Toolbox to remove Bloatware.. - Fire HD 6 and 7 General

..from Amazon Fire 7" (9th Generation) tablet.
I downloaded the Toolbox app V.17.1 and it worked great. Removed all the apps I do not need or use. This was early afternoon, and when I opened my tablet in the evening, all the apps were back and there was a message saying Fire updated.
So when the Fire updates, does this mean I have to run the Toolbox every time Amazon updates the tablet? Also, I could have sworn there was an option to remove "updating" from Amazon, but I didn't select it because I thought that would still be a necessary action. But looking at the list of bloatware possibilities, I don't see that, so I don't know where I got that info

If memory serves, you should disable getting updates to prevent any security upgrades preventing unwanted instillations

[Q] March 24th update messed up my Fire

After today's update, I no longer have any of my books, can't view the cloud books either. The music section is no longer there, and I have a stupid music button scrolling my last song played when I hit the setting at the top. All of my favorite apps are gone and Amazon tech has no idea why, they are wanting me to do a factory reset, but we spent so long trying to fix it that they have to call me back when the battery if over 40%. Anyone else have a problem with this update?
What update are you referring to? There hasn't been an update past version 6.2.2.
Yes, there was today. http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/...Forum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx1SYOUQZI1SLRR
It updated the reader and mp3 player and I don't knwo what else, but it also installs Google Play.

u sure about that? i don't see that listed anywhere...
I found out what the problem was, as well as the updates were coming from Google's Play!
I had the same problem. Only way to get my books back was to do a TWRP backup that was a month old.
Same here. Had to recover from an old backup using TWRP.
After all of the BS, I found it best to turn off background sync and make sure the Play is not allowed to update automatically.
Looks like it will be an active day in this forum after the Amazon KF update has tweaked rooted devices.
i'm doing following (on stock rom):
- no automatic updates (only manually)
- don't update amazon software from google play (the kf has special versions which are integrated with the stock launcher - google play is'nt aware of)
- atm this is amazon mp3 and the kindle app
if you accidentially updated one of it simply go to settings - applications and select amazon mp3 or kindle - select uninstall updates - no need to restore a backup
hope this helps ...
I too noticed that all of my books disappeared today.
I still run the stock 6.2.2 ROM, rooted, with Market (google services apps), GO and ADW launchers installed for a more android-like experience. I have my home button set to run GO launcher, and I access the original Kindle Fire UI via a shortcut to "Launcher"
After fighting with this problem of my books all being gone for about an hour, I found that:
1. the Market app is now Play Store, so it looks like that has updated itself.
2. Google's Play Store has installed "Amazon Kindle" app which seems to conflict with the native Kindle software (the app drawer used to have the app "Launcher" as the only app to get back into the stock looking UI that incorporated the reader and book list, but now there is also the app "Amazon Kindle" in the app drawer as well that allows access to books, not the stock UI though).
3. re-registering the device via the Amazon Kindle app seems to allow me access to my books, through the Amazon Kindle app, while the native UI/reader (called "Launcher", with the shelves) does not properly download/show my books.
4. Instead of short-cutting to the "Launcher" app, which is the original kindle fire UI, I set my shortcut to the "Amazon Kindle" app, which seems to work fine.
I only now realize that others are having the same problem I've had, as I read this thread. I still wonder exactly what has been updated -- is this trouble caused by Play Store or Amazon or both?
I for one will not miss running the stock UI, "Launcher", because I thought it was ugly, and now that I can't use it to access my books, it is also useless to me. I suppose that for those who do like it as a launcher, you could add the new GooglePlay-added app Amazon Kindle, to your list of apps in the native launcher, if you really like it and want to continue using it.
After all of this, I am seriously considering flashing a new ROM, which leads me to a few questions: If I run CM7, can I completely erase the kindle ROM from hogging up a portion of ROM space? More importantly, will I lose the ability to take full advantage of my Amazon Prime account I pay for, such as watching Amazon Prime videos?
I actually ran into this problem on Thursday. At first, I thought it was because I played with SuperUser and tried to install Busybox. I ended up restoring a backup that I had from when I first rooted my Fire (which was only a couple of weeks ago). Then when reinstalling everything that I had done in the meantime, it happened again. So another restore. I then started reinstalling things one by one and came upon the problem being the Kindle app. I deleted the update and things seem to be right now.
So maybe just deleting the update is enough to get things back to normal?

Makes perfect sense... Thanks, b

Amazon Appstore FireOS only apps - any work arounds?

My son has a Fire HD 8 tablet that thanks to you all, I have installed LineageOS 7.1.2 on. It runs great now, but we'd like to install an application that is only available in the Amazon App store and designed to run only on stock FireOS. I think the app would run perfectly fine on the tablet with Lineage installed, but unfortunately the Amazon App store no longer recognizes the tablet as a Fire tablet and therefore blocks our ability to download the app.
Is there some sort of workaround that could be tried here? I've read about people modifying build.prop to spoof the device type and run "unsupported" apps, so perhaps that is the route we'd take here? I'm just sort of stumped here and really don't want to go buy another fire tablet just so we can run stock fire os for his game.
The apps in question are the Osmo kids learning series. Any help would be very much appreciated.
*edit - i have searched for .apks of the app online that would allow me to manually install, but i have been unable to turn any up.

Isolating HD 8 2018 2020 from everything Amazon - especially updates.

Hello everyone.
I have both a Kindle Fire 8 HD 2018 and a new 2020 available for this specific use.
I want to dedicate one tablet for one use only which needs to be kept secure. The only internet connection would be to banks etc - no other web use at all.
The question is how do I set this up. I am not looking to use any of the Amazon installed apps but I am happy just to put the icons in a folder & then ignore them.
I am looking at installing Libre Office, Firefox, a file manager, password encryption and document encryption both for security on the tablet and to enable back up.
My concern is about things going on of which I am not aware - in particular related to all the unwanted Amazon installed bits including the operating system.
I am not going to use an Amazon nor Google account nor will I ever open an Amazon web page but I suspect that this will not stop updates unless it also stops the tablet ringing home (???)
How do I isolate my tablet from everything Amazon whilst it is connected to the internet for other things?
If you see any other problems I would be pleased to know about them before I commit.
I am aware of the Fire Toolbox but I am not sure if it meets my needs.

You have to use a VPN firewall app such as NoRoot Firewall to block Amazon updates.

Amazon Fire 10HD 11th Gen + Google Play Store error

So after my grandchildren signed me up to Amazon Prime without my knowledge on my kindle fire, I decided to use the kindle toolbox on their brand new fire HD 10 tablets (11th generation).
I completely debloat all the Amazon software (after enabling dev options menu), install google play services, waited a minimum of 10 mins as advised before trying google play and I also installed evie launcher – all of this was done using the toolbox v27.
The problem is when I try to log my kids into their new tablets using their own gmail accounts, I keep getting the ‘something went wrong’ screen and all I can do is try again, but it keeps on failing.
I’ve tried not removing amazon software and then adding google play, but that doesn’t work.
The only thing that does work is if I login to play store using my account.
My thinking is this must be a family link / permissions thing because they’re all under 8 years old.
The really confusing thing is when I did this same thing on my kids Huawei T30 tablets, it worked fine, no problems???
So, it’s either some security setting in the fire tablet, or because these fire tablets have a newer version of android than the old and no longer working Huawei tablets (Android v6).
Anyone got any ideas how I can login my kids into their own play store on their own fire hd 10 tablets using their own google accounts, without creating child profiles and without leaving my account logged in on their tablets for them?
The only thing I can come up with is to change their d.o.b. in their google accounts, log them in, then change it back, but I suspect this won’t work long term.
I really need to understand what’s causing the problem first.

Just bought HD10 11th (2021) 7.3.2.1. How to block updates and what to do?

Hello
Bought HD 2021, no ads version
In short:
1. Need to block the updates. How do I go about it? I have a router, so blocking the traffic to Amazon maybe?
2. I'd love to completely disconnect the tablet from Amazon. I wish to gain maximum intrussion on my privacy, so I'd love to get rid of Alexa etc. But if there's something which improves the chances of increasing compability with older apps installed from a pre-downloaded files, not from Google Play etc. I'd like that too. Basically "what would you do in the first place". Aside from the looks. I don't really care how my icons arrangement looks like or if I can get somewhere in 2 clicks instead of 3. Not sure if the launcher swap is for me then.
After spending some time googling, I found that there's no way to install LineageOS on this one. And people talk about bad 7.3.2.2 update. (I have 7.3.2.1)
So, please help a noob with some simple step-by-step advise on what should I do (no need to tell me the actual steps of each procedure, I can google, but keep in mind I'm a total noob to Android and PC-Android apps, so please don't use shortcuts which prelong my future googling by 1000x, thanks )
I just powered it on, checked the firmware version, and didn't connect the internet to it yet.
OK, so I needlessly worried after finding a 5 method list of removing the auto updates and comments about none working, and thought Toolbox is mainly for changing launchers.
To answer most of my questions:
- Toobox allows to disable the updates, has ALL the options nicely explained and you can just read through all the menu items to learn what to do and what's what. It allows to remove the spying Amazon crap (Alexa), allows to sideload apps without using any stores (not even google account required, I guess ), restores Google Play access and gives direct access to the filesysem for easy file transfer. Among other.
Awesome thing. I didn't finish using the Toolbox yet, but seems like I'll be able to use the tablet now.
I have a new question though. If my OS version is from 2021, and I don't want the new updates, what about security vulnerabilities? Am I now an easy target?
edit: Still have Alexa
Amazon Alexa is one service
and
Alexa - is the name of second service
Also, how do I disable the Google Assistant after replacing Alexa with it?
Lastly. I have only 1.3GB of 3GB RAM free? Or is this under developer settings in Android settings menu, not properly displayed?
