Bluetooth: any ROMs/apps to improve device management, priority, auto-connection rules? - Asus Zenfone 6 Questions & Answers

On a Whatsapp video call, listening via my bluetooth headphones. My wife pulls the car into the garage, and the phone switches to the car bluetooth automatically and won't switch back. I've tried forgetting the car, forgetting the headphones, but nothing seems to stop the car having priority (could it really be alphabetical priority? C for Car before H for Headphones? (assuming the devices are named Car and Headphones)).
Various other flavours of this annoyance. Auto-connecting or not. Switching or not. It's absolutely infuriating. Does anyone know if:
Bluetooth device management on Android is just ****, has always been ****, and will always be ****?
1 was true but was fixed since Android 11 / bluetooth BTFM.CHE.2.1.5-00254-QCACHROMZ-1.329647.2.333715.1 (Zenfone 6 stock)
1 is true but can be fixed by flashing the bluetooth firmware with a super awesome replacement?
1 is true but can be fixed by installing a super awesome app?
Thanks all! Surely I can't be the only one frustrated by this.

Having issues with BT on a Lightspeed Zulu (aircraft headset)

To my knowledge, this is the first aviation headset that allows a BT connection to a phone you can talk on the phone hands free while flying. I can get it to connect and make/receive phone calls without a problem, but there is a semi-obnoxious hum/high pitch/static noise and I can't seem to make it go away, and also a ticking sound that increases and decreases volume at random. I've read about other pilots having great success with the BT portion, but I'm wondering if maybe the Tilt is only "compatible" with certain BT devices. Anyone have any thoughts/knowledge on the selective compatibility issue, or have heard of similar issues with BT in general? This is an incredible headset worth the money with it's MP3 input, noise cancelling, and everything. I'd hate to have to consider taking it back because I can't use the currently exclusive BT feature.
BT is comprised of a series of standards defining each individual interface type. I would wager that the problem is with the headphones more so than with the way BT is implemented in the phone.
That said, you can confirm the performance by swapping headsets or phones to see if the problems shifts.

Nexus One Bluetooth issues (short version: it sucks)

Moved from a MT3G to the Nexus One, and I've been very disappointed by the Bluetooth.
The phone pairs fine with my Bluetooth devices, but it rarely transfers the audio. I've tested it on several devices:
Chrysler MyGig: pairs, but doesn't transfer audio. Carkit DOES show incoming and outgoing calls, but audio stays on the phone. Pressing "Bluetooth" in call doesn't do anything.
Garmin Nuvi 855T - pairs and calls work, but it regularly pops up with "phone connection error"
Spracht Bluetooth carkit - pairs, but same audio transfer issues as on the MyGig unit.
These three products worked perfectly with the MT3G, so I'm curious what Google broke and whether any of the other non-stock roms out there can make Bluetooth work correctly.
having issues myself with streaming A2DP in a 2010 VW. Phone works great but music clips almost like it's buffering. Issue doesn't exist with other phones.
My issue with bluetooth is I cant send files to my laptop anything works fine...
Don't know about your issue, but my N1 hasn't had any major BT problems. Occasionally it drops out while running with my Plantronics with A2DP, but that happened with my G1 too. File transfers are no problem for me either, and I never get disconnect problems. Stock rom was fine too with BT before I installed CM5. Maybe you have some app that's interfering with it? Try killing everything.
I have an aftermarket parrot bluetooth car kit and its worked perfectly with every phone ive ever had: sidekick 3, tmobile dash, bb curve, g1, bb 8900, mytouch. and now with the nexus it says it pairs but wont connect. so its completely useless. and i live in california so i have to have handsfree. bummer.
What annoys me most is a) how this wasn't picked up during testing by Google and b) how they managed to break something that worked perfectly on the G1 and MT3G.
It has been submitted as a bug in Google Code, but that doesn't mean they'll fix it. Sad that I have to use an iPhone just to make calls in my car when I paid $563 for the N1
my jawbone prime works great..
sometimes i have to send a file twice to my mac, but it does send, and i can send from mac back to the phone
Really? My first, and ongoing, impression of the N1's blue tooth is that it's really slick.
It pairs with my in dash NAV on my '09 Jetta TDI before I pull out of the driveway, every time. Phone calls always work and the A2DP streaming is flawless, this is the first device I've seen it actually work and play well with -- consistently .
The sound quality is BETTER than my iphone through the apple A/V cable; with the iphone I had to put an audio filter inline behind the dash to suppress engine noise caused by a ground loop. I'm considering removing it now since blue tooth A2DP streaming would obviously be immune to this problem.
I couldn't be happier, personally. I can control playlists from the stereo head unit or the steering wheel while the N1 is in my pocket. It's been very reliable and has performed beyond my expectations... not to mention the "wow factor" when somebody realizes where the tunes in the car are coming from.
For me, the blue tooth performance has been an unexpected bonus... It wasn't a consideration when purchasing the phone but now I feel it's become a "must have" feature.
- Honda Car Kit
- Philips SHB7100
- Gear4 BlackBox
- two Desktop Docks
are working fine.
"Audio Link" sometimes has "clipping".
Pairs fine with my Garmin Nuvi 265WT, however ALWAYS drops a call around the 5 min mark. My G1 did the same thing with my Garmin Nuvi 680.
My N1 won't work with my 08 Nissan Xterra. Pairs just fine but won't transfer audio. This worked fine with my Samsung Blast, G1 and Cliq.
There is a thread about this on the google nexus one help forum but unfortunately I'm not allowed to post external links. I'd recommend voicing your problem over there to let google know this is a widespread issue.
I have problems with my BMW Bluetooth car kit. It connects, phonebook transfers, try and make a phone call and I get no sound. Receivers phone rings but no sound in the car. Once the phone call is cut the Bluetooth disconnect and won't connect until the car Bluetooth is turn off and on.
The Bluetooth on my old iPhone worked perfect every time. I thought Bluetooth had standards and should work with any device if it supports the profile.
How hard is it, especially for a company like Google to get it to work.
My Lexus bluetooth pairs perfectly every time, and usually the call will last a couple minutes before I suddenly get no audio going to the car, or the car may say "check handset". At that point, I have to click the Bluetooth button on the phone to switch to the handset. If I restart the phone it usually works fine for a while, then this happens again. I never had a problem with 3 other phones in this car.

I've got a BMW with a bluetooth kit and have similar issues.
The way I've overcome it is to always keep the bluetooth in the car "on" and on the Nexus "off".
When I get in my car with the key fob in the ignition, enable the nexus one bluetooth and it works.
It's a pain to enable/disable the bluetooth on the handset but it works until there's a proper fix for it.
Also i recently got Modaco's Desire Rom on the handset and found the above procedure works without fail.
One other thing I noticed since having the Modaco Desire ROM is that when you're in a bluetooth call all phone audio comes from the car speakers.
Never used to happen with the stock nexus rom or my previous Touch HD.
It's cool but would be great if there was a way to enable the bluetooth audio so phone sounds came through the car speakers without making a call.

I have a very similar issues with my Nexus One and my Lexus IS350. It pairs OK. But if I make a call, the cars display flashes "check handset" and then puts the call through. I can hear the other end, but they can't hear me.
This is a "deal breaker". Guess I'll be sending my Nexus One back for a refund.
I have been unable to use bluetooth to transfer files OR to tether.
I paired it with my MotoRokr speakerphone, and it paired fine, but I didn't use it to see if it actually works.
Regardless, there are obvious issues with the BT that need straightened out.

how did you that?? i have a 2009 vw
My Nexus one will pair with my computer, but it won't send or receive a file. It won't even go to the trouble of discovering my jawbone earpiece. I'm really disappointed since this should be the simplest of tasks that such a wonderful phone should accomplish. I thought it was just my phone, but seeing this thread makes me sad that that nothing has been done and hopeful that it's more than just my phone and, therefore, there's the possibility it will be addressed in one form or another.
Ok, I played around some more tonight with bluetooth.
It works with my Motorokr speakerphone great. I can talk, make calls, etc... works well.
I got the bluetooth tether working too.
I still have not been able to get file transfers working though. They look like they send, the phone thinks it sent successfully, but the computer says the transfer was interrupted. I'm not as concerned about the file transfer as I was about getting the tether working.
paired the nexus one to my '09 Nissan GTR ... works perfectly fine ... everything works as it should, calls come in perfectly each and everytime ... i do however, leave my BT running 24/7 on both the car and phone

Bluetooth Streaming Audio from Pandora to Car skipping

unfortunately when i connect bluetooth to my car radio the music skips about every 15 sec. very annoying. Anyone else having the problem.
I have an iphone 3gs that doesnt skip and works great. I love the Evo but bugs are continually showing up.
Its your internet. Try updating your prl.
i did update the prl before i tried it.
still does it.
I have a bluetooth reciever for my AVR and I noticed some skipping as well. Not as frequent as you are saying but if I moved more than 10' away it would be rather bad. The Bluetooth range seems to be poor. In a car I can't imagine you having a problem. I have heard of some issues with factory bluetooth.
I had same problem till I decided to turn off my wifi.. and it started working fine.. it just doesn't have to do with Pandora, its will any Music that you stream over Bluetooth..
Just turn off your wifi and it will work fine.
Thanks
Or just place your phone somewhere else in your car. Bluetooth has very lousy range (isn't it like 10 feet in perfect conditions?), and as such moving it a foot or two somewhere else could make a world of difference.
Its definitely not the internet. I could be at home in wifi with phenominal internet it even laying it off of my SD card. If im in a vehicle or on a bus, its pretty solid and works really well. I walk out the bus and walk around either to m next bus or to work and it fails to play for more than 4 seconds without skipping. And its not like a short, nuisance of a skip. It often stays skipped for up to 3 seconds at a time. Completely unusable. Happens however i connect my phone to any a2dp device. Tried tweaking the /etc/Bluetooth/audio.conference file as suggested in a couple nexus one/s sites, but unfortunately seems to be specific to those phones. This is making me hate this phone. Every other phone I've had in the past two years does this just fine. Whyis it having such a hard time with such a simple task that others have done perfectly? Even other Roms work better but i like also better than sense anyday. Maybe its a kernel issue?. I really want this fixed. But it seems like no one is even trying to work towards a solution. Not on the surface anyway.
Did you try turning off your wifi and any other unneeded services? The only time I have had skipping over bluetooth is when I have my wifi on as well, other than that it streams smoothly through my car stero and computer over bluetooth.

This.
If that doesn't help, then if possible, you should use an aux in cable to prove it's only a bluetooth issue. If it still skips, I'd try a new rom and/or kernel. A2DP performance seems much improved in CM7 compared to Sense roms.. or at least it seems better to me.
I've had the same skipping problem with my bluetooth earphones and evo. The only slight solution that I've had was holding the phone in direct line of site with the bluetooth earphones. When I do that, it doesn't skip as much.
Streaming bluetooth audio to car stereo
Thanks Anku13, your fix works. Just installed a Clarion CZ501 bluetooth receiver in my car, experienced skipping audio every 15 - 30 seconds once my Leo connected/streaming. Killing WiFi was the trick. Love not having an AUX cable lying around in the cabin.

[Q] Spotty Bluetooth Performance?

I'm able to connect my Atrix to my JVC double din in car stereo system via bluetooth and it connects and pairs just fine. The problem I have is that the music "skips" or loses sound every few 20 to 30 seconds. It plays the whole music file but seems to drop out here and there. My old tilt 2 played on this same jvc beautifully using bluetooth. But the Atrix cant keep up? It happens no matter if I play music files through the stock android music player, or Power Amp player. What gives?
I also have a JVC Kw-Avx810 with bluetooth adapter installed. I have the same problem, for calls it works perfectly but for music its a bitt frustrating to hear music skipping each 30 seconds. Sometimes I am able to hear the music without skipping and that happens when I first play the music on the phone and while the music is playing on the phone I turn on bluetooth on the phone and the after 10 seconds it begins to stream the music to the Jvc Unit without any problem. I do that every time that I wanna hear music on my Jvc unit. Havent had any more issues so far.
I use it for my ford sync and at times it will do strange things that my nokia n95 never did but for the most part it works well...

I had a similar problem when I had my streak. It was because I was pairing Audio with one device and bt phone with another. If you are doing this it will cause that. I use my Sony stereo just fine, will disconnect occasionally, but quality is great.
I use my atrix with my prius, and so far so good.I haven't had disconnect issues yet.
I think it's something JVC could probably fix with a firmware update. The atrix streams just fine to both my Sony and Kenwood headunits.
I have the same problem.

http://www.jvc-victor.co.jp/english/car/bluetooth/2007.html
The key terms: "Usable but not stable" , although it was not tested with Atrix, it is evidenced on both HTC and Motorola phones.
Great move JVC .. you've made your product useless to me and tarnished your reputation at the same time. Couldn't get your guys to write a new firmware ... Cant get me to buy another one of your products.
The same looks very like it will be true with Motorola's Andriod phones. Both JVC and Motorola will soon be wiped off my present or future ownership map. Woooo
Mine drops out/ goes silent / loses bt connection about once every 8-12 minutes when connected to my sony head unit (mex-bt5100). I turn off bt then back on, then restart my streaming radio.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I have a jvc double din unit too. I don't experience any issues with audio... however the phone is a bit garbled when connected.
Have you tried moving the bluetooth dongle to the front USB port?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
i Have a single DIN (AVX33), the bluetooth is built-in so there is no dongle.
I read quite a bit about this problem .. it is related to the phone hands free profile sending signals to the headunit in a way that the headunit cannot handle without disturbing audio. It is exasberhated by low signal strength (both bluetooth signal and GSM signal), and also by the fact some andriods will give equal transmit priority to these hands-free signals that it does streaming audio. This is why turning wifi off helps a little (reduces interference). The signals that are interfering with streaming audio are the ones about battery life, and GSM signal strength. As signal strength chagnes, the phone sends out a new value despite the headunit not needing to do anything with it. This is what interupts the audio consistently but irregularly
End result .. it can be fixed by software adjustment on the andriod (do not send updates when streaming audio .. unlikely with Atrix unless Moto gets their thumbs out of their asses), by software adjustment on the receiver (unlikely as JVC is a **** company that does not care about my woes), or by mitigating the problem as I appear to be forced to do. I do this by turning off the "phone" porition of the bluetooth. Or by starting the music and THEN connecting to bluetooth. Unacceptable to me but I have no other options.
I f**king hate how complex our electronics have become and how consumers are powerless to fix these problems DESPITE the fact some of them have a higher level understanding of what the problem actually is. (therefoer I will not be purchasing anything from JVC or Motorola ever again. They prevent me from solving problems and refuse to fix them for me.)

Really, really poor bluetooth audio quality?

On my G6, I have really terrible audio quality over Bluetooth connections, I've had two separate G6s, of different colors, received weeks apart, and they both suck for Bluetooth audio, especially my Sony car stereo, and LG Tone Free... can anybody else report on their experience? Does your LS993 sound awful on your Bluetooth devices?
Have a fairly new G6 bluetooth og Bose earpiece working very well, also on 2010 F150 pick up and 2012 Buick no audio issues. Audio has been fine so far.
Mine also is pretty poor. The volume level is about half the level of the satellite radio or fm stations in my car
Hello all.
I had G2 in the past and I use to listen music in my car, using Bluetooth connection to Pioneer head unit. I have Spotify premium account and I have my Playlist downloaded with the best quality. However once I got G6 a week ago I noticed that audio quality from the g6 with the same songs, same Playlist, same Spotify account, is not as good as it was with g2. So I did a short research and found a thread in the net where people reported the same problem.
A guy from the thread suggested to disconnect all other Bluetooth devices from the phone (like smart watch or band) and actually that solved my problem. I have MiBand2. Once I disconnected it the audio quality became as good as before.
So guys, if you have a smart watch, try to remove it and check the quality again. I hope that helps.
I went a couple of months with no issues on my Kia Optima, then suddenly, I started getting really bad aliasing on the highs. As said above, I turned off my Huwaei watch and the sound was normal again. After a bit, I turned my watch back on, and it remained fine.
I had it happen once again many weeks later; and again, a quick off - wait - on, cycle with the watch fixed it. So whatever it is, seems to be a bandwith allocation issue with the bluetooth software. From March '17 thorugh almost Sept '17 and I've only had to do this twice? I think I can live with this.
Hey heres something for you to try..
Download WiFi Scanner from App Store.. Look at your 2.4ghz networks.. then keep in mind your cordless phones, IP Cams, Walkie Talkies, baby monitors in your area.. You may be a victim of signal interference.
Bluetooth operates on the 2.4ghz spectrum along with a TON of other devices now available.
Your sony stereo may be the culprit.. if is an aftermarket "Xplod" deck
Im an audiophile, and my G6 runs better than my Samsungs.. (also no issues with the "preventative volume warning"
What you also may have is an app that is causing the volume to lower...
For example.. when i stream the music player with the stock app, sometimes Snapchat notification sounds cause the rest of the volume to be lower..
Google Maps is another one that can hijack the sound but you can control in settings.
For using music try a different app ( i use Maple Player) and it works great ..
Based on your experiences i think its something outside causing the problem to be honest. but thats ALOT of trial and error to deal with.. if worse comes to worse- you can always get an aux jack bluetooth adapter for your car stereo if it IS the stereos bluetooth receiver .
