Was the root method patched in a firmware update? - Walmart Onn Tablets General

Every command used for rooting i try in fastboot doesn't work expect fastboot flashing unlock
I'm using the 100015685-E

You should just try flashing a GSI rom. I think most of these tablets are compatible. Use an app like "Treble Info" to see.

I installed phhusson's de-googled AOSP rom. I haven't used it extensively, but first impressions are great. All the roms in this list should be compatible.

Thanks! I used some of these ROMS for a Huawei M5 Lite recently and they're not quite geared for tablets. After all adjustments, while I could get it to look more like a tablet OS, it still was lacking a bit. That could probably be the M5 Lite problem. Either way, thanks for confirming that these ROMS work. I appreciate the help!
No functionality issues, right? Currently I have a BT problem with stock ONN.
Thanks again!!

Yeah, may not be optimized for tablets. Not to big of a deal on the 8" version, but could be an issue on the 10".

[WIP] Sailfish OS for OPX

Hello OPX community,
I started to work on the port and its progressing nicely, UI is up also Wifi works now, but many things still don't work, so help is defintly appreciated.
Current status: wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris
OLD:
I don't know if some of you know Sailfish OS, but its an OS that is not based on Android with an outstanding UI and UX.
And developers can port it to Android based devices like ours \o/
So I took the hand and compiled Sailfish OS and Android, but unfortunaly I don't really have the time to test since this is my only phone.
So I need someone to either test and report to me or what would be better someone that can develope further on its own after I shared my knowledge with him.
This thread is for talking about everything related to Sailfish OS.
Here are some useful links:

This would be my dream coming true...
I might be able to test it, if You can make a flashable zip. Is this build supposed to support android runtime? If I flash it, my recovery and internal SD remains untouched?

Android Support is currently not available for ported devices but there are some devs working on an open source solution.
Your recovery will stay the same.
Internal SD should stay untouched of you don't wipe it but it will probably not visible from sailfish but there was a fix for that, dunno if that is already upstream.

It's a completely different OS, it's based off Mer which is kind of a Linux distribution and on top of that sits sailfish OS. CM is only used on Android via libhybris to get the hardware working. In fact it's completely different from Android and NOT based on it like CM. It's real Linux as a mobile OS.
Wifi up
Bluetooth up
All sensors up
Audio up
\o/
Nice progression, thanks for effort. Had a Jolla-device before and loved it. The HW build quality just wasnt there. Altough, I'd love to get the opensource dalvik-emu to work some day, since I have a bad feeling about future sw development on SailfishOS.
Awesome. Sorry I haven't been able to get back to you on the latest build. I haven't had time lately. Life kinda showed up abf took my time with it. I'll try to observe it later.

My goal is to have a custom android rom compiled and then to try port different O/S's to it.

Ok, should have read it better. Are you able to just compile a kernel for testing. Once you have a working one, that would be a good base for updating rom.

Any update on this?
Guess this is not going to happen. Just wish I still had the time I used to. I would have had a go my self, as the vanilla kernel is what kills this cool bit of kit.
I managed to get it to a usable state with google play installed, by installing SkyNET. Which tweaks the system on the fly when needed. Helps keep as much memory as possible.
Would the kernel source of the Nokia X help? as it uses the exact same hardware.
I have it downloaded, so if it will help, I can link.
I have given up on anyone doing anything with pine. So I tweaked stock rom as much as I could, got it running very nicely even with my 130GB storage (link2sd). I also modified the ramdisk image to support init.d on boot. Im also using kickarse kernel script.

I used rom kichen to mess with ramdisk (it was very risky as messing with boot image can brick pine). I manually added init.d support. Then repacked it. Luckly it worked fine. I even flashed it to my sons.
I extracted stock system.zip and tweaked it the way I wanted (debloated added apps I owned), then flashed that. As I added init.d, I could use scripts on boot to alter running of pine.
Im currently using Project skynet vr4, which runs very nice.
@fol What is skynet? Do you have a link?

If there are any custom Oreo ROMs for our T-810, they are a very well kept secret.

Indeed, I'm battling with a concussion, very limiting my screen time. Also, to be honest, @RaymanFX is the lead developer for the 2015 Tab S2 models, I just managed to adapt his code for the T810 (not to difficult) and the T710/5 (bigger challenge, still needs a lot of work).
My prio at this point is to get the T710/5 functioning before putting time in, unless RaymanFX wants to start work on Oreo for the T815, then I can test the other devices. (alas, no real work for a while, just barely managing to get 4h of work in a day)

hi, not to open a new thread:
but official there is also Nougat 7.1 for the S2 2015 version.
Can i flash this and root it per superSu?
Is there any custom kernal avialble?
or better an "original" Rom just moded?
thanks for answers in advance

The answer is quite easy.
CustomROMs would be easier to create if there'd be an official Oreo ROM from Samsung. The SM-T810 is still on Nougat (I got a "new" update a couple of days ago, which only "updated" the security patch level...).
Since Samsung released the S3 Tablet, there won't be any effort spend into developing an official Oreo Rom in this "older" Tablet, imo. The SM-T810 has an Exynos 5433 CPU (and not a Qualcomm), which means we're facing closed-source and therefore smooth and fully working CustomROMs won't be very likely.
The question is: Why do you want a custom ROM at all?
The stock Nougat ROM can be debloated (e. g. via Neked Maker), rooted, Xposed can be installed.
All is working fine, and you can customize it very much.
What feature are you looking for in a custom ROM which isn't possible with stock ROM??

There's no stock Oreo rom. For me, it's not that I want a custom rom, it's more that I want an Oreo rom.
Actually possessor of a T715 Tab S2. I saw someone managed to build an Oreo rom for T710, if the rom will come also for the sim variant it will be really great! We have to forget about samsung spending time for "old" devices....Instead thanks all the developers teying to get the best out of this tab and updating it.

I don't see needing all the extra TouchWiz crap that this device barely supports and had survived using Link2SD for storage. Something stable supporting at least basic apps is all I need, and most of those (Gmail, Chrome, etc) are now available from play store.

Hi, my advice is starting by taking sources from other variants (you can find them in GitHub S3NEO organization) and editing sources by starting from that base. For the kernel, it shouldn't be difficult to make a defconfig by always looking in matisse and millet ones. I advice you to start from Android 9 (lineage-16.0 branches) since they are the most stable. If you are really interested to work, you can write me in Telegram (same username as xda profile) and I can write you something more about what you should do.
Android 8, 9 or 10 will be nice, but right now I will be happy with Android 5. Are there any ROMs for degas higher than 4.4.4?
Are there any true Android 5 or Android 7 ROMs for this device?

Never compare Roms or ask for ETAs. Devs do put in a lot of hardwork.
However corvus for the Xiaomi phones are actually a beast by unlocking the max potential. However, to what degree they're good enough for the longevity of the device is a question.
However, you can try a lot of other roms here. I guess, if not gaming specific, you could unlock a lot of potential by using them with a modified kernel?

Well before flashing any kernel, you should always consult the dev of the ROM whether or not it supports any kernel altogether.
At times, to avoid any hassle, OS performance or any other brick related issues, devs generally do not support custom kernels and their bug reports.
It's all a gamble while flashing kernels on ported roms!
