Hello,
I recommend to go through the existing threads which show configuration examples and where you can ask question about the specific setups.
Also you should give input about the money you'll spent, the requirements like 4k/1080p gaming and so on.
Otherwise the latest configuration will be like: from 500-10.000€/$

Copying Rom & Reloading onto another device

Hi,
I am currently looking into purchasing 750 XDAIIi Devices from o2. (after o2 release the new firmware version hopefully next week to solve the battery problem and release the blackberry client)
However, I will need to configure each device with a set of custom in house applications, and set it up in a certain way.
The easiest way i can think to do this is to get 1 device how i want all of them, then to take a copy of the rom, and to copy that rom to all the other devices.
What utilitys are available to do this? Ive so far found tools to copy the rom from the device, however im stumpted on how to re-flash the rom with the copied version.
any help/sugestions etc greatly welcome!
Thanks in advance,
Noodle.

What you need is SPB Clone great little app but expensive for my uses with you buying so many I guess it would prove affordable
http://microsoft.handango.com/Platf...ype=2&productId=150895&sectionId=0&catalog=1&
More info at the link above or
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/clone/?en
Ah great info there, thanks.
However it says its compatible with the XDA, XDAII and XDAIIs, not the XDAIIi.
Its exactly what im looking for though

I'm sure you will find it does the XDA IIi drop SPB a mail and I guess they will confirm that!
The demo works on the XDAIIi so i think its time to spend some mulleh
This could save me a long long time

Thats good news please tell us all how you found the app a nice little review would be good!
Sure.
I think firstly i will explain the situation i have, then it might make things clearer.
I could possibly have 750 XDAIIi devices, and 750 Bluetooth printers within the next 2-3 months.
This is to be used for a mobile, in house application. I am currently looking for a quick, and easy method to setup all of the devices.
I currently have a mangement solution, using Mobi Control. Its a VERY VERY good piece of software, and the new version is out next week which will offer some SERIOUSLY good features such as device lock down etc.
The issue i have is that the XDAIIi will require a certain config before I install the Mobi Control Client. (certain bluetooth settings and application settings)
So, for my base device, i have installed the Mobi Control client (removed from cradle before it is named by the mobi control server) , and also setup the relavent bluetooth settings etc. I have also tweeked some device settings to help out the battery life, and also changed things like the mappings of the buttons.
Then i used the SPB clone tool. I installed it onto the device and ran it. The wizard is easy, it has about 3 steps. The first step is to choose where you would like to save to. I chose the SD card, however you can also use ro storage.
Then, you can choose to password encrypt your device, and also choose if you want to copy the storage area of the device. Then, is builds your image.
The image takes about 5 mins to build to the SD card. and its done.
Now all you need to do is to drop the SD card into another device, it auto runs the wizard and will build the device EXACTLY the same as the master device. It will prompt you for the current time, as the time of the master device is also in the image.
This is a great solution for me, because all i need to do with each new device, is drop it into a cradle for 2 mins at most. The mobi control server auto names the device with my naming scheme, and then installs and configures our in house applications.
So intsead of it looking likes it going to take me about a month to build all the devices, i might be able to do them in a few days.
Thanks for the recoendation of that application

Softwares for Windows Mobile

I would like to have following softwares on my windows mobile 5 phone (imate SP5). I don't know if any freeware software exists or not but if they don't i may give a try developing few of them.
DISCLAIMER: If you think some of these are already present in WM5 or don't make sense, don't laugh, just let me know. I am a newbie for windows mobile.
1. A basic notepad.
2. A feature/hook which would enable copy/paste operation in every textbox. 2a. A feature that would allow to paste frequently used text/phrases in every textbox.
3. Word, Excel like application with view/edit facility (of course, cannot develop this one
4. Software to explore files on my PC from my mobile. Ability to setup networking share over a bluetooth/WiFi connection between a PC/mobile and a mobile/mobile would be good. Ability to copy/paste the files.
4a. RDP from PC to Mobile and vice versa.
5. Chat over Bluetooth/WiFi between PC/mobile and mobile/mobile.
6. Video/Audio streaming between PC/mobile and mobile/mobile over Bluetooth/WiFi. Ability to use mobile as a web cam/mic.
7. A good todo list manager with reminders etc. (I don't know why but the Tasks application inbuilt in my mobile is totaly featureless. I can enter a new task but cannot set its priority, reminder, start/end dates, etc.) Synchornization with Outlook.
8. Tabbed IE Browser.
9. A wallet type application to store personal data.
10. Following app: Based on specific tower id (mobile network tower), changes the profile of the mobile from normal to silent and vice/versa.
11. Software similar to command prompt or Run Command in windows.
12. Call recorder.
13. A better task manager.
14. Expense manager.
15. Stopwatch.
16. Better calculator than provided by default in WM5.
17. Registry Editor.
18. RSS Reader.
19. Use mobile as a remote control for TV (over infrared)
for PC (like playing stopping songs on PC) over bluetooth/WiFi.
20. Bike/Car Odometer recorder.
If applications exist, well and good. If they don't, as already stated, I might give them a try. However, I would like to have pointers on how to develop. I know .net but am poor in native code.
Anybody out there with a reply to any of the above items???

please ask google first for those questions. and I'm sure if you had, you had seen this wonderful site:
www.pocketpcfreewares.com
I did google. That's the first thing anybody would do. But could not find much.
And the site link you have sent is in a non-english language. Is there english version?

there are two flags....one French and on English...if you press the English flag the French site, magically, turns into an English site and vice versa... Man,you are too lazy....don't ask others to find what you want.... Also if you have searched google,as you say,you would have found, that if you type for example "notepad wm5 ppc",a nice notepad would appear on top of the list "Pocket Notepad"...
Thanks man.... I did look there for such thing... just didn't notice...
Most of the apps you requested do exist.
I am not going to do the search for you but here are a few hints:
1) SoftMaker has very powerful Word and Excel replacements and I remember them releasing a smartphone version a while back.
2) Total commander is free and works great on PPC should work fine on SP as well for file browsing locally and over WiFi.
3) Pocket Controller for RDP from PC to SP and try LogmeIn for SP to PC.
4) Minimo is slow but practically the most powerfully browser for Win Mo. and it has tabs. (Also free)
5) PHM is a free reg editor.
And there are plenty of other apps.
He who seeks shell find!
Sorry to say this but a Windows Mobile phone might be too advanced for you if you can't figure out search engines.
***MOD EDIT***
LINK TO WAREZ SITE REMOVED... while alot of us probably use that site, xda does not condone links to warez.

But I'm serious. Also why sign up for a more advance PPC forum like this and ask a question in the Development and Hacking forum?

Instead of making this post he should have spent some time in the SP5 forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=285) and read before asking questions.

Thanks to all of you but I found the post by levenum the most useful. I can google but was looking for some pointers like he gave. and yes SP5 forum would have been a better place to ask this.

Can Iperf run on the Titian?

Does anyone know how or if the Iperf application has been ported to this Windows platform? I have been using this application from a PC to test a new network and I would like to not need to use my XV6800 just as a modem, but be able to run the tests right from my device.
I might guess that there would be some limitations on using an app like this on my PDA, but I am willing to forgo memory hungry options for basic functionality. The network speeds we test max out at around 400kbps so I don't need massive throughput.
I am not a developer, but I can write some simple code and compile Open-Source code for Linux and Windows. If this project has not been tried, perhaps pointers on how to really give this a good try is all I would need to do it myself.
I have been searching the web for a couple of days and have not seen an answer to this question. I thought xda-developers would be the best place to start asking.
Here is a link to the project.
http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/
btw, DCD I love your work.
Thanks everyone for making this phone my one-stop-shop
nice ap, don't know of anything that robust for the ppc. there is ipconfig, and several aps to tweak the ip settings, but I haven't seen anything to act as a network stress/throughput/tester/optimizer.
I would love to see an ap like this though, especially open source.
Good luck!

I am still looking but no offers or takers. I have thought about posting this request someplace where it might find a developer interested in the effort.
could try planetsourcecode.com lotta smart programmers there...
check out cam.com/windowsce.html
lots of network tools, cant get to the iperf site to see what it does exactly but i think vxUtil should do the trick, if not there is a few others

Windows Mobile 5 Replace one character in ROM? Reward $1000

Edited: Contact mod.
For $1k I'd buy JTAG and do it . And keep the rest (RIFF BOX is 119€ and a bit of soldering/getting board for another 10€ to avoid soldering).
Haha, this reward smells like scam

Hello
Can someone tell me if it posible to replace/change just one character in Rom in Windows Mobile 5 Device, knowing where it is (memory address)
Device is not listed anywhere on this forum, and really it does not matter, since it runs Windows Mobile 5 and I can connect to it with ActiveSync (USB or Serial)
Willing to pay $1000 for solution.
Honestly, will paypal the money to someone that can help
Thanks

Why would you pay $1000 for a solution for a Windows Mobile 5 phone when you can get a Windows Mobile 6.1/6.5/WP7 phone for HALF the price.
Response to your concerns
This is not a Mobile Phone and I do not have one but several thousands of these in my posetion. Again this device is very rare and you will not find it anywhere. Solution to my problem can be used over and over again.
Simply its just like a phone running Windows Mobile 5 and I just need to change few lines of memory addresses in ROM. Please help.
For those that think its a scam, fine, I will offer $10 for solution, but for someone that can believe I will paypal $1000 instantly upon working solution.
I would agree with JTAG but I have several thousands of these in my hand and I need faster solution. Please help. I can run any files, commands for you on my device and provide results. Thanks again
You might want to try also itsutils's app "pdocwrite", that might do the job too. Or psetmem, if it is in RAM and not ROM.
wouldnt Jtag be just as quick as connecting a phone to a computer... booting into the rom, changing code etc etc etc? over and over and over again?
That said... Your best bet is to send one of these "devices" to a developer on here who can take the rom and make the changes that need to be done and make a custom rom for you.
Thats my two cents!
You are a little silent on the details of what you want to change in the device. There is hardly a universal solution for the task you have sketched. Let me outline the levels of security that have to be passed:
Running programs e.g. for manipulating memory (RAM or ROM) may in the first place be restricted by OS security (policy). This must be overcome and is also know as "Application Unlocking" of the device.
Some files on a device can simply be replaced by RAM copies and those will take the function of the ROM part after copied to the device and a subsequent reboot.
If really the ROM itself must be changed (as 2. does not work) then you have to be able to read out the ROM, dis- and re- assemble its parts (aka "cooking") and finally load back the results to the device. Several security mechanisms are in place for devices to ensure that only the legitimate authorities can do this.
Thanks to joint efforts et XDA-developers many popular devices could be hacked at that level to foster the popular cooking activities.
So if you give some more hints on what character you want to have changed and where you see it (but want to see a different one) then even other options may come up, e.g. changing data in the databases that are use for translating user interface parts (control panel), other data-driven options (e.g. registry) and so on.
So in the end there may be a much simpler solution to your problem that you thought about so far?
are these some chinese knockoff model and you need to change something to sell them on without non chinese people having problems? i would help but got rid of my chinese to english rom hardware last year
reward still availble
can someone help? I can read files from ROM, but how to write back? utility is there but its uncompiled.
I don't think you've made enough threads on this issue. I think you should post 5,6,7 maybe even 8 more and see if someone responds...
what device are u meaning to change?
Thread closed, contact me to talk about the thread.

Android bluetooth game development

Hello,
I started developing games for android a month ago, now Im wondering am I able to create a game such as super smash bros. for android that uses Bluetooth to communicate and play? The game will be mainly for tablet but will be adapted toward Mobile Phones.

Yes you can - Android supports standard Bluetooth API for peer-to-peer communication, typically using sockets over bluetooth l2cap protocol. This means you could also communicate with non-Android devices but not iOS - it does not support these API's.
Implementation is not too difficult, particularly if you are familiar with doing sockets in Java.
On the other hand, you will probably encounter wonkiness. One issue is various implementation bugs, which are different on the different manufacturers because they implement their own Bluetooth drivers and stacks.
Also, the Bluetooth protocol supports a master-slave architecture. A master can coordinate communication with up to 7 slaves, but operates poorly/inefficiently if it is simultaneously operating as a slave to another master (or the master of 2 piconets at the same time).
In practical terms this means that it will work best if none of the devices playing the game are simultaneously using Bluetooth for e.g. tethering, controller, headset, google glasses....
Also, what happens if the master of the piconet (probably the person who initiated the first connection) stop laying and leaves... how quickly and with what prodding from your app will a new piconet form?
Looking at what I have written I realize I am probably putting you off the idea, and I'm not sure if that is fair - while I've done Bluetooth on Android and have done all the weird piconet stuff on raw Linux, I have not personally encountered the issues I'm describing on Android (just Linux). So I'm partially conjecturing and would be happy if someone else who had tried these permutations on Android wanted to correct me...
QUESTION?
Thank you so much for yur reply and I would like to contact you in the future so would you please give me your email address?
