I gave up 5g. Am I alone? - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Was going to get a Verizon-branded OP8 but settled for a Pro unlocked just so I can root. Am I the only one?

Edit

Lol me too. We can't get 5g on these phones through Verizon I don't think

I think this is simply Verizon, and as there isn't a lot of people using Verizon the support just isn't there.
Obviously doesn't help you but if avoid them in the future.
Has Verizon promised you 5G? Are you paying for it?

No, boss lady pays for my service coz I use it also for work. She offered one of her upgrades to get an iPhone but I can't because iPhone. Verizon OP8 was an option but bootloader locked down. OP8Pro unbranded was 3rd choice, and although it would be out of pocket, I jumped on it.

5G is a problem for Europa, too. I read that a Lot of people who complain they don't have 5g in many countrys in Europa.
On 8 Pro NO 5g ! On 9 Pro, same, NO 5g ! There is NO 5g option in "Preferred Network Type". And OnePlus sales 5g phones...
Of course i have new 5g capable SIM. My network 5g works in band 78.
Till now 5g is BS.

I'm in the UK and 5G works fine, i don't need i but it definitely works.
A bunch of people who have the 8 pro have 5G just fine.
If you're completely missing the 5G option then speak with your provider.

I read online the 8pro doesn't have the mmWave antennae so hence, no 5G.
At least for me, coming from HTC U11 (where only Band 13 works on Verizon), I'm hoping to at least get more bars more often. Daughter's Iphone 12 Pro Max, I think, gets like 60Mb download where we live. Wife's Pixel 4xl gets around 40ish. Me thinks I'll be right around 40ish too.

I'm with Visible (Verizon's MVNO). I had updated my OP 8 Pro to the latest OOS beta 11, and I see the 5G label pops up occasionally next to the triangular signal bar. Verizon has deploy sub 6 5G anchors with LTE bands, aka DSS, in my area.
So far, I can't find a unroot method to turn on wifi calling on OOS 11 with Visible cell service.

Have anyone tried OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition with another US Carrier

Hi everybody,
We moved to T-Mobile and got a new iPhone XI and a OnePlus 7 T Pro 5G McLaren. My wife is not happy with the quality of the audio and what to switch back to Verizon or AT&T, and I wonder if any of you have tried the OnePlus with those carriers and if the phone works with them as well as 5G
Thanks for your responses.
Happy holidays,
Guillermo
Verizon is CDMA and I dont think the oneplus from tmobile will work
I tried mine on Sprint last night but I couldn't get it working. I read that once they merge it will work on that Network so I would think it would work but maybe I'm wrong. I'm going to play with it some more.

You may need to go into settings and sim unlock the device first if you haven't already

CDMA doesn't matter anymore and is being shut down. Verizon only allows new devices on its VoLTE network and the phone supports all of Verizon's bands.
But the main problem is that Verizon won't allow the device for purely arbitrary reasons if the BYOD check rejection is any indication. Same goes for Sprint.
It should work fine on AT&T minus 5G support. If you had bought the Note 10+ 5G from T-Mobile, I believe that does support AT&T's low-band 5G (assuming you have the right plan) that just launched.

So far no one has tried. :crying:
I had my T-Mobile 5G McLaren unlocked for T-Mobile.
It works with a Verizon Sim with data only.
When I try to make it a outgoing call the phone app crashes and there is no incoming and outgoing text messages but data works just fine.
The OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren takes advantage of T-Mobile 600 MHz lowband 5G; currently, no other US carrier supports 600 MHz lowband 5G. Consequently, if you unlocked the sim on the 5G McLaren, you could use with other carriers but you would currently lose access to lowband 5G with other carriers. Moreover, as far as I know, the 5G McLaren does not have an antenna for mmWave 5G, so you would not be able to utilize mmWave 5G on any carrier. In my experience, modern call quality is more dependent upon the particular phone than carrier, so maybe your spouse could try a different phone than whatever current one? Good luck!
I messed with it some more and have had some success. I already have mine sim unlocked. I'm not worried about the 5g as that is a joke. I can't get more than 2mb down and 1mb up with 5g. Yes you are reading that correctly. TMobile sucks in new Orleans. I am getting LTE with Sprint and was able to make calls. I will post back once I get it all figured out.

This is false. AT&T is live with n5 (850 MHz) in a dozen or two cities. It's the same dumb approach they used for HD Voice, but 5G is being lit up market by market.

I don't think n5 is enabled in the firmware. T-Mobile's 600 MHz lowband 5G uses n71. T-Mobile planned to add n41 if the Sprint Merger goes through. So, I don't think someone would be able to use it on AT&T n5, because the n5 band is not enabled in the firmware.
Correct. n5 is only enabled on the AT&T and T-Mobile branded Note 10+ 5G. Maybe Sprint's too if it ever shows up. Even then, I'd only trust the AT&T one for obvious reasons.
If anyone ever gets around to playing around with the McLaren 5G in QXDM or QPST, it would be fascinating to see what the modem is actually capable of and whether anything can be enabled. There should be no problem with the antenna and chip supporting it.

The OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren 5G has the Snapdragon X55 chip in it. Which means it supports all current US based forms of 5G. However the chip is software locked by OP to just low band, I assume until TMobile releases mid and high band.
I have a unlocked 7t pro mclaren that i got from t mobile. I have it on at&t right now. It's working out great. But as said be for the 5g does not work on at&t right now. The one thing that i did do was update the oneplus logkit. So i could enable volte and video calling. But still no calling over WiFi with at&t.

Thanks for the update... but as you can imagine, I need the phone fully operational.... so it looks like going to Verizon is not an option for me so far.

The phone can be used on Verizon fully. You need a Sim and you also need to call in to tech support and have them set your account up for CDMAless.
Hello,
Idk how much this will help you but, I’ve been an ATT subscriber for over 5 years, I live in Naples FL, and have traveled around the state and always have good service. I keep ATT because it’s easy to switch your SIM card and use the next phone on the networt, I buy a lot of unlocked phones. I am currently using the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren edition, not the 5G version, on the network and all is well. ATT is great but, I am thinking of switching to T-Mobile once the other phones on my account are paid off, only because of T-Mobiles less expensive plans.

5G in German Vodafone Network on Xiaomi Mix 3 5G

Hello everyone,
I was trying to find information about the Xiaomi Mix 3 5G but somehow I couldnt.
Just today I got the Xiaomi Mix 3 5G phone for a very good price and thought it would be nice to upgrade to 5g. My contract has 5g included, although the coverage of the german vodafone network is quite poor (yet). I found a map on their website that shows precisely where they deliver and in my city (Düsseldorf, fortunately the headquarter of Vodafone Germany). I can see the Vodafone Campus from my balkony and decided to walk over. I could even see the 5g antennas on the head quarters garage but my phone stayed in the 4g+ network. I have called them already, they said it is not a problem from their side.
Anyway, in my phone options I can choose between my preferred network types and it gives me the options "2g", "3g" or "Prefer LTE" - now the question is, if "LTE" includes 5g as well or only 4g.
The information in the internet is really rare. The Xiaomi product website says the 5G functionallity will be rolled out in an OTA update, "when depends your region". The phone as been released almost 1 year ago so i guess it should be working.
Do you have any additional information about the hardware/software status?
Thanks a lot

unlock N77 band on oneplus 8 Pro

I am living in a region which only got n77 for 5G network
Just wondering can it be done via pc software editing or something like the volte method.
Its brother find x2 pro comes with n77 by default, but it is not officially available on onelpus 8 pro.
I'm trying to find out about unlocking bands using regional firmware but even Oneplus aren't giving me a straight forward answer on this
I brought oneplus 8t 5g from India to Bangkok. operator in Thailand(AIS) uses N41 Band and in India N78... Here 5g is not working, what can i do to make it work.. kindly help
My 8 pro in my (network) country does not have 5g. (I have a new 5g SIM)
I talk to OnePlus tech and they say that it will be solved in future updates.
It will be faster if each one of you talk to Oneplus tech and they see that many people need more 5g bands.

Unlocked One Plus 8 Verizon Nationwide 5G

I have an unlocked One Plus 8 pro and verizon and my area now has nationwide 5g. I don't see it though as it still shows LTE. I know this phone doesn't support the UW and we don't have that yet anyway. How can I tell if this is on 5G or is there a way to force it? I read they use band 71 and this phone does support that and my account is setup for 5G.
Anybody?
I guess beta 3 added what we needed for it cause now it shows this on dialer code *#*#4636#*#. Also in setting - sim we got this. So I'll say yeah we got it now. Please my data speed greatly improved over beta 2 with Verizon.
I can get to it via the dialer and manually select it but still no nationwide 5G on Verizon. One Plus says it's Verizon and Verizon says it's the device.
I tried to put it just on NR setting but no go for service were I live. But I'll be heading to the city area on Thursday and I'll try it again with speed tests to see. Verizon has been playing with the towers in my town, not sure if it's the 5G convertion or just plan work but like I said before, my speed test have gone up. I've been getting LTE+ on my phone when I wasn't getting it before the new beta update.

btw, nice username
Nope I am pretty sure all verizon has to do is allow the IMEI but their not that smart or they want you to buy their locked phones

I'm not in America but from what I've read, Verizon have tried to monopolize certain aspects of 5G over there, I think with the device that they provide vs any other.
Tbh though if you've got the international device then it should absolutely work, to prove its 5G capable, test it with a friend's 5G SIM, I'm sure it'll work.. Take some screen shots with it in action then you can point your finger firmly at Verizon and tell them it's on them..also you could try your SIM in another 5G capable phone then that's the last piece of the puzzle, you're phone's capable, their SIMs capable, what's the issue?
If it still doesn't provide 5G in yet another phone then it's their network mate.
If you didn't get your phone from them (international version) then swerve them altogether, I wouldn't pay for something that I wasn't getting, I'd want a nice big discount at the very least.
Did *#*#4636#*#* show the technology available?
Yes if I go to phone information NR is there and with a T-Mobile SIM it did get 5G. This is the unlocked version directly from One Plus.
Are you on the US variant or the International variant of the device?

I followed the instructions from someone on that link. Was able to get 5G.

AT&T 5G on One Plus

I can not seem to find an answer anywhere. Do any of the 5G One Plus phones work on AT&T? I asked support on the oneplus website, but they kicked the ball to AT&T support, and AT&T support does not know either.
Anyone with real world experience?
Doesn't look like it for 5G at least in my search:

So, back to Verizon then?
Will it work on AT&T's 4G LTE? I do not have true 5G anywhere I travel. It is all that 5GE.
I read that LTE 4G worked https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-8-pro-on-at-t.1235162/

I can switch to Verizon, just wanted to avoid that whole porting the number thing.
Actually, after searching, the OnePlus website shows they only support TMobile 5G. It shows AT&T and Verzion 5G not supported. Very confusing!
