Clarification question regarding rebranding a tmo 6t. - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I've had my 6t for a while now. When I got it I followed this guide, https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-flash-twrp-root-nandroid-efs-backup.3851789/ , and all was good until I tried to update. Everything continued to work but it broke root. ( I later learned I shouldn't have tried to run the OTA.)
Anyway. I'd like to get rid of the T-MO branded ROM. I just need some clarification. I'm on 10.3.4 currently. SIM and bootloader are unlocked. TWRP 3.4.0.0 is installed. So that being said do I have to follow the MSMDownload guide and convert to international, then go about updating to current, or can I just grab the most recent oxygen or lineage release and flash that ( preferably OxygenOS)? I assume that since my bootloader is already unlocked I can just flash from TWRP, but I've seen conflicting comments. From what I can tell I have flash everything to both slots, is that correct? Do I need to upgrade TWRP? Finally re-flash Magisk for root.
My end goal is just a non T-MO branded OxygenOS that I can update. From what I've seen I can do local upgrade once running OxygenOS. Is there a specific process for upgrading oxygenos once its running. I've seen you have to remove Magisk modules etc before running it.
Thanks!

You pretty much got everything down as you said. Convert, Update to current, and you are golden. If you want to try LOS then that is in a completely different ballpark.

@j1tters Here's how I converted my T-Mobile 6t to global. Hope this helps.
T-Mobile 6T to International Conversion (WITHOUT unlocked bootloader/SIM unlock!)
In the previous thread, we discussed a method to convert T-Mobile 6T's to the international variant, sort of, but it required an unlocked bootloader, which itself requires a SIM unlock which T-Mobile gives people a hard time about. However, it...

Thanks, that post was helpful. Was smooth sailing until trying to get it to boot into twrp via fastboot. Reboots and just sits at the fastboot screen. Not sure if there is an issue with twrp-3.4.0-11 for fajita. Tried 3.4.0.0 also. Same issue.
Going to try updating with Oxygen Updater then see if its happier with twrp..
Is there a specific version of TWRP I need to get it to boot?

Got twrp taken care of but I'm a bit confused by magjisk v22. Looks like flashing from recovery isnt the preferred way anymore?

Rename the magisk22.apk to magisk.22.zip and yes it can then be flashed in twrp.

This is the only one that I know of that will root the Nougat version of the S7 Edge. It is a very long thread, and there is a lot of information that can help. I know it works as I tried it on my G935U at one time.

Excellent! I wanted some confirmation from someone with the same phone (unlocked AT&T on N.)
Have you remained rooted since? I'm hearing mixed reports about performance and things stop working.) My primary concern though is our locked bootloaders. If we make changes that cause problems can we undo it? Like flashing the stock firmware? Thanks

Yes, I have remained rooted, but I ended up going back to stock G935A and then rooting again with that procedure. Personally, I was not getting the performance I was used to with the G935U as I was with the G935A with the root procedure.
Yes, there are some things that do not work with these eng.imgs that are being used to root the phones. There is NO Xposed for this one, Samsung Pay does not work, but I have been using Android Pay and it works just fine. As for the Bootloader, it is still LOCKED. There has not been any Unlocked bootloaders for the G935 or G930 so far and I don't think we will see it anytime soon.
As for Undoing, yes. There is a very simple way to go back to stock with Odin. In fact, about once a month, I return to stock just so I can get the latest security patch and then re-root my phone back to this way. I know it is somewhat of a pain, but with Titanium Back up I can get my phone back to running normally in a couple of hours.
Hope this helps...
It's not quite as fast, but if you are backing up and restoring to the same device, you can just use ADB. I still have a TiBu license, and use it on my Tab S2, but I have largely adapted to not having root on my S7 by taking advantage of basic ADB features.

Great info. Thanks!
One followup--when you say Xposed doesn't work, do you mean you tried the newest Nougat version that just got released? Or it never worked, not even on M?

What I meant was Xposed doesn't work on the current version of root using the eng.img. I have not tried using the NEW Xposed that is in THIS thread. I have looked at it but have not had a chance to run the zipped file and installing it. I know it works with MM as I had it working GREAT with MM and the eng.img with that version. I love Xposed and wish that was available for Nougat and N's root. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fully implemented soon.

I tried this 4 times and failed. The problem is it just keeps rebooting (about every 45 to 60 seconds) after I flash the eng boot img. Im never able to run adb commands. If I start from a clean slate I can't even make it past the setup screens to enable debugging.
I'm reaching out to you because you succeeded with the same model SM-G935U
So I'm just seeing if you have any insights. My phone should be the same as yours. Only difference is mine came with 7.0 preinstalled. Maybe an earlier firmware? But that doesn't make sense because people are, to my understanding, using the eng boot with recent firmware.
I'll repost in the root thread if I need to but thought I'd see if you have anything to offer. Thanks

I seem to remember the constant rebooting on the U-Firmware also. I too kept trying and it finally took. I think I would take the OTA from the server and try to install the eng.img with Odin. When you do this, does Odin give you any errors? Or does it succeed at the installation?
It has been a few months since I rooted the U-Firmware so not for sure what fixed the rooting process. Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Thanks. No Odin works perfectly whether I flash eng boot or stock.
I looked at the root guide for Sprint and the process is a lot more involved. I believe he boots to recovery twice and wipes cache plus factory reset twice. He also stresses to get the root.bat run quickly to avoid bootloop.
Might be worth a shot but the process of running Odin, getting back to stock and restoring all my data winds up being close to a few hours so It'd be very helpful to find someone with the same issue as me who was able to resolve it.

Flashing OOS on Chinese OP6T (A6010) that comes with H2OS

I am getting a Chinese OP6T that comes with H2OS in 2 weeks time. Any easy way (guide) to flash stock OOS to this Chinese phone A6010? Thanks in advance.
just unlock the bootloader and sideload the oos.zip (full) in stock recovery then flash it from there. you could also do fastboot method. works on my oneplus device since the 3/3T days.

Have you done it for oneplus 6T yourself? I was wondering whether the A/B partitions in OP6T will have a different approach to flash...
Thank you.
according to my friend chinese oneplus 6
you only need a full flash zip of oos and just local update from updater in the phone
no need to unlock bootloader
PS. and no need to factory reset too, but i still recommend to reset it
I am from China, and use Chinese OP6T (A6010) that comes with H2OS
just like fangchunxi1999 says, put full OOS zip on 6t sdcard, local update from updater in the phone setting
after finish, do a factory reset, OOS now!

Interestingly enough I just bought a 6t in China and I have been thinking about this.
- Question for you. Will you still be in China? If not, or you are planning a vacation somewhere, OnePlus support will actually help you flash OOS on your device. This only works outside of China though (even if you have a VPN).
- For others: what is the big difference between H2OS and OOS? I considered flashing, but I have a trip outside of China in a week so I was thinking I can just wait until then and let OnePlus do the flash for me. For now though, I have installed all the apps I want including Google apps and a VPN. Is there any real reason I would want to flash to OOS instead of just leaving it as H2OS? Thanks for any answers.

Just got Device is corrupted, dont know how to restore it back. Someone said I could use MMSDownloadTool but there was not a version for HydrogenOS. I wonder I could use this from International MMSDownloadTool but I'm so afraid I would brick my Chinese variant device.
Well here's a question. If I wanted to flash h2os onto my international unlocked op6t could I do the same method just reversed?

In all honesty, you can either:
Unlock the bootloader back and just use the device as is or sideload the OOS.zip or you can try the global tool and hope for the best, since unless you unlock, the device is unusable anyways, if someone can get the Chinese variants tool it would be a Chinese user, others can’t request it..you’re better off contacting OP via chat and push for an OS reflash until they oblige and make an appointment with a tech to remote flash for you.

Flash GSI Roms on Razer Phone 2!

While looking around and trying to compile TWRP and getting errors doing so, I have finall come accross a solution as to how to get GSI roms to boot, it seems we needed special flash instructions and im eve gonna test some other things later. But without further do, here are the instructions!
Step 1: Go here and read instructions CAREFULLY! "https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/"
Step 2: We need special flash instructions so flash this command. "fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img" (Special flashing instructions here https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...18&postcount=2)
Step 3: if it doesnt work, try again. I am currently booting into Phh-Treble.
Step 4: Rejoice as we can now get away from stock!
Credits where credit is due !
UPDATE: Okay so, pretty sure dm-verify is making it so it doesnt fully boot :/ still working on it.

what you want to do is downlaod the stock rom, unzup it to desktop. copy your boot.img to your phone. download magisk manager from the xda thread. install the manager and then patch the boot.img. reboot the phone and you'll see it in your downlads. copy that to your stock rom folder (you'll need adb and fastboot files). run the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and youre rooted. but at this current time root is kinda pointless.
also... be sure to check out the root guide first. forgot you need to unlock bootloader and critical.

Yup! Just be sure the unlock bootloader. Reason why I waited a while, was ATT usually doesn't like bootloaders to be unlocked, so they'll lock that down. Not the case with this phone.
So I unlocked the bootloader, which factory reset the phone. Then flashed the global firmware for Oreo. But you'll be lucky, you can flash the latest pie firmware from the start. I had to flash the Oreo global, then update from within settings to get pie.
Good luck.

Yes and no. If you don't root, you'll get ota's no problem. Rooted, you will still see the update, but there is a more involved process to update.
Once you're on global firmware, consider yourself an unlocked variant of the phone. Forget ATT.

Just got my 6T today and it updated, but since this is the T-Mobile variant, it is still on Android 9. OOS version is 9.0.16. I want to flash a custom Android 10 ROM but cannot figure out where to go from here.

I don't think so. But I DID just convert to the International ROM using this procedure.

Then just follow this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-sim-bootloader-unlock-root-t3921795
This will show you what you need to do to unlock the bootloader and also the sim if you haven't unlocked that.
from 9.011 you can upgrade to 9.0.17 and then 10.0.3
I actually did all that a few days ago, but I'm now having connection issues. The mobile signal drops quite often and when it reconnects it's never on LTE, it's always H+ or E. It stays like that until I reboot.
