Dual Audio feature in Media Panel is not working after Android 11 update - Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e Questions & Answers

I used to connect 2 Bluetooth devices and listen on both devices at the same time on Android 10. Ever since the tablet got updated to Android 11, this dual audio feature doesn't work.
Steps I used on Android 10 to get dual audio is listed below. The same setup doesn't work on Android 11. Even though its able to connect to both devices, it is allowing to play on only one device at a time
1) Pair 2 Bluetooth devices
2) go to Media panel in the notifications section which allows you to enable sound on both devices at same time

Hi there,
You're not alone with this problem. It seems Samsung decided the S5e is not worth supporting this feature anymore and simply removed it with the update.
There's a thread in the Samsung community forum about it, but as you might guess, no official statement:
https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/tablets/dual-audio-fehlt-nach-update-auf-android-11-one-ui-3-1-tab-s5e/m-p/3606484#
Feel free to address your dissatisfaction there, the more voices, the higher the small chance of getting it back the way it was before...
Unfortunately the thread is in German, but making the problem more international can only help!

For anyone else searching forums on this issue, I did revert back to Android 10 on my S5e and I now have the feature back. As of now you can still successfully roll back to 10 via ODIN

I was actually thinking about that too, but this will void your warranty of the device, right?
Nevertheless, I'm still considering this, especially also since Samsung most likely won't provide another update to Android 12, even though the sister device Tab S6 is confirmed to get it.
Is there any particular how-to description that you followed, which you could link here?
Thanks for the hint!

I pretty much followed instructions in this youtube video:
As far as firmware to choose in video, I choose Cellular South since that is the USA version. And for my tablet there is no CP file since it doesnt have a radio. When you hold down volume keys and plug in tablet it also automatically goes in debug mode versus having to select it like he did, at least for me it did. I believe those were the only differences in video. It took my windows PC forever to download and install drivers, that was only hiccup. Took along time flash also, be patient, dont touch anything, let it do its thing.
As far as warranty, IDK, this is just flashing same Software back to device, not a custom ROM, no rooting required, seems like it wouldnt be void. You'd have to ask that question to more experienced members here. But I can tell you, warranties usually suck anyway, and if your device is good out of the box for a month it is typically good for years. Hit me up if you decide to do it and have a question, Ill try to help best I can. It was a must feature for me to have and so glad to have it back. I also used to watch movies with my wireless and hand someone else a wired pair, that feature also was removed in 11 but works in 10

[Q] Anyone flash a Bell/Rogers Tab yet?

I'm curious because I'd like to flash mine, but don't think we can go back to our build (P1000MUGJJ7, wtf i know).
Bell Galaxy Tab.
I recall reading of a couple successes in the Galaxy Tab General forum.
This thread I believe: (page 13 rgbc reports success)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847273
No going back to stock, as far as I have read, but things move quick here

As far as I know at this point there are no Bell roms floating around but if you feel comfortable flashing, read the first few pages of the ATT flash thread, get comfortable with Odin, it was a bit of a different flashing experience for me coming from HTC phones, give it a day or two to make sure everything is fine with the hardware (I took my first tab back to Futureshop for exchange 24 hours later as it had/developed a burnt pixel right in the middle of the screen) and then flash away.
The Bell rom doesn't really offer anything that the Euro rom doesn't, whereas the Euro rom enables the phone features on your Tab, the speakerphone is excellent btw.
Quick question re your unmodified Tab, when you launch Swype does it have a Voice button on the keyboard, I cannot remember if it did or if I'm confusing it with the Swype kb on my Nexus, which does.
Thanks. I wanted to flash so I can get the arabic words to show properly, hoping we'd get an official firmware first. I bought mine from Bell.
In regards to Swype, there is a Voice/Mic button, but for some reason it's greyed out now, can't use it. Even though voice search works perfectly everywhere else.
What bell apps would you like to keep?
I see no reason to keep bell apps on the tab anyway - I have no PVR
So why would you want to flash it back?
Self Serve app is pretty cool app, but I think it downloaded the APK heh, but the reason is i'm just worried in case I need a working ROM to fallback to.
Care to point me to that Bell Self Serve APK? I flashed mine to Euro before I even tried that application.
Some version of the Bell firmware will show up on samfirmwares.com before long, once it gets out to the service centers which are usually their source for firmware binaries.
For instance, it was about ten days after the Bell Vibrant launched before any factory firmware showed up (and it was older, pre-release firmware), but the original "JG9" found on Bell units at launch day has never showed up (current JH2 is there though).
You can always fall back to the AT&T firmware, which is available just to get you up and running pretty close to stock again, but of course that might cause problems if you want to reflash it before sending it in for warranty.
Something else to keep in mind (but try not to abuse please) is the 30 day DOA period from Bell kind of covers your ass if you totally screw something up and brick it for real. Provided they have a replacement in stock.
Thanks for the info Croak. That was pretty helpful.
About the Self Serve app, I realized there was a link initially that took me to the market to download the app, http://www.appbrain.com/app/bell-self-serve/com.bellmo.selfserve, I'm not sure if this shows up for you. I'm still dabbling in adb, so I'm not sure how to get the apk off the device just yet :/
Note: The self serve app only works on 3G, not wifi. That would explain how it knows to my account info automatically.
I forgot ask something, in regards to the Market, will regional apps still show after flashing non-north american firmware? For example, the TD Canada Trust bank app. I remember I had issues with the MIUI on my N1 because it was a Chinese ROM. Eventually it was fixed though.

Hi xoltrix2000.
I also have the Bell SGT, but have no phone option what so ever :-(. Have the hardware appearently, but no way of using it. Are you able to use the phone option on your SGT? If so, how did you manage to get it?
Thanks for any info.
Since then I flashed the P1000JPJJ2 arabic firmware with no issues so far. It has the phone capabilities obviously just like any of the euro firmwares, tested it by using another phone line enabled sim card.
Thanks for your reply xoltrix2000. Good to know that it actually works. I'll have to read up a bit on the 'how to', get all the needed software and then try it myself.
I currently have a SGT with a custom JM6 and a modem which gives my full data and voice call capability. I posted instructions on this in the general area.

First impressions

I got mine from Amazon yesterday, I already bricked it a few hours ago by messing with the recovery. It should be an easy fix once I get hold of the stock firmware. I got another one coming tomorrow, so I'll focus on just extracting the rom from that one
Bricking aside, I got 20/10mbs down/up on speedtest using my T-mobile US SIM, and the signal indicator showed LTE. Forcing it off LTE I got 10/5mbs down/up.
Battery life is awesome, I used it constantly for 8hrs and only got down to 50%, my note4 would have been dead after that much use with the screen on. The overall feel of Android 6.0 was smooth, no stuttering. There is no bloatware, just a few utilities for fancy wallpapers.
The phone charges faster than any other phone I have. The included TPE case doesnt increase the thickness of the phone too much and I like that It keeps the camera lens off the desk when I set the phone down.
Dual SIM functionality works nice. It was one of the main features I was looking for, though I will miss T-Mobile wifi calling.
Some notes:
I used adb & fastboot in my attempts to root. After running
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
the display now showed
Code:
Orange state
Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted
Your device will reboot in 5 seconds
So it appears that it is best to oem relock it when you're done updating, as the message goes away if you relock.
Backing up the ROM
I found SP Flash Tool v5.1632 for Linux and I've been practicing saving chunks of ROM from my bricked phone. I should be able to grab the recovery portion of the new phones' ROM tomorrow.
Based on the scatter.txt file I've found for the Gionee S8 AmigOS Marshmallow ROM, recovery starts at 0x8000 and is no more that 16Mb is size. So, in theory, I should be able to grab that range of the ROM and flash it using fastboot back to my bricked unit. I'm using the word "bricked", but its far from that, I should just say "unbootable" to be more clear.
Earlier today I was trying to get MTK droid tools to detect my Blu Pure XR so I could extract the scatter file, but It never was detected. All the drivers installed ok, so maybe its not compatible, I'm not sure yet. I'll get back onto that after my first unit is back up and working, hopefully tomorrow.
Edit: I just found a modified MTK Droid Tools for 64bit cpu phones, I'll give this a try too.
Edit next day: I got the second phone this morning. I used SP Flash Tool to grab the recovery.img portion of the new phone, then I used fastboot to flash it to the damaged phone, and it worked fine. The bootloader unlock/relock caused the phone to wipe itself and then re-encrypt the file system, so I lost a few test photos, no big deal. FWIW, I could have flashed the recovery back to the damaged phone using SP Flash Tool, but I wanted to make sure it worked with fastboot, which it did.
Heres the recovery.img for those that may need it and don't have two phones
View attachment xr-recovery.zip
Monday or so my mom gets her phone, so I'll be able to test LTE on AT&T with her SIM card. I just got 34Mbs download on a speed test (T-Mobile), which is is fine, considering all the naysayers reviewing on Amazon who didn't have the guts to buy the phone, saying LTE wouldn't work at all.
I just heard of this device today. I wonder how quick Android 7.x can be flashed over to this, but for $299 it's a good looking phone.
It may be a while since there's not much activity happening on this device yet.
I'm focusing on creating a rooted boot.img right now, as I'll be happy with 6.0 and root. I plan on having this done today. I've never created a custom twrp recovery, but I may try that next.
I need to figure out how to prevent the full wipe after oem unlocking/relocking, that's a real pain having all my setup deleted after every test, as it makes it hard to use the phone while developing.
Got root
Firstly, I'm still learning about Mediatek based devices, so I feel like a noob again. I haven't edited a ROM in several years and there's a lot of crap info on the internet. Most articles that write up "how to root a phone" basically say "Install twrp, then supersu", yeah, thanks
After struggling with all the selinux controls in 6.0, I switched to hack mode. As per phhusson's super-bootimg script, I used his sed technique to force the init in boot.img to not enforce security policy and added his bits to init.rc to load su. I put su and in system.img along with a suid root shell just in case. Its working, I have SuperSu installed, and it pops up to ask me to grant permissions. It won't update its su binary, I've got some permission problem there, but it's not a show stopper. Also,I found its easiest to just leave the bootloader unlocked while testing, I just have to get used to the annoying boot message and 5 second delay.
This week I'll start from scratch and document the procedure I used and hopefully make it repeatable for anyone else who may want to try it. Maybe someone will just port twrp and save me the time of learning how to do it
Some notes on the software I used:
Windows:
* SP Flash Tool with a bogus scatter file to grab the stock ROM sections of my phone as the Linux version would timeout reading large ranged of flash.
Linux:
* mktool to unpack/repack the boot.img
* loopback mounted the system.img to add su to it.
* used img2simg to convert system.img to a sparse image
* fastboot to flash the boot & system images to the phone.
AT&T Speed Tests
No good, ~500kbs up/down, even though signal strength showed 4 bars on 4G. No LTE at all. Changing the band set to 3g/4g had no real effect either way. Don't buy this phone I you plan on using it with AT&T, although my mother hasn't noticed the ****ty 4G in actual use yet (I'll switch her to T-mobile soon).
Update: After using the phone for 1 week, I am extremely pleased with it. I chuckle when I read the negative reviews on all the big phone web sites. Reviewers hate the wiggly button, LOL, but it doesn't bother me as I'm used to it on my Samsungs. Other than the wiggly home button, its a solid phone. I prefer the metal back as opposed to glass. By the way, who's brilliant idea was it who thought an all glass phone was a good idea?
It's not AOSP, but I find it's AmigOS Carefree launcher very pleasant to use, and I've used countless launchers over the years. It's got way better specs than the Nexus 5X and after struggling with the security in 6.0, I'm not in any rush to find out what security bull**** awaits me in 7.0 (for my benefit of course).
On the flip side, I don't use NFC payments, Google Pay, Google Play, no Google anything. All Google stuff disabled. I run my own calendar/contacts/tasks sync server, use oandbackup to save/restore all my apps and settings, the majority of my apps come from f-droid. I don't play games. So I'm not an average user. I've been using Android devices since the Nexus One and I have a pile of phones in front of me. Blu (or Gionee) has shown it can make quite a competitive device that I enjoy using all day, (though I wouldn't be using it at all unless it was rooted, so luckily for both of us that is the case).
Rant: Things that are actually more annoying than a wiggly button:
* Dozens of phone review websites that all publish a review of this phone within 2 days of each other after the phone was released on Aug 29th ,with all the same content. It's like they are all run by the same hack, just to get advertising dollars.
* Websites like rootoreviews.com that use a template on how to root this particular phone using twrp, when twrp doesn't exist yet for the device. WTF is that? Why would someone think this is a great idea? They have the same instruction set for every phone on the site with the make/model info swapped out. Are they just hoping twrp becomes available soon so they have the first post on the topic by default? Lame!

Hi theer just curious on how you get it to root then??
Thanks for potentially inspiring some activity here regarding this phone. It looks like an impressive device, but I won't pull the trigger until there're some solid rom options.
Hey brother hope you r doing well. Glad to see this thread with the smartphone similar to mine. My phone is symphony helio s20, mtk6755 helio p10 processors, 4gb ram 64gb rom with the similar system.img and boot.img of gionee s8 & blu pur xr.
I was desperately looking for a pre rooted rom or a custom, custom recovery and rooting tool for almost 2 months, requested so many times all around this site, but unfortunately didn't get any respons (really frustated). I just badly need to root my device but I'm just a noob on modding and tweaking with Roms. I got my stock rom from Service Center, when I bricked my phone flashing a custom recovery. Later I tried all the method found all over the website but non of them are working only misleading. Bricked my phone several times but luckily I managed to reflash the stock rom by sp flash tool. Please keep this good work up and help us root our devices without any hassle. You are doing a really great work so keep it up bro!
Here is the link of my stock firmware with sn write tool if you need it for anything bro.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for all your info and everything you posted Could you be so kind to describe how did you root your Pure XR devices??? Big hug from Cuba
I'm going to guess something with KingRoot. This is a rebranded Gionee S8, so China is already no stranger to this phone.
Not surprised about AT&T performance considering I've never seen an unlocked phone support so few LTE bands (2, 4, 7). Ridiculous. It supports less than half of all the LTE bands AT&T uses. Unless your area uses primarily band 2 or 4 you're screwed if you're on AT&T. Even worse if you're on T-Mobile. It only supports ONE band on T-Mobile. Does Blu even realize it's 2016?

I tried every rooting tool, including KingRoot, none worked. There's an OTA update for the stock firmware, but I wont be able to install it until after I un-root. I probably retrace the steps I did the first time: backup all my apps, flash the stock firmware, do the OTA, then save/edit it to have root, then flash the result. The phone works so good right now that I'd hate to mess it up.

This was a Gionee S8 originally, which only supported FDD-LTE bands not in use in the USA. It's a miracle they got FDD-LTE in here at all, I guess, but if you're gonna sell in the US market... they really need more bands.

Press left button to bring up the running apps list, long press the button with 3 rectangles in it, then press "Clean white list". Here, you press"Add into white list" and choose "messenger" and any other apps you don't want "auto cleaned".
For example, my white list includes Alarm Klock, K-9 mail, CSipSimple, Silence (all apps that I want running all the time)

And I'm really glad that there's someone who's onto something like einstein. I just hope that you can figure out a way to get root with your own custom build of twrp recovery using chainfire's supersu to work with this smartphone. Cos that'll be super-awesome right? But I'm just a noob so all I can do is just wish you the best of luck. So best of luck until you crack the code. And I have complete faith in you. You will achieve it I know that for sure. Does anybody succeed rooting ?

so no one knows how to root?

USB Audio Source Android 9

Phone:Samsung S8 SM-G950GF Exynos
Android version: 9 Pie
So basically I bought an external dac-amp for my IEMs... Stupid me was thinking that it would be compatible with android through the use of an usb otg cable, but nope I just learned that after Android 9 came out , the option that used to let you force "USB Audio Source" in the developer options has been removed for no apparent reason. Now the thing is I really don't want to admit that I've wasted 99$ on a dac-amp that doesn't even work on my phone, so do you guys have any idea how to fix this thing?
Help would be very much appreciated and sorry for the bad English if I messed up something, it's not my first language.

Last time I saw the option was when I had Android Oreo installed.
The thing that bothers me isn't the fact that they removed the option, I would be fine with that if the automatic switch to an audio source to another was flawless, but not only it's not flawless it just doesn't work at all.

yeah, ive seen several options that i would have liked to retain disappear over the years which is irritating. So, you cant roll your version back as its tied to the latest bootloader on your phone, but you CAN root it and flash an Oreo based rom on it

Yeah I already thought about doing that, but I'm not really sure if it's worth or not since I had a lot of lag issues with oreo.
Anyway thanks for the help I guess I'll just wait to hear news form the audiophile community and see if someone releases a magisk module or a custom android pie rom to solve the issue.

Yeah, I saw USB Audio Player PRO is pretty popular in the audiophile community but it's 7.50€ and that wouldn't solve the issue at all since I wanted to use that setup just for spotify.

disued android phone thats a bit older? you can have it tether to your current phone and that way you wont have to give much of a [email protected] if something happens to the phone since theyre easily replacable. Just get tasker to recognize that when it sees your media player phone that it automagically turns your hotspot on and back off when it no longer sees it. You can use bluetooth pairing as the trigger point
I have same issue too i saw someone solved that problem with downgrading android and using otg adapter and micro usb to full size usb cable
I will downgrade to oreo for portablity
Good luck

I'm tinkering with my Portable as well . I currently have Linage OS on it and am able to install NVIDIA Games on it . Geforce Now will not stream however and I get an "error code 11". I also was not able to download Xcloud game streaming .
Let me ask you about your portable . If you are on stock firmware ( Lollipop) , do you randomly lose volume -like if the headphones where plugged in ? This happens on mine . If I'm on Kit Kat it's fine but I can't use Geforce Now or anything .
I've been racking my brain over this for awhile - there is still some life in this device and would like to resolve this issue.
I need to get a stock OTA zip currently I can't find it in any of my archives I've also been pretty busy lately as for any issues pertaining to the stock OTA I can't take a look until later on I will be setting up a build environment to see if I can build stock again from source (not sure how likely it will be) I have been hearing a lot of issues with stock OTA now I am honestly not sure if that is due to issues with it or if some of these devices aren't aging well
Also any of you looking to reach me with any questions I don't check XDA much so here's a telegram link to the chat pinned to first post

lol - This device !! I've decided I'm not giving up yet ! I've tried stock L ( 103, 106, 110 ) All have this weird sound issue where the speakers will either make heart attack inducing high pitches ( capacitor noises ? ) or the volume will force itself into "silent mode" . You can restart the portable and the sound will come back , calm down ect. This is really bothering me though because game streaming is still really good on this device . Also when on official Kit Kat or Linage OS none of these sound problems occur. I've even tried rooting it and basically removing all Google apps possible and the sound issue still happens .
Currently I have the portable rooted with Magisk on Linage OS 6.1 ( the last nightly build) I've tried hiding the NVIDIA apps , Sony PS4 Remote Play and have had "no luck ". Geforce Now will install perfectly start to load the game , then right before it starts there is a error code 11 that pops up .
Something Google did in the lollipop update to the portable messed up the speakers . ( I thought it might be the "memory leak issue" - but the last update OFW was 5.1 not 5.0
Haaaalllppp !!!

No worries . I did read on some old NVIDIA forums around the time of the Lollipop update , some people did talk about sound loss issues .
Hey, question to anyone who can answer - I just got my hands on a couple of Shield Portable 2 prototypes. They seem a bit less complete than the famous one that showed up at a pawn shop a couple of years ago, but one of them turns on and can connect to the internet. I want to see if I can get it up and running - it's still quite buggy, will crash if any videos are opened and obviously doesn't have any google services involved - but I just want to do what I can to make it as usable as possible. . I'm a complete noob when it comes to all this, just someone who was a big fan of the original portable and wanted to try and get this prototype to run some games. If anyone can help me out, or point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I'm wondering if you could dump the system info , if someone could make a custom rom that could be flashed ?
I'm interested in anything that people manage with streaming.
I got lineage android 6.1 installed on it yesterday and managed to get the xbox game streaming app installed via the apk (the latest one boots then crashes, but the one before loads), however it still requires a bluetooth controller to connect, wish we could get the integrated controller to work with this and would make it so perfect for streaming xbox remotely.
If anyone is wondering yes I am still working on the device as we all know this year has been a real doozy for us all also I am moving across the US this coming week so please just work with all the devs here and we shall see what happens

Awesome glad to hear it. Just revived mine.
I am working on gathering all Shield portable files and putting them up on our website AFH. Let me know when you have something ready and I will make sure it gets put on every server possible and doesn't get deleted.
Here is what I have gathered so far
https://androidfilehost.com/f/shield
Thanks
Alex with AFH
Oddly enough guys I've been having issues pulling the manifest from RR I've told them about the issue we'll see if it gets fixed it looks like I am not having any issues pulling aosp manifest keep in mind I am not saying that I will have a aosp rom out because I am unsure if that will even work but we will see what happens
Update: no issues with AOSP now I'm just waiting for lineage to finish again no promises of a rom guys I know we've been having issues since 7.x android quite frankly I'd be surprised myself if lineage 17.1 will even work
Also on some personal notes this is 100% a back burner project as it looks as tho I'll be having to move again as I haven't been able to find work where I am currently at I know that the whole covid-19 situation has made it hard on everyone especially here in the US among other things in the country right now but I am still hopeful things will turn around and work out and hopefully I can get some kind of build out even if it's not great

Not sure I know RR 6.0.1 had quite a few bugs but due to how outdated 6.x is I can't really do much with it

What are you working on currently on this device?

Samsung on5 SM-G550T1 easiest way to root.

Sorry if this is wrong place or way to post on here. I am wanting to root the on5 but it is a learning experience. No pc to use. Is there a apk that actually works. Tried kingroot it says device not supported
I have developer options on and the oem toggle on am I ok with that. If anyone has the time and patience and could walk me through how to get going please let me know. Thanks

Guess I came to the wrong place for advicre
I'm curious too.
You're not the only one who would like to know, but this is an older ( & apparently not widely used) phone that hasn't been sold for a few years so you may not get any answers.
Yea It's was one of my old ones. Wanted to use it to learn. Any suggestions on a older phone that rooting would be simple.? Can a phone be rooted without a computer I've read so much that says either but doesn't sound like it would.

Sorry for the late reply. It's my current phone & the storage issues are just getting to be ridiculous otherwise I wouldn't be interested in rooting because of the risk of bricking/voiding warranty etc; but I don't know anything else to do. I know that it's possible to root with an app, but it depends on finding a vulnerability that can be exploited with your specific phone. It's different for every phone. If you choose to install a custom ROM you should find one made for your phone too otherwise you're likely to have problems if you try it on a phone that you intend to actually use for calls/texts etc; I had an HTC droid Eris years ago & used a one-click root app & it worked without any problem that I could tell, but it was a phone I wasn't using as my daily driver too, so I wasn't worried about voiding the warranty/radios not working etc;. Cell & sometimes bluetooth & wifi radios not working are common issues with newer ROMs or especially if you choose a ROM not made for your phone. With the Eris I just installed the app, pressed the button & it rebooted, installed a custom recovery & booted into the OS. With the On5 either there isn't a known exploit or there's just nobody willing or able to look for one or both. They would have to still have the phone to be able to look for one. If you have a flea market near you maybe you could go there & see if there's a phone store that you could get an old cheap one you could practice on? I don't remember the app I used, but I'm pretty sure it came from the play store. It seems like I read somewhere that HTC phones were easier to root, but I'm not sure.
