Question com.google.android.documentsui keeps crashing - Nothing Phone 1

Hi,
My stock "files" (com.google.android.documentsui) will not open anymore.
I've tried clearing cache and data but it will still instantly crash.
I've also tried uninstalling it with terminal.
That helps with choosing what file manager to choose in some apps.
But a few apps are dependent on com.google.android.documentsui and will not open a pop-up screen to choose a different file manager.
I've searched through the web without an answer. I don't know what to do except factory resetting.
I'm rooted, running the 1.1.3 update, is anyone else experiencing this?

Try a factory reset and if it keeps crashing, I recommend upgrading to 1.1.4..

Alot of force closes

Does anyone else keep getting force close errors? The last 3 builds ive tried keep force closing to the point where I have to delete the data.img and start over. I have tried changing the rom and have tried formatting my sd card. Is anyone else having this problem? Any body have a possible solution?
Which applications do a forced close?
mms, phone, a bunch of other ones. it restarts itself and resets my wallpaper if that helps at all
go into any terminal application (ex: Terminal Emulator)
type in and press enter afterwards
su
fix_permissions
let it do its thing then restart. i make it a habit after a fresh install or after installing many applications to fix permissions.
hope this helps.

I had the same problem when I switched android builds and tried to restore all my apps. If you clear the problem application's data, uninstall and reinstall, then it should work fine. Statics way might work, Ive never tried it. Jus sayin how I fixed a few of my apps,

[Q] Xoom WiFi Root 3.2 Post Install issue

OK I performed the install per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165998 and have read every single post as of about 5 minutes prior to writing this.
Everything went perfectly fine. Installing over a stock 3.1, except for rooting. I'm not completely new to this... not a master either. I've rooted my Atrix with every official update, and rooted my dad's Verizon Incredible, I think that's the name, and installed Cyanogenmod 7.
MY problem is I can't open any "links." In either gmail or e-mail clicking on a good URL and get it to open in the stock browser, Opera or Firefox (it prompted me before the update). The screen just dims and nothing. I tap the screen and the screen "undims." This also happens when I download a pdf in Firefox and try to open it. If I use Astaro File manager I can open the pdf with out any issues. It appears to be related to the browsers only so far.
I've already performed a restore missing apps and system data with Titanium Backup Root.
Do I need to clean Dalvik cache? Do a factory wipe? Hopefully something less drastic...
Any help or pointer to resources I missed are appreciated.
P.S. I did try posting on the developer thread, and I can't post. Since I'm not experienced enough to be of much help and I prefer researching and learning without asking questions previously asked and answered.
Checked Defaults...
I just tried settings--->applications--->manage applications---->pick your app and clear defaults? No default set for the Browser, Firefox, Gmail or Opera.
CWM Cache Partition Wipe
Sorry for multiple posts I'm trying to troubleshoot my problem...
The problem still exists after clearing the cache partition with CWM.
Removed Opera
No change except I've noticed it is faster since I cleared the cache.
Removed Firefox
Now the builtin browser works!
Reinstalled Opera
Initially the same issue... and then the option to select between the Browser or Opera!
Second try the selection box appeared quickly!
Restored Opera data via Titanium Backup and all still appeared well.
Rebooted same issue... Uninstalled and reinstalled again. No change.
Rebooting...
Redo
Uninstalled Opera.
Used CWM to clear the cache partition.
Reinstall Opera.
Reinstall Firefox.
And I'll post this before my session times out. I hop this may help someone else someday.

You must have missed a post on this topic --default app picker--and someone's solution. I think I saw it in the development section. The solution was to make sure that auto rotate was set to on, and then make the screen redraw the grayed out app default picker screen by rotating the Xoom. They said to do it for each app that was causing a problem. Sounds crazy, but it seemed to work. Look for the post, or just try it. It can't hurt.
Working... Why
Working now and survived a reboot without breaking.
I haven't restored any data. :-(
Anyone know why or where I can look to try and figure out why. How about if I can recover some of the application data selectively?

Check out post #3 on this thread.
Aha
Thank you!
Good news that works great.
Better news I learned a few new things.
A good day if I do say so myself.

After uninstalling applications, they still show in the "manage application" section

After uninstalling applications, they still show in the "manage application" section
Hi,
I don't know if someone else experienced the following issue. I tried to search it on the net but couldn't find something similar.
a few days back I purchased the autodesk sketchbook mobile and I also downloaded autodesk Pixlr-o-matic from the market and I also downloaded Trial Xtreme from Samsung apps, and they all worked fine. But I realised that everytime I reboot my phone those apps started to Force Close.
I decided to uninstall and install again and they worked fine, but again if I reboot the phone, they will stop.
Another thing I found when I was uninstalling those apps, is that some apps that I previously uninstalled are still listed in the manage applications section but with no icon and 0 bytes size. and if I click uninstall they disappear and when I reboot my phone they show again.
My phone is rooted and I tried wiping the cache and the dalvik cache, but the problem is not solved.
I wonder is those issues are related and if someone else experienced the same problem.
Thank you for your help.

Bassem

"files" app doesn't start anymore

Hi,
Since a couple of weeks now every time an app tries to invoke the "files" app to allow picking a file or selecting a destination I see the files app appearing for a fraction of a second, but then seems to die or get terminated.
Didn't change anything since a while on my op2, so far I haven't figured out what happened at a certain point to cause this.
Anyone else ran into this problem? Any idea how to fix it? I tried to clear data and cache of the files app, force stop, rebooting, restoring a backup wit titanium backup. No change.
Rooted op2 with latest oxygen os (3.0.2)
ok I sort of "solved" the problem by disabling the "files" app from TB -- so now I'm given the choice of picking another file manager.
For me it was the Box app that somehow made my Files Manager app crash. I removed it and it is back to functional.

Package Installer errors on 7.1.1

Hi guys,
I've got an issue on 7.1.1 on my X Compact and am at a loss as to how to solve it. I can install and update apps from the Play Store just fine, but if I try to install an app from a file saved on the phone, Package Installer just won't let my tap "Install". That's it. I can navigate around in Package Installer and I can tap "Cancel", but I can't install anything.
My phone is set to allow unknown sources, and I've already tried clearing the app's cache to no avail. I'm not rooted and can't for the time being or, trust me, I would. Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas?

I once had a simmilar issue with allowing root apps permissions on a custom rom. I solved it by factory restarting the phone, and if you want to do that, you can use Titanium Backup to "save" all your apps and data. Hope this helps.
