[Q] New to smarphone, Android, tech-savvy community

Hope I'm posting it in the right section.
Well, recently I've bought a S4 I9505 and I'm trying to understand all about it, including terms and features related to the OS and the device itself.
Looks like I've joined a new world and I don't know anything about it. I would like to own my phone, and I found that I could do that by rooting. Since I've noticed it, I've made some researches, but it didn't help me to clarify my mind and I still do have a lot of questions. I've heard about the KNOX and if I root it i could possibly trigger it. I've found some articles regarding how to root it w/o triggering the KNOX, but in most of these articles there are some users saying it didn't work for their phones and it's triggered now. So, the question is, is there anyway of rooting it with no chances of violating the KNOX?
What do you recommend for new smartphone users to know and learn about to become their android devices' master?
Thanks in advance.
Read everything twice....and flash once.
Does anybody have an advice? Thanks.

Hmmm.. you have joined by the wrong phone (samsung) in the wrong (KNOX) time.
In the past, Sammy was giving the silent permission to do with the phone what you wanted to. nowadays, we have the Knox (in the recent bootloaders/ROMS incapable to downgrade).
Well, first step would be rooting. BUT, you have the choice between the Knox violation, privacy violation (kingo root) or not to root.
Read all of it. It may take more than one day. Make your choice WISE.
As the old Romans said: "Quidquid agis, prudenter agas and respice finem" what in free translation would be:
Whatever you want to do, do wisely, and face the consequences.
Good luck.

[Q] root/custom rom any issues ?

Hello xda ...i have got my s5 for about 3 weeks and i was afraid of rooting it (i had htc one x and s3 root before ) but for this one i want to know what are the pros and cons of rooting and flash a custom room
I m losing something like knox secure (i don't know what is that )) ) or some other privileges ?
Will affect my phone somehow ?
I would like to do that just to get rid of these ****ed up apps from stock rom
Also I got only 5 h screen time on and I think it s pretty sucks. .
Sure, root will let you do a lot of things that you cannot do without root. Downside? Well it's a lot easier to mess your system up if you recklessly muck around as a privileged user. And some root methods may increment the Knox flag which may affect your ability to make a warranty claim in some countries.
And 5 hours of screen time is a vague, almost without meaning datum. One needs a context such as your overall run time and usage in addition to screen time to know if your configuration is power efficient or not. 5 hours of screen time might be spectacularly good in some contexts. We don't know because you neglected to give us any details whatsoever about your usage.
In any case, you'd learn a lot more and have more in depth answers to your questions if tried a search before posting. These questions have been asked and answered innumerable times, so there is a wealth of information in existing threads.

Actually I don't have any warranty for my phone I bought it from someone at a lower price ...so if I root it should not affect me with something

Is the S5 really that difficult to root?

From trying to educate myself on rooting my S5, I feel like it is much more difficult than older phones. So many different versions of the phone and each one seems to have a different set of instructions...I want to slap a nice, fast, light rom onto it, but damn. I'm intimidated.

No, it isn't. In fact it's one of the easier phones to root. You would know that if you had read even a handful of threads.
Simply reading half a dozen sticky threads and a tutorial or two would answer most of your questions. Your questions have been asked and answered countless times in existing threads too. So a search would provide you with even more targeted answers. There is nothing hard or very intimidating at all unless you refuse to read a few threads. If you don't want to do that, then ask a personal friend to root your phone. Or pay a cellular shop to do so.

Finally someone gets it.
For the sake of clarity it should be said that it is hard to root S5 with a recent firmware without tripping Knox.

Also, I can't root my S5 because the kernel is too new (and the model doesn't have an older one). Seemed to be a lot easier with my S4 ages ago.
..
^^^ What he said.
Easy peasy.
Old HTC's used to rely on witchcraft..... dark rituals and moon phases.
The S5 truly is easy peasy. It's just a bit daunting tweaking your state of the art 500 quid technical masterpiece. What's the worst that can happen......?
sent from my Nokia 3310.!!!

What is your phones model? After this question i can tell you ways you can fix your battery consumption and is your phone rooted or not. And concerning the malware you can try downloading any anti vrius and/or malware apps from playstore and give them a try
