Underclock Xperia X suzu F5121 ? Some apps are working but are incompatible with 6 cores ! - Sony Xperia X Guides, News, & Discussion

My ( degooglised ) phone is on Lineage Os 16, without Gaps & rooted with SU ( TWRP installed ), and in developer mode.
Without underclocking the core are on 800/1400Mhz, it's draining the small 2600Ma battery of the Xperia X Suzu for nothing.
Theorically the clock can be set to 350/1400mhz, with the 2D graphic ( internet, video ) configured to work with the GPU in Lineage Os.
I've tried Konabess 0.16 ( find on Github ), it said my phone is not compatible at the opening.
I've tried one other app ( I've forgotten, and have no trace ! Really sorry of it! ) but take care of the result...
It has only underclocked 4 of the 6 cores ( 350mhz), and 2 last were working at full range to compensate, 1200/1400Mhz, and absolutely for nothing !
In minutes only, the phone get hot for nothing with those 2 cores put at full power
( how to burn the stuff in weeks without using your phone really !? ).
So the app was not adapted for 6 cores CPU
( check it before try it, or use a frequency and thermal monitoring app to watch at the CPUs ).
After my research, the app that is working the best is KERNEL ADIUTOR ( found on F-Droid, also on APKpure ). I find this app really cool, very complete and ergonomic.
My 6 cores are at 380mhz actually, I've limited them to 1200Mhz on full-load, CPU governor is set on "interactive" ( a lot of options are possible in the app ), I haven't touch the GPU adreno parameters.
If you've tried other app that working well on the CPU 6 cores Snapdragon 650 MSM8956 and GPU Adreno 510, share it to me ;-).
( I will watch if the battery really last 50%/100% longer and report it later )

[Q] Overclock GPU? [ i know sounds crazy ]

Same devices like HTC HD2 with Snapdragon, when you overclock the CPU, the same happens with GPU...
But in our case ( defy ) is not the same...
By default ( where i know ) PowerVR SGX530 it's runing AT 200Mhz, but can run higher, than 200mhz ( 400mhz i think ).
We can overclock the GPU to get more 3D performance, witouth sacrificate the battery?
Why do you think the GPU can run at twice the default clock speed?
If there is an article you have read that states or suggests this - please provide a link.
by default it's runing at 110Mhz ( i think )
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerVR
the default clock is 200Mhz, and i thing can go furher.
I have seen traces of 125mhz looking in the system files, but thats more of a guess

according to ti, it is [email protected] (all 3630 is)
well it's either CORE_CLK/6 (0x1) or "full speed" (0x0) (CONTROL_FEATURE_OMAP_STATUS)

Ok, but is there any way to overclock the GPU? at 250 or 300mhz maybe?
This program on the market says it can overclock GPU:
Overclocking (GPU / CPU) https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cpufree
but doesn't seem worth trying since it has a very very bad rating and comments.
Last app update was 5 months ago.
Can someone find an app worth trying?

Would be cool if the gpu ups with CPU, but like mentioned above...I think the omap3630 is locked at 200mhz
If anyone knows how to do a gpu OC...please share
dunno about you guys, but as far as i know, the gpu is integrated in the cpu chip (its like an extra core so to say), so it should be overclocked with the cpu. and whenever i ocd the cpu, i experienced graphics improvements, so i think, thats the answer, they oc together.

No they do not OC together i am afraid. Most of Android UI is being drawn by CPU and not by GPU as many thinks :/
Well, I've experienced minor changes when OCing my Defy from 1ghz to 1.3ghz, when using Neocore... it went from 39fps to 39.3 fps, but such small changes are expected, even without OC...

CM10 vs SAMSUNG ICS roms - CPU usage

Not sure what to tell.. but many people know that Galaxy S II with CM10 (currently using 21. september nightly) uses around 35% in idle of CPU power.. just 5 apps installed.. same with HW composing disabled. and same with force 2D GPU rendering checked
While. samsung one rom does use in idle around 3-12% of CPU usage with force gpu 2D rendering checked
Games are smoother on samsung than on cyanogen (both are running siyah kernel 4.1.5 with oc at 1.6 + GPU 400 + touch boost to 400 (step4)
example games: GTA III, Gangstar Rio
Why?
Not sure what is bottleneck... if fsync (really don't messed with it)
or memory bandwith,I/O,GPU, or cpu
during Gangstar RIO..
cpu runs with both cores around 65% and game lags during driving..
GPU can't tell.. as MaliStats reports bad value (400MHz 1100mV 100,1% ) all the time
Any known fix for these lags and cpu usage?
Gangstar rio is less laggy when HW composing disabled..
Because the HWcomposer isn't working correctly in CM10 so you have lags in games.
CPU takes all the load in 3D games on CM10.
BTW this question should be in CM10 thread.
HW composer still doesn't work? it is much smoother than it was before 3 weeks
now animations are smooth while before.. they were laggy as hell

This don't mean nothing, simply they work to optimize in a better way their rom.

ERROR! You are testing both roms with a "custom kernel"(siyah).
Ask in Siyah thread.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
HWComposer is not working fully, CPU is doing all the graphics works. You see smoothness due to other improvements and the Dual core CPU that's inside.
UC to 200Mhz and try scrolling, you'll see lags which you won't see if HWComposer is working correctly.
Hw composer is an issue, but sensor polling is another one, never resolved in cm builds, coming from cm7 days.
I tried contacting several developers, but none seemed to see or wanted to work on the problem.
While idling, sensors use +- 10% cpu on any CM based rom (at 200mhz), while on Samsung based the usage is +- 2% idling while screen is on, same conditions. Android system process is to blame, and inside the process sensors threads are the ones sucking cpu. Disabling sensors (autororate, light, gps) did not help to reduce the problem in my case. Using different kernels did not help either...
Had to live with the issue at this point...

Do You do similar comparison stock VS CM9?
Yes.. that sensor polling really uses a lot of power.. mainly compass one!
Thank's everyone.. usic Changmin vsync builds with dorinmax + 520MHz works good

GPU OC

Can we actually oc the gpu on the note 3 ? I have latest AEL Kernel v7.12 and I've put the frequency in the /sys/ folder to 550,600,500 and none work , also I tried with Fauxclock but doesn't work . Yes , in CPU-z it says adreno [email protected] but I launch asphalt 8 or other games and put cpu-z on-screen and the gpu never hits more than 478 mhz , I have laziness on 10 and ramp on 1 . Thank you !
EDIT : I don't know how i managed to miss the "Don't post questions here " sticky but I'm sorry!
Yes, it's possible. It's kernel-dependent, but I have mine set to 487.5MHz, and I can verify that it does, in fact ramp up beyond it's stock limit.
That being said, the limit it's set to is a maximum, so 99% of the time it will be operating well below that. I also believe that it depends on how the app is coded.
I've never seen a kernel with limits as high as you're trying to set them (that's not to say they don't exist though). Maybe try scaling it back a bit? Stock is 320Mhz, so pushing it to 600, if it's even capable of such, seems like it would be incredibly unstable and possibly damaging to the GPU...

MTK devices overclock possible MT6582 successfully overclocked !

Hi guys I'm new on xda and I'm really sorry if I post this thread in the wrong place.
I found a method last year with I think we can overclock/underclock our MTK devices. No custom kernel or ROM is required but the problem is that the CPU can't be overclocked.Only the GPU and other components like RAM and internal memory.
All you need to do is to install a MTK Engineering app from Google play store.
After that go to /hardware testing/DE-sense/PLLs - you will get to a menu with some different PLLs
ARM PLL - is CPU ( but can't be overclocked )
MM PLL - is the GPU ( it's safe to OC )
I don't know about other PLLs , I don't think is safe to OC them and you will not get any boost in performance.
There are the default PLLs values for my MT6582 device ( all clock speeds are in khz )
ARM PLL=1092000
MM PLL=500500 max / 266000 min
MSDC PLL=416000
MAIN PLL=1092000
VENC PLL=295750
UNIVI PLL=1248000
The best OC values for GPU are 315 MHz minimum frequency and 518 MHz maximum frequency, the minimum possible underclock frequency is 245 MHz minimum and 450 MHz maximum
From my tests I got a 10-15 fps boost in PSP emulators and 5-10 fps boost in 3D games (real racing 3,asphalt 8,modern combat 4) and benchmarks (antutu 5,gfx bench)
Here are the default clock frequencys for MT6589
ARM PLL=1508000 max / 754000 min
MAIN PLL=884000 max / 500000 min
MM PLL=338000 max / 286000 min
UNIV PLL=624000
MSDC PLL=208000
Here is the YouTube link, check it if you haven't understand this tutorial : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wY_i3u_Wu4w
Anyway I need an expert opinion to tell me what the other components are.
Attention !
- overclock can harm your hardware
- please make sure that you can remove your phone's battery because if you put a wrong value your screen can get stuck ! But if you are lucky your device will reboot
- make sure your device is rooted and you know your default clock speeds
- Do not try to OC any other components, only GPU is safe to OC
- I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone
I can't post this thread elsewhere because I'm not allowed even if I have more than 10 posts, admins please if you find this useful move it to a good location
very interesting. i want to try this on my unite3 lollipop with SoC 6582. but before that i want to ascertain default values for MMPL which i could not find when opened in engineeing mode. will you pls reply how to find default values.

Edit: whether values stick even aftet reboot and how to check it has overclocked or else.
Sorry for so late response but I don't have a mediatek phone anymore. Anyway so no you can't see what are the defualt values in mmpl but you have to find out your gpu clock speeds ( the maximum freq like 600 mhz and the minimum one, which the gpu idles at like 120 or 200 mhz). If you say that you have a mt6582 phone your maximum freq should be 500 MHz and you could try a 533 MHz overclock. Only big problem at this gpu trick is that we can't change the voltage also,so an stable oc will be very small. I reccomend to oc that idle freq which I don't know why this mali 400 uses it even in games making them lag. So try to oc that 200 MHz to 300 MHz,but don't go higher because the kernel will think that you want to change the max 500 MHz freq so the performance will get worse. First set something like 303000 and after 515000.These are some ideal valuse which I've tested by myself. Sorry for my bad english and greetings from Romania.
how about mt6750?
Wont work on my nokia 3 TA-1032
Sorry, this is a late reply but i dont know why it says "Fail to enter De-Sense PLLs module" when i tap PLLs.
There is no de sense pill option in mtkengineering mode on my device mt6761 android 8.1

Hey... You've mentioned max clock speed for big cluster as 1651Mhz how's that possible... Is it a 1.7 GHz version ? I got z00ud 1.5ghz ... Or is it a feature from poison kernel... Just a clarity before I go for a dive

Hey ,snapdragon 615 can go up to 1.7 ghz but on stock kernel it runs on 1.5ghz
stock kernel (stock rom): big cluster is locked down to 1.5ghz and when trying to play anything it goes down to 1.1ghz or 800mhz
poison kernel (any custom rom):big cluster goes to 1.7ghz (1651mhz) when playing it thermal throttles to 1.4or 1.3ghz
fire kernel (any custom rom): same as poison
||with thermal throttle tweak||
stock kernel (stock rom): not tested
poison kernel (any custom rom) : while playing games big cluster stayes at 1651mhz and Little cluster shuts down (or uses one core on 200 mhz) *using impulse/impulse for cpu governor*
fire kernel (any custom rom): not tested

I never tried poison kernel but ... I used firekernel and it has only up to 1.5ghz I'm surprised poison let's you go an extra mile...that is not specified in the features list..... Well... Hello.
Do those kernels works on other Snapdragon 615 phones?
I have a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6, with TWRP 3.2.3-0 and Lineage 14.1 (no more updates from that version til now), and it throttles a.f. even @ room temps (like 20~24 °C) while the CPU seems to go up to 67~72 °C while working @ 100%, throttling to 800 MHz, and not keeping the 1467 MHz full speed on the big cores.
Maybe this phone doesn't have a great heat dissipation design (the SOC seems interfaced with a thermal pad to a thin shielding, then to the internal frame with a weird interfacing, at the center an adhesive part and on the sides a weird texture. Also the internal frame seems in plastic, covered with some aluminium powder or something alike.
Anyway thanks for every answer or suggestion.
