Is the latest update safe to install? - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello, i was wondering if the latest update, OxygenOS 11.0.10.10.IN11AA, is safe to install. I remember a few months ago there were people having problems with the update breaking stuff so i haven't updated my phone since, although I think it might have automatically updated even though I didn't want it to. So i wanted to know if people were having problems with it and if so, what were the problems. I would have asked on oneplus' forum but my understanding is that they close threads that mention or imply there might be a problem with their products, so I ask here.

I dont think OP is closing threads pointing out problems or searching for solutions.
Anyway i dont have any problems with the latest updates. Just make sure to prepare magisk before the ota.

Yes there's nothing wrong with the latest update... Battery is on par with previous versions, as is performance, no visual additions or added features......no change

[Q] Another Stupid Noobie Question

(probably not the best title if I want to get an answer, but...)
I have successfully rooted and have done the lag fix. Surprisingly, all went very smoothly despite my lack of knowledge in this area. I haven't flashed any ROMs or changed anything, I've just done the root and lag fix.
Now to my question...when the OTA update comes out, can I just update from my phone? Honestly, there is no need for me to be rooted since I have no idea what I'm doing. I just did it so I could install the lag fix. But if the update fixes lag, I have no need for either. Basically, I'd like to know that if I do the update via OTA, all will be well in the world with my phone, correct? It will just override the root and lag fix? Or will it jack up my phone because I didn't uninstall the two?
Thanks to all!
You will be able to install the update, you will lose root after the update, as for the lagfix, the 1Gig file is probably still going to be there but it's probably going to be useless(not sure about the lagfix part but since OTA does not format the memory this is probably the case).
Related to your post I would like to know if you can update your phone with out rooting it if you are not on T-Mobile's network anymore? And if not if you put a T-Mobile pay as you go card will you be able to update then?

there is another thread with the same question and someone said that someone is probably going to post the update on XDA, which is probably going to be faster than you getting it over the air.
I'm going to take a guess and say that most likely you will not get the update when your on a different net.

1.066 OTA update

well i was flat out stunned that i got an update notification on my a500 today..... software 1.066
i cant find any info except for a single thread on the official acer forums in which 2 other people posted today they got this OTA update notice
seeing how the last OTA update borked my (and many others) screen auto-rotate functionality... i am going to hold off on downloading and installing this (i had to send it back to acer Two times to get them to fix this issue - software related.... and seeing how i am out of warranty even if this OTA caused problems ACER will not fix it for you even if it is their software problem like last time was)
i was hoping one of you brave souls had instlaled it and could tell me what it is.... seeing how its only 63mb im not expecting anything major

Honestly, what could Acer possibly have to offer that's better than the custom roms found here? With the latest Cm 10.2, bootloader 8 or 9,and a decent recovery, anything Acer could send OTA would be a downgrade. This thing is more stable than many newer devices with similar software. It's faster and more useful than the ipad I use at work. Who needs Acer?

Would be interesting to see what's in it. Vache put out a pc based update checker. Might be able to snag it to pc then decrypt, unzip, and see what's in it. Could be a prelude to an upcoming version update.
I got the update too and frankly I was very surprised. Of course it didn't install but I saved the file in case somebody is interested in seeing it.
No people know what this update about??
I didn't receive any OTA update notification.
My build number is Acer_AV041_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1
Image version is Acer_AV041_A500_RV03RC01_WW_GEN1

The link is posted in the Devs. section.
Will look at it when I return from vacation. In the meatime, there's a decrypt tool in Themes and Apps. Pretty simple. Then you can open it in winzipand see wwhat's there.
My guess is a maintenance update. Acer officially stated last year ics is as far as they go with 50x tab.
Thanks for posting.

Last night I went full stock in order to install the OTA just because I was curious like everybody else .... and honestly I didn't see any changes but the built number. The Android is still 4.0.3 with no noticeable changes. Maybe the updates they made were all under the hood.

When I went read the CM10.2 post, I saw some feature work, some not, with the problem of SOD. I'm still on full stock and didn't see this update, but I'm more interested in getting a very stable build instead of getting the latest version. What do you think the benefit is to get the latest CM10.2? Thanks.

Well, first, you're talking about Android 4.3, which Acer has not released for our device. Most benchmarks I've seen show better performance with the cm 10.2 variants than in 10.1, let alone the stock roms. Besides less bloat, more customization, and custom kernels, upgrading to a 4.3 ROM gets you new features not available in previous versions. As for stability, the first alpha builds of 4.3 I tried were already more stable than some 4.2.2 release candidates I tried.
I've used both of the 4.3 ROMs found in the forum here and they are both good.

I went to check the CM 10.2 post, and saw a lot reports on stability. I use my tab to read some websites, and not a lot others, I have a phone and a laptop for all others. All I want the tab is to turn on instantly when I push the power button so I can read when I want to, late in the night on bed, and even that can't be met. It just SODs.

It's unfortunate you're having trouble. I've been using 4.3 for a while now with no major issues. You can always use 10.1 or even 10.0

Phone won't update (rooted)

I have had my S4 since december. I love it. I rooted it to NAE and used enable native hotspot because amazing. This was many many months ago. Now I'm getting Google play services notification that i have a system update downloaded ready to install. I tried installing it, doesn't pass, so I tell it to preserve root status. The notification comes back an day or 2 later and nothing dismisses the notification.
What's the most efficient thing for me to do? On my S2 I would install roms mods and tweaks till It was 'just right', but something was always broken and backdoor fixed and with Knox I decided to stick with simple and non - invasive, mostly for safety but it has left me lazy and ignorant. I'm capable, but warry.
1 what is the update?
2 what are my options (install an update 'this way') or (revert back to stock, install the update, then root again and hotspot) or (disable Google play services?) What else?
Thanks, I can't even find reference to the updates from sprint.
If you can't find anything about the update, you're not looking very hard. There are dozens of threads on this site regarding the NG2 update and all of your questions will be answered within.

Listen to this guy^^^
Search! And your phone won't install the update because you are rooted. If you don't know how to proceed search some more. This question has been answered.
I flashed from MK2 back to MF9 then updated to NG2 using Samsung Kies.

Not sure if you meant to be helpful or not, but I didn't know it was called ng2 and that keyword makes all the difference.
Thank you, I am now finding a lot of relevant information. If you don't want to A my Q's then maybe you clicked on the wrong forum.
In case it wasn't clear. Because of knox, I'm no longer doing the kind of tinkering I used to and staying up to date on every update, bug, mod, etc because the danger of bricking is higher and I have less time than I did 2 years ago. I wanted to read every thread about installing NG2 for casuals with rooted phones but not knowing the updates title had my searches full of irrelevant results and I couldn't identify whether any of them were useful. I'm not sorry I bothered and you should not want me to be. I'll find my way now thanks to you and if you never wanted me to, then you're a Q&A troll, and nobody cares about trolls.

Thanks, I'll look into this, I'm warry of flashing backwards because I have knox but I'm sure I'll probably read its safe and follow this route if there's no easier way to directly apply the update.

[MODS & FIXES] G955U/G955U1 SamPWND List

This is an effort to consolidate fixes, tweaks and mods specific to the rooted G955U/G955U1 SnapDragon S8+ via SamPWND.
The initial release of root for this version by the development, contributions and tireless efforts from elliwigy, Harry44, akiraO1, BotsOne, GSMCHEN and jrkruse are obviously being enjoyed by many, as is evident by the visits to elliwigy's release page.
Unfortunately, that thread is in dire need of clean-up because it has become a hodgepodge of redundant rooting questions, helpful answer posts (and complaints), all infused with a few mods and tweaks mentioned.
So let's share what can be done (and what cannot thus far) with this rooted version.
Please (!!!), already be aware of which device you have, and if SamPWND works on your device. "How do / Can I root my..." questions simply don't belong here!
Let's try to keep it clean in here by looking around the forum first before posting, but also by being helpful and not condescending to those of us enjoying root who are perhaps not as knowledgeable about such matters as others.
Some of the most common questions being asked, and their answers from that thread
Flashfire infinitely spinning for part 2 root steps
Turn on airplane mode
Is there a fix for the 80% battery max capacity?
No, and it seems unlikely at this stage. Make yourself happy and hide your battery percentage.
Green/glitchy screen
Most (including myself) have resolved or heavily mitigated this via the AQI1 fw posted recently.

S8: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ampwnd-green-screen-corruption-fixed-t3673782
Does Magisk work with this root?
No.
Does Xposed work on this root?
Unofficially yes, search for unofficial Xposed s8, it will be in the device forums. Edit-or use this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/unofficial-xposed-guide-snapdragon-s8-t3663728
Can I install custom roms?
No, the BL is still locked. The last I read is there are some ideas around how we might achieve an unlock, but nothing so far. There's is the modified stock rom available in the OP of the root thread that provides csc and superSU but beyond that, no.
Screen rotation is messed up / reversed
You downloaded the wrong step 1 files. Try again for your device (plus or non-plus)
I can't think of any other recurring questions, but I've been keeping up to date on that post for more of the 318-or-so pages, and there's a lot of other useful information held within them. Worth a read.
Awesome first response!
So can I start with this:
"Unofficial Xposed'...
Where are the where's & how's located for our specific device, along with the yeahs & no's about what Xposed can do? I've looked and read, but there really is no clear post (that I have found) saying that our model can (or can't) DL Xposed and make things work.
Out of level 8, I'm probably a level 2 coming from rooting back in the days of the first Droid LOL! So I figure if we can keep things down to a level 3 or 4 here, we can learn and teach about WHY certain things won't work.
I'm also very interested in the capabilities of our camera. I used to use chdk to hack Cannon P&S cameras, and despite all my hours doing so, the hardware could never deliver night shots like this phone!

You may have read my post just before I edited it to add the links. The link I posted for the s8 is where all if the Xposed info is held for our devices. I am currently running it with the latest fw I also linked to with no problems. That thread also contains a few modules the OP has verified working. I am currently only using it for a couple of tweaks from "all my.." and xVoice++. I also was utilizing this Xposed version before flashing the fw mentioned, and it's worked perfectly for both. I can't remember which fw I was on previously though.
regarding camera mods, I made an attempt the moment I got the phone to replace the stock camera with a ported pixel, before researching how to do it properly these days. Wound up with crashing camera warnings every 30 seconds and my backup wouldn't restore properly in titanium and had to reset completely and start fresh.
I used to root back in the Motorola Droid (original) days, when root required 30-or-so lines of commands, I'm sure you remember funny how we've come full circle. I swapped to iPhone for the iPhone 4, enjoyed a bootrom exploit for several iOS versions, and stuck with apple up until just last weekend so it's been a while since I've been on the root scene myself, much has changed indeed. It's the first Android device (S8+ here) that actually made me want to switch away from apple, and I don't yet regret it.

Thanks! And it's alright if it gets moved there so long as it still helps everyone out and you wizards walk through once in a while to bless us all with a bit of wisdom. LOL!
Meanwhile, for as long as it's allowed to stay here, it might serve well to keep distractions off your release thread.

Considering less than one hour after I replied with the common questions and answers, someone asked about flashfire on page like 318 again, I'm sure this post is pretty low on priority for the people who tend to ask the questions.
I just finished rooting my sprint s8+ with sampwned. I installed my 256gb micro sdcard and I get the kernel panic reboot to error screen. Am I unable to use the sdcard? I'm scouring xda for any info. Just looking for a little help if anyone knows anything I don't. Thanks.
Nice idea OP.
Some fixes may be had by using the @partcyborg ROM for S8. It is in the S8 ROMs, Kernels, ... Forum https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/root-partcyborgrom-aqi6-deodexed-t3702988
For the S8+ @jrkruse has some good info in the S8+ Verizon, ROMs, Kernels, ... Forum. https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s8+/development

Rooting?

Does anyone know of a rooting guide specifically for the 930A? I'm not a n00b, but I'm hesitant to use methods from other variants, especially if it requires having to mine from potentially hundreds of pages.
And at this point, I'm not even sure which version of the firmware is still rootable.
still works...

As of today 2/03/2018, the latest OTA installed phone is still able to be rooted using same old EngBoot boot but requires downgrade first. Also thought I might mention that I have not noticed any battery drain issues or lag issues that have commonly plagued the engboot method. Perhaps the OTA changed something that may have been related to whatever made the engboot cause the issues related to battery drain and lag. I don't know but phone is rooted and working better then ever using engboot.
is there a guide to get this working?

Which of the many threads did you use/follow to root? If you can point me in the right direction, I *may* attempt it and if I can get it to work, I *may* write up a step-by-step like I did for my TMo S5.
Thanks.
