[Q] cherry pie with maximum battery saver keeps phone always awake - Atrix 4G General

Hi,
Installed cherry pie, and I was getting a warm phone and abysmal battery life. So investigated and the exact steps I followed :
1. Install latest cherry pie as of Oct 4.
2. Immediately after (without starting the phone in between), installed stock kernel and larger APN list
3. Booted.
4. Signed in to Google account and installed terminal emulator. No paid apps so no auto installs from Android. Rebooted after this. Checked /sys/power/wake_lock. Empty most of the time.
5. Then set battery mode to maximum battery saver (instead of night-time). Rebooted. Now whenever I check /sys/power/wake_lock, I get PowerManagerService.
The inbuilt app "better battery manager" shows that PowerProfileSvc (com.motorola.batterymanager.Battery Manager) is holding on to wake lock full time. I saw this for 4 continuous hours, which drained the battery from 90% to 28%. I checked 15 times in those 4 hours, wake_lock always contained PowerManagerService.
No other apps installed, no other setting done. Any advice? I am new to Android but not to linux.
Am I pointing fingers to BatteryManager incorrectly? Any solution?
thanks very much
PS - sorry, I tried to post exact link of files I downloaded but new user so links not allowed.

Battery Battery Battery....How to get 12hrs plus!! 3 steps

I have been on these threads for about 2 weeks before I got my 2 epics. In just about every thread there is someone complaining about the horrible battery life on the epic. Well I am here to rescue you....The combo of a modified Kernel and a task, data killing app is what will extend your battery life and here is how you can get there. I am easily getting over 12hrs with moderate use (texting, 7-10phone calls, and about 1hr of gps use). On standby yesterday (2 phone calls and 20 texts) I was still at 57% after 13hrs off the charger.
The current setup I am on is:
Rooted
Boss Rom V2 with mixup's Kernel.
Ultimate Juice defender. (says 2.00x battery right now)
Spare Parts.
SetCpu. (on demand setting)
My gf has the same phone and she is running about the same battery life 12-14hrs on:
Rooted
Mixup's Kernel
Ultimate Juice.
Where to start?? Well first some might think "rooting" is hard to too "techy" for them to do and trust me it def not.
1.) My advice for completing the root is at this link...easy, easy walk through: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786879&highlight=click+root
It seriously takes 5 minutes to complete. Make sure you have USB debugging on under settings/ development (on phone)
2.) Then you should proceed to again another simple "one click" clockwork recovery found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782300
Once you have tried the runtryfirst or runtrylast. Power off the phone and hold volume down/ camera/ and power until it powers on....if is says andriod recovery repeat what is says in the thread if it says clock work you are good to go to the next step.
3.) Install a rom (if you would like) or if you dont want to change your settings, back up your contacts/ apps, then just install the Kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786988
Once you have gotten this far you can check for the kernel: Settings/about phone/build number should say Mixup Custom Kernel somewhere
Here is another guide on the rooting process:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798067
First download juice defender from the market (free), then download this: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=44E7V14C
With ultimate juice you can change everything you cant with juice but you have to have juice installed first. Here I have everything set how I want it (sleep mode, wifi distance, allowed apps, etc)
Copy/cut to memory card then open/install with Astro
Then download spare parts (if you want, tells you battery history, speeds up amination, etc)
Then download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
Copy/cut to memory card then open/install with Astro
I am currently using on demand and getting the battery life stated.
Last but not least: Go to settings/ Apps/ running services/ press on OmaDRMconfigService.drm and Stop it. Every time you reboot you have to repeat unless you go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794010&highlight=DRM
I did ALL of this to my girlfriend's epic within an hr. It might seem like a lot but when 2pm rolls around at work and you are searching for a charger you might want to consider trying this!
The one day I was on my phone most of the day (2hrs) with 1hr 30mins gps use and 100texts at 5pm I was down to 15% but still made it home!
Good luck guys and hope this helps everyone in distress about the battery life!
Sorry to flame your post, but I'm on stock rom with DRM removed and Battery tweak installed and I just plugged in my phone at 5% with 1 Day 05 Hours of "Time since unplugged".
Don't need no stinkin' Juice Defender

Extreme Battery Drain with Rooted N2E

I noticed that my rooted N2E drains all the battery in less than 24 hours. So I charged it up again 3 times. Same thing happened. Flat in 24 hours.
Restored back to stock... after 24 hours, battery only drops 2%.
After 48 hours, only drops 5%... so it should be able to run up to 40 days if the percentage is to be trusted.
So I re-rooted it :
1st 12 hours - drain 2%... looking good.
Another 12 hours... dropped to 1% and totally drained and gave the battery too low to start message on the screen.
Anyone have any idea if it is a battery stats issue that I should reset the battery stats? (not sure how to do this, I could do it with CWR on Nook Color)
Just tried rooting again...
1. Booted touchnooter 1.6.24 ...
2. At the "dots screen" after "Rooted Forever" it simply got stuck there for more than 45 minutes.
3. Rebooted again to the touchnooter 1.6.24...
4. Successfully rooted.
5. Noticed that the battery drain is getting quite high again. Unit is quite warm to the touch too.
6. I have not installed anything from Market so this should not be a problem with application conflict
7. Noticed that my serial number which was there in Step 1 is now all "0"s.
Can any one else check if their unit serial number is affected by touchnooter 1.6.24?
Anyone here see this issue?
If you have any sync services enabled, for example any accounts in Accounts and Sync, this could be preventing the unit from going to sleep. I have seen rapid battery-drain when an app or activity prevents the unit from going to sleep.
One way to get to the Accounts and Sync pref is through the GMail app, Account Settings. (Currently, mine crashes when I try to load up the Accounts and Sync pref, one of the apps I've installed doesn't correctly handle a SyncAdapter intent, and I haven't had a chance to narrow it down to which one.)
Well, right after I rooted with touchnooter 1.6.24 on nook 1.0.1 update, I've got all 0 serial number, but after reinstalling the touchnooter again, the SN came back, so did market download. Try it.
And I never had issues after rooting. And when it went bad, it took me no more than a couple of hours for rerooting, so I didn't check on battery life...
Yes, I saw the battery draining really quickly and decided to unroot the device... I knew it was beacause of all the auto-starting applications that were keeping the device awake, such as skype, k9 mail, gmail, email and others... I could only remove some and decided to unroot it until i can learn more about the whole thing...
The battery monitor was saying that most of the draining was due to 'telephone' type of activity... Not sure...
I may decide to root it more manually and install only a couple of things... A good browser, kindle app and a few other readers should be enough... Maybe an email app that does not poll the network all the time...
Thanks!
How do we stop apps from autobooting?
Download titanium backup, pro i suppose and select option Bloat app. (i think it is it)

Android OS Wakelock killing the battery!

Hey guys,
I've been having an S6 Edge+ for a couple of days already but there seems to be an issue with the ROM. I'm getting a lot of battery drain from the "Android OS" and I'm losing up to 5% - 7% per hour in standby.... I have even re-flashed the entire ROM and factory reset two times... still the same.
I've disabled Google's Location History and Google Now but this did not help...
My previous Galaxy S6 was also running the latest ROM but there were no such problems...
Has anybody else experienced such an issue and do you have any ideas?

Check if any sync is stuck in loop, sometimes this kills battery very easily. If all else fails check with some app like GSam.

Unfortunately GSam does not produce too detailed information without Root access and it only says Android System and lists all the services that are under it...
The interesting part is that after several re-flashes with the same firmware, the wakelock disappeared...
Now I get 76% to 80% deep sleep...
Go figure... Probably some stuck sync as you mentioned...

Ah great... I also had similar issue previously with Calendar sync, couple of flashes and it went. Now happily rooted
Android OS Wakelock killing the battery! ...... solved
OK, im not too savvy with settings and systems, just sharing what i have been through. I too had a major battery drain problem on my S6 Edge+ , giving me abt 8-10hrs of use after a full charge. Even during the nights with everything off and power saving enabled i would lose abt 50-60% battery over 8 hours. ..... caused by Android OS ....... it would keep the screen awake for hours even with the screen off .... ( dont know how that worked) ..... tried a factory reset but didnt help. Then rooted the phone and downloaded wakelock detector and installed it as a system app. Installed greenify and doze ..... last night lost 4% over 11hours with wifi and 4g off and power saving enabled which is a drastic improvement. Facing one little problem that images do not get downloaded (automatically or manually) in whatsapp with wifi in use. Will use the cell for a few days and post again abt how the battery is holding up and if there is any other performance issues.
If you want to save battery, try this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.packagedisabler
It show all RAM usage of each app, you can disable any app in Bloatware (samsung default app) list to save power
This app run WITHOUT ROOT

Doze mode not working

Nexus 6P, All Stock, Marshmallow w/ May security updates. [non-rooted]
A while back, I noticed Doze had stopped working. I always leave my phone unplugged overnight, and the battery graph used to be a mostly flat line overnight, with no wake activity. Recently, the graph is sloped, and there is a lot of activity overnight. I tried disabling WIFI and Google Now, but that didn't help.
I really do not want to do a factory reset. I don't think that will help. Also, I haven't installed any new apps - I'm not sure what it is. The phone displays a lot of wake locks throughout the day as well.
Has anyone run into this problem before and has a more specific solution or approach to troubleshoot? I wish Google hadn't dumbed down their battery info, you really can't get any meaningful information with 3rd party apps. Is there a way to identify what woke up the phone during those time it was dozing?
Looks pretty normal to me. I see just a handful of wakelocks for you. You could always try setting Location to battery-saving mode. Make sure bluetooth is off, see if that helps.
I have the same issue even when in battery saver mode overnight. Sometimes I'll lose 40% in just six or seven hours.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
So nobody have a solution to this problem? Sometimes it loses 1-2 percent per night, but sometimes about 15, obviously it processes something, I can't understand what, I don't install new applications in monthes.
Most battery stat apps need root after 4.4 but you could use adb if your keen...
Dumpsys System Diagnostics
Viewing Battery Use Data
Battery Historian Graph
Edit: Wakelock Detector has a pc version which could be easier if it works...
having the same issue!!! i also notice my wifi line to be constant even when wifi is switched off!!! which is absolutely strange!!!!
Happy news from me.
I successfully restored Doze Mode in my phone MiA1 Android One 8.1.0 Dec 2018.
Here is how. Go to Developer options, Background check.
Turn the Switches to Off for most Apps except the Critical ones. (Don't Rush, it's not easy to determine the Critical Apps. Choose in stages till the Doze mode kicks in).
Here's a list of System Apps which I have switched off
ANT HALL Service
Calendar
Chrome
FactoryKit Test
Gmail
Google
Google Play ... (all of them)
Maps
Settings
Spock
Translate
____________
You may have to do some experiments.
I could not pinpoint which System Apps were the rogue ones.
I eliminated the possibility of all apps that I installed as the cause.
The rogue apps which prevented my phone entering the doze mode were unknown components of Android OS and Android system (I am hundred percent sure).
My approach is a trial and error one and I expect some malfunction in the future.
BUT, I reconfirm that in my phone Doze Mode is now working.
Here is some inside info. My MiA1 Android One 8.1.0 (Dec 2018) Phone's Doze Node did work for some time after I did all that mentioned, but NOT GOOD enough; again it malfunctioned and continuous 3% per hour battery consumption by Android OS was noticed with totally idle phone.
(Then deleted cache data of all apps including system ones. DID NOT HELP. So my advice is don't waste your time doing this).
(Remote all syncing of all apps. DID NOT HELP).
LAST Attempt. Deleted App data and also cache data of Google Play services. It takes some time to initiate and it was OK. May have worked, not sure as Google/Android meanwhile updated its Google and other related apps in the Google Play Store.
Now the REAL Good News
It's now 3 days my phone's Doze Mode is ACTUALLY WORKING!!
Now the screen-off battery consumption is 0.7% per hour which includes non-doze mode. The doze mode works even when the phone is in the pocket and moving. You only need the screen to be switched off.
This has been my phone's normal behaviour for last 3 years (since September 2017)
I perhaps want to thank @google / @ANDROID for getting rid of the buggy update of August 19 on September 5.

Abnormally Fast Battery Drain

I've posted in the Android General Q&A and
in the custom ROM forum itself, but have gotten no responses.
A search on XDA and other sites yielded nothing similar to my issue, so here—
Issue: Abnormally fast battery drain. My battery would
be fully charged, and almost immediately start draining until
it'd show 1% within 2 hrs. Screen would be off mostly (normal
use).
Been on a custom ROM since January 2017 (crDroid) and have had no problems with it since,
except 3 days ago, when the problem first appeared.
Things that are ON: LTE data (or Wi-fi), Auto apps update on
Google Play Store (never been problematic before), Location,
Things that are OFF: Bluetooth, ScreenCast, Caffeine
When I check Battery in Settings, the numbers don't add up.
I'd have battery indicator at 70% for example, but Screen,
Android System, all other apps would add up to only 7%. So
that's a whopping 23% unaccounted for.
But here's the weird thing: it drains fast until 1%, then at 1%,
the phone is supposed to initiate automatic shutdown like it has before.
When this issue cropped up, the phone keeps going for about 6 hours
or so before shutdown is started. Checking Kernel Adiutor occasionally,
I'd see a much slower decrease in voltage which probably reflects
more accurately the power drawdown situation.
Things I've done:
-clear cache (both through File Explorer and TWRP Recovery)
-clear batterystats.bin
-calibrate battery after full charge/discharge (via Root Essentials,
which basically does the same thing as manually deleting batterystat.bin,
if I'm not mistaken)
-Resetting App Preferences via Setting/Battery
None of the above has worked. Any idea what might be wrong?
My device is a Zuk Z1, with a 4100mAh battery. It usually lasts me more
than a day on normal use, but as the attached pic shows, it's at 96%
yet without having used any apps yet, has only 2 hrs of juice left.
I've tried reflashing my ROM, wiping everything including formatting data
yet nothing has worked.
I'm a light user, as I don't play games or watch videos on my phone.
Neither do I use graphics-intensive apps. I haven't used processor-intensive apps
that require constant GPS (like Google Maps, Waze) since then.
EDIT: OK, I've flashed 3 other ROMs: Citrus-CAF, NucleaROM and stock, and the problem persists.
By doing the above, I've crossed out the possibility of it being the ROM. Neither is it the battery
itself, because it would've shut down by itself at 1%, yet at 1% I can last 6 or 7 hours of light use.
Anyone out there have any idea?

Try XOSP. was very good by tech mashido for battery.
And 1% don't last that much. It's a long prediction.
