Turning in my old HD 8 8th gen - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my daughter's HD 8, 8th gen when it released and I haven't really messed with it since. Sorry, if I'm a little out of touch with this stuff, but I could use some help.
I'm picking up one of the new HD 10 Plus when it comes out and so we're doing a trade in with her old tablet. I'm scrambling a bit to get things back to stock so I can send it in for inspection and approval in time for my daughter's birthday coming up. I assume to remove root, twrp, google and all the rest I just need to flash the tablet back to a stock rom? I'm not sure where exactly to find that though.
Any help would be appreciated!
Also, when a new device comes out do you guys just keep it off of wifi so it doesn't update until an exploit releases?

Are these stock roms just unavailable online?

all latest fire os are on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=G2JXLC4L34GX73TE
dont think Amazon cares much about root or TWRP on ur return. if u wanna, download the fire os for 8th gen hd8, rename the bin file as zip n flash it from TWRP. dat should give u the standard Fire startup screen
when u get ur Fire HD 10+, plz do post ur experience w its performance. it has more ram n should be the fastest fire tab yet. thanx!

Get yourself a copy of Amazon Fire Toolbox from here and use it to at least disable OTA updates before you turn on WiFi. You can start the new tablet and bypass the WiFi connection just to get it running and connect it to your PC.

kindle Fire

I just got my Amazon Kindle Fire 2 days ago and i love it. I want to know if ther is a full 100% original factory stock rom to restore and the step by step instructions to reinstall it? I wanted to root and try to install some roms but i need the full stock and recovery to install the roms. I never rooted the kindle before and i never used roms and i dont know what the full stock file is called or anything so i need info and help. I have successfully rooted my android phones and the samsung galaxy tab 7 plus. And i can change roms on them roms too but i have 0% experience on the amazon kindle. My mom got me this for me its a late christmas present and it will crush my heart if i screw it up with no way back to full stock. So i have to be extra carefull. Does anybody know if amazon is going to release android 4 ics for the kindle fire because that is what i want is the ics update and the only way i can see the ability to get it is istalling one of the roms from this site?
Only way you'll see ICS on this device is via CM9 or similar.

KFU will do a lot for you. You can root and install TWRP via the Kindle Fire Utility. Read up and you should be good.

[Q] KFU - Just Help!

Hello Peeps,
Firstly, Im new to this, secondly I'm nowhere near knowledgeable for this undertaking.
So, Ive got a first Gen KF, running factory software version 10.4.6. I got it last year for Xmas and basically forgot I had it until now.
I'd much rather run a version of Android that will actually let me do what I want to do.
I've tried downloading the latest version of KFU I can find v9.9 but it just says its offline, tried reloading drivers a couple of times, all setting are allowed on the KF itself.
Is there a newer Utility anywhere that doesn't require Linux?
I have a laptop running Windows 7 Pro.
I'm hoping someone out there can help me as I don't want to buy a tablet if I don't have to.
Thank you
according to your software version you have a kindle fire 2 !
look and go for help in the corresponding forum:

Yes and as a warning don't use kfu on and 2nd gen device, you will hard brick it.

KIndle Fire HD8 6th Gen ROM request

Good morning, ive just managed to root my Kindle Fire HD 8 6th generation tablet thanks to you guys. Its the first time ive done anything like this on Android and it was interesting learning how to sideload .adb and .bin files so thanks for that.
The whole reason ive done this is because I cant stand the Fire OS. Its ugly and annoying and I like my systems as clean as possible.
So I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction of a ROM that will work on my system and is as clean as possible. Preferably just Android with Google play store installed. If not just Android that I can side load the play store onto.
As I said its the first time ive dealt with Android so I don't know if im asking the wrong questions, saying things that don't make much sense or am asking for too much.
Any information you have will be appreciated though.
Thanks,
T
Or just any decent Android ROM at all that will work with this model. Ive downgraded to Fire OS 5.3.1.1, rooted it using Kingoroot and tried installing the Nexus ROM from the below thread using FlashFire v0.55.1. My device hung at the 'fire' splash screen and I had to restart it. Luckily it is not bricked but it didn't apply the ROM either
im considering downgrading to 5.1.1 and giving it another go

Did it work? did you try in the end? I am considering doing the same and I will love to have some feedback. Thanks!

Downgrading my Kindle

Hello I have a Kindle Fire HD 8 2016 on 5.6.8.0, is there a way to safely downgrade it without bricking it? Or a way to do it and unbrick it without it undoing the downgrade? Last time I downgraded it then unbricked it and my WiFi and Bluetooth wouldn't work so I had to upgrade it, though it wasn't on the version I wanted. I could still root it but it had no WiFi so I couldn't do anything else.

same here, looks like some people got the '
Move to Lineage-14.1 from Fire OS 5.6.7.0
' to work from our fireos quote: '
Confirm this worked for me as well for FIreOS 5.6.8.0! Moved to Lineage 12.1 (need working camera).
Just a small tip. Don't waste your time with Windows Subsystem for Linux. Better use normal installation or live-system instead. '
im going to try it, I'll let you know how I get on

Yes! Went to lineage 11 then clean install to 12 following the offline root and install method. Issues I had were:
Microsd not working, no headphones via physical cable as well as battery life would tank with WiFi on. There's a fix thread under the lineage 12.1 install that had fixes for all of these. Working great as a cbr reader and web browser now.

My First Fire HD 10 (11th Gen) Can It Be Rooted?

Just bought this yesterday and updated it to the latest firmware. I checked around here and couldn't find much on the newer version of this tablet. I see there are custom roms for Fire tablets. I've used the Fire Toolbox already but I would love to root my device and install both twrp and a custom rom on it, is this possible on this table running the latest firmware?
Can any one help point me in the right direction please? Thanks for the help and time.
No current roms, but you can do a lot fir Fire Toolkit to make it as straight Android as possible. Currently though, you're screwed if you let it update to the newest Fire OS version, as you can no longer disable OTA updates and you can't install a custom launcher. If I were you, I'd return it and get a new one. Don't connect it to wifi, and skip initial setup. Then immediately disable updates with Fire Toolkit and install Nova Launcher or another 3rd party launcher.
I was recently in the same boat. Accidentally let it my new HD10 update since it automatically connected to my home wifi (damn Amazon saving my wifi passwords even though I tell them no on every device!). I returned it and got a new one. Made sure to turn off my home wifi before booting up the tablet. At that point, click any wifi network, then cancel when it asks for a password. You can then skip setup and begin setting it up with Fire Toolkit. I firstly disable lock screen ads (which also turns off updates), then register the device to my Amazon account, then complete the other tasks in Toolkit.
Does anybody know if there is work being done on rooting the current Fire HD 10 Plus?
I am thinking about buying one for travelling and Home Automation, but if it cannot be rooted it will probably not be worth buying.

No, you cannot root it due to Fire OS 7.3.

Eventually it will be however for the moment, using Firetool box is the next best thing and so easy to get up and running that IMO beats rooting for how easy it is to use.
How about hard resetting your tablet to its default OS version, install a non-root firewall, block OTA updates and related processes then customize with fire toolbox to have an almost true android experience.. anybody know which files to block? And would this actually worK?

How would you go about hard-ressetting it?
I have several Amazon Fire HD 8s and HD 10's that are exhibiting the issue of not being able to display some webpages due to the out of date Android System Webview. I tried installing the latest version which is 95 but the version that Fully Kiosk reports is 59 (which is out of date). My fire OS is verion 5. How can I overcome this issue?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Noroot firewall from playstore will block all amazon communication including OTA updates. Just allow your browser through the firewall and block the rest except perhaps google play and you will have no further problem.
Just got a fire hd10 and it came with 7.3.something, and quickly did a factory reset so that it doesn't do the updates.
Can I install custom rom on this or not?
