Just flash stock 1.0.1 boot and then try to install the update ?

Delete

Boot means you are just booting from it, there is no way u can install updates with that u have to flash the boot but not sure if 1.0.2 boot works with your 1.0.1 rom but you can try fastboot flash boot stock 1.0.2 or what ever the file name is for you

Think I was doing that anyway will it be best to uninstall magisk fully first then flash the stock boot and then try

fmotta61 said:
Solved by rebooting to bootloader, flashed stock boot image, rebooted.
Installed OTA.
Reboot to bootloader.
fastboot boot magiskpatched.img (or what is called). Attention: boot not flash.
Reboot and start Magisk, direct installation, reboot and voila.
Other method do not work because presumably you flashed magiskpatched.img directly and due to this Magisk cannot restore automatically boot image.

You can try to do it this way. Worked for me from 1,1,0 to 1.1.2

Help!!!my nexus can't boot after upgrade

Hi. I used the baked goods 1.1 rom and I tried to make an upgrade to CM 5.0.5.2 via ROM manager (market application) which uses the clockwordmod recovery image. Since then I can't boot on nexus!!I can boot into fastboot and recovery but not in menu!I changed the recovery image with amon-RA's, I tried to recover it via Nandroid backup (i had one) nothing.I can load anything (recovery image, roms) correctly but after reboot it stucks on splash screen...Please tell me that I didn't brick it
EDIT:Thank god solved! i have to flash the cm 5.0.5 first not directly the 5.0.5.2
Exactly, it's a known issue that's been said in tons of posts.
Glad you solved it.

[Q] [i9023] Recovery reverts to stock on reboot. [SOLVED]

Whenever i reboot my phone the recovery partition is reverted to stock. Is this a known issue or am i doing something wrong.
I've been through the instructions, fastboot oem unlock worked perfectly. flashing the recovery image seems to work perfectly and persists until the phone is rebooted. This also means that using clockwork manager to upgrade rom fails.
If you want the custom recovery to remain permanently, you'll need to rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to something thing else ... eg install-recovery.backup .. After you have done that flash recovery again and you will see that it will stick this time

It will indeed automatically reflash the stock recovery on reboot. In order to prevent this, you can either flash the recovery img every time you want to get in, or, follow the following steps for a permanent fix. Phone has to be rooted.
Boot your phone and use "Root Explorer" to navigate here:
root/etc/install-recovery.sh
Rename that file to whatever, for example name it install-recovery_bak.sh.
Exit and reboot into recovery and it should work.

[Q] Recovering... recovery, after Lollipop official image installation

Hello everyone!
I used to have TWRP 2.8 and a custom rom installed on my Nexus 4. After the official Lollipop image came out, I installed it and everything works fine, except the fact that there seems to be no recovery at all. When I try to enter recovery and the phone reboots, I get the green-robot-error image. While installing the Lollipop image, I read the messages and it said that boot.sig and recovery.sig were not found. I tried installing TWRP over again, but nothing changed. Everything else works fine on the phone, fastboot, Lollipop, I even rooted with no problems. How do I properly reinstall TWRP on my device, without getting the green robot of death icon?
I have same problem, the OS reinstall default recovery every reboot, if you install TWRP via fastboot mode and directly reboot into TWRP recovery mode is there and it works, but after reboot to systen it's gone.

I advise you to read more in future to keep yourself away from such troubles.
Installing a Factory Image sends your device back to completely stock, this includes all the partitions, i.e System, Data, Cache, Recovery. Just think of it resembling the newly bought device. The Red icon means you now have the stock recovery installed. You now need to Install the custom recovery (TWRP) again.
Download TWRP Recovery Image: Click here
Power Off Nexus 4
Boot into Bootloader/Fastboot mode. Press VolDown + Power buttons altogether to reboot into bootloader mode.
Connect the device to the PC via USB data cable
Open a new CMD window
"cd" the command line window to the location of the downloaded image and enter the following command thereafter:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-mako.img
And you'll be able to boot into recovery mode.

For rooting, I used the file and the guide in the following thread, it doesn't require recovery, just fastboot mode.

Just Install a Custom Kernel with modified ramdisk. Install Hellscore kernel and then install SuperSU. You will be able to experience Root.
I think unleashed kernel has also been updated with the same, but I can only confirm it with Hellscore.
It's the new bootloader. Flash an older bootloader version, reboot the bootloader, then flash TWRP again and it will stick.

It is weird. I am pretty much sure you're either missing something or using a corrupted img file. Confirm that the file has been downloaded completely by verifying the md5 checksum and I am sure it will mismatch

In that case, could it mean that TWRP could probably release an update based on the new bootloader that would solve the issue?

It is not the bootloader, I already achieved that TWRP left there and not deleted, these are the steps to Reproduce.
Download the latest TWRP 2.8.1
restart in bootloader mode
fastboot flash recovery twrp-recover.zip
After the fast boot menu select to boot into recovery and went to boot the TWRP.
Go to Mount ands mount system partition
The go to TWRP file manager and rename the file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.bak
And ready the recovery.
To root I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/orig-development/n4-cf-auto-root-t2025274
Work fine in L.

It is the bootloader. I had the exact same thing happen to me. The only thing I did was flash the last bootloader released before lollipop (30d, i think?) and reflashed twrp, and it stuck. I tried several times reflashing before I rolled back to the legacy bootloader and every time I rebooted the stock recovery was reinstalled. Now you tell me, if the only thing I changed was the bootloader, then reflashed twrp and it worked, how is it not the new bootloader?

Not the boot loader because I have the new bootloader that came with L and TWRP working perfectly, so both can coexist.
The problem comes from within the rom as I said, the file is in /system/etc/install-recovery.sh is responsible to clear the custom recovery and return to default android recovery. The solution is to remove (or rename) that file, what I saw is that the TWRP and SuperSU (both try to) can not rename it, and the solution was to rename it manually from the file manager included in the TWRP (mounting /system as explained before).
The same problem to can not overwrite files (should be modified in any command in library ) prevents install from a flashable zip SuperSU, so the solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexu...- root-t2025274 initiating its own operating system booting own image solves the problem that can not be overwritten (or modified) files from the TWRP (at least until a specified version for L see the light).
Probably whoever the new bootloader prevents TWRP modify files in /system, but bootloader not erases the custom recovery. Surely people of TWRP is working to fix this issue (or sleeping sometimes you have to sleep) but the problem can be solved by keeping the new booloader.
Conclucion, I have stock L Last bootloader, root and TWRP everything working perfectly and hellsCore Kernel

I did install supersu and it was successful but the issue is that when i use root checker it still shows my phone is not rooted and also when i open supersu app it says "supersu binaries are not installed....". Any suggestion?
you installed via the SuperSU binaries from flashable zip in TWRP or use the method http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/orig-development/n4-cf-auto-root-t2025274 ?
With the CF-auto-root you should have no problems, I did so and I read that many people do so, use this method to root.
On the other hand, I was thinking that having a recovery that can not flash zip is not something useful

Phone only boots into TWRP

I decided today to try and root my phone and followed the steps on this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/nexus-4-guide-unlock-bootloader-root-t2266654
I had unlocked my phone and installed the latest version of TWRP. Now I can only boot into TWRP and bootloader. My phone is not being picked up by my PC. I tried a factory reset and format of data on TWRP but my phone still only boots into TWRP.
Is my phone permanently bricked?
Any help will be greatly appreciated
I actually have just made some progress now. I've managed to get the phone connected to the computer by going into ADB sideload and installing the ADB drivers again on my computer.
Typing ADB devices in CMD now shows my device as connected.
Any advice on what I should do now?
What happens when you try to boot it normally? Is it stuck at the boot animation or does it go directly to the bootloader or recovery? Since you already had to wipe everything you could try flashing a factory image via fastboot.

Booting the phone normally loads it into TWRP. Booting the phone with the volume key pressed down loads the bootloader. I think I may have just wiped the OS present on the Phone.
I want my phone to be rooted running CyanogenMOD (phone is currently unrooted). Should I first install a stock rom then root by installing SuperSU and CyanogenMOD or can I just skip installing a stock rom and install SuperSU and CyanogenMOD?
Thanks for the help
You could try flashing a cyanogenmod zip from TWRP, and if that doesn't work I would suggest flashing I factory image.

@hwweiler, No friend there is no other way. Please before do this as is one direction way take the pain to look on my post #180 on zaclmon's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/orig-development/wip-aosp-7-0-nougat-t3448444/page18 and keep in mind that is impossible to return back on any nandroid backup u kept e.g to 5.1.1 or M furthermore its also impossible to flash any rom zip if u use this N (WIP) rom,the only way to have a workable phone again is to flash the stock rom from scratch.Exceperienced with and never again untill we have the appropriate solution..The twrp used and i still use on M is TWRP 3.0.2.0.The possibility to return on LP ffrom M and reverse still exists but not when u flash this rom.

Zenfone 2 ZE551ML not booting up

Please help, I've made the mistake of applying the marshmallow update file, while using the TWRP recovery. It was stuck on writing splashscreen, for around 2hrs. I thought about restarting the device to restore a previous backup image. That is when the screen turned off for good. No matter what i tried, I could not boot into recovery, or even fastboot. I've tried the key combinations, adb, but nothing seems to bring this up to life. Please tell me how to flash the stock zip, I don't care about the data in the phone at this point.
