Unlocking Oculus Go - Oculus Rift

https://developer.oculus.com/blog/unlocking-oculus-go/
Now that we have an unlocked bootloader officially provided from Facebook, what can we do that we couldn't before?
https://reddit.com/r/oculusgo and the related discord room at https://discord.gg/HVahbueBkT have been puzzling over it, but we're kinda stuck at getting a Magisk onto the device and it seems we don't have access to recovery, so any assistance would be appreciated.

Now the bootloader is unlocked and we can install any operating system, if one existed.
Now we can write our own operating system.

I know I am a bit late to this, however I did manage to port TWRP recovery for the Oculus Go. I have the source code uploaded to my GitHub if any devs want to take a look. I am trying to port AOSP to the device, but I am having issues with it. Might work towards getting LineageOS instead but I am not feeling too hopeful.

Oh, I should add on to this, I have no idea what isn't working. So far I can tell that mounting for the most part works, flashing Magisk seems to work, bit the screen isn't layed out properly. It is pretty much sideways (I think it is trying to diplay in portrait mode but I cannot seem to fix it.)

Hello and good afternoon, @Wolf_Link115
I've attached the link to your quoted post but you should have been able to do that, too. The restraint you've mentioned is no longer valid since the transition of the website from vBulletin to Xenforo.

Lineage 14.1 - Lux - Nightly

Hello,
I am firing up a server which will pull lineage repo every 24 hours and generate nightly for all of us till lineage can do it on their own.
But I am stuck at a couple of places.
1: As this is a cloud, I have no idea how to extract blob files to it.
2: When I was doing Samsung s3 development, I remember I add to add one more repo and never required blob files, am I missing something for lux?
3: How can i make sure I pull all latest Lineage code changes for lux?
Any support will be appreciated.
I just hope i dont end up spending hundreds of dollars for nothing.
Everything done.
Waiting for blob.

You mean to say, "reply to thread not allowed, use edit instead?"

[Discussion] [Call for Devs] - Trying to make the Project Treble easier for everybody

As many might know, thanks to Project Treble the work needed to port ROMs has been greatly reduced.
Right now everything is still a bit messy around treble, with people searching in every possible forum (even on ones for other devices) for an image, discussing things not in relation with the topic's original device and just making thing cluttered and hard to find.
We also can see that the great thread put forward by phhusson begins to get the same treatment with people from many devices in the same thread asking device-specific questions (and even questions about devices without Treble-support) when phhusson's initial idea seems to have been to build a base image which could be used / modified for each device. Essentially giving a golden base which only needs small, device-specific, modifications.
Coming back to the title. I want to propose device-specific Treble - Threads. Permitting to let GSI (Generic System Image) threads clutter-free and development oriented, while these type of threads can be used to discuss problems related to specific devices. From what can be seen right now (through the eyes of a non-dev) most of the time only small modifications are needed, which could be managed with a custom kernel or a custom zip containing all fixes.
Hoping to find a way, together, to get Treble even better for us and making work easier for developers.
Feel free to discuss
I agree. Device-specific forums would help with reporting bugs, and finding GSIs for certain devices.
Agreed!
I totally agree, people should acknowledge this and start making a move
Treble development, imho, doesn't need to be branched out for all the specific devices. That's just not it's forte, it's mandate is to be generic, not specific.
Considering some issues may be affecting multiple devices, how about having a distinct support thread, separate from the main development thread, for every GSI?
I feel a threads for every device may be unmanageable, and actually counterproductive once such threads grow.
I've started a Treble Megathread for the Huawei P10 but it's not gaining much traction.
Treble is all well and good but if nobody is actually using it (Phh's RR v3 has only had ~1800 total downloads) then there's going to be very slow progress!
Making treble-enabled devices should just go in the respective device's development subforum that (probably) already exists....

I'm a rookie... Inwant to compile a custom rom from source and make it a treble rom that everyone can use. Can anyone suggest me tutorials or stuff like that. I've never compiled before. Any help would be appreciated.

If you cant search a bit in the xda forum or search in the internet... Then I think you wont be able to compile your own rom and fix all the bugs.

So those people that have used it should write a guide on that devices' subforum. There's no need to clutter up the Treble subforum with device-specific things.

It's easy:
Factory reset
Boot fastboot mode
In adb type
fastboot flash system *systemimgname*.img

Your tip was so helpful! thank a lot!
It's hard work to make a good rom. It takes much time and you have to know much about Linux / how a kernel works / what libraries do and such things. It isn't something you learn in some days.
Agree! But there is bugs that still didnt fixed by phhusson in aosp. Such as lag when opening app from recents tab (Huawei). Btw its fixed by in Pixel Experience and in Havoc OS but not in the original one ( base rom ) . Treble need some work to be perfect. Remember to old Cyanyogen mod? That one is epic!

When you really think building a rom from source, show what you can. You think it's really sooo easy to fix all the bugs? To get the hardware working?
Developers here on xda need weeks to release a stable build of a rom and you call it easy?

There is absolutely no point. A bunch of Junior members are just coming on the forum thinking a certain thing because they don't bother to read what's in here in the slightest. In this casebThis one prolly assumed no one for some reason knows about gsi images on here? IDK it's getting annoying tbh

The gsi (generic system image) is what project treble is. I'm not gonna explain it all because literally all the info you could ever hope to have about project treble and gsi images are in the forum for project treble....... And also in the second link I put is the instructions (which was made way before this post got made) on how to properly flash the gsi images ?

I understand your trying to help but there has been a whole forum about gsi images for a good while now. With instructions on how to properly flash them. So sorry to say your thread is the one that is not needed here because there is already a whole dedicated forum for it. The flashing process is the same for any device with treble support so for example our moto phones we will flash a gsi image the same way someone with a one plus or the poco phone that's treble supported would. Hence the name GENERIC.
hahahah lol the gsi thread is not here. it is a proper forum. can't you realise that not everybody is familiar to this thing? lol

I understand not everyone has heard of it. But when there is already a whole forum for this exact post. It kinda makes this post not needed in our devices already cluttered ASF forum. Text makes me sound way more like I'm being an ass about this than what I'm trying to sound like and it sucks ?.
that's the thing. that's a whole forum as well as g6's. so, if you only look into g6's forum you will certainly no find that as it's not mentioned here even as a curiosity. anyway, will you really keep this going on? if you feel like it tell the mods and if they also feel like it they remove, this is not up to you. thanks.
the topic is okay
If the topic violated the rules of the forum, it would have disappeared for a long time.
If your friend is so familiar, let him tell which GSI version is the most stable and fastest and flawless?

There's not necessarily a fully stable or "fastest and flawless" there called generic system images because they are created for all devices that run android 8 and up not just one device that's specifically made for it like the firmware we're used to using. the reason you don't wipe the system for gsi and all that is because the gsi basically attaches itself to the current system then builds itself based on your system So there gonna be different bugs or speed differences with each device. This gsi in this post might work well for the moto g6 play but since it's not specifically made for our device someone with let's say for example a one plus 6 might have issues. the common issues are finger print sensor not working or camera not working. Unless there is a custom rom made just for our phones gsi is the only option we have though right now which will have issues and your bugs. and the forums are not moderated to well for this device it seem that's why it's getting annoying having a post about something that already has a dedicated forum for it. im not saying it's wrong what your doing I'm just saying if someone did this in the moto g4 play forum since I have that phone to it would have either gotten moved to the project treble forum device list or it would have gotten removed with a locked thread and link taking people to the project treble forum.
OK I understand. Come think that the topic is only purely informational. Thanks for the straightening and in-depth introduction that I should include in the subject.

Just to let you know, I did flash this onto my G6, it booted up fine but keeps giving me the "Device is not Certified by Google" Error during setup and seems to get caught up on the "Checking Info" screen and not going forward. Any solutions for this?

So the last thread was killed b/c it "served no purpose". I guess motivating you guys to build something " serves no purpose". So who's gonna stop being lazy and build it? You guys got twrp, that guy can build ofox too. Its not that hard. Just swapping out twrp sources for ofox sources.
Yes sure if its just that easy try yourself
just swap the source
I get why you want that recovery.
Its a good idea to get the ones that wants that so developers could see. But saying easy to something that you don't understand isn't right.

Oh yea cause being aggressive calling ppl lazy will motivate people.
1 - Make a port is HARD and few actually know how to do it.
2 - Who can already IS working on it, if it's not ready it's cause it's not easy.
3 - You can't persuade people to donate a device or even money as only us know our self and our own budget at home.
4 - If you are that unhappy, don't rely on other's, google and try to learn your self, if you make it you don't even need to share if you hate ppl for not help the cause.
5 - If a moderator closed your thread it clearly violate EULA of XDA so re post is isn't a good idea.
I my self tried to port the Raphael OrangeFox, but wasn't successful. It's hard and beyond my current knowledge (even though i'm studying to be able to port some day). Also the dev is kind of a jerk on the Telegram group so i don't want to donate for that reason.
AND last but not least, there IS a orange fox recovery on testing.. search for

Any possible way to install TWRP on OOS 11 (OP8P)?

Title says it all, I was trying to install TWRP on OOS 11 but it bricked my device , I tried the same way on OOS 10 and it worked perfectly , any idea if it's possible to install TWRP while having OOS 11 (for OP8P)?
TWRP is not available for A11.
No it isn't, check their thread for updates.
You have another thread in Q+A, please get this one closed.
Is there any way to flash OOS 11 ROM from TWRP? I don't know if the ROM would still fail using this method. Anyone want to chime in?

There's a thread dedicated to TWRP, all your answers are there.
In short the answer is - not yet.

Good day everyone!
Advertising recovery distributions that come without source code should not be done on XDA. As these "off the grid" TWRP iterations are closed, we cannot verify if they can be trusted. We strongly advise to stick with proper distributions on our platform in the interest of your own safety/privacy. Doing research before buying a device can prevent a lot of frustration.
And there's no need to attack each other over something like this. I'm sure we all have more pressing matters to worry about right now. Which in hindsight may also be a catalyst for reacting a bit harsher than usual. Understandable. But let's try to get along anyway ^_^

Really???
FYI, if it's "developed" by someone on XDA developers, then it's fine (for the most part)
But if it's software that is not developed and freely shared here, like warez eg: apks for apps you haven't paid for or can only be obtained from a said location.
Or like in this case a developers work who is not from XDA and we do not have permission to share then no, you can't share it here or indeed anywhere legally unless you have permission to.
In regards to the TWRP in question I believe they've been approached to collaborate and have plainly said no, so it can't be shared here..
XDA have a responsibility to adhere to these decisions..
I get it's frustrating and we all know what goes on behind the curtain, no one here's thick, but just play the game.
More to the point, I thought the guys were making headway on our TWRP anyway..
Couple that with the fact that you can do pretty much anything without TWRP and it's a non starter really arguing about it anyway
