Better firmware or app for my SC9863A unit - Android Head-Units

Hi guys, i have a Hizpo (Chinese) head unit with SC9863A with basic factory fw (details in screenshot). It is basically doing what it is supposed to do, however i cant find any way to get the traffic assist function to work.
FM Radio app is working, but when i want to listen to music player (or use navi or any other app), it will not interrupt it with traffic announcement from radio station. Unit of course has the TA function. The option is there in the radio app, looks like it is working, but in reality it is not.
I think that just the radio app isnt able to be shown on top of another app (music, navi...). However there is no such option in settings. Or maybe the fm radio app is just useless.
Is there any good app for my unit, which can replace original fm radio app? I have found the NavRadio app here, will that get the job done? Or maybe, is there any fw which i can use instead of the original one? I can imagine that the unit will work better with some better firmware.

This is not a FYT unit. I will request to have it moved to the general Android head units sub-forum

Best apps to replace stock apps (Radio)

Hi.
I have a Eonon GA5161F car head unit running on Kit Kat.
It comes with a built in FM radio app which uses the cars aerial, but I would like to download a similar app that looks better than the stock app but am struggling to find one. Just want an FM app that uses the aerial and not data or wifi.
Also, what are the best apps to have on an android head unit?
Many thanks
I think it is not easy. I've been searching for a while... and nothing founded.
The radio app seems to be linked to the MCU. ANd I have not found anything generic ( for multiples MCUs).
If you find anything, please gice an advice
Thanks indeed!

FM Radio keeps scanning for stations

Hi,
I have one of the cheap Chinese Android 9.0 headsets with the PX6 Octa-core Processor 1.5 GHz RK3399 (Radio Chip NXP 6686). The model is Fongent Car Android 9.0 Radio Multimedia Player PX6 4G RAM 64G ROM.
The problem I have with it is that the radio will not stay on any station that I choose. Everytime, I switch to a programmed station, it starts to scans after like 10 second and always stops on the first station in memory that it had found. It is getting very annoying now. I tried to fiddle around with the AF TA PTY settings but that didn't do anything.
Anyone has experience with this radio app? Is there another one I can use that doesn't need internet connection to use and can use the antenna?
Please help!
Thank you.
Somewhere in the radio settings you must also select the correct region: japan/europe/etc.
Did you do that?

Yep, i had to do this on mines when i first got it. it was still set to China. Also if you flash the wrong MCU file it could also cause this issue.

I didn't flash anything. The unit is as it came from the factory. I did change the region to US. The radio has automatically programmed different stations under P1, P2, P3, etc all the way to P18 I think. But always stops at 88.7 New station. Even if I choose a different station like P5 or whatever...I get to listen to that station for like 5 seconds or whatever and then it starts to scan and then stop at 88.7! So frustrating. To the point, I just want to use a different FM app for this. But I don't know of any that uses the FM radio to broadcast instead of looking for an internet connection. I am not looking for internet radio.

It happened to me with some radio stations, I solved the problem by turning off the TA.
First question did you contact your seller about this? When you do get to listen to a station does it sound clean? Are you moving or parked? Can you manually tune in or enter a station frequency and see if it starts to scan again? It's possible your car has an amplified antenna and it needs a power injector. Otherwise I'd say something is wrong with the radio and you should send it back.

No I did not contact the seller in China about this. Yes the station sounds clean and clear. I have tried it while parked and/or moving. It doesn't make a difference. Yes I can manually move the tuner to a different station and it plays for a few second and then again starts to scan. It does NOT stay in a particular station other than 88.7. Everything was ok with the stock stereo that came with the car. Is there only on radio app on Android 9.0? Can I not try a different radio app to see if that work? Mailing the unit back would be more hassle that it is worth. To me it is a software issue or some settings/tweaks that needs to be made.
Well I understand that shipping back to China is less than ideal, but your seller is better placed to help you than any of us especially with the little bit of information you provided. Best case they can give you an MCU update that could fix the problem or at the very least work with you to adjust settings in the service menu. Or they may realize the MCU is defective and send you a replacement. The only alternative radio apps I know of are only for MTC MCU. Yes the radio chip is controlled by the MCU so you're not likely to find a generic radio app.

You don't give enough info so I can only give a general answer. On some of the older Android 5.1 units this happened when using google Maps in combination with the radio app in the background. The later 5.1.1 firmwares or updates to 6.0.1 solved this issue.

Like mentioned before: Did you use the horizontal menu bar at the bottom to swipe left/right to activate the several RDS options and to use the settings (gear) in that bar to activate RDS and Europe band?
Radio reception could be that your antenna needs an amplifier. That depends on the car.
Only for @mclaudio: Please unzip the attached zip to a clean FAT32 formatted usb-disk/sd-card. you should have an Allapp.pkg and lsec6521update. Put it in your unit. It will flash my Joying radio mod to your unit. I renamed the radio app to the format your unit is using (other users: ONLY flash this to your unit if your radio app IS called 190001002_com.syu.radio.apk (and/or if you have a Sinosmart). Check the numbers up front correctly. It is not for a Joying)

Yt9213a (8227L) NextRadio app can't access FM radio reciever

I was looking for a different radio app, since the built-in one isn't very good and does not store stations persistently. I downloaded NextRadio, but when it loads it says "FM Radio is Unavailable...... NextRadio doesn't have access to the FM radio receiver in your device". How is it that the stock Radio app works but not this one? Anyone have a good radio app that uses the FM tuner? (Not internet radio). Thanks.

The radio chip in these units is not presented to the Android system. Instead the radio app sends commands to a dedicated radio module on the amplifier board. The same for the Bluetooth unit, as it's not actually part of the Android tablet.
These head units are two devices that work together. The Android part is basically a tablet that has dedicated apps to talk to the Radio part. The two parts work separate, and that's why all the FM radio apps and stuff are such garbage. They have to send commands to the actual FM module on the Radio board and get back a response about what is happening. In theory it would be possible to see what commands and data the FM radio app uses and write your own to send & receive the same data.

Is this separation of modules also related to why the EQ/Balance/Fade functionality does not work on this head unit? I noticed a few reports stating the same problem I'm having... where the faders have no effect whatsoever. No front/rear fade, no left/right pan, and no EQ change.

By the way, I discovered something today... I was playing music files from a USB drive and lo and behold, the EQ and Balance functionality worked. I started to think about why and I think it has to do with what you said. The reason it wasn't working for me initially is because I was trying to use it with the radio, and since u said the radio is outside of the android layer, that's probably why it wasn't working. But it looks like it DOES work with any audio that's within the Android layer.
Can confirm what @pizzaboy192 has posted. You will NOT be able to use any sound processing, not even to mute radio during navigation directions because of this funky implementation.
All you can do is root and then replace the radio apk with the macnaughty one that does save stations and (for me) has HD information.
I used this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/android-head-units/everything-yt9216b-t4007063
BTW :you probably miss the HIFI flag in build.prop as in my case at least the built in equalizer and spatializer work with the radio app.. Viper4Android however, does not work, despite being complied in and having root access, simply because the audio path from the radio bypasses the OS.

TS10 unit where the stock radio lacks RDS (com.tw.radio app)

Hi,
i have a head unit (TS10) which actually works quite nicely. Its supposedly an octa-core unit (6GB/128GB version) that runs "Android 12" (i suspect that it would be version 10 irl, but anyhow...)
One thing that bothers me a bit is that this unit (or the software on it) is that the radio app (com.tw.radio.Radio) does not support radio text. I have tried other options (the navradio+) which doesn't support it either (it seems).
My previous unit (which was a cheap yt9213aj unit) DID support it. Am i doing something wrong here or does these TS10 units simply not support it?
TS10 support RDS text! And NavRadio running on TS10 support it too.
Why are you saying that?
RDS text depend mostly on the radio stations broadcasts.
If your unit receive the RDS station name then it can receive also the text.
In some countries the text is not sent in the correct field and everything is sent in the RDS name field sequentially.
That's what is called "LiveRDS".
Most of USA radio stations adopt this LiveRDS method.
In Poland is very common too.
Hey KoTiX2,
Maybe its me doing something very wrong here, but i can't get it to work whatever i try. On my old unit, i could alway see the current song/artist, etc in the particular portion of the screen (just beneath the station name) but on this unit, i can't really capture anything. I have tried to enable all/any option available in the menus but to no avail (unfortunately).
I think i have seen fragments of the same question here on this forum where other TS10 users have asked the same thing (and i need to find them again and link for reference). But in general, is there something specific that needs to be enabled for this to work? When i saw (IRL) my old yt9213aj having the support for it (and later on, reading up on how "funky" the implementation actually was for this particular family of units), i started to have my doubts.
(again, idk what is supposed to work and what is not, which is why i'm asking this perhaps daft question)
And please take my question the right way. I see that you are the author of navradio+ which is (imho) a superb application for radio (its rather brilliant tbh - clean interface and well laid out). Of course it could just be my own setup / configuration that is wrong in this case. I simply can't tell.
Check if you have RDS on, it's in the settings: config info. It also depends on what radio module you have, some do not support RDS, for example Phillips (NXP) TEF6851 is without RDS. Or there is an error in the firmware, someone was helped by an update. Your thread is here, try searching:
New TS10 UIS7862 6gb ram 128gb head unit q&a's
So I bit the bullet and bought myself this head unit: https://a.aliexpress.com/_9JZiHu Ad stated that unit is 4gb ts8, but unit shipped and arrived is 6gb TS10. Plugged everything up unit works nice and smooth as expected, but one seriously...
forum.xda-developers.com
Thx Pavel-71, i'll search that thread and/or post there
The unit reports that it has a TDA7708 radio module on-board and when looking at spec-sheets for this module, it should really support this properly. Maybe it is what KoTiX2 mentions above that they store the data in the wrong field (essentially hiding it from view).
