DPI setting performance impact - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

hii there,
My cousin who owns a redmi note 7s,he plays free fire on it,so as to achieve max accuracy and increase his pro-ness(such dumb nit-pocking),his friend(who knows nothing about tech stiff) suggested my cousing to increase dpi(from developer options) all the way upto maximum, until the point where phone goes into soft-brick :/ i.e. around 700-800(default is around 406 ).when he plays game, phone heats up really bad at 100% load(possible throttling),so he had to set graphic setting to lowest, but there are other complications such as system-wide freeze(crash) when he recieves a call while gaming, also he is not able to pick it up because of freezing,it takes around 4-5 mins for phone to get back to normal, another issue is keyboard not popping up in ingame chat, these are all signs of serious process load and throttling, causing all background processes to crash.I want to make sure that this is really happening because of those huge dpi changes? or could be something else? Also if it is consistent(abnormal temps),it will affect life of chipset in the long run no?

Longterm disadvantages to overclocking?

Has anyone noticed any long term disadvantages to overclocking the Wizard? Does the battery life permanently decrease? What speeds are you running yours at, and how long have you been doing it? Have you noticed anything at all which indicates it's not good for the hardware?
Cheers

i believe that it's safe to overclock the mda...just set it at an acceptable rate (264mhz for me) and make sure not to run the battery all the way down...if you overclock the settings too high the device will freeze and reset (this is a fail safe procedure it goes through), so there is no need to worry...also don't overclock the settings too low as the phone becomes disfunctional when too low (about less than 132mhz for me)...the screen flickers because it's not being refreshed quick enough (my guess)...hope this helps...
I would set it to 240. I have done before, i'm just wondering if it's a bad idea leaving it permanently set to that level?
Cheers
yea you should be fine at that speed, but if you want you can overclock it higher if it will let you...just make sure that the phone is stable when using it...like i said in my earlier post my device is oc at 264mhz
Cool, thanks for your replies. How long have you had yours overclocked for? Do you use Smartskey?
Cheers
My self i ownly use it when need the extra speed, only with some games and wmv video files. I think it definitely lowers battery life and i would have worries about overclocking all the time and the long term effect it has on the processor (not so important if you only keep your wizard for a year and then change with a new contract - what i do new device once a year!) I found good speed gains with the registry wizard - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725
have not found overclocking produces that much extra speed.

Mine is also set at 264 24/7. Battery still lasts me all day. Been doing it since the oc program was found which I guess has been a couple of months.
Don't forget, you're wizard is only overclocked when it is active (i.e. not in standby mode). When your wizard goes into standby, it automatically goes back to the default 180mhz. Only when you bring it out of standby does it overclock again (assuming you're running it with smartskey with the option of overclocking on wakeup)
i'm using smartkey to constantly run at 264mhz...i have been doing this for a month now...like i said there is not really any problems with the batt unless you run it down totally...there was a post about this in the overclocking thread...the process is set low so that the phone will have a longer batt life...this was also stated in the overclocking thread...theoretically there is more wear if you overclock it since you are making the processor work harder, so use it at your own risk! if you want to be on the safe side then use smartkey and the overclocking prog in the same directory...then use total commander's note pad (while the ini file is highlighted) and change the value lower when you don't want it to constantly run at 264mhz or whatever speed you want to overclock or underclock at...just use it when needed, but i overclock mine constant 264mhz with great results combined with tweaks2k2, registry wizard, and of course the tmobile custom rom ...internet is a blast...just wish i could get it to run like the IE in a pc
anyways hope this helps out a bit further...
activesync
your activesync will hang allot if you overclock, I have noticed this.
DOnt know why.
For some reason i stumbled onto something, im sure its been mentioned b4 but when running Wisbar advance with a Windows vista skin done by xcillion, i am able to overclock my cingular 8125 to 288mhz at a stable rate with no problems at all, can run warcraft 2 full speed with over 50 units battling it out on screen, almost doubles browsing speed and i can run all the emulators including SNES at full speed with sound. when i dont have wisbar advance running i cant go past 240mhz clocking speed. I wonder has anyone else noticed this or gone higher than 288 without a freeze. Also, my battery life runs steady for a full day of browsing the internet talking on mobile messanger and listening to music at half volume for a full day.

hey sonic, where did you get your copy of warcraft 2 for windows mobile ?
I've never heard of warcraft for Windows mobile, how does it run on a 240 MHz overclock?
I got it from the Wargus engine. i can email you the files if need be, i dont want to jeprodize this sites reputation. The game last time i checked was free though...
Actually I'm not sure if it's the overclocking issue or not but ...
For couple of weeks now my Wizard's red led is on all the time, not like it is when your battery is very low but about half of this brightness. I'm not really worried about that, it doesn't change much but it may be connected with overclocking (it was 240 for about a month).
Another thing - once I had sth like 110% speed of every tone played, either a phone call or an incoming message.
It doesn't really matter to me since it's still working fine but it may mean that overclocking isn't that safe as we might think.

Rom'd HTC Hero randomly reboots

Hey guys,
A few weeks back I rom'd my HTC hero with VillainRom 12 and it was working great for awhile. Now however it crashes all the time, or just freezes up and I have to remove the battery.
I have the phone over clocked to about 650mHz. The battery temps seem fine.
Has anyone else experienced this problem before? Any way I can do a debug on my phone to find out what's crashing?
It's really starting to annoy me considering that I use my phone for my business and it's not good when a customer calls and my phone dies and reboots when I go to answer a call.
try overclocking to a lower extent
it might be because your phone cannot handle ur clock speed
(my MAX clock speed is 672... it simply crashes with 691 or higher)
You were absolutely right. It was clocked too high.
I turned it down and now it works great.
Thanks for the tip.
652 seems to be my max.
710 is my max, I can't go below 192 either or the phone starts to have a fit, I wanted to use a lower clock speed in "screen off" mode, but I'll have to stick with 192

Cm7 - Minimum Cpu Settings experience

Hello together,
after i used Cm7.1 for some days with the CPU-Settings
(352-652 Smartass), i recognized that my phone sometimes is a little bit laggy. For example when i suddenly pull down the statusbar, when i open system from lockscreen, when mail arrives and are displayed in status bar. Its not lagging per se, but sometimes it does.
So i changed the lower value to 528 and the phone is much more responsive for me. Because i read in some threads here that people found Gingerbread Cm7 a little bit laggy, maybe that could be a solution for this issue.
Anybody made the same experience with the lower Cpu-settings?
nope. I'm running smartass on 245/710 and the only downside of the lower bound is that it takes a small fraction of a second until the lockscreen is present and (i assume) at 710 mhz. But that doesn't bother me.
I have to check if my incoming calls are delayed though, but no problem so far
(The wildfire will always be laggy sometimes imo, got to live with that )
Ive noticed the lockscreen-delay too, but with a higher cpumin its gone. The incoming calls were not much delayed for me at cpumin:342, ive checked it
10 times and it was always around 800-1500 miliseconds between the reaction of my wildfire and hearing the ringtone of the calling phone.
My problem was the initial lag when starting to do things, as im using the phone not for gaming .....mostly for sms, phoning, navigation and a lot of mailing i just want to have short reaction time get into mail menue and so on.....and this, i found for me, is much better with a higher minimum CPU frequency.

Randomly low performance?

Hey I just got my Z4. Upgraded from a Z2 Play. I bought direct from Motorola off their website. I'm having really strange 2D performance issues, and was wondering if anyone else is having similar issues because they seem outright stupid for a phone as beefy as this one is to be doing this.
OK, so, this is going to sound super vague because I did try to nail it down with a ctrace, but wasn't able to come up with anything conclusive.
Sometimes, when drawing 2D only, my phone will drop to 30fps or lower. This happens in both in the launcher/normal apps and games (Fire Emblem Heroes)
However, when the phone is drawing in 3D (Dragalia Lost) the phone never drops below 60fps, ever, for any reason.
I have tried the developer option to force 2D Drawing on the GPU. This does not change the behavior at all.
This happens regardless of what MotoMod I have attached (None, Car Dock, Projector, 360 Camera)
This seems really weird to me. The phone isn't getting hot. It happens both plugged in and unplugged. Fresh reboots and not. What's interesting about this is it's exactly the opposite of my Z2 Play, which Dragalia F***ing hated (It would run fine for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, and then it would crash) but FEH would run fine on, and never ever have issues, ever, even if the phone hadn't been rebooted in like, 3 months. And the Z2 Play is just generally a weaker, crappier device in every way (Except Ram, I had the 64gb/4gb model of the Z2 Play) than the Z4, I kind of "expect" the Z4 to just do everything the Z2 did but better.
I'm not a particularly heavy user (I upgraded from my Z2 Play because the battery was expanding, not because it was insufficient) and both of the games mentioned are the only things I do on my phone that could be considered to "Push" the phone in any way (Push in quotes because Dragalia and FEH are both REALLY light games.)
Has anyone else noticed any strangeness like this?
I have the same issue, and yes, it's really hard to describe and difficult to determine what causes it.
What it actually looks like to me is that the digitizer randomly goes into a powersaving mode and samples input at a lower frequency. When scrolling through any app, if you hold your finger down, it'll make it look like it's running at 30fps or less. But if you fling a page that can scroll, for the most part the scrolling animation will be full 60fps.
I know for certain that if you reboot the phone, you're more likely to trigger it soon after boot. But, if you suffer through the agonizing experience, the phone will eventually fix itself for the next week or so before it happens again.
Here's the weird part, not everyone is affected by the weird performance. My theory is most people can't detect it or don't care, or there's a particular app that is prompting the digitizer to behave badly. No idea what it is though.

It's definitely not the digitizer though! I have some data! Fire Emblem Heroes has an autobattle mode, This is as likely to happen during an autobattle when I am providing no input (Phone sitting on desk/just watching while holding) as it is when I'm scrolling through my list of apps.
Same problem here, pretty sluggish experience compared to my girlfriend's G7 Plus.
I've noticed that since the latest update, this issue has gone away for me. Anyone else confirm?
I don't think it was the update, but certain apps seem to exaggerate performance issues. I fixed mine by marking Pokemon Go (the only 3d game I play), as "Restricted" under battery usage settings.
I've been testing this configuration for about 2 days now and it looks like that solved it.
Just to set the record straight, the Android 10 update fixed the random performance problems that have plagued the device so far. There is some hitching right after a reboot, but if you let the phone settle, it's fine until the next reboot.

[Help]Received strange message from Android system telling me temp too high while pla

Almost everything in the title. I have an oneplus 8 pro 12gigas
Was playing atom RPG during 1h and a half maybe and received this message from Android system telling me to reduce brightness (which wasn't at the max actually) and telling me as well that some process gonna shut down...
Did you already experiment this kind of issue?
Is it normal ?
Thanks a lot
Cheers

Once. During a. Microsoft teams video call where I was recording the call via screen recorder. Not during a game so far
Tons of times. In many different contexts. First phone ever with which I get this message at least once a week. There isn't much you can do, except maybe removing your case when you play, and/or using a custom kernel which allows for lower clocks (or if you root your device and uses some apps to limits the clocks).
I've also seen this message, and taking the case off seems to help a little...
Thanks for the quick reply.
Have to say that I have a massive Spigen hard case but never experimented these kind of issues before with my other phones.
Anyway, I reduced a bit the brightness, saved my game and 2 min after, system told me that everything was ok...
Don't want to root my phone anymore. Was a big root/flasher in the past ? but don't have time anymore to play with my phone like that .
Will see what happens in the future.
I read also that some players experimented this issue playing atom RPG. Maybe it's the game dunno...
