Theorycraft Tegra 3

Pure speculation at this point, but anyone who might have more insight than the rest of us chime in on the full power of a Tegra 3 that we are supposed to be seeing in the next Transformer.
Specifically my wife is giving me the ultimatum on my PS2 game discs that are gathering dust. I adamantly insist that I'll see a PS2 emu on the Tegra 3 so I am saving all my PS2 RPG's for that day. She thinks I am being a packrat.
Only you can save my PS2 discs from the salvation army!
Don't hold out hope for a PS2 emulator on Android any time soon. The current PS1 emulators barely run at full speed, even when overclocked. On PC, you need about a 4Ghz CPU clock to run most PS2 games at full speed. It's all because the PS2 runs on a unique architecture that no one has yet been able to optimize for current hardware, and Sony has never been nice enough to open source the PS2 for emulators.
My advice? Rip all of your PS2 games to a hard drive, then get yourself a brand new gaming PC and overclock the crap out of it.
Hm, I never had any gaming device other than the original nintendo... and I got that from a garage sale. Man, you people are spoiled.

Thanks for the honest answer.
An even different point of view: the PS3 can't emulate via software the PS2. And Sony kinda knows how a PS2 works

Play Playstation 3 games on Xperia?

The last console I had was Super Nintendo... so there is so much I don't know. Is it possible to play Playstation 3 through the Xperia Play anywhere online? Or any other console for that matter...
You cant play with ps3 gamers or anything but there is a thing called Onlive which you can download and it lets you play PS3. 360 Pc Games like borderlands, crysis etc but you need a good internet connection.
I did hear when ps suite comes out we can do cross platform with the vita and ps3 on some of the mini games but that will probably never happen.

+1 OnLive
Onlive is the best app in the world
Onlive is what your search. The XPERIA play don´t have such power to emulate natively the PS3... even a high profile PC can´t

It's recommended to have a 5mb download speed or more.

Can I use the Xperia Play as a PS3 controller ? I'm not rooted.
There is currently no easy way to connect your xperia play as a ps3 controller, or to get remote play working on it.
Seems like a no brainer for sony, but I learned long ago that the playstation division of sony indeed had no brain.
I managed to get a PS2 game converted which played OK, but not a PS3 game.

Or was it a PSP game? Can't remember. I can't remember which site I downloaded it from (illegally). All I remember was there was a lot of converting to and from (formats) and a lot of downloads (from different sites) before it worked.

Are you sure? Afaik we can only play playstation converted game only with psxperia, and we play with ps pocket app.
Till now we only have 1 free Playstation Suite title, and it was a PSP games, i mean, it was a Loco Roco Midnight Carnival.
I really tired waiting Sony to boost Playstation Suite services. Many titles already listed, but only few has launched, no Greenland, no demo
maybe when they release the xperia play 2 with tegra 3 AND convert a entire game for android language, MAYBE...
Of course you can try the App "Kainy" its a Remote Control - So you can play all games wich you have installed on your Computer on your Phone too.
What you need:
3G/4G Internet Connection
PC wich is turned on
Kainy installed on your PC
Todays i3, i5 and i7 processors are over 4 times more powerful than an PS3's cell processor 8 SPE's (These are not x86 CPU cores), And current gen ATI and Nvidia GPU's are like 10 times more powerful.
An emulation software can only use the CPU for all graphic processing. So the Cell CPU is clocked at 3.2Ghz then an Intel or AMD CPU needs to be clocked at 6.4Ghz to give playable frames.
sorry, but playing ps3 games on xperia play is totally impossible, use the "Onlive" app to get some beautifull games in streaming

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamnnnnn... my download speed max is 128~256 kb/s! Third-world ISPs suck.
Hey guys why it can't be possible? With CFW on PS3 it's possible to play all PS3 games with PS Vita - streaming to the console. With Officially OS have few PS3 games official support to "remote play" gaming... I think when a good developer will look at this.. it can be real on xperia/android phones too
Download speed doesn't matter too much for remote gaming, the issue is latency and binding keyboard and mouse control to a gamepad, which doesn't work too well for games not designed for consoles. This is the issue with Onlive compounded by the fact I have wimax home internet so the latency sucks compared to landline internet.

Anyone here planning on using the Nexus 4 to display its screen onto a Miracast TV?

The highlight is support for Miracast, an industry-standard Wi-Fi display sharing protocol that allows new devices like the Nexus 4 to stream audio and video to TVs. (Think AirPlay with broad industry support.) Miracast boxes for existing TVs are expected to go on sale from a variety of companies soon, and Google expects them to cost well under $99. And Miracast will soon be built directly into TVs, which is pretty exciting — LG's already committed to building it into all of its 2013 smart TVs. The technology worked quite well in our demo of Android 4.2 on a Nexus 4, and Google says developers can use each screen independently for big-screen gaming and other apps.

Seems like you could do this with your Nexus 4 and play gaming emulators with a bluetooth game controller on your big screen TV wirelessly :victory:
I wonder how well the n64 or Playstation emulators run on the 2gb of ram + S4 Pro cpu?
Is Miracast a brand of TV? I was try to find some information about this, but I don't think it's out yet. Is it more of a device like the Apple TV that our device will link to, or would it be more like an Apple TV sort of thing? Either way, I've never really tried Wi-Fi direct or any branch of it so I guess I'm excited.
Wi-Di
It looks like the Newest Intel Wi-Di software supports Miracast as well.
Looks like I'm buying a Miracast adapter now.

My Xperia Play with Qualcomm 1ghz cpu and old ass Adreno 205 gpu can handle N64 and PSX games. I get 1000fps in 2d PSX games with my previous Galaxy S3 which has quadcore Mali-400 gpu. I don't think the S4 Pro and its new Adreno GPU which is supposed to be just as fast or faster will have any problem.
I do plan to get the Nexus 4, but I still prefer my Xperia Play for classic gaming.

Interesting. It's been awhile since I've used android so I wasn't sure. So you can play Final Fantasy 7 with no hiccups and the music is in sync? I remember when I could play FF7 and I wasn't sure if the hardware wasn't fast enough or if the emulator needed to be updated and tweaked.
Any emulator you would recommend for FF-7 or Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?
The Play can handle those games. FPSE is probably the best PSX emulator, if you turn off framelimiter it can go over 100fps. The touchpad (joystick) is working too, but it depends if the app support it or not. For N64 I use N64oid, it might not be 100% smooth on some games, but playable for most, I suspect Mupen64Plus could be faster. I also recommend emulators made by "explusalpha". Anything 2D can be handled easily.
This device doesn't seem to have TV output though. Also you can't have too big hands because the gamepad is a bit on the small size so you might get cramp over long sessions. It might be better to get a bluetooth gamepad in that case.
You can get a refurb Verizon Play for very cheap on ebay right now. But if you want to install custom rom, only the international (R800i) can unlock its bootloader (without paid service), because the Play required flashing the kernel separately by fastboot in order for the rom to boot.
Otherwise, this phone have similar spec to the HTC Nexus One, so its quite underpowered by today standard. It does have have nice stereo speakers and excellent sound quality. It's camera is a bit less detailed than the Galaxy Nexus, but actually perform better over different lighting. It even support GLONASS.
I have an iControlPad, which also an excellent bluetooth gamepad, but I never use it with the convenience of the Play.

Why do you think it will have GLONASS? I can see it nowhere in specs. And, no I don't count gsmarena - they posted that as rumour specs weeks ago....

Linux On Nvidia Shield TV PRO

I’m trying to get Linux on my Nvidia Shield but I understand it’s running on mobile CPUs, I am wanting to have PC CPUs installed so that I am able to play Steam, Blizard and Rockstar games. Will offer the necessary funds for completion.

Off brand PS controllers?

Can you use off brand PS controllers for the Nvidia shield pro to play games off steam or stadia? I haven't played games since ps2 days so all this is new to me.
