Redmi 7A bricked after MIUI 12 OTA update - Redmi 7A Questions & Answers

Hi, my phone received the MIUI 12 update but now it's bricked because the installation stops after reaching 23.99%.
The bootloader is locked, so fastboot flash doesn't work. EDL mode also doesn't work because my Mi account isn't authorized.
Anyone with the same problem? How can I recover my phone?
Thanks.

First reboot your phone to stock recovery then there was an option to connect to Mi PC. The phone will be detected in adb mode then use mi unlocker to unlock the bootloader then you can flash your desired rom using MiFlash Tool

Thanks for you answer. I can't go to stock recovery, it goes directly to the update screen. I boot to the fastboot mode and the phone is detected by the Mi Unlock Tool but it doesn't work. It says I should login with a Xiaomi account on the phone and do some steps, but the phone is bricked.

any updates I ahve same problem

I left it to update this morning and it just destroyed my phone completely destroyed it
I somehow got it to work using adb fastboot continue
then i did hard reset and it stuck on it too

[Q] "The Smooth Thunder" Push fails

Evening fellas. Attempted to flash leoposas's Smooth thunder tonight, but ran into issues with the push step.
Trying to flash the boot and system img's fails, so I'm assuming push the zip via ADB.
Is this through Fastboot or -Download Mode-? Either way it's failing. In Fastboot No device is found when browsing adb. In Download Mode I've got undefined devices...that can be fixed if needs be...otherwise I won't worry about it.
wait...am I supposed to push while still in Recovery mode with the SDcard mounted?? Might make sense.
Thanks.

first, you can't "push" system.img and boot.img , you need to FLASH them in "fastboot" mode..
(adb will never show ur phone if it is in fastboot mode..)
(in fastboot mode..to detect phone enter : "fastboot devices"
not "adb devices"
to flash system.img and boot.img :
Code:
fastboot -w
fastboot flash boot.img
fastboot flash system.img
fastboot reboot
or, if you've got update.zip (romname.zip) then it can be flashed thru recovery , just copy rom to sdcard and then flash from recovery.
hope it helps out. if not .. use this tool : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709619
Thanks Hani93. Trying to flash the boot and system img's failed. I'm currently using Miro's AOSP rom flashed via fastboot it's working pretty well with very few issues, cept I don't like the uber-short battery life with WiFi on. With out WiFi lasts forever and a day.
I'm guessing my issue stems from rebooting out of Recovery mode back into Fastboot when the instructions didn't say so. Once the zip is moved to sd card, apply updates from zip and should be good to go.
prob didn't help that when I let AIO toolkiit reboot my phone into ADB it was really still booting into fastboot, but since I didn't know enough about the differences I didn't know the two were not the same. Got that little issue resolved though.

you should try to flash new mbn file (choose your size , what u want)(named as "resize system partition" in aio toolkit)
and then flash new clockworkmod recovery, and try again.
Ok, got things straightened out and Zoe Rom installed...let the testing begin.

[HARD BRICK] Moto G4 hardbricked after flashing TWRP

Hey guys,
i've a massive problem with my G4. Today i flashed TWRP on the device, after i was unlocking the bootloader. After booting up into TWRP, and installing SuperSU, I just restarted it. Now it's dead. Seriously, it's dead.
I can't start it at all. If I plug in a USB-Cable, i just see the LED Light. I've Windows, and at my Device Manager, the G4 is recognized as QHSUSB_BULK.
I saw a Thread for the Moto G (1th), and i'm pretty sure, that i can't to this like in this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/how-to-revive-hard-bricked-moto-g-t2833798
Is there any option, what i can do?
@Marwycy are you able to boot into bootloader and TWRP..?
Keep volume and power key pressed for about 2 minutes,
And then if you made any backup restore it, otherwise flash stock...

At first i wasn't but, i found a thread with a solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/help-xt1642-hard-bricked-help-t3498943
Now i can boot into the Bootloader, i deleted TWRP with fastboot, to flash the stock firmware from the motorola support site.
But its not working yet.
After "fastboot flash -S 1900M system system.img" I just get the error: "cannot load system.img". If I just use "fastboot flash -S 1800 system system.img", fastboot is going to flash, but stopped with the error:"(bootloader) data size exceeds download buffer. The last error seems to be logical, the file is bigger than 1800MB..
I'll try to flash each files which are in the image.

And i figured out, that it's not necessary. All I had to do ist following the official way by just using "fastboot system system.img" , with the Image from the officla Motorola website. My first file was corrupt, that was the problem.
Now my phone is working again
Thanks for help.

Okay -
1)Firstly, what were you doing when you rebooted - were you installing an update? If so, do you remember what the update was (what number did it end in, for example)?
2)Have you tried holding the power button for 2 minutes? This may force a hard reboot and could break your device out of the state it's in.
3)When you plug your device into your computer, what is the device name that comes up (e.g. is it Moto G4 Plus in Device Manager>Portable Devices or Qualcomm HSUSB 9008 or similar)?
4)What error message did you get?
5)Is your device with an unlocked bootloader or locked bootloader?

Okay, point 3 indicates that you perhaps need to try resetting your phone with a blankflash: you may wish to have a look at this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71405834&postcount=23 Please read all the steps fully before proceeding if you choose to follow that post. I recall you've posted in the hard brick thread too, which has similar instructions, perhaps this may work.
I do not know if this will work, but it's worth a try.

[GUIDE] How to unbrick your Mate 9 if you can access only fastboot

Hello everyone,
Today, while trying to update my phone to Oreo, I have bricked it, so here is the way to unbrick it, and reflash the software.
We'll use the files found here link
Download base, windows, and MHA (or your phone model) zip files, then unzip it to a folder. Be sure, that there are no spaces in the directory name.
Download firmware files, use Firmware Finder, or anything you chose, the only important thing is you have to have 3 zip files. If ready, place it to the HWOTA/update folder. Rename the files to update.zip,
update_data_public.zip, and update_all_hw.zip.
Run update.bat, and follow the instructions on screen
When it asks the update method, chose update from script folder. It will copy the files, flash the recovery, then start system update.
You should be good to go
Thanks for @mankindtw for the software.

I don't think he has a solution ... I also bricked my phone on kind of downgrade and reactivated my Nexus 6 and bought a camera replacement for my dear Nexus for ~10 Euro on eBay.
Sad that this great device (Mate9) is so hard to pull back into live. Compared to a good old Nexus' it's dangerous to play around.
RIP my mate 9 (locked bootloader also). bricked by android pie update.

if you want to downgrade the phone, I'll recommend you to unlock fastboot (fastboot oem unlock-go) then execute fastboot oem edl and execute xiaomi_a1_blok_silme_EDL after a minute, if the program stuck in around 3 minutes, force shutdown and restart fastboot again, then execute fastboot oem edl and open MiFlash and select tissot version 7.8 and flash it, when it finish it start cleanly, download the QPST in diag mode and restart then you'll have IMEI again and baseband but be carefull because if you update to oreo everything fail and you'll have bootloop.
PD. I bought a new Mi A1 and backup all the partitions and overwrite it in my old Mi A1, I found something interesting the IMEI isnt in modem_a, modem_b, modemst1, modemst2 and fsc, I compare the partitions of the new phone and the old one and are equals but It still appear IMEI unknown and baseband unknown, I downloaded the QPST and compare the partitions and it still equals so, the IMEI isnt in that partitions if you have bootloop boot TWRP and clean modemst1 and modemst2 (dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst1) restart and the phone starts again but without IMEI, that is strange.
PD. I have a copy of persist partition, change the .sn and put your serial number, edit wlan_mac.bin and put another MAC (minor dan FF) and to change the BT MAC go to persist/bluetooth/.bt_nv.bin and change the MAC (the mac is in backwards, the end to begin)

I checked, with the new android update it is not possible for 2018 models.
Don't think the 2018 J7 is even exploitable/rootable yet. (waiting for it though)
interesting of this device has treble support
hello I used firmware combination J737T1UVU4ASB1 for j737t1, flash with miracle box and I see that I think OEM Unlock to enable it, I have not yet enabled.
now that it has combination I am thinking of converting j737t1 to j737u with OEM enabled I hope it works.
here is the capture: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/msm2fczpgcxgu/
Could I get you to please host J737T1UVU4ASB1 out there somewhere? I can't find that one anywhere.
You have to flash the combination file and then enable OEM and then flash the unbranded rom and then factory reset in that order

Did this work? Is it possible to root SM_J737T1?
Over a year later...any feedback from anyone?? Does this work or any other options to root the T1 variant?
I rooted my j737u by using a combo file to get OEM unlock, reflashed firmware, installed magisk, patched boot img I got from AP firmware, then used a tool called tar-tool to convert boot img back to tar.md5, then placed the boot.tar.md5 file in AP section of patched odin and it flashed just fine. Makes you factory reset but magisk is there when rebooted.
r1pp3d2 said:

Hello, can you be more specific with the steps, the combination of roms is interesting
find your bootloader version combination file and put it in the AP slot in odin and flash it.
it should say factory binary when it boots up. go to settings and enable dev options and the OEM unlock should be able to be turned on. after turning OEM unlock on should turn OEM lock off.
after that you need to reflash your firmware in odin.
put magisk on the phone and I pulled the boot.img from the AP firmware with 7zip. use magisk to patch the boot.img. i found a tool on xda called tar-tool, which I used to put the patched boot.img into tar.md5 then flashed that boot.img in the AP slot of odin. you will have to factory reset after that flash, but magisk will be there when you're done setting your phone up. oh, and I used patched odin to do all the flashing. i hope this helps!
With this code that you enable, they gave it to me and they say that it solves that, activate debugging, put this code and that's it *#0808#
