I have been unable to install the update. Was with custom recovery and root and tried to install it and failed. Did factory reset, install stock recovery, download again the OTA from phone an try to install it and did not work.
Used the guide to go back to the stock firmware (though I already had it)
Try to install it using stock recovery, threw and error. (books.apk blabla).
Don't know what problems could yo be facing but man, this has been tough.

Just figured it out! The problem was exactly that I was already using the stock ROM and deleted some system APKs.
After trying going back to the really stock one once again (first I did not flash system images) it is installing correctly!
Btw this is my mirror for those who prefer using MEGA servers.

- Updated some Motorola apps. Noticed Super SU is already included and installed by default, no way to uninstall it.
- Downloaded to my computer the OTA file (Blur_Version.210.12.61.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US), then moved OTA file to SD Card
- Turn off mobile
. Reboot in stock recovery, with the robot and the exclamation sign.
- Try to apply update from SD card with the file previously loaded on it (Blur_Version.210.12.61.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US)

In the SU menu you can find a way to delete the root, but I don't think that is causing the error.
Can you please tell me the version of recovery your phone have? You may have installed a kit kat 4.4.2 recovery or one with a different build number and that's causing the error.

In the recovery menu, you should see the .61. I got the same problem as you and was using .32.
Did full factory reset, and installed stock again (w/o updating anything at all), when I checked the recovery, it was .61 and it updated perfectly.
In case you are really sure you got the actual last kitkat update firmware, you can try to extract the recovery.img and flash it using moto tool,
(rename it to StockKitkatrecovery.img and replace the one it brings with this one)

I solved my problem by myself, thanks anyway. The issue for me, was updating some apps once in 4.4.4. You should not to do it.
Explanation for dummies, as me, in order to get Lollipop 5.0.2:
1) Flash your phone (XT1032) with Retail US 4.4.4 Stock (RETAIL_XT1032_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.61_cid9_CFC.xml), as it follows:
A) Extract the Retail US 444. Stock zip file (475 MB)
B) Download this file too: (1,5 MB) https://www.dropbox.com/s/nlbrn71wfqyup4u/mfastboot-v2.zip?dl=0 , and unzip it inside the same folder as you extracted Retail US Stock zip file. All files together in the same path.
C) Put your phone on fastboot (turn off, and then press Vol-and Power 3 secs, and release both buttons). Connect your phone to USB port.
D) Inside the folder containing all all these files, press **** + right click and choose "open file command", and a CMD window will open.
E) Once in CMD window, execute one by one:
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
mfastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata

F) After reboot, unplug phone from USB port.
G) Done, you have now Stock Retail US 4.4.4 installed on your phone, Turn it on and set all things in order to go to home screen.
2)Once in the main screen , don't update your apps, no matter if they are even from Google or Motorola, don't do it
3) Download to your PC the OTA file (372 MB) Blur_Version.210.12.61.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US
4) Connect again your phone to USB port , and move OTA file to your phone SD Card
5) Once done previous step, go to Stock Recovery Mode. It is:
A)Turn Off your phone
B) Press Power and Vol- for 3 secs, then release
C) Select with vol- recovery option, and confirm it with vol+ button
D) Android Robot with exclamation sign will show up on the screen
E) Press vol+ and vol- for 5 secs, then press power once and release all the 3 buttons at the same time
F) Recovery Stock will appear you now.
6) Apply update from SD card with the file previously loaded on it (Blur_Version.210.12.61.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US). Select OTA file on "apply update from zip file".
7) Process will take up to 10-15 minutes aproximately. Voilá, you will have Lollipop 5.0.2 on your RetailUS mobile.

You cannot downgrade the 41.19 bootloader to the 41.13. If you try to do that you WILL hardbrick your phone. However you can downgrade from Lollipop to Kitkat 4.4.4 (I know because I am on the 41.19 bootloader and was on cm 12.1 but restored to 4.4.4 successfully).
You have to flash the firmware for your phone except for the gpt.bin and motoboot.img. Flash all the other files in the firmware for your phone without those two and you should be fine.

I'll never flash stuffs with Motorola recovery! Today I did a factory reset with the stock recovery and damn! it deleted all my files in the internal SD! IT would have never happened if I would have factory reset with TWRP!

For stock rooted/TWRP users, this is a step-by-step process of manually updating your Moto involving flashing stock firmware, updating, and restoring TWRP, root, and apps afterwards.
Benefits:
**It's really simple- once you get familiar with this process, you can do it fairly quickly.
**Take the time to read through and get everything set up and you'll be set for future updates.
**No begging the internet for flashable zips.
Preface:
So my situation is i'm running stock, bootloader unlocked, rooted, and xposed on my US XT1540 2GB Moto G. I went through the process this morning of updating to the new 23.46.4 update. Thought I'd share what I did for anyone out there wanting to update with questions ; hopefully some can be answered here. I'm familiar with flashing firmware files from my previous Moto X's '13 & '14 so trust me it's not a big deal to flash back stock firmware to update. This process should be applicable to any variant of the Moto G and and to any future updates as well, not just the one mentioned here as of 09/19/15. Just be mindful of your phone's version and use the appropriate firmware.
1) BACKUP
First, make sure everything worth keeping is on your microSD. Flashing stock firmware will wipe your phones internal memory so pictures, music, downloads, SMS, etc need to migrate. Also make sure you have SuperSU and Xposed on your microSD for re-installation. This might be obvious for some and you might have everything going to your microSD (sdcard1, EXTsdcard) already, but one thing you might miss is Titanium Backup...
Save apps in Titanium to microSD: Menu>Preferences>Backup folder location>Click to change>Ext. SD card>Create a new folder>Use current folder
Nandroid in TWRP to microSD: toward the bottom click on "Storage: Internal storage" and choose "Micro SDcard"
If you're super smart, after making that backup you'll copy that to your pc.
2) DOWNLOADS
Get the most recent firmware for your device from lost101's firmware thread (thank him threads like this are so helpful)- http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/index-moto-g-factory-firmware-images-t3169639
Download and install the drivers for you phone, I believe the generic android driver will work but you can also get them from Motorola Device Manager: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481
Download mini-sdk.zip, attached to the the bottom of this post. Useful light weight sdk containing adb & fastboot which should cover all your flashing needs. If you're not developing apps, full blown android sdk is bloatware
3) SETTING UP ADB/FASTBOOT
Enable USB debugging in Developer options
Extract mini-sdk.zip to a folder. Extract and add the contents of your firmware to that folder.
Open a cmd prompt on the mini-sdk folder (shift + right click, "Open Command Window Here")
Let's verify that adb sees the device:

Should see "XXserial#XX device". If you get "offline", be sure to check your phone for the adb authorization dialog.
We're ready to flash firmware so reboot into fastboot:

4) STOCK FIRMWARE INSTALLATION
Once phone is in fastboot, enter the following commands in the cmd prompt (open on the mini-sdk folder containing the firmware files) one at a time. Let the current flash command finish before entering the next, especially at the img_sparsechunck steps because they take a 10-15 sec each. Also make sure all of the filenames match what you have; substitute accordingly.

When you reboot, if you don't get prompted for update check for it- About phone>System updates
Download & install update
When update is finished and phone boots back up, enable Android debugging in developer options.
6) FLASH BACK TWRP/ROOT/XPOSED
Place TWRP img file in mini-sdk folder. Boot back into fastboot and flash TWRP.

Vol up/down in bootloader to boot recovery.
Once in recovery flash Supersu & xposed (optional of course) from your microSD and reboot.
Install Titanium from play store, go back into preferences and point to backup folder on the microSD and restore apps.
When xposed and modules are reinstalled through Titanium, you will need to reboot to enable. After that you'll need to tweak your preferences in system options like notifications or display, but any settings in modules (like gravity box) will be restored as long as you backed up app+data in TB. Easier than a custom rom clean flash in that aspect.
So that's it, with that you should be back up and running. Let me know if I missed some steps or if you have questions about the process.

I took all the color out and tweaked it a bit. I was using the dark theme and everything looked pretty good, but when I switched to the light theme... yeah annoying.
I'm still trying to decide if I want/need to root, and/or install a custom ROM on this phone. I have always done so on past phones, but this phone runs so well I don't want to mess it up, and I'm not sure the few features I'm missing warrant messing with things.

Why does every single guide say to erase the userdata partition??? This is totally unnecessary. Instead, boot into twrp and wipe your userdata. The difference is in your internal storage. If you follow the guide you wipe your internal storage in the very last command. My way, you just do a factory reset on the data partition which doesn't wipe the storage
Also, flashing stock recovery is an unnecessary step when it's being immediately replaced by twrp again.

This isn't a custom rom...it's the official motorola firmware update
Thanks for this guide , it's good to know, but I would have to wait for a flasheable UPDATE.zip because my phone's configuration (XT1543, dual sim, 16gb storage, 1gb ram) doesn't have a stock firmware download link in the main thread... and also I don't want to reinstall my apps , haha.
If it works like the other 2 generations of moto g, and at least with the first moto x (all from my personal experience) just skip the erase userdata part and you'll keep your personnal data.
Ota update will go smoothly, no need to restore anything afterwards except root and recovery, indeed.
A backup is always a good thing, sure just in case, but i never used mine on all the ota's I installed on those 3 phones (moto g 2013 16gb, moto g 2014 and moto x 2013)
I don't own a moto g 2015 but my gf does, a 16gb/2gb ram one, she just got it so she installed the update before rooting. If nobody tries it before I'll try it with the next update .

Please add "fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6" to the top post. This could prevent idiots from sitting in a boot loop for an hour, while they try furiously to find a way out, an error in the download, revert to a previous firmware... Yeah, that was stressful.

If you have stock recovery and an update touched /boot and /system partition, you can take an OTA update. If you have TWRP, root, or other modification in the mentioned areas you cannot take an OTA update.
Having an unlocked bootloader only is not relevant.
What if you unrooted, a rooted stock recovery device, is it safe to take an OTA?

No, doing a full unroot will return the original /boot partition, but be aware this will not undo any changes you made to /system with root access (such as debloating or Xposed modules), and even if you undo those changes, the Android system has already marked the /system partition as tampered so a check will fail.
From the first time i was not able to upgrade my phone to another new version of Android.
The phone was bought on chinese store with Android version : WW V10.40.47.107 (Android MM)
When i checked availability of new versions, phone showed me no result available.
Then following instructions i unlocked bootloader and then install TWRP as recovery system.
I tried to install updates of ROM downloaded from Asus website using this methods with this results :
installing by TWRP with ROM transfered to internal memory of phone KO
installing by "ADB sideload" command KO
I partially resolved after many attempts updating only to Version V11.41.87.2 (Android MM)
I solved in this way :
i used TWRP installing from file transfered directly in microSD
i extracted from zipped file "updater-script" file that is possible to find in the following folder path :
META-INF > com > google > android
and then deleted this rows :

During TWRP install process i got some error updates, it seems connected to System folder/partition update
but at the end i was able to update Android to my phone
I tried to do the same method with an other update Version V20.32.67.25 i got a corrupted System folder/partition
It seems essential to update this phone to use original recovery system. Can anyone give it to me?
Or is there someone who has been able to install updates using TWRP without any error ?
Also after installation I wiped the Boot, System, Data, Cache partitions and then I restored from Nandroid backup done by TWRP.
But the phone did not start at the reboot.
I then had to reinstall the update with the method described above to get the working phone back

Then you can flash the last M official rom, and subsequently the first and last N roms.
That's the way I did it. I had to end up wiping data, to make it work correctly.
I'm also looking for a Nougat recovery.img.
I wouldn't like to go thru all the process again if there is another update.

i think you need flash full firmware bro ,
1. Download newer version firmware
2. You need Convert system.New.DAT to system.img
3. Move system.img and boot.img to minimal adb & fastboot folder
4. Open minimal adb & fastboot
5. Flash boot.img and system.img

Just to let you know I did this then downloaded each update from Asus website. You have to do it in order ie newest MM to oldest N to newest N. Takes a lot of time but it works. I now have N on my phone.

After 11 hours trying out finally solved!!!
I originally just wanted to do a factory reset, and swiped then not only data/cache, but unfortunally - because of lack of expirience - also system partition. After that all the problems occured like described above and partitionally in https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/unbricking-zenfone-3-ze552kl-dm-verity-t3563970 (there was no OS anymore, twrp warned me this every time I wanted to power off, but I couldn't install the firmware again through fastboot neither through twrp -> install zip; have got error 7 or 6).

I have finally founded a solution!!! This is in FIRSTLY restoring original recovery and just then flashing the stock ROM. Here the steps to do for it:
a.) Download original stock rom (raw-version!) from https://cloud.mail.ru/public/HuMJ/wEybSNsQA (raw is to flash through AFT - asus flash tool) or from any other source you can find online; official name seems to be "WW-ZE553KL-20.31.49.2-MR2-user-20170620235128-release_raw.zip"
b.) Exctract and move recovery.img to your adb-folder on PC
c.) Boot your phone into fastboot/boot mode, connect to PC through USB-Cable
d.) Run cmd in adb folder, then type in the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
e.) Reboot and choose recovery mode - now you have no twrp anymore, but the original recovery menue
f.) Install update, which means, original stock from your sd-card.
Be happy!

Yes, I did it with my Zenfone 3 Zoom (ze553kl). So, you have firstly to flash the original recovery - to find, as described, in the raw stock rom zip archive. Or, you can find all original recovery's also here: (not tested by myself) https://mega.nz/#F!p90wgAaY!l1JbJilmAUEKTKWu43pT9w
Copy recovery.img to adb-folder, then flash it in fastboot mode in the cmd with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". Also copy the original stock rom with Android N to your sd-card and put it into your phone.
Then reboot your phone into recovery - now you have no twrp anymore, but original recovery. Install now the zip with Android-N-stock-firmware from sd-card. Enjoy!

Glad to hear, that it worked for you as well. About white line I have no idea, but on other pages I have already seen somewhere, that other users also reported about this problem. Try to look at google "ze553kl update white line". You can also search a solution for ze552kl instead of ze553kl, because, as far as I know, the ze552kl (ZenFone 3, without "Zoom") is almost the same device, just with a little worse cam. Therefore, it seems to be longer on the market and to have more users, so there are also more solutions for problems which can occure to this device in the internet. Wish you a good luck!

I must've messed something up when I flashed TWRP.
TWRP ran fine, but when I tried to start it up, it stayed stuck at the Android logo.
Then errors popped up when I tried to install the stock rom through TWRP.
I never would've thought or had the guts to restore stock recovery first.
This should get its own thread.
Edit: I think my mistake was unchecking "Mount system partition read-only."

After many days i finally found enough time to try to use your tips.
I tried to convert system.New.DAT to system.img but without success using this program Autotool 3.0

After this attempt i used a ROM provided by chinese store to flash its content :
system.img
boot.img
recovery.img
Original recovery.img is essential to install other updates.
After that i tried to install other updates recognized directly starting by phone but always without success.
So i have had to install updates using original recovery tool.
Now i got Android 7.1.1 last version installed on my phone but it's impossible to use
TWRP recovery tool.
Obviously it's possible to install TWRP instead of original recovery tool and also possible to make a nandroid backup
but it's impossible to use it to install original ROMs released from Asus and it's not possible
to use to restore nandroid backups.
Is it eventually possible to use a custom ROM ? If it's, which one and possibly compatible with TWRP ?
i solved issue of update, but TWRP ?

After many days I finally found enough time to try to update my Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom to Android Nougat.
To solve the issue, I used an original Rom from the Chinese store because it contains useful files for purpose without any conversion:
boot.img
system.img
recovery.img
I flashed all 3 IMG files.
Recovery.img that it's necessary to get original recovery without which any update can be done.
You must use a microSD and the original recovery tool to be able to upgrade your system.
The problem is that it does not seem possible to use TWRP. It is possible to install it in place of the original recovery and you can do also a nandroid backup but in practice you can not use it to install any updates and restore any nandroid backups.
Is there a custom rom that you can use instead of the original one?

I was messing around and deleted google play store, now none of the google apps works. I went a head to download gapps and tried sideloading it. It showed me the error, then i downloaded the pico version and also fix my system partition. It says i have 140mb of free space in that partition. I tried sideloading pico again and still the same error.

You're probably going to have to flash your phone back to stock to re-gain all of your apps.

Flashing Process
1.. Whichever full rom zip you choose, extract its contents. (In my case I used the 9.0.5 full zip)
2. In each zip file you'll find images.zip as well as others_flashall.zip, extract both of them into the same folder/directory as the rest of the original zip file.
(Optional, download the modded flash-all-partitions-fastboot.bat file at the end of the thread, it includes the reboot command to auto reboot when done flashing)
Attached Below is also a flash-all-partitions-fastboot.sh script for Mac OS users (Note this script will not wipe your device, so if you need to wipe, run the ./fastboot -w command in fastboot manually)
All bat files, images and adb files should all be in the exact same folder, no subfolder(s)
3. Now boot into fastboot using either the vol+/vol- and power key combo or via adb using the following adb command .
4. Once in fastboot run the bat file called flash-all-partitions-fastboot.bat

5. When asked, I would advise typing 'Y' for yes to format the device. (wipe only if you're converting for the first time)
The sparse header error is completely normal.
6. Upon completion, the script should pause and say press enter to continue, it will not reboot your device...
WAIT UNTIL NOTHING ELSE IS HAPPENING AND ITS NO LONGER FLASHING ANY FILES
At this point, hit power and reboot.
All done!

-Advisable you disable automatic updates in developer options upon boot if it is enabled.
-Do not attempt to update using the OTA files, so far we've had one softbrick due to it and said user was unable to boot into fastboot to attempt any kind of recovery.

I would follow this guide. Than choose Y when asked to wipe data. If you want to choose N let me know how it goes. But the easiest way is going to be to start from fresh using this guide by @Darknightmare.

OK. So I wiped everything and trying to install miui_DAVINCIEEAGlobal_V10.3.12.0.PFJEUXM_946a02f6df_9.0 with TWRP... I was trying to install through fastboot and I got the anti-rollback error.
The issue that I have now is that it keeps booting into recovery!? Help!

You can try flashing the stock fasboot ROM using Miflash. Just make sure to open the script and delete every line that refers to anti rollback protection, basically every line until the lines that starts with fastboot.
Use these links. You need .tgz file decompress it twice, till you have ordinary folders and files (cca 6,5GB). Then use MiFlash 2017 version (in the bottom right corner is option, if you also want to lock your bootloader). Put your phone to fastboot and flash it. It takes about 15 minutes and then you have clean phone.
