Part 1: Summary (OPPO Find X5 Product Review from the Land Down Under) - OPPO Find X5 Pro General

Recently there was a thread started here on the XDA Forums around “Where are the real life reviews?” and it got me thinking about my review for the OPPO Find X5, as I’m not an experienced tech reviewer, I don’t have millions of followers on YouTube, and I certainly don’t make a living from reviewing tech.
In real life, I enjoy Smart Phone technology, and manage all of my online presence (including my twitter (more than 181,000 tweets so far), Instagram and LinkedIn accounts), directly from my Smart Phone.
For the past couple of weeks, my SIM Card has been inserted into a new OPPO Find X5 (Black, 256GB on-board storage, 8GB RAM, and Model CPH2037), which I received from OPPO (thank you for the OPPOrtunity!), as one of their 20 global OPPO Product Ambassadors. It has become my daily driver, and replaces my previous OPPO Find X3 Pro. The following are my views and opinion only.
To start off with, my thoughts as an OPPO Product Ambassador can be read here.
For this review, I’m not going to go deep with all of the technical specifications for the OPPO Find X5, as this has been already done many times… but if you’re interested, please go HERE (thanks OPPO!)
Firstly the Australian price and some of its competitors (based on what is readily available in the Land Down Under):
OPPO Find X3 Pro is on runout at $1,499 *
OPPO Find X5 is on pre-sale (Australian release date is April 19, 2022) at AUD $1,399
Samsung S22 at AUD $1,349 ^
Google Pixel 6 Pro at AUD $1,249 *
* I purchased and used this device
^ I have not purchased, or used, this device
My OPPO Find X5 runs the Snapdragon 888, 2021’s Qualcomm Flagship Chip, paired with 8GB RAM, and is the same as my Find X3 Pro (but with 12GB RAM).
I’ve broken down my OPPO Find X5 Product Review into shorter sections, which makes it either easier to read everything, or perhaps you may just jump to the topics that are important to you:
Summary (you are here)
Build Quality and Design, and Overall Performance
Camera Performance and Other Performance Features
Best ColorOS Features and Battery Review
Conclusion
For my original Unboxing and First Impressions of the OPPO Find X5, please read HERE.
Thank you for taking the time to read my Real Life Product Review of the OPPO Find X5. I welcome any questions you may have (noting I'm not an experience Tech Reviewer), and if I cannot answer them, I will seek the answer from either another OPPO Product Ambassador, or from the OPPO Team.

Wich Smartwatch to buy in 2018?

Hello my Friends,
i am want to buy an smartwatch. My maximum Price is 350€ (or round about 400 Dollars).
I dont now wich one i should buy. I want an large, round (!) OLED Display, good Hardware, Google Assistant and circa one day runtime. IP68 (or better) and ROM possibility would be very nice but it is not necessery. I want an Android Wear/Wear OS (2.0) Watch, no Tizen (i have a old V700 and i haved learned to hate Samsungs own Apps and OS, sorry about that, but i am a "Googleguy" ). Okay if you think Tizen is much better than Wear OS then let me now and why. We can talk about everythink. I have looked much on the internet, The Ticwatch Pro is my first choise, but eventually you have a better one? Let me know what you think is the best Smartwatch to buy in 2018. Greets from Germany and sorry for my bad Englisch.
I just got the Ticwatch Pro and am enjoying it so much. The only issue I could find is ROM support, since it doesn't look like a popular choice (yet).
I also just got the TicWatch Pro. Right now it's an Amazon PRIME exclusive and I believe sometime next month it's generally available to any Amazon user. It's only been available for a week or so, so hopefully we'll see some development for it in the coming weeks/months.

Lenovo z6 pro help with rom

well as many , i bought this from lenovo supposed official store on aliexpress and with a so called global rom
upon receipt i found that this version is a dissapointment in games while i expected 855 to run as expected 270k on antutu shows me that something is wrong with this , the rom is obviously a hacked hybrid rom with no rom upgrade capability ota. and i know this as i saw the chinese rom upgrade to july release.
the rom is here https://boycracked.com/2019/06/27/official-lenovo-z6-pro-l78051-stock-rom/
In the same boat here; Antutu is about 100k short of the norm, 3D mark scores (OpenGL especially) just as bad or worse.
I found enabling "Force GPU rendering" and especialy "Disable HW overlays" in Developer options an improvement. But this rom needs updates.
The Chinese rom has had a bunch of updates, reportedly fixing lots of bugs, improving camera quality and performance.
I'm waiting to hear back from the AliExpress 'official' Lenovo store if there will be official OTA updates for this phone. That's what they advertised with, so they can expect a dispute when they come up empty.
May be it's need open Lenozo Z6 forum, it seems that many people buy it and need forum to discuss about it

I agree with You. Lenovo z6 pro will need dedicated subforum.
For now i have seen 2 rom upgrade tutorials global and chinese version. As well as some issues reported like: notifications not working properly due to battery optimization issues. We need this subforum to make discussion possible.
So, how do we get a dedicated Z6 Pro subforum?
I think we need write to moderators xda
Hi guys,
I am considering buying this phone as it's the cheapest SD855 phone right now.
Just a few questions,
1. Is the global ROM an "official" Lenovo Z6 Pro Global ROM or it's only a rooted device running a stock-ish looking Android like Motorola?
2. In Aliexpress, there is a seller called "Lenovo Aliexpress Store"
https://lenovotech.aliexpress.com/store/5015097?spm=a2g0o.detail.100005.1.17ed620exNtnAc
- is this the "official" Lenovo store in Aliexpress?
3. I'm reading complaints about Global ROM having lower antutu benchmark scores but in real-life usage, is the performance like a midrange device (laggy, delay response when opening apps, etc).
I hope someone can help me decide if i should give it a go.
P.S. I bought the Motorola P30 (ZUI-based) from Aliexpress last year and in all honesty, ZUI s*cks.
There are too many bugs like
1. Special access to apps (accessibility, draw over apps), you NEED to give access every.single.time you open the app. ZUI will DISABLE access once you exit or turn off your phone!
2. Notifications will NOT work on 3rd party apps (even if you disabled battery optimizations, allowed notification per app etc).
3. Problem changing wallpaper of your 3rd party launcher (ex Nova launcher).
4. You can only watch 360p videos on Facebook
5. You can only upload 360p videos on Instagram stories
4&5 -- means, all the videos you watch on Facebook/Instagram are PIXELATED.
Too many bugs that I have decided to give it to my mom.
Regret buying this so called global version of Z6 Pro, with 8gb ram from a dodgy official seller on AliExpress as the purchase invoice that I received is from an unknown reseller.
Well this Z6 Pro unit has visible chromatic aberration on screen and warm tone which cannot be corrected from display options, FHD videos are not sharp or realistically 1080p enough. Has third class cheap user interface, 3D rendering is also jurky.
There are lots of other issues and bugs in it. To summarize I think ROM requires a major overhaul and the features that Lenovo marketed are not at all of any flagship handset but of a midranger.
If only Lenovo will just stop customizing their software and leave it as stock a la Motorola, at least for their global ROM.
Mainland Chinese consumers are different from the rest and i get that ZUI is important.
The bugs are due to ZUI not compliant to Google Services.
Anyway, I still think Lenovo Z6 Pro is a good buy among all other SD855 devices just because it's the cheapest.
And take note, you CAN install GCam apk with the device and the quality is comparable to a Pixel 3.
I do own a Z6 Pro (official Firmware): it is nice (if you can use the english firmware), but you have to configure and personalize a lot and even then it is not comparable with other (more known) Smartphone brands. Launcher und UI is different. Battery and & Display is very nice. If you rely on WhatsApp/Telegram or other Push services: simply don't buy it.
AnTuTu is 359528, latest firmware is 11.0.575
My review (in German): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uThSfE9riv8
I also own a Lenovo Z6 Pro aqcuired from from Lenovo official store (aliexpress /store/900160001) With so called Global ROM (11.0.211 ST). No OTAs after arrival, around 2 weeks ago.
It punctuates low on Antutu (~278k) because of GPU problems, but quite high on Geekbench (3.5k single, 10.5k multi).
Doesn't seem laggy to me.
I don't have problems with notifications on Whatsapp or Telegram.
Photos are quite good in rear camera, and good to average with tele and wide-angle. Don't use front camera, can't tell.
To get EIS on videos taken with main camera I use Google Photos.
To make rear camera great instead of very good I use arnova8g2 's Gcam 6.2.030 advanced mod.
I've claimed a dispute with AliExpress over the global Z6 Pro from the 'official' AliExpress Lenovo store. I'm offered a €70,- refund, or the option to return the phone for free for a full refund.
I'm not sure what to do. I like the phone, but if it wont be updated from the current 11.0.211, or gains any community mod support, I'd rather return it.
What would you guys do?
Regards,
Marc

Sorry if this was answered in your review, but you are running official Chinese firmware which has an English language option? Were you able to install google play store?
Just watched your review, very informative I must say. I wish I had opted for the Chinese version, as that seems to work just fine in your review. English language suits me nicely, and installing Play store seemed quite straightforward in your review.
Anyone know of a way to install an official chinese rom on our global versions? Because that would make my Z6 Pro a lot more desirable.
To answer my own question; I found the below thread on how to flash an official chinese Lenovo rom on our Global Z6 Pro's.
I'm away from home for another week, but will hang on to my Z6 Pro for a bit to see how I like it with the Chinese rom and manually added Google Play store.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/rom-lenovo-z6-pro-l78051-qpst-edl-t3947149
the Chinese rom is arguably better than the global hacked so I do not advise buying the device with the global rom. you can install the play store and everything works correctly.
Below is a short video of the mobile phone's desktop and setup.

Yes no sound for WhatsApp and I use the phone app to make calls.
Same issue here. Chinese rom, amazing performance, but no notification sound for Whatsapp. And sometimes i have to open Whatsapp to receive messages, even with the app locked (configured in Security). If someone has the original global rom please share with us.
guys, who have 11.0.211st pseudo global version, do not update it to 11.0.257st, it brings lots of troubles. The navigation buttons work wrong, the cellular connection is unstable. All that makes the phone as a tool tp crack the nuts. I do not know how to downgrade the firmware back to 211, because Lenovo does not give the firmware.
All pushes in whatsapp and other apps fixed, if you have root and installed microG (use signature spoofing with magisk module) instead of preinstalled Gapps. I install it, set doze mode for whatsapp, send message after 1 hour of sleeping phone and message successfully showed.

Current head unit models

Hi all,
Could you please recommend me a head unit? Something modern, well-specced, and good quality. My google-fu has revealed plenty of comparisons of Android Auto-capable head units (whichi don't run android) or just pages such as aliexpress - many of those models are years old now and it's next to impossible to know whether they're any good.
Looking through this forum doesn't really seem to help unless I know what to look for, it's mainly all model- or ROM-specific. A sticky'd list of head units with a comparison of features would be great, if it exists. If it doesn't exist, I'd be happy to start putting one together :good: Could be really handy for newcomers
Is there a place out there keeping their finger on the pulse of new releases in this space that I can take a look at?
Thanks
As your Googling revealed things change fast and new models come out as part supplies change so a sticky wouldn't be good for much except maybe a historical record. There's no one place I know of that keeps track of what's coming down the pipes apart from sites like XDA, 4PDA and some car enthusiast sites where someone happens to spot something and reports it. I found info on new units before they were released by visiting the manufacturer's site or their store on Aliexpress (usually has official store in the name).
As far as recommending anything I think it's too much of a personal choice that depends on too many factors to do. I'll just start by saying if you're looking for good quality stick with the name brands. All these Chinese units have issues with assembly and software if you're willing to play you can have lots of fun with them fixing things and modifying. Some are better built than others, the sub $100 MTK units are not comparable to the PX6 at 3x the price but that doesn't stop either from suddenly dying from poor quality components or soldering. Also Google has a habit of messing things up with their service updates.
What you get with these HU is a custom fit and features you won't find on any other HU. The things to look for is at least 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage for a basic low cost unit. What you really want is 4GB/32GB Rockchip SoC with an MTC MCU. You get a 64bit multi core processor with lots of RAM and an MCU that has better support from the manufacturers and the community.
The official Android auto works with a limited number of phones. There is an unleashed version as well as other apps with similar function. Many of the Android HU have the ability to do the same thing and also can work with Carplay (may need a dongle). Screen mirroring has its issues. Personally I think you're better off to have your phone provide an internet connection and bluetooth handle the communications.

OPPO Ambassador for the UK (England)

Hi you will have already seem some of these posts, but hopefully mine is a bit different.
I am Glenn aka Lennyuk, I have been around on XDA for a long long time now and used to be heavily involved in the custom rom world. I have been with android since (almost) the very beginning and have owned devices from all the big name players and several of the smaller ones.
By day I am a lawyer but I am also a father, husband, geek, gamer and tech enthusiast. Much to the annoyance of my wife, smart devices are a huge part of my life and I am seeking to use my knowledge, and experience with these devices to share my views on OPPO's products, like I have done previously for other companies in similar programmes and as a copywriter for various tech websites (as a hobby).
Here is a video exploring more about what I think the Ambassador programme will mean, what makes OPPO tick, what's to come from me in the next few weeks and a run down of the key specs of the Find X5 Pro.
If there is anything in particular you want me to look into, do or add to my content then please let me know and I will see what I can do.
Thanks. Hopefully you'll be able to confirm if the UK FX5P will have call recording as standard?

Considering Oppo Find X5 Pro in Australia

I was set on purchasing the Oppo Find X5 Pro. However, I live in Australia and I am worried about updates and bloatware. How has everyone's experience been with Oppo phones in Australia?

Hi mate,
I have used the OPPO Reno 5G, OPPO Find X2 Pro, the OPPO Find X3 Pro and now using the OPPO Find X5, all I. Australia.
All devices received regular updates, but we're slower in receiving them against say the Pixel range, but quicker than the Motorola range.
As for bloatware, some of the bloatware was not present on my Find X5 as it was in the European versions, and some of the extra apps are quite handy to have (smart sidebar, screen recording and screen shots, floating windows, split screen, Quick launch).
Hope this helps, and good luck with your new OPPO Find X5 Pro.
Thomas

Hi Edward561,
What was the issue you were concerned about? I thought I answered the author's concerns, based in my experiences with the Find X5 I'm using right now in Australia.
Thank you.
Thomas
I currently have an X5 Pro from Telstra can't unlock bootloader can't update to android 13 currently arguing with Oppo developers
So just keep that in mind if that what you were looking for to do
