How can I quit MIUI to copy my pics from my SD card - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Can any of you stop this process?
Actually, I tried SD card to set as internal storage, used the app you mentioned here -- can't remember it's name... some kind of Launcher, so it's possible that though it didn't work on my phone, but has made some changes to my phone are cannot make back to the original factory settings -- I guess this is why I can see what should be hidden system process... I downloaded the ... Launcher from Google Play Store, so it is legal!

This is what I wrote to Xiaomi
Hi there,
I know I've had some issues up to now. It is one more.
Can you happen to tell me why it is allowed to use an SD card if MIUI Gallery stores all my personal data??? In this case all my saved pics??? Why??? In my point of view you aka MIUI are spying on me! Your File Manager makes it clear. I delete my pics from MIUI Gallery and soon after they are all back again in your folder and phone is keeping remind me that there's not enough free space!
Actually, I had to make a Factory Recovery again. Somehow I needed to recover some files including videos. I had to buy an app to can do this... but videos cannot be recovered only if the phone is rooted...
No, I don't use my MI account as it is like some kind of ransomware!!! My online store is full all the 5GB is in use. Actually, I acceded... How did I do that? Why did you save my date over the limit of 5GB? I was told to buy more storage to get my stored data back... What??? Delete all my data stored in my MI account! I don't care! How dare you threatening me not making my data accessable to me only in case I pay for more storage?!
I bought an SD card not logged in my MI account, but you still keep my new data???
This is insane!
I am waiting for your reply and explanation!

[Q] Forced reset and phantom photos

OK, I don't get this at all and need a little help.
About two weeks ago I was locked out of my phone (a problem some of you may have seen posted more than a few time).
I am synched with the Exchange server here at work and they force out a password policy. After too many tries, soft resets and other the damn thing wiped ALL my data including my SD card.
Since then I have hacked the registry and disabled the lock policy (sorry MIS).
I had a LOT of pictures on that SD card (kids, family et al). Luckily I had off-loaded most of them just before the wipe took place, but I did lose quite a few save for about a week's worth.
Since reestablishing my "Album" and directing it to the SD card I am now saving pics as I had been (SD Card), but on my device there are these phantom images!
Some of them are pictures that I lost! I don't know how as they were being stored on the old SD card, but they are listed as on "my device" and every single one in their own separate folder (ie. 110C4E1, 14AE0F4B, etc.) listed when I go to the Album tab and then press "albums" again twice.
In addition, some of the photos are only thumbnail size while some are the originals in their full glory.
Added to this I see separate folders holding a multitude of pics from browsing and facebook!
I cannot find a centralized location to either recover the photos that I had lost and/or clean out the ones I don't need (it looks like browser cache).
I was able to send myself one of the photos by email and it had a ridiculously long name (40322_424045451143_521416143_4867882_1223745_n.jpg). This was one of the photos of one of my kids! I have it, but I want to find the directory where it resides and just can't even when using search features.
PLEASE NOTE: They are on my device, not my SD card as HTC was kind enough to send me a new SD card noting there have been some faulty ones about. The SD card in there is brand new.
There is no DCIM folder on my device as I store all my photos on my SD card.
Also note: after the wipe I did four hard resets...FOUR and these photos are somehow still in my device! I am thankful, but why are they there and how can I recover them?
Thanks for reading this far and hopefully some guidance will be forthcoming.
Any ideas on these photos?
I know that some of them are facebook avatars...where are those stored on the device?
I just need the path!

[q] apps and games i have saved on my sd card are not being read on my phone

applications and games ive downloaded and moved to my sd card are not showing in my list of applications. i can not use them at all with the few ways i tried. i cant download apps from the market i hit ok n it doesnt do anything. i cant uninstall apps. i cant install apps ive acquired from other sites. when i go into manage applications and click on any and "all apps" that are saved on my sd card n "on my phone" it will not show the memory used it will just show computing for everything in data and cache. i have learned that if i remove my memory card all apps that are saved to my phone will delete if if i want to delete them with the exception of preinstalled apps. my phone can download and it shows the memory use of applications in the app manager. i have tried i few tricks like signing into google n deleting data n cache from google apps and it worked, however when i shut my phone off then back on it went back to the same problem. i dont remember exactly the steps i took to get it to work because i did follow the steps but then tried a few other things that i cant recall and my phone worked properly with my sd card installed. now i try the same steps i learned but they are not working. i have no idea what to do. my phone is rooted but thats all i have done, i havent manipulated any files or installed any roms. i have however downloaded a few apps for rooted droids one being autostarts and this is where i think i may have went wrong but im not sure. when i downloaded autostarts i went crazy stopping apps that auto start to save battery life but and i dont know if i may have stopped something critical to my phone functioning properly but i cant check because autostarts is saved on my sd card and i my phone wont read apps on my sd card in a way where i can actually use them. so this is my problem i didnt make any back ups i dont want to reformat my sd card or buy a new sd card i dont think that will solve my problem anyway i dont want to wipe my phone because theres just too much on my phone. i just need to learn what i can do to fix this problem. please help n if u can ill buy you a gift on amazon and have it shipped to you or donate to this site if i knew how to do that lol... ill will attach a text doc showing the steps i took that worked for my phone but stopped working after i turned off my phone then turned it back on... p.s. it wouldnt work again because i cant delete data and caches from apps the apps memory use stays stuck on computing
I have a droid 2
sorry for all the typos ive been up for awhile
i havent tried this tip yet that i found because i just dont know what effect it will have on my phone...
THE "FOR ROOTED PHONES ONLY" LIST
(if you have to ask what that is, you probably can't/shouldn't do it)
- Delete the file system/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db (or, alternatively, the whole /data/data/com.android.providers.settings directory)
- Add an entry to the HOSTS file at system/etc/hosts for android.clients.google.com (IP address for the entry varies per location, I'm in the US and used 74.125.93.113 -- this seems to primarily address proxy issues, which may be encountered by wireless users in China)
this is in the txt.doc i posted. i only did the tips listed under easy list in the txt doc
i think im going to try removing my sd card clearing the data for all the google apps then putting my sd card back in and see if that helps.
nope didnt work... also just a side note when i go into manage applications then click "on sd card" i can see my apps there with no icon logos next to its title but again i cant see its data usage and cache its stuck on computing and i cant see my apps that are installed on my sd card in my list of apps i can only see that the apps are still there when i go into manage applications then click "on sd card"
ok well i was getting really frustrated considering new non android smarthphones new service providers the works lol then i thought for a moment and said hmm maybe i just have to many apps and games saved directly to my phone and my poor phone cant handle anymore. so i removed my sd card turned on my phone and started deleting a few apps to give my phone more memory. i then again turned off my phone inserted my sd card turned on my phone and viola the phone is working properly again. i was binge eating downloads never once considering the memory on my phone smh poor phone lol well i lost the weight and my phone feels great. thanx me hopefully this will help someone else in the future.
smh im still having the same problems i dont event think it was a memory issue because simply deleting content doesnt even get my phone to read my sd card properly can anyone help
smh posting on this site was completely useless just like androids app dependent os
holy novenary post, batman. did you try sbf/factory reset or formatting the sd card?
yup factory reset n still had the same problem, and format sd card heck no are u crazy are u so completely senile youve lost all grasp of reality lol what i did do is put a knew sd card ran everything as normal removed the memory card deleted smdl2tmp1.asec file then installed the memory card ran everything as usual removed that memory card and replaced it with my original memory card with all files in the .asec folder deleted n now it has been working fine.
i think its so awesome that this site can teach you in detail how to void ya warranty in every way but for any actual real maintenance recovery n repair questions its all thumbs
knew = new lol

[Q] pictures in external SD

i took pictures of a recent family vacation and organized them into albums in gallery. i know that the picture files went straight to the external sd card but when i organized them they were moved to the internal memory. are the raw files still in the external sd despite being moved? will a recovery sofware still find them? i made the mistake of wiping the internal sd so all the pictures are lost and the limitation of not being able to mount it makes it all but impossible to recover anything from there.
its pretty much impossible to recover anything on flash memory. I think you're scrwed
Unfortunately I think you're out of luck.
That sucks... you'll just have to take the vacation again.
By default they go internal and you have to tell the camera to store external... are you sure you moved them the other way around??
There are programs that claim they can help restore data from SD cards. Some are free, some are pay. The best advice I can give you is to do a Google search for such programs and look at reviews. It would not be appropriate to list them here due to rules. All of the ones that I have known people to try all give mixed results. Some work and some do not. Good luck.

All Pictures disappeared from gallery?

Like the title says, my wife is pretty upset. I got us both new unlocked s8+'s from best buy just prior to our cross country trip with our kids.
No SD card installed.
She took 200+ pictures and today they are gone. Only videos remain in the gallery, in my files, or even using a file explorer.
I called Samsung, waste of my time.
Google drive is the only cloud app being used (for documents), pics aren't there.
Any advice or thoughts? I've seen older posts on forums of this happening on android phones and not of the fixes have worked. (Clear cache, search for and remove .nomedia files)
Thanks,
Dave

Samsung has a junk file cleaner so you can get rid of unnecessary files. Your wife might have accidentally included her photos while getting rid of unnecessary files. You can ask her about this but besides that I don't know why the photos are lost (probably due to hardware error).

I'll ask her but I don't think k she did, it still says it can recover 1.5+gigs of space.
I used one of them file digger apps, I was able to retrieve all the smaller 200kb cached pictures from thumbnails and what not, but from what I've read you need root to recover the full size images...
There are a lot of stories of this happening to people when I search it and all different devices. So I hope it's not hardware. SD card going in and Google photo backup being turned on, just like the data thieves wanted us to do in the first place.....

If internal then she must have done something, if pics dissapear from sdcard its most like corrupt, best is to have that when u take pics it automatically syncs to a cloud service for backup.

Are you going to root? Afaik you can only do that on the exynos version (not usa)
Correct. No root available yet/ever, was just saying root seems like the only way people are getting back full res lost photos.

What gallery app are you using? Did she hide or exclude any folders by accident?
Thirdly, try running a recovery programme. You can get for free on the net. So long as she has taken no further photos or put anything else on hard drive should be able to recover.
Finally check all folders on phone and also check camera app settings to ensure the folder they are saving too is correct.
This issue is not exclusive to the S8 and looking around the internet this is an existing yet unsolved issue on certain Samsung devices. I'll post here to add a bit of extra information.
My mom's Note 4 also had the same exact issue where the pictures just flat out disappeared. (Pictures, videos, screenshots). No traces of it in any folders even with a different file browser. Issue happens again and again with no pattern or known cause. I told her to buy an SD card for it this time so if it did happen again, I have full access to the storage medium. I then set the camera to save to the SD card and let her use it as usual. Guess what, the problem happened again today.
This time I took the SD card, popped it into my PC and ran Recuva recovery. I was able to recover a few intact pictures and videos from it.

No root available for S8 yet so none of the recovery tools work, your photos are really gone, that's so sad.
Suggest keep your Google photos sync on and regular backup of your entire phone with Samsung Smart Switch PC version.
See if this help to recover photos from Samsung Galaxy S8+.
Why do you need root to access recovery programme?

Exactly. I've tried multiple gallery apps, file explorers and android file recovery programs (which all end up requiring root).
I don't know why root is required to access the non-root folders for a deep scan, but they do.
I was hoping there was a way with ADB that I could make a copy on the computer to then scan, but I think it's probably a waste of time now.
And yes, it was internal storage like everyone days.
I'm hesitant to use any of the cloud backup programs because of some the vulnerabilities I don't agree with. We don't even put pictures of our kids on Facebook. Which is the most secure and least likely that I'm "agreeing to allow them to use the pictures for anything", because most programs say that in the TOS.
FOR NOW, we put an sd card in. If this seems to be a software issue, should we reset her phone or reflash the unlocked firmware with odin? I wonder if a specific app could be related to it.
I convinced her to not return the pho e, but now I'm not sure it's worth keeping if it's possible to happen again.

You guys can try a factory reset. I am actually going to observe this phenomenon happen. Also my mom doesn't like loosing her game saves. I told her to copy her pictures and videos frequently to her laptop in case it happens again (and it will happen again).

Try the below app from play store. This can help you setup an easy and automated backup to a local computer or a NAS.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sweesoft.sweethome
The app can be set to auto backup on connection to the home wifi or when connected to the charger and your home wifi at the same time.

Galaxy S8 photos vanished
Many thanks for this post. I suffered from exactly same problem yesterday. This is the first time ever I had this problem with Samsung. I have been user of Samsung S2, S5 and now S8.
I am extremely disappointed that one of the most expensive mobiles has caused this problem. I am going to contact samsung about it because many important picture files lost.
The only precipitant was that my battery completely drained out yesterday and when I turned it on there was loss of photos last from three days.
This is completely unacceptable service from such an expensive mobile. I am very upset. My camera photos gets saved in SD card and are backed up by samsung cloud as well as in google drive.
Please help me with suggestions to recover the lost data.
Samsung s8 plus issues lossing pictures
Thought samsung is the best of the best in phones software and the rest all in one phone but clearly I was wrong I lost loads of pictures on my samsung s8 I sold yesterday and my samsung s8 plus now doing the same thing to lost 100plus pics to I'm going sell this one it's my contract phone but I don't care I just carry on paying it off but I get better phone then this that I can trust....best ones are Vodafone platinum 7 and Vodafone v8 so far are the best phones money can buy reliable to and trustworthy..... samsung makers are in software they need to do better much more improvements to
Please help me.
My problem was: suddenly my pictures disappeared from the Samsung Gallery App, but they do exist on several folders for ex. DCIM/Camera. Why arent they appearing inside Samsung Gallery? I did nothing different than what I usually do... I am so mad about this! I even did factory reset and I still cant see my pictures on Samsung Gallery
Same issue here. Just moved over from iPhone.
I've noticed that so far the pics affected have been in their own albums. One was hidden and one wasn't. 1 photo remains from the one that wasn't hidden. I think it only remains because I had texted the pic to someone.
Internal storage.
Developer Mode On.
Auto Update Off.
Have connected phone to a PC via USB prior to issue.
Images don't show in the file folders when I browse them from the My Files app, either. They're gone.
The other odd thing is this may have only started after changing this device name in About Phone.
Anyone else have a changed device name?
You guys should sync with Google Photos!

Huawei P10 Lite - Expanding Internal Memory

Just bought a Huawei P10 Lite, was mainly looking for an Android 7.0 phone due to the newish Android feature of using an SD card to extend the internal memory and the P10 Lite seemed the most feature-rich phone at the price point.
To my horror there doesnt seem to be an option in the Memory & Storage options to configure the SD card as internal storage. I searched online but nothing about this phone and extending the internal storage which seems odd as I thought it was a popular phone. I noticed a post regarding the P8 where a user stated Huawei hadn't included this Android feature (seems bizarre) and they gave instructions on how to root the device and do something strange to it.
Surprised no one talking about it!
There's definitely an option to use the SD card as your main storage device in storage section as I used it before. What firmware is your on right now? It worked fine for me on my WAS-LX1AC185B172
If 32 gigabytes is not enough for you, then i don't know how much is enough. 128GB maybe?
Anyways, there is an option in "Memory & storage" called "Default location", which basically switches the internal storage for the SDcard. This is what you're looking for.
I think OP means adoptable storage - a feature introduced in Marshmallow. It merges your external and internal storage into one large pool. It, however, prevents the card from being portable. The card is formatted specifically to your device and I believe it'll cause problems with the device function if removed anyway.
I don't think Huawei supports it. I have only found the option to flip the default storage location. It may be available through some of the format options but I'm not too keen on risking it wiping my card if it doesn't give me a prompt if I was to test it.
It may be possible to force it through ADB commands. Not sure though.
Hi all yes specifically referring to adoptable storage.
I have set the SD card as "Default Storage" but in my experience it doesnt mean more than the system storing user data like photos and music on the SD card which is a no brainer really (why would a user even need to set this as an option?). Doesn't seem to be any info about what this actually does on this phone though. I can't even see an option to move Apps to the SD card on the P10 Lite but that was always a bizarre and tediously repetitive and half-hearted operation on my old Samsung S5, even if an App supported it, after an update it would just revert back to internal phone storage.
Many of my messaging apps have bloated databases that grow to over 1Gb in size after a couple of years let alone the bloatware of most apps in general. I notice that some messaging apps even keep media files inside the internal filesystem structure which ends up being the internal memory space. I would rather this was instead eating up cheap SD card space than the faster internal memory left for just the OS.
Considering that half of the phone storage is used up by the time you first turn it on, the adoptable storage funcationality introduced in Android Marshmallow is a gods send. Can't believe phone manufactures are trying to protect product placement with their 32GB and 64GB models to the extent of leaving out a flagship Android feature!
God data storage on Android is still a mess after all these years!

The SD card isn't as fast. That's one reason they don't want you to install apps onto it. It degrades the experience. And without an API of some sort it would be difficult to implement an app structure that split the data to place non-vital data on the card. Many devices don't have slots so it isn't an area developers give much thought.
If you use the format option, does it give you any option to select adoptable storage or is it just erase?
Otherwise I guess your best option is to try look for ADB commands or maybe even root.
Edit: I found an option to allow apps on external storage in developer settings if you scroll all the way to the bottom.
I used an SD card to store my Here we Go and Sygic maps when travelling.
Until I took a break from driving one day, connected an USB OTG cable with usb stick to the device and all my maps from the internal SD were gone.
From that day on I never install any data that is used by an app on the SD card. (and never had problems with it anymore)
Documents or music are no problem.
Spotify on P10 lite
Spotify in itself is using up most of my internal storage.
How can I move the songs from there to the SD card? If I can't then remind me never to buy a phone with less than 64GB internal memory next time.
The reviews all seemed too good to be true!!

I tried logging out and in again, but no difference.

I have to ask: you do have an SD card mounted, right?
Do you have the latest version of the Spotify app?
Do you have the latest ota update?
Have you tried clearing app data and cache?
Have you tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling?
However if you can't send texts then you have bigger problems. It may be related, it may not be.
Have you tried with another phone with the same sim? Have you tried a factory reset?
Did you try this???

Yes, SD card mounted and storing photos on it.
I have uninstalled the app and downloaded it again. I still do not see the option to store the songs to the SD card though.
What is the ota update and how do I run it?
If I clear app data and the cache will I lose all the songs saved to date?
I have yet to download all the many songs again, so that has freed up loads of storage. So I can send texts again.

OTA update just means the latest version/update for the phone. Check for system updates.
I can't guarantee what happens to your songs but I would assume that those are not stored locally if it's just a list (you did say you cleared some out to regain space). I would assume you'd be able to access the same list from any device as long as you are logged in. Otherwise that's pretty bad design considering their business model.
If you have very little space on your phone the system will start to get sluggish and if really low system functions will stop working.
Can you tell me the version number of the Spotify app? The reason I'm asking (besides making sure it's the same as the one I downloaded) is that I seem to recall Spotify cutting support for their old app and launching a new one to replace it.
But if you do have the new app, then either something's wrong with the compatibility of your phone/sd card/app or it's because you can't switch storage while data is stored (kinda like an initial setup) hence clearing app data could fix it.
If it's still not working I may have one last trick up my sleeve.

That's the same one I tested.
Try go into your app settings and make sure Spotify has the right permissions granted.
If it's still not working (also make sure you have plenty space on SD card) then clearing the data is probably the best solution. Apparently it deletes preferences and offline playlists (whatever that means). I'm not sure if it affects your playlists or if you can save them online so you can retrieve them later. Otherwise make a backup of: internal storage/Android/Data/com.spotify.music/ just in case.
Rebooting the phone can also sometimes help by the way.

Thanks, what are the right permissions for Spotify in app settings?

Storage access I guess. I don't think there's explicitly an SD card permission (at least not to my knowledge).
I also wondered if you had tried formatting the SD card?
