Moto G5 Plus temporarily freezes for short periods of time - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Restored a rooted G5 Plus back to stock firmware (re-locked bootloader). After restoring a number of apps the phone now freezes for 10 to 30 seconds after clearing the lock screen to access the device then every 20 to 40 minutes the same issue crops up again. Is there any way to figure out which app is the cause without going through another lenghty process of restoring to stock and reloading apps one at a time? Like a way to view some sort of log files that show which app is freezing or consuming all phone resources? Or an app that will do the same?
A few times I've had calls disconnect, listening to music freezes for short periods of time, and the System UI or what ever app is open will also freeze because of this.
And a second issue cropped up as well post restore to stock, getting a "Updating Bluetooth Context" notification that pops up briefly and disappears from time to time. Searching doesn't seem to indicate a solid root cause to this (like an app) but seems to be something some have had crop up.

[Q] Know of any apps or games that really slow down the phone after installing?

I'm not quite sure which one(s) were the culprits but I just went on a mass uninstall of any program I don't use every day. The phone was getting so slow that it almost acted like it wanted to lock up. One time last week it froze up for a couple minutes while trying to text someone with voice to text in stock app. I suspect it was "extreme call blocker" and "poweramp". The reason I suspect those is every time I booted up, I'd get bottom notifications about loading libraries and starting services. I might be wrong but it seems like it's not as slow. I will have to run it a few days to see if there's any improvement.

[Q] Functionality problems after NK1 update

Hi. I foolishly updated to NK1 a month or so ago assuming there was a root. Since the update, I've been having some really annoying basic functionality problems with my Note 3 (outside of it feeling sluggish overall). I've gotten around keyboard freezes, input lag and general f-ups in the Messenger app by switching to Textra. The now nonexistent haptic feedback was "fixed" by increasing the vibration length for each key on the keyboard. For some apps, I've sideloaded an old version to get them to behave like they did before the update. However, there are a few other issues that I'm hoping someone may have some ideas how to fix.
1) YouTube will constantly error out when trying to load a video and my subscriptions list. The white circle will just spin and spin until it finally gives me a "video cannot load" error. If a video won't load, it won't load no matter how many times I click on it to refresh it. I'll have to either close the app and reopen it, or for the really difficult times, restart my phone. Also, if I shrink the app rather than close it when I'm done, no videos will play when I reopen the app unless I close it or restart my phone.
2) The stock camera clears its settings whenever it feels like it. Auto flash, face detection and image stabilization will randomly turn from "on" and "auto" to "off."
3) All of the web browsers (Opera, Chrome, default browser) and Google Maps just randomly hang for about 2 minutes as they try to load data from Wi-Fi and 4G signals. It's similar to what happens with YouTube but they eventually fix themselves after these long hiccups.
4) Often when the backlight turns off before the phone is going to sleep and I touch the screen to keep it awake, the backlight gets stuck in its turned off state, making it hard to see the screen. The only way to get around this is to put the phone to sleep and then wake it up. It does this at least a few times a day.
5) Pulling down the notification bar will sometimes randomly cause my phone screen to start flashing between the notification bar and the lock screen. I have to do a hard reset when this happens.
Thanks in advance for the help! I'm sorry this post is so long. I hate this update and am seriously considering going to HTC.
Have you tried a factory reset?
I have not. I was trying to avoid that if possible and use a last resort.

It's probably your best option. But first try clearing data in the offending apps. Or making sure the apps are updated, or even unibnstalling and reinstalling the apps.

Startup Keypad Lag Issue

Hi to all from a 99% highly satisfied v20 user!
I have run into an intermittent issue with my Verizon v 20 (VS99513A).
ONLY when I initially power-up the phone, do I sometimes (often enough to be a nuisance but far from consistent) get a significant lag on the "Secure start-up" page of the keyboard appearing where I enter my passcode. There have been a small handful of times that, no matter what I did in terms of waiting or tapping, the keyboard would not appear causing me to do a power-off/restart which always cleared the issue.
Most of the time I wait until the screen flashes a brighter light before tapping ( just a few seconds) and (most of the time) the keyboard appears. It will also appear frequently on its own if you just wait long enough.
The problem is the inconsistency of the keyboard not appearing reasonably quickly so I can enter my passcode and go on with my life's journey at that point!
I have chosen NOT to use the fingerprint entry system for a number of reasons and prefer using the above system.
My one desire is to have the keyboard appear as quickly as is reasonably possible and do so consistently.
Other that that specific issue, I love this phone!
I did search for this issue and did not see anything approximating it. If I missed then please accept my humble apology for any duplication with this query.
Bootup times can vary. And with Verizon bloat I'm sure it is wildly more inconsistent. I rarely.run into this issue, but I also rarely reboot my phone. Perhaps a cache clear might help? Don't know what else to do besides factory reset but sure you don't want to do that. I just rooted my phone and haven't noticed any performance issues aside from battery life seeming worse. Not related to root though as i updated to 10j Sunday, rooted last night and hoping battery life goes back to what it was on 10d.
Just for some clarification, what do you mean by power up? Is it turning the phone off completely and restarting it or just clicking the power button ( or double tap the screen).
If its a boot up, then its usual normal to have the keyboard take a moment to pop up due to everything loading
If its the second then try using a different keyboard or factor resetting the phone

"Is it turning the phone off completely and restarting it..." Yes, that is the only time(s) it happens.
I grasp the idea of "loading" but cannot (equally) grasp the inconsistent amount of time that it takes for the keyboard to materialize. The few times where no keyboard appearing leading to a reboot deepens the mystery for me.
If the extended loading time is due (largely) to verizon bloat, is there a safe way to rid oneself of as much of it as possible?

Of course, you can disable the apps by going into Setting>General tab>Apps. From there you just find the Verizon apps and disable as much of them as possible. Which stops them from booting when you restart.
One thing to keep in mind when powering up the device is a few programs want to start up at the same time (like your wallpaper, getting signal from service provider, loading the apps on your screen, loading widgets, etc). Which causes the keyboard to be pushed but back in a queue. Happens to me all the time, but I only restart my phone once every week and I give it a moment for everything to be settled in.

Sent from my LG V20 using XDA Labs
To All,
My issue appears to have resolved itself if I restrict my tapping to the vertical blinking cursor on the left end of the entry line.
Tapping ONLY here consistently brings up the number pad.
Previously, tapping just about anywhere on the screen would bring it up.
Problem solved.
Thanks.

Lockups and lag?

Over the past couple of months my 6t has gotten progressively laggy and periodically locks up for a period of a few seconds. The main offenders look to be Chrome and Microsoft Outlook. Chrome will occasionally just hang up and stop responding to touch, keyboard typing, etc. Sometimes is resumes responding in a few seconds, but at other times I have to kill all apps to get things going again. Microsoft Outlook, which I must unfortunately use for work, will not load and display individual messages 80% of the time. The title loads but the body does nothing. Sometimes if I let it sit there for 10-15s the message will load, but most of the TIME I need to go back one screen and reload 3-4 times.
I have not installed anything new on the phone other than OP updates. Was wondering if there is a new setting or functionality that may be causing this. Not looking to wipe the phone and start all over for this. Ifnai am going to spend a few hours reinstalling everything I might as well buy a new phone.

Sounds like a kernel issue. Oneplus 6t stock kernel sucks which is why most of us with this phone root and, find another kernel. I have not had any issues since being rooted and, using the omega kernel along with nolimits xXx.

Certain apps freezing on MIUI 12.5.3

Hello, I've had this issue for a couple of months now. I've got a Redmi Note 7 updated to its last supported MIUI version. The issue that I'm having is, certain apps take a long time to respond. For example, when I open the Gallery app, the media shows up but when I try to open a photo it freezes or goes to a black screen, I then have to wait up to a minute until I get the popup at the bottom asking me if I want to close it or wait, so I choose wait and after another minute or so, the photo loads up.
The MIUI file manager does this too and unfortunately it's not just limited to the MIUI apps but others as well. Viber, Revolut, YouTube, Yodel, Wise, and a bunch of other apps that I download do this. Sometimes the issue gets fixed only temporarily when I uninstall the Webview app's updates or clear its data but it's only good for a couple of minutes. Sometimes the whole screen would go black and it would just freeze, I then have to hold the power button for a couple of seconds and it does this quick reboot where the MIUI logo appears with the sound for about 10 seconds or so and I'm on the lockscreen. I figured Google messed something up with an update for that app but it's been months and it's been through a couple of updates where I hoped this issue would be fixed but no.
I've tried a factory reset + flashing the firmware but they still keep on freezing. Could it be some memory issue? I really don't wanna switch to a new phone as I'm still satisfied with the battery life on this one and its specs overall still get the job done for calls, regular internet browsing, social media and watching videos. Has anybody else experienced this?
