Fire TV Stick 2 Firmware and apps. Official Cloud Front direct links - Fire TV General

@rbox, @0815hoffi, @Sus_i, @Kramar111, @k4y0z, @Ighor, @Pretoriano80 and others,
Let's do a thread similar to 4k. Please contribute the cloudfront links you have for other versions. Sharing is caring!
Let me seed a few links, the 2 very early ones are extracted by me, some are from this thread ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/fire-tv-stick-2-tank-prerooted-stock-images-5-2-7-3_r1.3912271/ ). Here is a rough guide for which is which for the early versions:

You ask why do it? Because we can!!!
Version 5.2.2.0 (Build 555164620) - Not the factory image ( that would be Build 555164120), but the next closest thing!!! The very first minor update!!

I could not chase the official link to this one ... Amazon does not send it in a sequence of updates. I am using a cloned Version 5.2.4.2 (Build 574263220) of my purchased Fire stick, it's nice and lightweight. It needs a new com.amazon.venezia.apk though, otherwise the apps don't show up properly in the official Fire launcher.

[Tool]Converter Bin-to-Zip

This tool is for the conversion of meizu's bin formatted rom files to zip. I didn't make the tool, but I can't recall where I got it either.
link
I made the tool. There's a topic on meizume dedicated to it but feel free to discuss it here.
http://d-h.st/users/iSilver
It is quite bloated because of the Qt dlls (couldn't be arsed to recompile the whole beast statically) and that doesn't count the VC 2008 runtime. Oh well.
I have found it is essentially good for converting stock bins to zips, as the other way round won't be helpful for CN devices - a check in the Mz recovery has a special code path for HK devices (based on /proc/uboot_version), which accepts all stuff regardless of whether it's signed updates or not. That's why you could flash anything, prerooted ROM, or even a su package (no need to mess with TPsparky indeed).
OTH, the CN version:
- checks sig of what it flashes (thus only stock updates may be flashed)
- had a (RSA ?) checksum for each partition and thus cannot be written to freely (e.g. mod the recovery image)
- is the reason my next phone won't be a Mz

I suppose I'm lucky to own a HK MX then. Honestly, they make the best phone that I've handled aside from an iPhone (don't get me wrong, I'm just referring to the build quality.) Thanks for the tool!
We need a kernel dev if your up for it as well. Custom recovery would be a lifesaver for this phone. I'll credit you in the thread as well!
How about this:
1/ Extract the contents of an stock recovery_uboot.img
you obtain a recovery-uboot.img-kernel.zImage and recovery-uboot.img-ramdisk.cpio.gz
2/ Flash recovery-uboot.img-kernel.zImage where kernel ("zImage" in update) for normal boot goes
/dev/block/mmcblk0p63/ Flash [(64-byte header)+recovery-uboot.img-ramdisk.cpio.gz] where ramdisk ("ramdisk-uboot.img" in update) for normal boot goes
/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
and try to boot normally. Do you think the recovery that's normally invoked via VolUp+Power would show up?
EDIT: I posted instructions for dismembering such an image @ http://www.meizume.com/showthread.php?p=158029

I think 720p based firmware, however you can set output to 1080p with no problem, but I guess screen resolution remains 1280*800 or so.
Other things are well better than original firmware, faster internet and smooth 1080p mkv playing, at least I haven't seen any problem.
This is only rootet firmware for CS968 at moment, I think?
I've uploaded Antutu results on first post.
Any plans on working on a 1080 kernal?
This is great! Any plans for the 5mp camera? Or does anyone know where one is available besides the one CloudNetGo posted last month?

I didn't said this is the first custom rom, I said :
"This is only rooted firmware for CS968 at moment, I think?"
Because there wasn't any information on the rom page about root and I also seen myself after flashing the rom wasn't rooted, atleast it isn't worked for me.
I hope you understand this time.
And for the record:
This is a soft-modded rom, none of system files except superuser (su, supersu.apk, busybox) and buildprob has been touched, because of that the other modification or remake or re-edit is different than this rom.
For your consideration.

Actually it is very hard to answer that question.
I think, Frame dropping is a problem that happens while optimisation between GPU and CPU.
Meaning of optimisation is about decoding:
For our android devices there are a few custom HW decoders on the market (MX, Vitamio etc) and not all of them have been wroten for each SOC, and each manufacturer has sometimes different ways to decode multi media data.
I mean, Hardware based video decoding needs more optimisation for the synchronisation between CPU and GPU, also needs well compatible drivers too.
Because for arm based devices, HW decoding needs CPU manipulation, thus drivers, drivers, drivers...
For our rk3xxx based devices there is no fully optimised drivers for MALI-GPU, they provide what just ARM provides self.
So, we can simply see that difference while playin any HD or FullHD video on Exynos 4412 chipset based device.
Both devices have same GPU (MALI400-MP4) but Exynos performs much better.
And for the link which you sent me as pm.
I guess tweaking or modifying kernel drivers wont help as much as you expected, itsn't that simple.
Actually your chance lies on luck, kind of gambling.
But I don't know, it seems more testing is necessary.
RockChip must provide good drivers for the manufacturers, re-engineering or re-mastering may help somehow but not at all.
But may be skilled linux devs can improve drivers.
For me, arround 16 gb 1080P movie plays like charm, ofcourse there is frame dropping but not disturbing at all.
And LCD clock last thing you have to worry about.
May be I could be mistaken and know wrong, If someone explains better then we both know better.

Added 1080p support for firmware of November, Antutu performance decreases a bit, however MediaPlayback smoother and device runs faster.
I think the new kernel focuses mostly 2D performance and VPU.
But both firmwares will be available for downloading as apart (First post).

Would you try these steps?
Uninstall/Remove your own XBMC first.
Download XBMC linked app from this link
Copy this file to an USB drive or direct to your device, where ever you want, just remember where it is.
Go to your TVBox, open RootBrowser and forward to place to where you put xbmc.nm
Copy xbmc.nm file to :
../sytem/app
DO NOT RENAME OR CHANGE EXTENSION TO ANYTHING, LET IT SO REMAIN.
Reboot your device...
Ty for your input mate. I will get back to you later today, as i am at office at the moment.

So theres not ANY other custom rom for ariel? Im not sure how roms work, but is there a way to get stock android? It would probably need to be ported, but there should be other custom roms out there, since the cyanogenmod rom has a lot of issues, like not being able to use the cameras or netflix.
Most stable firmware
Anyone please suggest most stable firmware for amazon fire tab 7 .

The band 12 enable and OTA disable methods here don't work. OTA enables itself again at boot and band 12 setting also resets itself at boot.

There is already one in the Rootjunky downloads folder on their site but thanks anyway. Also that section is intended for firmwares that are to be flash in stock recovery.

Well it is hosted on a weird website, but this is the direct link that the phone OTA software (fota, which is known to be terrible) use (captured with Wireshark). It can easily be verified.
It seems the real manufacturer of the phone is "tinno" http://www.tinno.com/En/Profile/Index.html and lot of the internal apps / update files use mirrors on http://www.jstinno.com too.

Also does anybody happen to have/know where the OTA files for the non-prime version are?

I don't but I would love to see it to be able to compare both versions.
Do we know if someone tried to restore a non-prime nand backup over a prime version?

Anxiously waiting.... this will be my first Android ROM replacement.
Updated the original ad removal post with TWRP install files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67892852&postcount=567 link on the index still valid.
This updated method remove the need of wiping the data and will remove all ads, even the one currently displayed on the lock screen.
Root or exposed are not required (only TWRP obviously) so it won't affect the device security.
I created 2 scripts, one to clean everything, the other one leave the Underground app store in the system.
If you use it a lot, it's nice as it will update the apps automatically without the need of allowing unknown sources.
OTA are disabled by renaming the updater. Safer than the previous method (pm disable and pm hide), and safer than deleting if we need it later.
