makes image look like they have better contrast). The A70 has a more "true to life" calibration. Both have impressive max brightness, outdoor use is no problem.
I ordered the phone the exact day it was put up for sale on aliexpress, from the seller fantacy which I've had good experience with earlier as well. And sure enough the phone arrived just over two weeks later here in Norway. Paid $374 for the 128Gb, I have seen it as low as $335 for the 128Gb or $295 for the 64Gb after coupons on aliexpress during the midsummer sale. Ordering early never gives you the best price

You got dc dimming update? And please give a small feedback about the overall build quality.. Does it feel cheap anyways? And also the in hand feel (8.8mm thicc:-\).. And any other noticeable thing about this phone you didn't like or something?
Ps. What about the standard display mode. Offers better true to life colors right?

As for DC dimming I have no idea. I know what it is, but not how to check if I have it. Not noticed any eyestrain during low brightness so far, but not sure if I am able to notice the difference. (Not all people notice the PWM flicker).
The inhand feel is good, but this is no light phone! The most perfect phone I've used lately is Mi 9 SE, 6" screen and 155 grams is perfect size.

Try AIDA.. Gsmarena says that Aida reports the display to be a sammy one.
