How to enable DeX in Galaxy s8 ? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi
I seem to remember my s8 having the ability to enter DeX mode few years ago, now that I actually need it and got a dongle for it doesn't work.
When connecting to a Windows 10 with DeX application It only offers file transfer and charging and other standard Android USB connection options (when connecting an s20 to the same PC DeX fires up immediately)
When connecting to a USB-C dongle it recognizes the USB memory stick and Bluetooth mouse connected to it but won't output video to HDMI (again, when connecting s20 to the same setup, all the connected devices are recognized AND Dex is activated and video signal sent to display through HDMI)
And even the DeX/Screen Mirror options from the settings menu are gone (settings>connections>more connections).
Has this something to do with Samsung ending support for s8?
I just did a hard reset to factory settings and still nothing.

Samsung gaxy s7 edge with broken diplay, how to recover data

Morning,
i have an Samsung galaxy s7 edge with a broken display (i don't see anything on it, but the phone is on).
I need to recover data, but it's android marshmallow... and when i connect to pc it connect in charge mode.
I don't see anything in the phone and i can't change mode to mtp.
There is a way to connect the phone to pc to recover photos and videos from the phone?
thanks for your help
Had you turned on developer settings?
You can connect a monitor to your phone. If you have a PC monitor (or even a TV should work), you just need an adapter from micro USB to VGA/DVI/HDMI (depending of the monitor). Plug the monitor on your phone using the adapter and use what will be diplayed on this monitor to recover your data
An adapter like that would cost you 5-10€

Cast to Microsoft Wireless Display adapter v1 (miracast) wont connect

I am unable to connect to a Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter version 1. I updated firmware on miracast device to latest available but it still wont connect for more that few seconds. I am using the samsung smart view on quick settings. Any suggestions to get this to work? a different app or settings? need miracast because I don't have a wifi network connection where i am using the phone. if someone has an MS wireless display adapter v2, can the s8 cast to that?
Thanks for any advice.
I have the same problem. Typing code. Then a mirror that plugs into the S8 Galaxy and disconnects.
What is the solution?
tested version 2 and it wont connect either.
I can tell you that it casts flawlessly to chromecast v2. Maybe will be worth an upgrade to that?
I have the galaxy s7 edge and could connect using an app from the app store called Miracast Display Finder. However on the Galaxy s8 i cannot connect.

I was able to get my galaxy s8 plus to successfully connect to the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter V2. I even watched a movie that I had on my device that was aprox.. 1.5 hrs with no issues!
To get it to work, I had to hold the reset button on the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter for 10 seconds to reset it. After 15 mins of it saying that it is restarting i got impatient and I unplugged it. Once booted back up it connected fine using the built in "Smart View" quick toggle in the notification area. Keep in mind that this setting is normally at end of the quick toggles list. You can find it by pulling down twice on the notification bar, and then swiping the quick toggles left, then click "Smart View". Make sure your Display Adapter is connect to the TV/Device prior to and it'll show up as an option to "miracast" to.
Just in case anyone is wondering, I have the stock latest firmware AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8+ G955USQS1AQG1 and the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter V2 with Firmware version: 2.0.8372.
I have Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Tablet and Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter connected to my Samsung Smart 55" Curve TV with current firmware V2.0.8372 installed on tablet BUT I CAN NOT CONNECT MY TABLET / ADAPTER TO TV? Please offer solution. Thanks
Hello,
I had similar issues.
I fixed it by updating the firmware on the M$ Wireless device to 1.3.8365.
To do this, get a Windows 10 PC. Download the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter application from the M$ store. Connect to the device and you should have an option to update firmware.
Easy....once you know that the firmware can be updated.

Unable to use external DAC with S8+

I have no issue getting my Chord Mojo working with the UAPP app on my S8+ but when I try to use band camp, youtube or any other apps it will not route audio to the DAC properly. Note that UAPP uses a proprietary driver for routing data to the extetnal DAC. A notification comes up when connection Mojo to S8+ via micro usb-usb c otg cable(see screenshot below)
I have tried every option in the normal settinsg and developer mode but no matter what it just reverts back to "charge connected device". I have played around with all the USB settings in Developed mode;
Prevent automatic usb routing
Setting the usb device to audio source,
/MTP
Etc
Nothing works.
I even uninstalled UAPP, attached Mojo and opened band camp, still nothing. Worse yet, often it will freeze with Mojo connected and then restart itself or get stuck on the carrier boot screen during restart.
Seems that Android system is not allowing the device to connect properly although I can't be sure. I just want to be able to send all my audio to my exceptional Chord Mojo. Bummer because everything worked fine on S7 Edge running Android 7.0 when I selected MTP under developer options. Unless there's a fix I'll only be able to use Mojo with UAPP.
You should probably post over in the correct forum
Samsung Galaxy S8+
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+
You have a Galaxy S8 Plus, not a Galaxy S8. That forum is dedicated to same device you have, and while the S8/S8+ are almost identical (in software), more people will be there to help you.
Done.

Phone forcing MTP USB Config mode

Hello everyone,
I use my s8 to listen through music on my car stereo, which supports Android Open Accessory 2.0, allowing me to use USB to connect the phone to the stereo.
Since the latest update, when I plug in the phone it will not work with the stereo. I found out this was because the USB Config mode in Developer options would switch to MTP.
Switching to Audio Source mode would allow the phone to work, however every time I unplug the phone, it resets the mode to MTP.
Is there any way I can force the USB config mode to stay in Audio Source?
Thanks
Did you find a solution for this? Having the same annoying problems on several phones, most of them didn't even connect to my jvc at all, except note 4/s5 s4 oukitel u16(setting on midi) and now finally my s7 after root ing and 2 weeks of trial and error.. But have to connect 2 times before even getting in android audio mode and switch to audio source several times.. It's so annoying there has to be a good working funftional usb audio output.. Come on...

USB Tethering not working on Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi version

I want to enable USB tethering on my Samsung Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi (SM-P610) to create LAN with laptop so I can let SpaceDesk run with better stability. However after enabling USB tethering, Windows shows the LAN card (Samsung Mobile USB Remote NDIS Network device) as "cable not plugged", as opposed to my phone, Google Pixel 3, on which tethering and screen sharing work properly.
Is there any trick to enable proper USB tethering on this tablet?
I'll just reply to this in case anyone comes across it in the future through a search.
I found that Samsung Flow was interfering with being able to use USB tethering, and I had to force stop it to get it to work, I also installed the Samsung USB driver on my laptop but not sure if that made a difference.
However, I found the spacedesk connection worked better on wifi, not sure why, I might have to play around with it a bit.
