WM 7 For Elf/in

An official screenshot in a series of leaked Windows Mobile 7, although nothing official has been announced yet. Word on the street has it that this new operating system will be made available to OEMs before the year is over, and we can see Windows Mobile 7-powered handsets by the time spring 2010 rolls around. What do you think about the screenshot - is it the real deal? And will It be cooked for our lovely ELF/in???
Surely yes.but as of now,all the news is not to be believed.we need to wait.
WM7 uses a different version of WinCE as compared to WM5/6/6.1/6.5/6.5.1/6.5.3 (which all use the same version) so the drivers and the nk.exe files will probably not be compatible. Unfortunately, this means that (more than likely) no one will get this ported unless an official ROM is released. (Not to mention WM7 will probably have higher hardware requirements.)

[Q] Windows Developer Preview on SGT

Is there a way to boot windows developer preview on Samsung Galaxy Tab? I know, maybe the processor is not compatible but im asking only!
The ARM version has not been released yet, so - no, you cannot run WDP on Galaxy Tab.
and WHEN you get your ARM windows8, you just need all the SGT drivers compiled for ARM, and then ALL the windows x86 applications from the last 10 years time to properly use windows on your tablet, otherwise its just another helpless tablet with a Market just started with 5 apps available..
So no matter if windows8 gets to be released on ARM processor, you will have to wait just about 2-5 years before it becomes your pc replacement as all drivers and apps and developers are still x86 only..
So wait for the nvidia Tegra4 release in late 2012/2013 and you might even have a 8core platform ready for windows9 when its stable..

its facts with an idea of how lost you get even with the operating system in place.
and you already got windows8 on a tegra device as Nvidia presented their tegra3 on it, so it works but do they have anything else but a OS?

Windows 8 on the Iconia

I don't want this to become a discussion of which OS is better, but does anyone think there will be a windows 8 install available for the A500? I read that windows 8 will support arm. Just curious.
Sent from my A501 using Tapatalk
No, the drivers aren't there for it, but they may release an upgrade for the w500 which was acers windows version of out tablet. It had different hardware specs than the a500.
Tegra 3 tablets will supposedly run Windows 8 (ARM Edition).
youtube.com/watch?v=HWOOefm_rwo
Tegra 3 tablets designed for windows will run windows 8, tegra 3 tablets designed for android won't. That is the same as the tegra 2 tablets, if you bought a Acer W500 it came with windows and you can't upgrade it to android because the driver support isn't there. The tablets came with different parts inside. Without the drivers your out of luck.

You cannot compare to W500: W500 isn't a Tegra 2 tablet.
Windows 8 ARM (WHERE ARE YOU)
This question has been asked and talked about over and over again...
I do think it all depends on the windows 8 arm version.. myself because of the way linux is partitioned. The way our device is partitioned Size of boot / system partitions and OF course the protected boot loader.. IT will take some very extreme hacks to just get it installed .then there is the whole drive thing people are talking about.Thou many tegra devices shares alot of hardware. and there is a huge chance that this device could have the same hardware as in camera bluetooth gps and so on as the w500. im almost Positive its the same with the camera and bluetooth . as i have a acer and a gateway notebook that share these same common hardware chip type devices the chinon (i think is proper spelling) for cam . the iconia has this cam chip as well .
if you factor all of this together.. Someone would really have to want it VERY BAD.. or microsoft will have to do alot of testing with ACER .
the short answer is .. FLIP A COIN WILL Bring just as good answeres until its out in beta..
An answer from Acer technical support
I ask gently to the technical support if Windows 8 Will be ported to the Iconia Tab A501 and the answer was really short ...
NO
So, if some people work on it to build one for us, we will have it. Other else, too bad

Yes, isn't that what we said already? Why is it that hard to believe?
Win8ARM will not be sold separately, it can only come preinstalled. Secondly, Microsoft is only allowing it on fully locked-down devices; no open bootloaders for you. Thirdly it'll be very hard to even get admin access because Win8ARM doesn't allow sideloading; all and every single application must come from the Windows Store. No, you cannot run or install stuff from USB or Flash or network shares. All these things considering it'll be a wonder if someone can even copy the ROM successfully, let alone make it run on a device which doesn't have Secure Boot.
Short answer: NO, A500 WILL NOT GET WIN8.
A slight taste of the Near future .

OVER The past 10 years i have been saying. been protesting. that eventually that if this locked device and embedded software is not stopped with laws .All electronic devices will end up with a very short end of life from manufacturers. Well folks its here. If Microsoft does the above. Well even they will push minor but much needed updates like security fixes on old devices devices and make them OBSOLETE much sooner by not supporting new much needed technology to keep devices viable..
This by the way Microsoft has been two faced from MS . there statement is ( THe manufacture has a choice rather to lock a device or not but they believe the end use should have a right to choose what os to run on there device. They say in this statement they are confident everyone will choose ms software ) This statement i disagree with . the only way to protect our right to have unlocked devices is to take it to the COURTS. But with all the recent activity about piracy this is a fight that will Be very hard and a long battle. EMBEDED SYSTEMS IS THE FUTURE AND WILL COST CUTTING EDGE CONSUMERS BILLIONS. Someone very good with web development start a TRUE WEBSITE TO PROTEST THIS.. many will join in and make this fight start now before its to late..
YES The above sounds like a conspiracy just do some research then post your opinion . Sorry op of this is off topic but its kinda related..

Actually, you're slightly incorrect there; Microsoft says that only about PCs, ie. PCs must have Secure Boot enabled, but the manufacturer can decide whether or not to allow end-users to disable that. But on ARM devices Secure Boot MUST be enabled and there must be absolutely no way for end-users to disable that or the manufacturer won't be allowed to sell Windows 8.

YES you are Totally correct. Sorry .. . either way Its bad news for the consumer.Giving manufactures this ability
Microsoft had Windows 7 working on ARM tablets 2 years ago. They are obviously looking at this potential market.

while I don't doubt the A50x will not see Win8, I do have to say... What Microsoft WANTS and what we the users DO seldom go hand in hand
Nope
I can't understand why people even think that this could be possible? the ONLY chance you'd see WinRT running on A500 is that m$ used it as a development platform...like HTC HD2 got wp7. Also, you need someone inside to leak the test OS....
Porting an ARM OS it's all about proper drivers, considering the ARM version and SOC design are somehow on the same gen. Nobody is insane enough to try and port a CLOSED OS. Even if it wasn't closed tight, porting and tweaking drivers is a hell of a job...just look at Android ( a Linux based, open source OS), how hard is to get rid of bugs because manufacturers like to keep the drivers closed source.
Also, it is imperative for MS,in order to get a chance in tablet market, to have a close-to- flawless OS,just like IoS, where the bugs are scarce. getting this job done requires at least two big choices to be made. You can only do that by completely opening the whole OS and hardware, therefore rely on a full pool of devs< nobody's choice> or you can do it by having clearly drawn/ restricted hardware devices, like WP7 phones and IOS devices.
I don't believe in locked down BLs, but I see no way that an Android native device will ever run WinRT.
It will of course happen, but it will take tremendous work to do. This always happens to an allegedly locked down OS... case in point- Hackintoshs where people install OSX onto a PC. People were even putting Android onto old WinMo handsets.
But you inevitably end up with a device that doesn't work as well as the original. Drivers were mentioned, plus there's being off the update/patch path, and plain & simple bugs that always crop up.
tl;dr: Yes, expect it. No, it won't work well.

Golden opportunity for Intel and AMD!

And maybe for people who want Windows 8 tablets.
I've been thinking about this one. Windows 8 RC1 (or whatever the new name is supposed to be) is supposed to be out the first week of June.
A smart x86 chip manufacturer could begin shipping tablet computers at that point. They can't ship Windows 8, but according to reports from Paul Thurott and others the Windows 8 upgrade is cheap. Something like $15. http://www.winsupersite.com/blog/supersite-blog-39/windows8/windows-8-pro-pc-upgrade-cost-15-143077Windows 8 Pro PC Upgrade Cost is Just $15.
Eventually Microsoft will announce a free upgrade date as they always do. "Any purchase of Windows 7 after xx/xx/xxx will qualify for a free upgrade."
The big opportunity here is for x86 tablet makers to be able to bring their product to market 4+ months ahead of the ARM versions.
Buy a Win 7 tablet the first week of June, install the Win 8 RC1 for free and upgrade later for at most $15.
The ARM has to ship with the OS installed and has to wait until October.
If I was a vendor of x86 machines I'd be salivating at the opportunity to get ahead of the market. Nothing illegal going on. Still just selling a device that Microsoft says will be compatible (a Windows 7 PC will be compatible with the Windows 8 OS). Microsoft is making the OS available to the public in June, why wait to make the hardware available? The consumer preview was over 1,000,000 downloads on a quick search. People obviously aren't afraid to install the OS themselves.
Just a thought. Would you buy a x86 based Windows 7 tablet in June if the features were right and the price was right?
I don't want windows 8, personally, I think this would be great. A nice thin, light ivy bridge windows 7 tablet would be awesome for me.
Or maybe the lava xolo could run windows 7. I'm keeping an eye on the forums to see if any enterprising devs try this hehe.

there is a fundamental flaw in your suggestion
you are wanting manufactures to ship Win 8 hardware now with win 7 on it to allow an upgrade at a later date?
ok but what you have forgotten is that right now, every OEM out there is scrambling to shift as much dead stock of older Win 7 generation as they can before it is completely devalued.
The only OEMs that would do as your suggesting is new starts without Win7 hardware, or OEMs that have already sold out, the latter is extremely unlikely.
But even then you need to take in to account devices already in the supply chain, Mega PC shop who still has 1000s of units wont want to push newer ones if the older ones will get left to gather dust, they have already paid for these devices and sure as hell wont want to waste that money.
So its a nice idea, but its a bit ideological.

Android M for Cricket Galaxy Grand Prime SM-G530AZ

Google announded Android M today... So when will we get Android M (Mars Bar) for Cricket Galaxy Grand Prime SM-G530AZ
After all the Android L is so yesterday and we only have some KitKat 4.4
Sorry to break this to you, but we most likely won't get it.
Why not. This is what gets me upset.. Microsoft with Windows 10 and apple push updates to the phone... Why can't Google handle android updates for the base operating system. Microsoft will be doing it with Windows update tool. It is a black eye that about a year later after 5.x came out most phones don't have it. Stupid crappie like this makes me love apple more and more.

android is very open, which makes it impossible for google to update all the devices in market to the latest android version.
Dude, I won't even get the Lollipop update in my country..

I am not a hater. I own a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and before that I owned a Nokia 1320, Nokia 635, Nokia 630, Nokia 5xx all on Cricket. Before that I used an unlocked Moto g 2nd edition, a Moto G 1st edition... I started about 10 years ago on Windows Mobile on a HTC Apache PPC6700 by UTStarcom on Sprint, then had the HTC Mogul, Palm Treo WIndows, HTC Touch Diamond, and some others... So I went back to Windows Phone and liked it but the applications are missing and no official google apps other then google search. I am simply saying that if Microsoft is now going to push updates to all Win 10 Phones then why cant google do it as well. This issue here with the updates taking over a year to get to phones other then the most expensive flag ship models is stupid. Now granted Apple has far less phones to deal with from the 4 to the 6plus but they do it as well... Microsoft does it with even the windows phone 8 devices from the developers preview program for $20... Hell i would pay google a small upgrade OS fee just to get them when google releases a new version. I would even wait maybe 60 days after the nexus gets it if i had to but not 1 year... Perhaps google needs to ban the custom skins and all and have everyone compete on hardware and look and feel of the device. and yes i do change my phone every few months after getting tired of it... But this Grand Prime is nice as it handles the encryption on the 64bit cpu and i dont see any real performance hit. For my 15 year old son I have for him a ZTE Grand X Max Plus that is cool but does not have nfc....

I hate Google too with this i don't care if there are lots of phones Google should make the drivers avaiable for all developers and companies so they can make some newer version of Android it doesn't have to be with all features just like Apple is doing for 4/4S releasing iOS 9 Lite that doesn't have all the features google should do this to all phones weak or old. But they don't give a damn.... :/
Should Google also lock down the OS like Windows Mobile is doing when it comes to the launcher
We should have massive protests over android updates... We should do a sit in at Google headquarters
Wow, this sort of ignorance must be what creates Apple fanboys. Android, unlike either of the mobile OS examples you gave, is OPEN SOURCE. They do not develop the updates for your device, that is done by your carrier our by the manufacturer (i.e. Samsung) at the carrier's request. Google does not develop the "drivers" you've mentioned, again that's the device manufacturer. Google makes the OS source and all APIs available to all carriers and manufactures. One of those parties, most likely your carrier, decides if they feel it would be advantageous to build (or pay for) an official update for your device model.
This is very basic information and common knowledge. If you don't know how it works, then obviously you cannot work it. Next time please Google before you bash Google.
