I bricked my phone [Samsung A40] - Samsung Galaxy A40 Questions & Answers

Hello guys,
I have tried several wrong root firmwares for my SM-A405FN smartphone. I thought it was A30 so I tried flashing custom roms for A30.
And I got "This phone is not running Samsung's official" error which it loops and enter in download mode everytime.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
then I flashed the WRONG stock rom for A30, despicte the fact I have A40.
The problem here, was that I couldn't flash anything due to some misterious "could not connect error".
After that appeared on the screen some information about the PIT,on the download mode.
I tried also flashing the firmware for the PIT, which it actual repartions the phone, and it runned succesefully. But I ended with this error:
"Error validating footer (6)
..tom recovery
Meta a405fnxxu4cv62, 54217902R"
My question it's if you know how to recuperate back my phone?
Next, I'm gonna try flashing my stock rom, preferably for Ver 9.0 / Pie Version. Then working on a solution for the problem above. And after that how to bypassing "Not running official Samsung".

at 1st I don't own that device but several other Samsungs
Which FW was that? the right one?
Where from did you get it?
Do you have multiple part stock ROM (AP, BL, CSC, CP all as separate files)?
Download mode still working?
Odin still recognises the phone?
Flashing the firmware for pit doesn't work to repartition it.
Pit file has to be extracted from CSC file and placed in Odin separatly and "repartion" box checked.

UPDATE1:
I tried to upload stock with Odin, but I encountered an error.
Then I restarted the phone, and I got this message:
And I found on youtube & here on xda, that I have to use Smart Switch, old version.
Now I can not find the Serial Number, on the box... and I might have to uncover the back of the phone.

@Cristishor201 to me it seems there is no (stable) usb connection if at all.
Doesn't COM field in Odin turn blue when you connect it to PC?
Tried other cables or USB ports?
Btw to let me get a notification put a @ before my name

@bmwdroid:
1. I didn't used the right FirmWare from the begining. I used recovery for A30 instead A40
2. I got the stock from updato.com
3. yes, I do. I even have an CSC and a CSC_HOME
4. now download mode is no longer working...
5. yes, Odin still recognise the phone.

do you think that I shall find the serial number on the back of plastic inside phone ? or do you know a work around without serial number ?

I've no idea. It former times the numbers where there.
If you haven't kept the box, no. But what will the number be good for?
On my other Samsungs with not detachable batteries it's printed on the back although very hard to read.

I was able to return to Download mode, by flashing the twrp (the right one).
But it still fails..

@bmwdroidAfter I changed the cable, and flashed the latest stock (EMUI 11, instead EMUI 9), I did pass that error, and get repaired.
It get started with the initial installation steps.

Just flash the latest Lollipop again and it should be fixed.
What do you mean Lollipop didn't work? It works, so what steps did you take?

ok just finished flashing . the same problem persist i bypassed the boot but still can't turn on wifi also no sound no camera .what to do ?
Hi, I have same problem as neoom. After flash to LP phone doesn't make any sound at all and the camera is off. I've tried flashing with firmware from Lenny1988 twice but it didn't change anything. I've tried flashing new modem and bootloader - still no sound. Anyone could help?
Use kies tool to upgrade your phone. Go to tools, firmware upgrade and initialization, enter the model number (ex : GT-I9505 with capital letters), then the s/n that you will find on the back sticker behind battery and kies will find and restore the correct csc, will repartition your phone, will wipe all the partitions and will flash the most appropriate firmware for your phone depending on the correct region. Your wifi and camera may not work because toy have a mismatching cp and ap so let the Samsung kies do the job for you remember not to connect the phone while inputting the model number and sn but only when it tells you to connect it in Odin mode.
Kies says GT-I9505 does not support initialization.

The flashing was succesfull right? Odin gave no errors?
Then flash the firmware again only in this case with a pit and re-partition.
Get the pit from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
Maybe you are using the wrong version of Kies? Use Kies3. Because as you can see in this image, i can start initialization.(i cannot enter S/N because i have the gt-i9506) but pay attention to the capital letters! Write it down as the sticker behind the battery sais!

Let me be clear - of course i used Kies3, I'm getting the messege of not supported model after entering proper serial number (checked in Settings menu in phone and on the back sticker).
Hmm that's really weird. Then try to start this procedure while phone is connected to kies. I've done this on a i9505 to friend of mine so I know that there is a way to filly restore phone. Otherwise download the official rom from sammobile depending on your country and flash it via Odin.

just got my edge and ya.... i brokeded it

so i followed the instructions here on how to flash 935U to my verizon variant and i cant get the ODIN process to work. keis and smart switch tell me my phone isnt supported because i tried to restore the phone.. help please. i followed the instructions which are simple to follow. i put my phone in download mode. started odin and loaded all the files and it failed. what can i do now.. waiting for the stock firmare to dowload now but its taking forever
oh and just incase this is why. im on a mac running windows 10 bootcamp. maybe i dont have some drivers needed ?
Head to sammobile and get the official 935v firmware again, or download through samfirm. Make sure you have ODIN 3.12 and leave the phone unplugged and in dl mode. Unzip the fw files and place them in the appropriate boxes (bl, ap, cl, csc) and once they are all in Odin plug your phone in. If the box goes blue as recognized you are hits to press start. Tart will get you back to original asks try again.
And get a pc, lol
thanks for the reply
i have a pc but i am at school for 2 months without it.. i booted windows just to get by for now.
i downloaded the firmware from sammobile and it may have been currupt becasue it didnt work as well. i am worried but i dont think its hardbricked. i just cant seem to figure out why i cant flash the 935U FW

I wouldnt worry about U. Get V back up and then there is whole separate U thread here with a lot of tweaks. If anything else, look at the PH1 firmware thread (may be under beta thread) and try flashing that, then update to PI3.
are there steps i am not informed on like do certain files need to be in folders together or do i need to run something that was left out in the instructions? i have rooted and flashed with odin before and it always seems to be an interesting experience to say the least. but seriously im getting soooo pissed off right now
yeah tried odin 3. 12 with stock firmware.. put the home file in and the other 3 files in the right places.. still failed.. any other advice?
putting all these files on a flash drive and taking them over to a regular pc to see if this helps.. im really at a loss. this should be EASY right now seriously easy. how am i screwing this up!
tried another computer... didnt work. tried different files and methods.. nothing works.. tried verizon repair tool...joke..... tried everything.
It sounds like Odin/PC is not seeing the phone when it's plugged in. Do you have the Samsung drivers loaded?

it was seeing it when i plugged in.. and it would say so in the log.
suprisingly the verizon repair tool brought it back to life. it restored it to factory settings and firmware.. i want to root but im worried it wont take again

All seem to be ok. I see that it's a TAR file. Personally, I recommend you that use a .tar.md5 file, other than it takes longer, it's safer, because the file could be corrupted, and using the md5 extension, it makes a full revision of the file, looking for corruptions in the file, or information that is incorrect. I also have a j320m, and that never happened to me. Try redownloading the file, without deleting the .md5 extension. And if still getting that error, I'll give you the Odin version that i use with the j320m and other devices that are working perfectly fine.

Well, I uploaded the file in OneDrive
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvJ6DFiBtFQij12NYeyKycNa2VG7
There is a zip, wich contains:
-Drivers
-Latest stock ARO rom (Argentina, without carrier, so, it's basically the same as all other clean ROMs)
-Odin (don't remember what version)
-A tool to download the correct and latest firmware for your device (with correct codes for making your "Firmware status" original again)
The only thing it's that when you install the rom, the status of the phone probably will be modified, 'cause the location of the phone is different than the firmware.

I would like recommend to you a few tips (maybe you already know these tips) for solving your problems with Odin. I think that should be a line "Added" in Odin's log right after connecting your phone in download mode. So it's worth to try reinstall phone drivers in your computer. Next tip is about version of Odin - you should try Odin in version v3.13.1. In this version i flashed my phone several times (on Windows 10 1809) and the process was always fine (before I had a similar problem like you). I would also suggest use the latest firmware for your phone - SEB/G950FXXS4DSE1 (you can download via SamFirm app). At the end if i were you i'd check the check box "Re-Partition" in Options tab (in Odin), which mustn't be checked.
I have also the same phone like you (SM-G950F) just with different CSC (ETL).
I hope that will help you.

when i connect the phone it gets added to odin, no issues, i use the latest samsung usb drivers, even tried windows 10 build 1809, i've also tried odin version 3.13.1, tried flashing SEB/G950FXXS4DSE1 and odin just fails, re-partition is unticked
First, i use Odin 3.12.3, no need to use a beta, second, you can decrease the wait time A LOT if you are certain your files are not corrupted and remove the "md5" part of the extension, leaving only .TAR, also, you can open the CSC file, you will find a pit file inside, you can try extracting it and putting it in odin's PIT section, that fixes it a lot of time, make sure you are using the correct PIT
Edit: to open the TAR file, i recommend using 7zip
use samfirm to download the latest stock firmware and flash all 4 files using csc instead of home csc

Already tried before posting. OEM unlock and USB debugging is not activated, so the phone's not taking a custom recovery. Downloaded 10+ different firmwares from sammobile, still AP is returning with invalid MD5 error in ODIN. Some even can't unzip. Same results on 2 computers. Don't know what am doing wrong.

OK bro. just try this last steps.
Found some bootloader and modem thanks to this person djb77. here is the link for his rom,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/rom-galaxy-project-t3792787
just click on link below and download modem and BL.
Here is his modem link
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=271403
and here is bootloader link
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=271397
CLick on your device version in the link and select the modem and BL of May 16, 2019 and download them as they are latest.
Now i hope you already know that you must have installed samsung driver and you must be using Odin3_v3.13.1
Now boot in download and connect it to pc. if desktop use the backports of usb. Now in odin(try run it as admin sometime) click on BL and select the Bootloader which you have downloaded. And then click CP and select the modem you have downloaded. and click start. Sometime antivirus mess things up too. Try turning it off too.
this is last from me brother. if it works which i pray it should then i would be glad. if it doesn't work. then i am sorry bro.

NISAR Ahmed NISAR is helping me get if fixed. Some progress as it took some rom on Odin, not booting to recovery now, but stuck on boot screen. Hopefully tonight.
Just my two cents-- but I'll bet you might be using the wrong version of Odin. I was in a similar bootloop after I tried flashing it with an Odin I found in some S7 Edge threads and it kept failing with all different types of firmwares. Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD is the version that worked for me.
That is true, use correct odin version plus correct rom plus correct method, always know what you are doing or there is a chance you will even make conditions worse..
Also, be specific in your op, tell what you were doing when that started happening, which rom were you using before and your exact model and firmware, so others can help you easily and readers may get a benefit if there is a solution.
Pls, this is not general help forum, post all help related queries on related forum.
