Switching firmware for SM-G975U (need advice) - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hi guys, need some advice on S10+.
I'm from an Asia country and last year I bought a new S10+ from a online seller which does grey imports for mobile phones, because I want a Snapdragon version over the Exynos, which is what most Asia countries get.
The Model number (SM-975U) and Baseband version (G975USQS3CTB6) are indicating this is a US variant but I can't tell which carrier it is because there is no carrier logo on the phone or when I turn on the phone, no bloatwares as well.
The only down side is this Baseband/carrier does not have updates since March 2020. I tried checking for updates but got nothing.
What I try to get:
1. Latest original firmware which will continue to update itself (hopefully)
2. No carrier bloatware
3. No need root or custom roms (Doesnt go well with banking apps)
I have experience rooting and flashing custom firmware on my previous Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, but I can't remember if I have done unlocking bootloader before, lol.
Need advice on:
1. Which firmware should I choose?
2. I remember XDA forums used to have useful Guide under Sticky Threads but now I don't see it. I hope this guide will be able to help me with what I am trying to do.
3. I probably sound stupid here, is there any flashable settings file that is friendly to Asian region/telco? I am noticing a bit of network weakness on my phone, I hope its just me.
Thanks to anyone who reads this.

You've aquired the US Unlocked Snapdragon variant, it's not associated with any US carrier and it's not bootloader unlocked. Flashing updated FW is likely your best bet, it's available here.

The only other option for an update is Samsung's SmartSwitch. Whether or not it's compatible depends on your local service provider.

I believe since you're flashing official firmware, it won't be tripped. I bought an S6 from Germany and flashed with 3 UK firmware and can confirm my KNOX counter hasn't tripped.

I've skimmed through the tutorial video and it doesn't seem to have tripped Knox.
I'm looking to switch my s6 from TEL (Telstra AU) to XSA (Open AU).
Has anyone else tried to do this?
Cheers
will this work with an att s6

Can't find firmware for US
I'm on a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 right now. I want to follow your tutorial, even if I am in the US should I use the UK firmware model you used in the video? Is there a special international unlocked firmware for the US version (like there is one for Spain, for UK, etc).
Also, if the UK model will work on my T-Mobile phone in the US, will I suffer battery hits because the phone will be looking for UK bands or will it recognize that I'm in the US and will only look for the US bands? Thanks!!

It would look for bands based on the SIM I believe, but whether you can flash another region ROM is questionable. I thought there was something to prevent that, but I'm new to Samsung. I'm also curious if this will work. If it does, I'll just purchase an AT&T version as opposed to an unlocked one and then use this process.

Well the BTU model has always meant internationally unlocked in terms of Samsung devices, so hopefully this will work. I'm trying to flash it on my T-Mobile device and then rooting it. Does anybody have any idea how to change the model number of the phone to BTU as well so I can get OTA updates?
@madscientistdam
Looks like there is another BTU build added to the sammobile site wonder if anyone will receive a ota?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G920F/BTU/
Received an ota this morning guys, and it was the new build I posted above this post.
Just did this to my Vodafone AU S6 and it worked a treat. Also got an OTA update after a couple of reboots. Knox is still intact. Should work for other Aussie telco phones. Fixed my random freeze's and reboots that where happening flat out at one stage.
*Update- still getting random lockups, even after setting up as a new phone (using no backup). Flash went fine though...
Question. Would this be good for an Ireland Three carrier S6?
Cheers!
Debrand an American S6 Edge (Verizon) for use in Germany
Hi!
You write in your video tutorial that you don’t suggest it for American smartphones. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge from America (Verizon branded, firmware: G925VVRU4BOG9) and want to use it in Germany. So far, I have some annoying limitations (I can’t send text messages and I can’t roam). Do you – or anyone else reading this – have a hint or even a little tutorial for me? I’m so annoyed as neither Samsung nor Verizon or my German SIM card provider FONIC offers me support. The phone was a present from an American friend. So I’m not the original customer. I guess that’s one reason they don’t help. Whatever: I’ll appreciate your help! Thanks…

And a hard brick is exactly what I don’t want to risk…
this I assume only works on the International 920F version of these phone, you can flash most any region on these (hence international is your first clue), this does not however work on the (American Carrier) branded phones like Sprint, ATT, Verizon, US Cellular ect ect , these are I am told firmware specific, I tried flashing T-Mobile firmware on a sprint phone and brick city, I mean even sprint could not get it back up flashing sprint firmware with their jig... so beware. U.S. Based Carriers got you under their thumb.

G950U Version for all carriers in United States

Hello, I would like to know if I can flash my verizon galaxy s8 with tmobile software, or any other model, since I can see that this year all the carriers are using the same model G950U. That is, a single model with different carriers, very similar to how the international version G950F works which is the same model for all carriers in Europe and allows you to change the software through ODIN. I hope someone can help me. Thank you very much.

From what I've gathered is that there's a user data partition that dictates the carrier and Odin currently doesn't allow flashing of this.
Saw this as a comment somewhere here and best I've seen so far.
Personally I think it is just a matter of time before we figure this phone out and will be able to do whatever we want. They already have root for Exynos model and I think now the search is on for modified Odin, as Tehpirate said. I believe they had modified Odin for S7, to do similar stuff, so it's not like starting from scratch.
I hope is the same like the s7 U firmware... That's nice cause I can flash U firmware and get rid of the carrier bloatware.

International Firmware

Before I start, this is the first android phone I've ever owned so the question may or may not be stupid.
So I live in India and I saw the trade-in deal for the S8. I was in need of an upgrade (iPhone 6) so I went for it as I was heading to the U.S soon. I heard that the international version gets updates sooner than the unlocked U.S version. Can I just change my firmware to international, get earlier updates with no drawback? If yes then why have I not seen a lot on this?
Pretty sure the firmware is locked to the device unless you root. I had an unlocked international S6(920?F) . It updated a lot earlier than the W released in Canada.

If the device you get is G950F (international) then updates will come sooner. If you get any other version they are for specific regions, so if you get G950U (US unlocked) you can't flash international firmware to it. Can only flash firmware for the model you get.

Then what are the benefits of people switching carriers for example? There seem to be a bunch of threads giving a tutorial on how to change firmware to different carries e.g. From a T Mobile to Unlocked.

For stuff like WiFi calling, voLTE, removal of bloat some csc tweaks
Guess that's unfortunate.

Obtaining ATT Specific Functions On An Unlocked Phone

Hey Everybody,
So I've come to realize that my unlocked US S10+ on AT&T didn't have VOLTE or Wifi calling as options in the communication/call settings menus. this is pretty disappointing as it seems that using the unlocked phone with Verizon you get these features, and they make a decent impact on my use of the phone.
My understanding is if I flash the ATT firmware to the phone I would get the functions, so being an amateur I followed some simple guides to SamFirm AND ODIN, and downloaded the ATT CSC firmware for my model number. However after going through the Odin process and resetting my phone it is still showing the same Software information as prior to my installation, and I do not have the features.
I saw a thread on the board stating that the ATT firmware isn't available yet, so I'm not sure if what I downloaded was actually any different than what is on my phone, and my phones "Service Provider Software Version" did already have ATT in the description, which is a bit confusing to me.
Am I correct in understanding the only way to get the features would be through a firmware flash? And would anyone know if I had flashed the right firmware, and what the original firmware CSC would be for my model if I needed to revert?
My information is:
Model Number:
SM-G975U1 (S10+ ceramic white 512GB - Unlocked US)
Service Provider SW ver.:
SOAMC_SM-G975U1_OYM_ATT_PP_0018
R38M205LY2B
ATT/ATT/XAA
Firmware file obtained from SamFirm:
SM-G975U1_1_20190225093814_9wyh9qbuyg_fac
AP file name for reference:
AP_G975U1UEU1ASBA_CL15445662_QB22243196_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta_OS9.tar
If it's anything like the S9 was, you can't just ODIN the firmware/CSC. You'll just get the bloat with none of the features you want.

I've heard this as well. If you want those features on a Samsung phone, it has to be at&t branded. I ordered an at&t phone from Samsung since I make good use of wifi calling. It works fine on my unlocked P3XL but no dice on the Samsungs.
I have the same phone and service and when I went to update my imei they told me it could not find the phone. So I was without lte/4g for a day until I gave them a imei to a s8 active. Now I have data at least

I noticed the service provider software version to be : SOAMC_SM-G975U1_OYM_ATT_PP_0033( thirty three at end),
so anyway to update the service provider version? does that come from the SIM ??
I have an unlocked S10 plus and I flashed the AT&T Firmware. I now have VoLTE and WiFi calling unlocked on my phone using AT&T. You need to make sure you flash the U version of the firmware, not the U1 one. Unlocked S10 is using the U1 firmware already so flashing that one again changes nothing.

I kinda doubt it but did any of you with unlocked phones that flashed the AT&T firmware get any better service? I've been considering it to get VOLTE but just wondered

I followed this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s10/how-to/att-ota-ota-updates-t3909697
At first like you I downloaded the wrong version and nothing changed. I finally flashed G975USQU1ASBA and now have VOLTE/WIFI Calling and of course all of the bloat. But at least those two functions are working. Make sure that you complete a clean flash when I did a dirty flash I had problems sticking on the loading screen.
I believe you just need to call in ATT to take care those carrier specific features .
Which firmware can I flash with Odin to my S10+ Xfinity Mobile unlocked to get AT&T OTA updates? Currently have ASF7 flashed from the latest unknown firmware uploaded to Sammobile. I flashed w/o USERDATA. I just want to be able to get future OTA updates as I just switched my carrier from Metro by T-Mobile to AT&T. I was using U1 US unlocked firmwares on my Note9 & S10+ but want to use carrier perks now with AT&T.
What's with AT&T being the only ones to not release update files? You would think they all would be required to release them. More AT&T customers need kick up a fuss about it.

You can download the latest at updato.com or sammobile.com and flash using the latest odin tool
Here u can find and download manually android pie for your model
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/
But u can also use updato.com for faster download speed.
Be sure to use latest Odin 3.13.3
Edit: it seems @TheMadScientist was a bit faster then me
Would I still be able to have the unlocked version of the s8 or will flashing the update lock it to a specific sim career?

Depends if you download the U1 bit 5 firmware or the U firmware These devices are hardly locked to any carrier if it is sim unlocked Switching is so easy now

Yes you can flash another. That's boost Mobile a cdma sprint subsidiary
If your carrier is a gsm it won't work more than likely but as long as you stay bit 5 you can flash any of them
Ohh I see I didn't know it was cdma, uk uses gsm only so a tmobile firmware would make more sense such as this one https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/TMB/download/G950USQU5DSD3/272406/
