How To Guide Increase Soundquality of the Nothing Phone 1 Speakers tenfold. [Non-Root] - Nothing Phone 1

This tuning has been tweaked by my ear with year long experience as a listener to Hi-Fi gear.
My goal was to create a smooth natural sound-response, that minimizes fatigue.
It took me about 5 hours to measure the best result that should compensate most if not all volume levels.
It is supposed to only work with the Nothing Phone 1 to sound as intended.
Resonancy from the ear-piece is more likelier to appear but not concerning, as it is just air causing interference with the grill.

1. Download the App Wavelet from Playstore. Wavelet is free, without battery or privacy concerns and pretty smart.
It knows what device you currently use and switches profiles accordingly.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=wavelet&c=apps
2. Enable legacy mode in Wavelet on the Symbol bottom left and apply all values that you can see in the Screenshot. (Channel balance can be turned off, if you prefer higher volume instead of better Stereo-seperation in Landscape.)

Will check the app out! Cheers

Thanks for sharing that it sounds wayyy better! Been using Wavelet for the last few weeks for headphones but didn't think to play around so much with custom stuff

Wow thank you! It really is like night and day.

Spectacular. Thank you!

What a difference that made. Massive music improvement. Thanks for sharing

This sounds so much better, thanks!

Yes, thanks a lot.

Difference is impressive yes, but it's weird with this settings i have some tracks (music) crackeling, hope it's just saturated frequencies, not push so much the loudspeakers.

Does this only affect sound through the speaker or will the settings affect my bluetooth audio as well?

the crackling you hear is air created by interferences with the grill that stops dust and dirt particles and only appears on the earpiece for me. i'm pretty sure that a damage is highly unlikely to appear by these distortions. the phone even on stock is borderline distorting at max volume.
from my experience this varies heavily on the genre you pick. i tend to have most crackling when listening to male singing or podcast voices but nothing when listening to drum n bass or dubstep tracks for example. i rarely listen at max volume though. it works with all stock ringtones too.
i designed this EQ curve to work with all volume levels but most importantly to be focused around 40% to 70%, because this is the volumerange i mainly listen to when watching youtube or gaming.

Simply brilliant, makes the phone's audio quality up to a great level either to speaker or headphone. Nicely done mates!

Will this work if set once and forgotten, even if the app isn't running in the background?

impressive. This sounds so much better. Nothing has to read this thread and make this equalizer changes part of the firmware, this is such a big improvement

Definitely an improvement!

Brilliant. Thank you!

REVIEW: Nokia Bluetooth Stereo Headphone BH-503

I just received my Nokia Bluetooth Stereo Headphone BH-503 and thought I would share my experience with you all.
Since this is my 4th bluetooth stereo headset I wanted to make sure this headset would sound better and had no connection breakdowns. I hate the clipping and stutter during what supposed to be a happy music moment. So I read allot of reviews of allot of headsets and this one caught my attention. I bought this headset online from www.one2remember.nl and it costs 90 euro's. (in Holland)

It comes with a charger (off course), a manual in 20 languages or so and a handy transport bag. The overall first impression is good. Feels solid compared to the jabra bt620s or the moto ht820.
One of the top things about this headset is that it almost completely covers the ears. As I ride my bike alto in Holland and we have windy weather most of the time I found this headset to isolate you completely from you surrounding. Also the weight of the headset does not trouble me. At first you feel a bit of pressure on your ears but after 5 minutes the only thing reminds you of wearing a headset is the music you will be hearing.
During my test drive I got a call from a friend and to my surprise he actually understood me. As there was wind I didn’t need to stop for him to be able to hear me which is a big fat PLUS!
Another plus point is the charging time. It is full within one hour. And it should last for about 10 hours. (haven’t tested yet as I have it only 3 hours)
The buttons of the headset are completely flat and if you don’t know which button is which it is hard to press the right one. But I guess you just have to get used to it. But this also is a plus since you aren’t most likely to accidental press a button.
Sound quality is great. There is allot of bass to it and the distortion I experienced with other headsets is gone.
Also the bluetooth range is exceptional. The manual says it is able the transfer the music up to 10m but within a 5m range it’s best but when I go outside the 5m range music is good up to 9m. Further than 9m music is going to stutter.
Overall conclusion; It is not the cheapest headset but man I love it!!
Nice review! Though i think a button should not be flat, if you should not press it accidentally it should be hard to push that button .
You are talking about that this is your 4th headset, which are the other 3? It makes a nice comparison.
I hate it when I wear it around my neck (not listening to music) and the collar of my jacket keeps pressing the dial button. So that's why I don't mind having flat buttons.
I've had the motorola ht820, jabra bt620s and the plantronics pulsar 590E.
None of them sounded as clear and loud as the nokia.
I've been using it for the last 1,5 week and it is still the best I've had.
Just lovin it
cool was thinking about getting that one
Hi,
I am thinking of getting BH-503, but nowhere I can find its sensitivity ... is it loud enough?
Thnx
Problem with mic in using HTC Desire with BH 503
I have just purchased BH 503. The problem i faced it that it connects with Phone and Media profiles well. but It seems that Mic is not working. As when I pair the device it shows headset only and not Mic.
Does anybody faced this issue?
Appreciate your kind help in this regard.

Wow a post!

Can you change the volume increment amount?

Now that I have my podcasts syncing, I've started using my TD2 as my primary music player in the gym. Overall, the touchflo music player is fine except the headphones I use are really sensitive so I can't actually adjust the volume LOW enough with the side buttons. It goes from mute to 20% and I need it at like 10-13% with my earbuds.
So is there anyway to change the increment amount that the main HTC Volume control uses? Or maybe just a way to add a shortcut somewhere that changes it to my predetermined desired level?
Right now I'm going into the sound settings and have to very carefully push the volume down by a tiny bit, which is really hard to do without taking out the stylus.

I agree that the volume is to loud.
Strange thing is that with my Touch 3G, which is stolen from me, I had a headphone with volumecontrol and answer button.
With the more expensive Touch Diamond 2 you get a cheaper headphone with no volumecontrol, that sucks.
Good thing is that the headphone with volumecontrol and answer button is for sale, look here: http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/nl/p_htc_item.aspx?i=179247
Or google for: HTC Stereo Headset HS S200 (ExtUSB).

Fortunatly i still have the headphone from my Touch 3G (was not stolen) and I use it and i love it!!
I have no idea whether you can decrease the volume in the software or register.
Sincerely,
Tom.
Did you manage to find a solution to this?
I've just bought the e100 remote control and the volume control buttons change the volume in 3 steps (just like the hardware buttons on the phone.) This gives very little control over the volume and, for me, means that the volume is too loud even at the lowest setting.
no, i haven't found a solution. I don't want to buy HTC headphones because I like to use earbuds that form a seal and block out the ambient noise.
Hi
Would this one be compatible with TD2?
Anyone tried it yet?
JABRA
I have the same problem with to high volume with headphones, I'm going to call HTC tomorrow and see what they have to say about it.
The only answer i got from HTC was to use the Audio Booster to lower the volume a bit.
Audio booster helps to some extent although I still find it a little bit on the loud side.
Even if it did go quiet enough, it still doesn't address the issue that you only get 5 volume increments with the remote.
May be I've got too high of expectations but I was expecting the Diamond2 to replace my ipod as well as my old phone. Only having 5 volume increments on the remote certainly makes it a bit of a step down from a dedicated music player.
You can go to Settings -> Sound and change the volume in 6% increments
Thanks helinus.
To clarify, the issue I have is with using the e100 remote control. It still only allows the volume to be controlled in 20% increments.
Hi.
I had similar problem. My working solution for TF3D player (I did not try the third party players) is:
1. Turn single volume off (better for me, you need not do it).
2. Install 'Advanced Config v3.3', go into 'HTC Audio Manager' section and change value in 'Music Player Volume' key. The best value for my headphones is 30-40 (max. is 100). You decrease with this setting the output sound level.
Now I have at 13% of system volume very comfortable sound level. Every 6% above 13% of system volume gives me relatively smooth boost of sound level.
3. Restart your phone.
Hi,
just try to set your desired volume by touching the slider which appears when you press the vol. up/down button. It's more accurate than the hardware buttons.

@rover wow, i totally didn't realize that slider was touch enabled. Duh!
I also just realized today that the hardware buttons seem to move the volume in smaller increments when music is playing but the screen is turned off. it seems to work only if the volume screen was activated right before hitting the power button. But now I can start the music, turn off the screen, and use the hardware buttons to adjust the volume much more accurately. Not sure why this works.

[Q] DIY controller form headphone jack

Hey i would like to control the volume the song selection (next , previous, pause ) and accept calls from the headphone jack.
I was wondering if it was possible to do all these things from a headphone jack and still pass trough the audio.
If it was possible i would like to control these aspects using a micro controller (attiny 85).
I am aware of some headsets which are capable of doing this so i thought it should be possible, but haven't found much on the subject.
I found an article and a diagram (hack a day) on how to achieve the song selection. But i stil don't know how i would accept and decline calls and control the volume.
I think the accept and decline calls feature would be the same as play pause. Not 100% sure but isn't it play pause on apple headsets that answers calls?

Check out this thread http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii/189523-final-soultion-why-most-headsets-wont-work.html Good luck!
Thx that was really helpful. Now i know that the volume is controlled by the the mic now i just need to know what i have to do there.
For example if i want to pause a song i need to ground the sleeve part ( the gold part of a TRRS headphone connector that is closest to the sleeve ) of the headphone jack. Now i just need to know how i can adjust the volume. Iv been looking on google but as of yet i have been unsuccessful .
Let me just copy and edit that text over here, because their website CSS is quite borked, misisng text......
In all of the following explanations- imagine that the tip of the plug is facing right.
The standard 3.5 mm headphones (no in-line controls on the cable) use the configuration of (from left to right)
TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve). The pin-out for these connections is: Left Audio, Right Audio, Ground.
Connection types for headphones with a mic (and newer ones with volume control) are configured in
TRRS (Tip, Ring, Ring, Sleeve).
On TRRS there are 2 types:
1. The original TRRS configuration was created by Nokia and has a pinout of: Left Audio, Right Audio, Mic, Ground.
2. Apple came along and in typical elitist fashion changed their pinout to: Left Audio, Right Audio, Ground, Mic.
This is why many apple headsets will not work with android, because the last 2 connections, for Mic and Ground are switched. The issue is with the hardware.
The way that songs are skipped (forwards, backwards, and pause) occurs by sending signals down the ground channel (when you tap the button it shoots an electrical signal that the phone will pick up and interpret).
The way that volume is increased/decreased occurs by sending signals down the Mic channel.
This is why- if you try a set of newer iPhone earbuds on the SGS3- as I have- the center button does nothing, but yet the volume up and volume down both pause tracks, and allow you to skip them!!
Additionally, Apple has patents on their TRRS connection- in fact on the resistances (the actual ohm resistance in-line on the controls- not to get scientific or anything

) so that the headphones are designed to work only with Apple products. In other words- you could have a device with the same TRRS Pinout as apple products- but the headset wont work because the resistances (ohms) of the headphones send signals that your phone is not allowed to interpret into the correct actions (since apple patented these)[djdosage]

Fix for how hard the sound sucks

Maybe someone has already posted this; it wouldn't surprise me. I was watching Dexter on my tab a few nights ago, and I said, "Wow, the sound really sucks. Let me turn it up." It was turned up. F***. Somehow, I got the idea to cup my hand around the speaker so that it reflects out to my ears... and it worked. So, I did some experimenting. 30 seconds later, I got it; I found out that if you hold any kind of card over the speaker, that because the speaker itself is on the slightest angle, the card doesn't block the sound, it projects it in another direction. Where the sound used to be low, bassy, and at times incoherent, the volume now gets a slight boost, a decrease in the bass, (and thus) the ability to understand what the hell people are saying.
Let me not talk anymore; I have a feeling people look something like this in reading my post:
So now, I'm going to post a picture of what I did to my tablet, and instead of trying to make sense out of what I'm saying, just try it for yourself. If you like it, agree with me. If you don't like it, don't agree with me! But for me, personally, this nifty little trick (which, by the way, does not get in the way of the folio I have for my tab, but may get in the way of yours) makes viewing a much more tolerable experience than it was before.

So, as you can see, I used electrical tape to secure an old card down to my tablet; it goes over the speaker, and very slightly past the edge of the device.
Again, don't try to understand my explanation, and don't knock it just yet; try it out. Hopefully, you guys get the same result as me, and hopefully, it renews your faith in viewing on your tablet.

The card trick is easy to understand, but it begs the questions:
-- Are you running a stock ROM
-- ICS or JB
-- Have you tried any of the generic Android volume boosters like Volume+?
I don't have any volume issues with my TF300T. I've got Power Amp (unlocked) installed as my music player and it uses Direct Volume Control 2.3+, though I'm unsure if this effects volume of videos from the web. Anyone? I'm also running seanzscreams Hydro 4.1 rom and I forget if he did any volume boosting--it would not be out of character for him to have done so.
What I want is the usb adio that Jelly Bean is supposed to support.

I am unlocked and rooted, running ICS, and I think that makes it a stock ROM, right? Sorry, I'm kind of a moron when it comes to stuff other than the simple. I probably couldn't even root this thing again if I tried.
And for your other question, I've never tried any volume boosting apps; it never even occurred to me to search for that kind of thing. If you didn't tell me about their existence, I would have written it off as being as ridiculous as searching for a vibration function on the Android Market I'll go try one out now. This isn't a messy option or anything but it's certainly not ideal. lol

Note 20 Ultra + two JBL Charge 4 sound distortions, cracking sound

Anyone else have the same setup and have sound problems?
I can connect to 1 speaker without getting cracking sound, but as soon as I connect the second speaker, distortions and cracking sound begins. Tried factory reset speakers, also tried switching main speaker, party mode and stereo mode, same results =/
Its Note 20 Ultra related, cause our Galaxy S20 or Tab S6 do not create this sound error when they connect to the same JBL Speakers.

Connections>Bluetooth>Advanced
Play with the settings there.
I don't know if it can solve the issue, but if it's Bluetooth connected, you can first try to disable absolute volume in the developer settings.
For it to work a reboot of the phone may be needed.
It basically makes the volume control of the Bluetooth devices independent of the phone's one, but oddly enough it changes the sound quality for the better on my side, and I've read it can solve some issues.
Sounds like bandwidth problems.
Might be the n20u is struggling to keep the data rate up.

Check in developer options, there are a load of BT settings you can change in there, including AVRCP, my JBL earphones use AVRCP 1.5 (1.4 set as default) also the codec used can be change, bits per sample etc

Yeah. Today I tried connecting both speakers at same time with its own bluetooth connection to the phone, and it worked flawlessly. But when I use dual Bluetooth from phone, I dont get the speakers in Stereo mode, so it looses the entire point of having two of these JBL speakers. When I connect to one speaker and have the audio link to the next speaker with JBL connect, the interfernence, cracking noise starts at once. Almost like its loosing connection. And it doesnt matter if its close or 10 meters from speakers. Also tried disconnecting my SmartWatch from phone, disabled Wifi, mobile data and lots of stuff.

Check in developer options, there are a load of BT settings you can change in there, including AVRCP, my JBL earphones use AVRCP 1.5 (1.4 set as default) also the codec used can be change, bits per sample etc

Just 2 toggles on my version. Try toggling them.
Easy voodoo fix if it works...
Samsung has had a lot of issues with these screwing up bt sound on Buds. One of the latest Wearables updates finally fixed it I think after over 2 years.
