[Solved] Most Stable rom for Mi A1 Tissot and some other relevant questions. - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Its been a long time since I last rommed any phone. Last Was my beloved 'Bacon' (Oneplus One) which I rommed till it died.
I am trying to install a custom rom on my wife's Mi A1. Have a few questions.
Which is the most stable rom (Android 11 preferred but if android 11 isn't stable then android 10 will do). Trying to replace the boring stock rom with some much needed features. but don't need a super tweaked up rom. Stability is most important. : edit: installed lineage 18.1.
Can I directly flash TWRP 3.6.0_9-0-tissot over stock? As with Bacon, I needed to flash One recovery then another to get a version jump. like I cant directly flash twrp 3.x over stock. I needed to flash TWRP 2.xy and then 3.0. (example, not real version numbers.)
I don't need root. But I do need the device to pass SafetyNet as I need it to operate apps like Gpay (which does not work if device fails SafetyNet).
Can I re lock the bootloader after flashing TWRP? Would it help with SafetyNet situation?
OpenGapps still good?

1. There are plenty of stable roms, you can look at Xiaomi Mi A1 ROMs section to check them.
2. You can directly flash TWRP on stock rom.
3. ?
4. No
5. I use roms with pre-installed GApps for stablity.

Questions about ROMs from an Android noob

I'll get to the point:
1) What is currently the best ROM for stability, performance and battery life?
2) From the research I've done myself, Pixel Experience seems to be the best for that, but is 9.0 stable enough to be used as a daily driver or should I stick with 8.1?
3) Do ROMs get OTA updates? As in, if theres a new version of Pixel Experience for example, I can get the update just like any stock update? Would I lose root?
4) If I wanted to go back to stock and start completely from scratch (no root and stuff), all I would need to do is flash a stock image with Mi Flash Tools, right?
5) What is slot A and slot B? Do they matter when I flash a ROM?
6) What permanent TWRP Recovery should I use for ROMs? ComicDan's seems to be the only one for 8.1 that is permanent, but I dont wanna mess with Treble. It also seems that his TWRP cant flash Lineage-based ROMs, but I dont care about Lineage so thats a non-issue
Thanks

1. It's all about your preferences, preferably go with official roms.
2. Same answer as 1.
3. Only official builds get ota updates, with unofficial builds you have to flash the "ota" via twrp (besides lineage os, unofficial builds also get ota).
4. Correct, you can't restore using twrp because stock image/data are encrypted, you'll end up in a boot loop (found that the hard way ).
5. They do matter, follow the instructions and ONLY the instructions say. Idk what they mean, but newer devices have them.
6. Depending on the rom (from my knowledge), you have to install twrp installer zip everytime you flash a rom.
Hope I cleared that up for you.
I'm on stock 8.1 by the way. I used to use liquid remix 10.
If you ask me what's my favourite rom(s), here is my list in order :
1. Lineage os
2. Pixel experience
3. Dot os
4. Resurrection Remix
When I am flashing any 9.0 custom rom, it installs properly but always there are two camera apps both of which do not work and when I call or receive call the volte icon in status bar disappears and the call drops. The same roms when flashed on my friends mi A1 they work fine. I am not able to understand what the problem is. I have already tried clean flashing stock rom with flashtool. Also Camera was not working in 8.1 custom roms.

Which ROM are u flashing exactly? Are you using stock gapps? Stock gapps seem to mess with camera provided by ROM. So try lower version preferbly micro/nano/pico..

1. I dont really know but rn I use liquid remix and it checks all those boxes
2. If you hear the rom is stable it means its stable. No matter the android version. I use liquid remix and its pretty stable and I think pixel experience is even stabler
3. Some roms offer ota through a button in the phone. But most of the roms you will need to reflash the new update through twrp
4. Yes. I don't know what the other guy was talking about but I did that multiple times and it worked fine
5. Not really
6. Use it. Its treble compatible but you dont require to have treble to use it (and again I dont know what the other guy is talking about. Cosmicdan twrp reinstalls itself)

problem Xiaomi mi a1 with android pie, impossible to have permanent TWRP with treble

hi to all of you guys, I have a Xiaomi mi a1 with android pie, patch of January, I have a serious problem I can't get the TWRP cosmicdan with treble support without installing magisk, so without root, I would like to install a sGSI but having this problem I can not go further, I did everything possible, I followed the procedure to the letter to have it permanent but I can not.
is there any way to not have this problem?
If stock is your issue, flash a custom ROM first, cosmic twrp works fine with them, then switch to treble. I'm not sure but I think their is a hot bootable version of cosmic twrp too, may try this with stock.

so do i have to do the procedure to get a sGSI Pie but with a custom rom instead of android stock?
You can try to only boot the twrp first to treblize your device.
I linked the file for you.

Trouble upgrading from Android 6 - Xiaomi.eu - MIUI 10

My Redmi 4 Prime is still running great as my backup phone, and I've loaned it to a few friends when they were phoneless too.
It has Xiaomi.eu Android 6 MIUI 10 ROM and TWRP 3.0.2 installed.
I downloaded and tried to flash Havoc OS for Android 9 and 10 but neither was able to be installed. So I loaded up the Xiaomi.eu ROM again and it went on perfectly with Magisk too.
Is there something I need to do so that I can install a newer ROM. I remember upgrading another phone and I had to install some Firmware before I could install Pie. Or do I just need to upgrade TWRP?
I had a look through this forum but couldn't see anything like that mentioned.
Thanks if you can help
you have to install an upgraded twrp. I'm using orangefox TWRP (search for orangefox markw) and I have installed a ported miui12 rom with android 9. Working well:

sm-t585 help of install gsi and android 11 gsi

hello, as title say i've got the tab a 10.1 2016 , lte version. i would like to install lineageos 18 (android 11) on this device, because it still work good and overall performance it's still good (not with the stock one, very slow). i tried this with twrp 3.5.0 (latest version), it flashes the img file, but it wont run and goes bootloop. then i flashed the modified twrp 3.2.3 for treble, flashed the treble.zip and the img file of lineageos (i seeked for a-only and 64bit version), but it ends in bootloop. so what's wrong with it? i noticed that only lineageos 16 gsi or other 9.0 roms run fine, going on android 10 gsi it wont be recognized. there's a way to get the android 11 gsi working on this device? it should be compatible, as from oreo it should be supported with treble project.
Hi. I am new to flashing but is it possible you have to upgrade the bootloader first in order to be able to upgrade to lineageOS 18 (android 11)? Just according to my understanding from that thread. if you have older bootloader then it wont work. But i am new so i might be wrong and totally off
i think that it doesn't depend on the bootloader, but the recovery hasn't been updated anymore by the developer. he might have lost interest in the device, so that stopped building roms too. the tablet was not that bad, but for my experience, too much slow and the battery didn't last so much. for these reasons i gave up and ended in selling it, replaced with the sm-t500 (tab a7 2020). waaay better tablet, now waiting for someone who unlocks this little beast and builds a custom recovery or rom.

Flash OOS and custom Kernel after flashing other roms via custom recovery?

Hi,
I'm testing roms and kernels for my Oneplus 8 Pro and since I'm still not happy with battery life, I was thinking of going back to stock Oxygen OS (Android 11) but install custom kernel (bluspark?) or xXx mod.
Can I just flash it via adb sideload via custom recovery or I have to relock bootloader and do something else?
If just flashing stock OOS image is enough, which one should I use?
Thanks!

Use msmtool, then unlock bootloader, then flash a tooted boot.img for you OOS version, then use a kernel manager like Ex Kenrnel manager to flash a custom kernel

alright. I thought there is a way to flash it directly via recovery instead of going through all the process again.
Where can I find a rooted boot.img for my version? I have the europe/global(?) device and was on latest OOS Android 11.
Or should I rather flash Android 10?

[ROOT] Patched boot.img for Android 11 (Both OP8 and OP8P)
I've made a patched boot.img for both OP8 and OP8 Pro. Note that both files are based on the stable release of Oxygen OS 11 and also GLOBAL VERSION. Magisk Version: 21.0 (21000) - Beta Release Download from here...
