[solved] Update after unbrick (HELP !) - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I accidentally hard-bricked my OP5 yesterday (interrupted an accidental reboot - yikes) and managed to unbrick it using the MSMDownloadtool from one of the threads here (thanks!). But I realized afterward that the MSM I used was an old one, and that I have Android 8.1.0 installed and no way to upgrade it (the phone doesn't find any update, and flashing the zip from the official website, I think there is a compatibility issue and it doesn't work...). As I'm really annoyed with android 8 and liked android 10 so much more, is there any way to upgrade it back to android 10?
My question might have already been answer, but I really don't understand most of the things that are said in here...
It might also be important to point out I have some issues with my drivers on my laptop. Windows wouldn't find the ADB driver from Android Studio (while virtually every tutorial said it should work...) and fastboot couldn't find my device.
I hope someone will read this haha ^^'
I'll be forever thankful if someone finds the solution...
edit: The solution was pretty easy actually. Use the "Oxygen updater" that will gradually update your OS until it's recent enough that the phone automatically finds the last update

Great to know you were able to unbrick your device.
I have a similar situation, have bricked my device and tried the MSM download tool to flash, but could not get my device to boot (I get the black screen - blue led on boot).
Could you please share the link to the MSMDownloadtool with the Android 8.1.0 image (let me try with this to see if this can work).

[Q] Chuwi Wi8 Win8.1 Bay Trail tablet bricked /w blackscreen-UEFI flashing failed

I had a somewhat small problem with this tablet - the virtual keyboard was not as fast as i'd exected to be. So I wanted to reinstall the OS by reflashing the rom/tool provided at http://www.needrom.com/download/chuwi-vi8/ .
It went well, the OS installed but at the end, that tool updated the uefi firmware too. I expected that, i kinda knew what I was doing. At about 80% of uefi flashing, the device went blackscreen and today it's still like that, Maybe battery was too low or it was simply the wrong Bios-uefi This is the first device I permanently broke.... It cannot be connected to a PC simply because it's a PC by its own... Or is it? There is no info on flashing dead win8.1 tablets on google.... Please help me out!

[Q] HELP! only able to load stock recovery and bootloader

Hi all. New poster and completely non-tech savy. Over the last few days I've been tinkering with my phone trying to learn about various roms and related. I had successfully flashed the CM11 update to my droid X but found that the OS was running extremely slow. example ( while trying to talk through hangouts it would take 2-3 seconds for each letter to not only to show up but also register so I could type my next letter.) This having been the case I tried to downgrade the OS to stock or some older rom. Since going through the steps I find myself in alot of trouble! I am now able to load stock recovery and bootloader only! I am unable to get into Twrp or CWM at all. The phone if loaded regularly will only go as far as the Motorola logo and no further. It will stay on that logo until the battery is taken out. I am unable to power down or reboot otherwise. Unfortunatley I am unable to supply official information like Build and the related but I can say before flashed to CM11 it was the standard Droid X 2.3.4.621 M810 and the CM 11 build was the most recent CM 11 (shadow) build as of 5/18/2015. I need help to load into Twrp or whatever I can do to just load past the motorola logo screen. Oh lastly, I have installed the Motorola Driver program but my computer doesnt seem to be able to find the connection. It does show on device manager and states it is fully upto date driver wise. However it isnt found in RSD Lite run as admin. PLEASE help and or let me know of any information you need to assist me further. Keep in mind though at this time the info i have access to is very limited because of the access i dont have to the phone.

See my
Using RSD Lite to flash a .SBF to restore (Stock Rom)
on Droid X (Shadow-MB810)
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Thats actually the guide I was following. Followed everything and started getting caught up at the RSD lite part. Tried all the provided solutions but phone still isn't found by RSD lite. Please help me get over that hump. Hoping it will be all down hill from there. Device manager is showing phone as "Motorola USB Device > Motorola Flash Interface" Not what your guide shows. Have tried updating drivers from manager but it claims I have the most up to date. Using Windows 8.1 dont know if thats relevant, Thanks for the help btw.
OMG! I DID IT!!! Thanks for the help. After searching for an answer/fix for DAYS I figured it out. Your Guide is AWESOME and very helpful but the one thing it didn't mention which is what I did to make it all finally work was to download VMplayer and do everything in a Windows 7 OS. You might want to add that to your guide as a troubleshooting step. Otherwise, THANK YOU!!!

BootLooping

I have tried recovery mode and factory reset.
I'd like to refashioned the os and give that a try. But I don't want a custom Rom unless that Rom can be updated without flashing.
I really don't want to have to buy another phone right now.
I have googled the issue but the links are from 2017. I want some up to date links with current info.
Also a nice step by step tutorial would be nice. As I'm not experienced flashing and whatnot. Oh and no sarcastic comments like "step 1: find the stock Rom, step 2 plug into pc and flash" because that really doesn't help.

Only using attitude because people always send a bunch of useless inks from years ago with links to mega or google drive that no longer exists.
I just wasn't in the mood for the same crap I was told when I tried to flash stuff onto an LG G4. Stuff like being given instructions assuming I'm experienced and dead links. I'm tired of clicking on mega and drive links only to find what I'd been searching for has been deleted.
Even new phones have mega files people would remove.
I'm not blaming anyone. I was just sternly for the right stuff and no vague responses.
Yes I can use the search.
I should just garbage this phone. All I've read about it was issues and issues. Every SD810 and SD808 has been nothing but a mess.
I'll easily blame qualcomm for that one.
If you aren't experienced and not willing to take the time to learn...don't bother trying to flash. And regardless of the fact that all people don't provide "relevant" info/help, you should still be thankful. No one here has to do/help with all this stuff, it is a community and should be appreciated.

I can't install the android USB drivers because the PC doesn't connect to ANY port on my PC so I can't update the drivers (restarted, full shutdown, two different cords)
I can't get into the phone to access developer mode so I can unlock the bootloader
Let's start there. I found a video on youtube, but the link the guy provided was dead, it was a 3 year old link afterall.
I think, I am doing it right?
I am installing the Android Developer thing so I can get the drivers installed for the device.
then I can try and unlock the bootloader "somehow" I have yet to look into this.
I just HATE HATE HATE, when I am trying to do one thing and 6 other things get in my way and then things stem and branch off from those things that it results in me being so far from the original task that it's just aimless.
on BB10, to flash new OS, you downloaded a EXE file for windows, pressed it twice, said yes I am an admin and BAM, os was flashed.
Why can't android be that simple.
EDIT: if I let the phone sit, it goes to an "encryption unsuccessful" screen then hangs there for ages then just restarts. Sometimes I can get a factory reset option, but that doesn't do anything.
I went into recovery mode to wipe it, NOTHING
wiped the cache, nothing.
I am very very very frustrated. That's all. I just didn't want to be frusterted and then someone nicely comes along and says "watch this video, it has everything you need" then that video has dead links or something. I still am frusterated.
Why is the OS failing to encrypt, why is it corrupt?
Okay, new issue.
I can't get into the OS to bootloader unlock the phone. So I get an oem unlock error through adb. I guess this is the end of the road right?
Look for nexus 6p 4 core fix and you'll find the info you need.

What are my options today to have a free ROM (e.g. postmarketOS, lineageOS,...)

Hello,
I'm new here and I registered because now after searching, reading and trying different things I'm a bit confused
And: Most information is quite old...
I was donated a LG device that gives me these informations about itself:
Modellnummer: LG-K350n
Android-Version: 6.0
Android Sicherheitspatch-Level: 2018-04-01
Kernel-Version: 3.18.19
Build-Nummer: MRA58K
Software-Version: V10k-EUR-XX
My initial idea was to have postmarketOS on it and use it as kind of a small tablet - e.g. to read/write eMails, take pictures, have video-conversations via tox, use it as a music-player and maybe use it as a GPS-device (offline, just via GPS). Connections should only be made via WiFi. No SIM should be required - to make calls and SMS I have a separate feature phone, so I don't need the telephony-module.
After a while I befriended myself with lineageOS or even replicant. In such a case maybe I would even use it as cellphone and keep my feature-phone just as a back-up.
My main aspect is to have a device I control - not someone else (e.g. google).
I know that it would be easier just to use stock android and maybe fiddle a bit around, but I don't trust android/google/...
I don't need google-applications, facebook/What's-App, some cloud-based-stuff... - never did and never will. (I prefer to stay away from things that require these - if something has it mandatory then I will not use it.)
What I did until today: Following gottlasz' guide Friendly root method for lg k8 and k10 but got stuck without a version of TWRP that fits on my firmware. I found one that clamied to be OK for my firmware (https://www.cyanogenmods.org/downloads/twrp-recovery-for-lg-k8/). Booted into it, then I installed rce_univ.zip, supersu and rce_univ.zip again. But then the phone was in a bootloop saying that it was corrupted before it tried to boot itself again. With the help of a friend I restored the stock-ROM with LG Bridge (he has Windows10 on his laptop) - that took about 10 hours because here we don't have fast internet-connections...
I'm willing to put effort in this project and try to build/compile all kinds of things myself. But I need help in the way someone could guide me with what are the steps to be taken next. My PC (amd64) is running linux (gentoo to be precisely) and in a VirtualBox I have a copy of Window$ XP SP3 (32-bit).
After this toying around I found it hard to get up-to-date informations on what is possible today. And I don't want get stuck again like I was (and of course I don't want to brick it completely ).
So, please help me on my way to free my phone, I'd be glad to offer further information if needed.
Thanks a lot!
Quick answer, forget about it not going to happen.
I have k350nds with same hardware but it's dual sim and long time ago I was trying to build rom from lineage sources since there is mt6735 device tree for ex cyanogenOS and I didn't succeed because lack of knowledge and computing power, however even if I did succeeded I won't be able to flash it because nothing can be flashed, not even twrp it can be only booted from fastboot, because of some 'security' measures, it may be reverse engineered and some with knowledge can make a rom but it won't happen since device isn't so populated etc. And therefore you can only use this phone as is, I think at this point it cannot even be rooted. I received update of 11mb which didn't update patch level or anything else that I notice.

Hello Professor Woland,
thats' a pity! But thanks for your answer anyway!

Question I've tried so hard and got so far.

Hi, I've been struggling big time to update my device to Android 13. I bought mine when only 1.1.7 hotfix was out and therefore, now that I have unlocked the bootloader (yes, even unlock critical) and rooted the device, I'm not able to install 1.1.8, let alone Android 13. I have already bricked one and managed to get a new one but I don't want to risk it again. I've searched all over Google to a proper guide to update to Android 13, even with sideload, but it gives me an error regarding the payload file, at about 48% of the progress. Tried the *#*#682#*#* method but it stops with error code 20. I have tried flashing the stock boot file but same thing, code 20 from manual update. I'm pretty much desperate at this point and I'm even thinking about unrooting, lock the bootloader again and hopefully update it without an itch, but I really wouldn't want to wipe the device, so, if there's somebody there that could help me through a 100% working process, I'll always be in your debt.

The best part of this whole thing is that you're rooted.
Do a backup with Swift Backup or what ever your backup app you prefer. Wipe it back to stock without locking the bootloader, make sure your sim card is not inserted then do your OTA updates.
As for the second device you bricked, there's a unbrick tool here:
unbrick tool- EDL Flash-Read-Repair Region Change tool
unbrick tool Now available for Nothing Phone1.. Features: Read Firmware (EDL) (locked bootloader) Flash Firmware (EDL) (locked bootloader) backup EFS (EDL) (locked bootloader) Wipe FRP & userdata (EDL) (locked bootloader) Size: 2.7GB Version...
forum.xda-developers.com
Just need to get or make a EDL cable then flash and you'll be back in business.

First bricked device was replaced in RMA. But yeah, rooted, unlocked and yet nothing works. I was thinking about wiping it, even if I don't really want to because it's a pain every time. Man, Android modding when to ****e and I'm leaning more and more towards getting an iPhone and call it a day, maybe with a jailbreak

Swift does their backups well so from wipe to setup depending on how many apps ya got took like 20 mins to do?
Once you get to A13 tho, my god the battery life is amazing. I don't use my NP1 as a daily driver but it sits in my pocket along with my daily OP7Pro and it out lasts it by a mile. Really hyped for the NP2 and what they bring optimization wise.
Or in your case you could carry both and see how you feel about it xD
Oh and it's likely the patched boot image (while rooted) that's causing the update errors. Once you restore the stock boot image you should be able to update without issue.

Welp, back to stock you go then haha ADB it to EDL then run the unbrick tool and you should be at 0
I might be actually lazy enough to wait for a hint of a custom twrp-like recovery and go from there

Might not be stable on first release but yea that's in the rumor pipelines
Yeah, I think I'll wait. A12 is still really nice. Some bugs here and there but perfectly usable and battery is basically infinite.
First of all, to jailbreak the iPhone and set it up correctly with all the needed software that jailbreaking provides nowdays ... is actually harder than it was a few years ago.
Secondly, if you had just read through the full topic containing the Nothing OS repo, you would have found several people with the same problem that u had, who had solved it successfully.
Go back to stock, wipe, and redo the official step-by-step of updating, will work like a charm. if you want to jailbreak. First, read through the posts of others to see if there are any problems that you would like to avoid, and if there are, don't do it.
You are lucky enough to have had your first device replaced by a new one just like that. Updating while rooted was always a problem for Android, and it always varied per device. it was up to the one who is rooting to check the situation regarding his/her specific model
You could try flashing the fastboot ROMs made by @ot_inc (it's not 100% safe for your data so make a backup in any case).

Where is the step by step ? The one that actually works ?
hmm, honestly it may be on somewhere in the first few pages (not the first one) but you can also search the google, now there are several sites quoting options for updating nothing phone.
sorry if i sounded harsh
anyways, if you go back to stock, and update the device from 1.1.7 to 1.5 incl. all hotfix updates, it should go smoothly.
I also said if you want to jailbreak in one moment in my post when i meant to say if you want to root.
Rooting nowdays is easy and hard at the same time. easy to pull off, but hard to understand that now there are several different steps that need to be done to turn the rooted device into a fully functional one. and for many it is not worth it, but for those that are interested, I would just advise reading through all the posts carefully and learning to search efficiently. Not only will you find the answer yourself, thus remembering it more clearly, but you will also be introduced to facts you were unaware of.
good luck, the most important step is to go back to stock succesfully, read the whole nothing os repo thread just to make sure you are not missing something
