Make wi-fi 2.4GHz sticky - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Is there a way to make the wi-fi stick to 2.4GHz full time. The phone defaults to 5GHz. otherwise. Phone is rooted.

Imagine you have a wifi router you play with.
In wifi setting in this router, disable 5g. then add mac address of fone to mac address of 2.5 network security allow/deny give manual ip to fone before you connect with the fone in question.
This should force fone to use 2.4g.
I no longer have my firestick, but what I mean can be seen when first setting up the firestick, where you choose manual IP, ADVANCED - you disable the 2.4/5g, look for SWITCHING, roaming...
Band hopping. So many new names...

Thanks. But the Netgear mesh router does not have the 2.4 and 5g separation provision. It's both or none. .

wifi problem

ok heres the deal... i have a MDA flashed with the software from att for the 8125 everything works great except when i turn wifi on, i can connect to the network but cant ever get a page to work. does anyone have any suggestions????? please help
Is this happening on any network or your home network?
Check this... go to Settings - Connections - Network Cards. Make sure the WLAN Adapter is set to connect to the internet. Then tap the WLAN Adapter and make sure IP Address is set to Server Assigned then in Name Servers you don't have anything. If any of these is different, change it to the above.
Yeah. I have the same problem. I have wifi pci asus, the signal is good. I have Lan tru router and now bridged connection. I set the ip, mask and gateway which are in the status of the brudge. And the internet explorer and opera wont load pages.?!??! dns isnt set.
The network adapter is sdio wlan.., and the connection is my work network in connection > connections > advanced >select networks.
i use wm6, nbd 8.0
What could be the problem???
it is home network and all other wifi locations
i know there is a problem with secured networks, especially with wpa encryption. try to remove the encryption and see how it goes....
I have removed all encription. I tried preety much everithing and it doesnt work. All other free wifi networks work just fine, i can surf on internet.
what router do you have? i know that i could not connect to a 3com router with the wizard with any rom i tried.
try using a defined ip address and dns, meaning no dhcp. use a real dns addresses and not the default gateway...

WM6 + Wifi - WPA+TKIP

I have a wifi router at my office - Netgear, I am using WPA-TKIP as security options, the problem i am facing is - i have setup a passphrase on the router, but on phone, it just asks for network key, i need a way to enter a pass phrase, are there any updates to wifi for WM6 which can help me to get out of this situation?
I cannot change my existing WIFI settings on router, my other machines and devices are using the same configuration and now if i change it to WEP or something else, i will have to upload all other machines.
I cannot move to an open system as well.
please help
wpa without wpa-psk wont protect your network from being used by other ppl. i suggest u to choose wpa-psk (pre-shared-key). u choose a password and it is easy to setup for the other clients on your wireless lan. just enter password one time on the other clients and they are online. and wpa-psk works with wm6. greetz spaxxi
Where it says Network Key is where you enter the passphrase as used on your router.
On my SPV E650 (vox) I have WPA-PSK with data encryption set to TKIP
Use IEE 802.1x network access control box ticked and EAP type as smart card or certificate.
Also I have set networks to access as All available but on my netgear under wirless settings I have set up enable access list with the mac of the phone (which you can get from connection settings or with wirless on the phone switched on the router should detect the mac from phone broadcast which you can then accept as a trusted station.
This means only my phone can connect to the router even though my ssid is broadcast.
Hope that helps.
MrMond
the sip client you have works
w pa-st k is the best most efficient way to run and your net gear has 3 different ways in but the paraphrase is fine. use the para phrase where it says key go right through it, if i recall the client has ports but ur going direct you dont need it. Your just and to log into your router regular client is for web based app go right at the router use wififofum and then just make sure your sip is on meaning registry is live dont worry about the settings. Let me try to make sense all next ell are voip just an ip i don't care what anyone says. your do not need a web based sip just leave the sip alone but try activating it remember it a phone turn it on but 1 thing give out static ips u will succeed. static wpa-stk intra net ur just taking to the device no need for any barriers. you could hook up computer up slap head phones and a mic in the analog jacks from the 80's and you have no succeeded in ? Voip. all that matters is the router is set right and sees only you for the duration of your call. Most likely wil end up turning that whit wpn8xxx into a access point have fun don't ask. But it only took me 3 hours to realize i left to come back into my office for what a paid for call. And the day wireless is everywhere i will be a lan expert.
ciao good luck don't orry just look at it and you will see what makes sense.

How To Access A Hidden Wi-fi Signal??

am trying to acess this hidden wireless network in my school on a tmobile dash wit htc wm6 rom..i noticed that all the laptops were wireless so i was thinking if there was any way that i can find the signal on my phone and access...it
thanx in advance...
yeah u can easily do that.
just get the SSID, WEP key(if specified) and the channel of the WiFi network and put that in the wireless settings as a new connection and u will be able to connect to the network.
but there could be a problem if the network does not support DHCP or if there is some proxy setup of gateway defined as then u will have to get those details also.

This WiFi issue is killing me!

I know Google has said they are looking into it. But this is ridiculous. The N1 can not handle WPA2 connections. Even though it saves the connection and password, it almost never reconnects automatically. From what I was reading on the Google help forum, it appears to have compatibility issues with many retail routers and they suggest upgrading the firmware on our routers. Throughout my day, I may connect to 3 different APs. One is a standard Linksys wrt54g with sveasoft, the others I connect to are Cisco APs.
None of them automatically reconnect. Most of the time on the Linksys, I have to delete the connection on the phone and re-add it.
I still like this phone but between the 3g and wifi issue, it is a pain to use.
I won't pretend to understand all that you just said, but I can tell you that my router is set up using WPA2-PSK. Not sure if it is the same as just WPA2 but my N1 reconnects to mine whenever I get in range. Then at the office it will connect to the WPA2-PSK set up in there, and one more regular open connection that is available at our pool. Pretty much every time I look at it, it is connected to one of those 3. Or else if I am OOR of any of those, I am on 3G.
My home router is a Belkin -N. Work routers are a Netgear -N and a D-Link -N.
I've got a Netgear WNR2000 on WPA2, and I can confirm I occasionally have this issue with the phone not connecting to the network automatically. It usually does if I go into settings and touch it to reconnect again.
There is an easy solution for any WIFI problems, use a Mac Filter!!
I have to go into Settings > Wireless & Networks > WiFi Settings before my Nexus One will reconnect to my home router, which is also using WPA2-PSK.
Hopefully it'll be sorted in a firmware update, it is annoying having to go through 3 screens to do something that my Nokia Symbian phones have been doing without issue for almost5 years...
I am having no problems auto connecting to my home WPA2 network, I am using AES encryption and running DD-WRT firmware if it helps.

Mac Filters are no replacement for WPA2 or encryption. Almost every device has the ability to spoof a mac address. Using a mac filter might help quickly eject roaming devices nearby, but it is NOT security.
Its like using a No Trespassing sign to replace locking your doors and windows.
i found that APNDriod may be a possible culprit....
Before I installed APNDriod , every times I go back home, my N1 will connect to my home WiFi almost immediately.
But after I install APNDriod, my N1 will not connect to my home WiFI.....I need to go into the Wireless setting screen, once i am on that screen WiFi it will connect.
But it is strange this I don't have this issue in my office, it just connect automatically before and after installing APNDriod.
Today I tried NOT to use APNDriod for a day and my N1 connect to my home WiFi without issue..... will do more experiment tmr.
Netgear WNR3500 w/ WPA2-PSK. Reconnects every time I am in range.
I find that my Linksys is the worst. The Cisco Aironet 1121 is better, but still has occasional connection issues. And I have not installed APNDroid.
On another note, when my phone switches from 3g to 2g and vice versa, it takes a long time for the data connection to resume
My network at home is setup with WPA2. I have no problems connecting to it... I click on the little wireless icon, and wait for it to say "wireless settings updated" and also wait for the wireless icon to show up near the time... then i will start browsing
I have a Dynalink RTA1025W
My wifi is working now. See h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5773148&postcount=26
No problem reconnecting to my home network with WPA2 . Apple's Airport Extreme.
No problems here connecting to my Belkin N1 router. Connects the moment its in range.
Setup using WPA2-PSK
im having this exact same problem on my D-link Dir 615!
Pisses me off alot, i hope Google fix it!
I found that unless I was on channel 6 or 11 I had issues
AES-CCMP, TKIP or WPA Cisco521G will not connect
My cisco 521AP does not connect using any type of encryption, it only works with open authentication. Expensive phone like this that doesnt work with business class products is a joke.

My suggestion is - check what you're doing wrong before assuming the phone is at fault. And check that you're using PSK.
SEC AUTH ENCRYPTION
No security None Open - working
WEP WEP Open - no
WPA-PSK TKIP WPA-PSK - no
WPA2-PSK AES CCMP WPA-PSK - no

Wifi but no Internet

Since I bought the HD2 before 2 month and after 2 Rom upgrade I still have the same Wifi problem. I can connect to my home network and the Router can see the HD2 but I can not connect to the Internet through the Wifi. All other computers and PS3 connect just fine. Ip adress seems also ok.
Please help ?
I did have the same problem a while back, and it occured after I used the wifi router. Have you ever used that, even just to try it?
No I never tried the Wifi Router even once and changed rom twice.

Probably not the same issue then. For some reason I had it trying to give me a static IP address that my router wouldn't allow (I've got MAC forwarding on my router to make sure that nothing other than the 4 things I have can connect to it).
When you connect to the wifi, can you open the router admin on your HD2?
Thanks for your help. No I cannot access the router from the HD2, could it be a proxy issue. I am not using a proxy for the internet

No worries mate - I hope I can help!
It's not a proxy issue, if you're not using a proxy server. Could you try this and let me know how you get on?
Start your wifi connection
Go to all settings, connection, wifi, wireless networks, network adapters tab
Select the Broadcom DHD adapter
It should be set to use a server assigned IP address, not a static one. It probably is, but it's worth checking.
When I open Wifi settings I can only open advanced no wireless networks or network adapter tab. How do I get there ?

After you've started wifi, go to the settings tab, menu and all settings. Then carry on the instructions in the last post.
Found the all settings, the DHD adapter is set to server assigned. Any other ideas ?
...
Well i think we have the same problem.. If you try to connect your wireless, do you get the failure after pressing get IP: Cannot obtain serverassigned IP....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627654 my thread was this..
I found out that if i you go under WIFI>ADVANCED>press on the NETWORKCARD under the field "SSID"> then go to the networkcard>Broadcom 802.11 DHD network adapter>remove the pin in use serverassigned, and write a static ip: example: IP: 192.168.1.23
UNDERMASK: 255.255.255.0
STANDARDgateway: 192.168.1.1
That helped for me, though i cannot use that fix because my college wont accept the static IP. so it works for like 2 mins and then it disconnect. hehe.
Heh - that would be pretty much my next suggestion.
Try a static IP address and see if that works. It's not a long-term solution, but it would determine whether it's your phone or the router that's having the problem.
Last time I set a static IP address, I liked it and left it like that, but I found (after a couple of days with no internet access) that it tries to assign the same IP address when you use your data connection for internet access. Your service provider is very unlikely to allow you to use the same IP address, so you probably can't connect.
Like I said, it's a test to see if you can connect - not a solution.
Do you know what IP addresses your router will allow you to use? Do you have a specified range of addresses, for example?
I have this exact same problem. I can connect to wifi networks at home, office, etc... But no network access. It connects to the AP's, gives me an IP Address, but I can't ping anything!
This thing gets more and more frustrating daily.

It also happened to me. Turns out it was the router I was using. I bought a new one earlier today and problem solved!
Hi!
I got a d-link dgl-4300 router, and had problem getting a IP adr. from it. When I gave my HD2 a static IP it worked, but very slow. After I changed from DHD network adapter to NE 2000 compatible ethernet driver it get IP from router and I can browse internet through wifi fast. Maybe it can help u 2.
regards Xes.
