The back of my Black SP has always looked very plain to me so I decided to change that, for very cheap (£1) I bought some Carbon fibre foil online and applied it to the back of my SP.
Here's the end result.

I think it looks very stylish and it's very cheap and easy to do. Also if you don't like the black one there are many colours of foil to chose from.
What do you guys think?
Wow, looks good and is cheap, could you post the link?
I have always been deterred by the 'foils' and 'stickers' but that actually looks nice, was it hard to apply? Also what does the texture feel like? :fingers-crossed:
Also this thread should be in the Accessories section not General.

It wasn't very difficult to apply other than the mic, camera and the speaker holes, the texture is hard to describe, it's both rough and smooth, it's grippy when dry but becomes slippery with moisture on it, overall I really like it!

(good point on the accessories section, I forgot it exists)
Wow, wanting to do this with metalic red or blue on frame

Maybe he bought a piece of film like he said in his first and the third post?
http://www.carbonfibergear.com/direct/3m-di-noc-carbon-fiber-vinyl
That might make it easier for you.
I did this with black carbon. Had it on for about a week and took it off. It kinda reminded me of one of those coffee carabiners.
it stays on very well to my surprise thought it would have peeled on the edges by now
Hi XDA!
Tell me what you think of the dark grey bezel, rather than the stock chrome.
I think I'll rock it like this for a while... then maybe try all black.

With a custom hardware mod, I really hoped you'd replaced the cpu, gps or something like that.
But nevertheless it's quite nice!
Agreed!
Would love to see some hc mods!
Doesn't seem like I'm able to change the title to something more specific or accurate.
BBut thanks for the comments.

Well I did a bunch of research to see if I could completely remove the chrome bezel. Seemed like it was possible but separating it from the glass was tricky. I got the impression I would break the glass if I tried.
So what I ended up doing was taking apart everything I could, then masked off the rest, including the entire screen.
Then I went to town with a 150 grit sandpaper to take the chrome off. Then polished with a 300 grit.
Once it was all smooth, it had a very light grey, almost white look. The exposed, bare plastic was dry and almost looked like fibres. I went and rubbed a very small amount of oil into the plastic. The plastic soaked it right up and gave it a darker grey and glossy appearance. Voila!
So the next step might be to re-tape it all off, then hit it with some black enamel spray.
30 minutes of work

What did you use? I've taken off the coating with my nail which just scratched off.
I have no way of getting to a machine so it would have to be by hand.
I did it by hand as well, using 100, 600 and 1000 sanding paper, followed by metal paste (car chrome polish) and cloth.
Thanks. Ill try that.

1) black color peeled off, so cover was ugly
2) I really like duo-color case
3) looks more luxurious
4) why not?

Go to any material/ art craft shop and they can cut a piece off for you for cheap.
Ps this isn't meant to ruin your business. It's just to help people who can't send money.
Looks nice. Reckon you could make a few quid doing that.
Thread closed.
This type of carbon fibre is available in most craft shops.
Posting a mod is fine, selling a product is against xda rules.
Hi all,
I must say from having my z1 compact for about a week now it totally kicks a$$ over all the other phones I've had (and I've had a lot!)
The phone is fast, beautiful and feels sooo good in the hand!
I'll add my picture soon but wondering how everyone else has "pimped out" their Z1 Compact!?
In a couple of days mine will have temporary screen protector and will have the Punisher!! on the back

Well my skin finally came in the post!
And my Z1c looks and feels so cool in my hand! It protects the back without having to put a case on so it feels bulky in your pocket!
Plus I can safely place the phone down on the table without worrying about scratching the back!
Here's some snaps!
