Several options:
Restore the backup you have made before debloating
Flash a complete stock firmware and either do not debloat, or remove system apps more carefully (e.g. one by one and check that everything that you need still works).
Try to identify the needed but missing system apps/files and search for those, and manually install missing apps again.

Titanium Backup- doesn't sync settings

Hi,
I have a problem with TB.
I setup custom labels in the app and clicked on the Sync TB settings box in preferences. But when I wipe and flash a new rom and reinstall the app, my labels do not return.
Another issue I have is when I try to create an update.zip file. I go to flash it and it doesn't install. I've tried both signed and unsigned and it's the same result.
Anybody got any ideas?
1 labels for what? and are you backing up the correct thing to back them all up?
update.zip has always been flaky for me as well. when are you flashing it? ive noticed it doesnt work after flashing rom but after rebooting doin a few things in the rom (im sure you could just boot back to recovery after sign in) and flashing its there annnd thats on aosp roms i have had less sucess on sense roms

from TB you can create custom labels and then associate an app to them. Since the labels are created in TB, it is part of the settings. With the sync settings option selected, TB should be saving the settings to the SD card.
Theoretically, I should be able to wipe the phone and then re-install TB which is theoretically suppose to sync the previous settings and the custom labels should come back.
then when in filters the label is selected and you hit apply, all of those apps that were associated with the label should appear.
This makes restoring apps from a fresh ROM much easier than rifling through old back-ups.
Thanks for the heads up on the update.zip.
bump. with question
Does anybody have a suggestion on how to do the above easier?
How do you guys and/or gals flash new roms and get your most used apps up and running quickly?
Flash rom, download titanium, batch restore. Takes about 30-60 minutes depending on how many apps I restore.

Solved :
Figured out what happened. The ROM I flashed had TiBu installed and didn't sync previous settings.
I uninstalled TiBu and reinstalled it. And it works.

[Guide] Making and Restoring a Backup of your Rom/Apps.

After noticing that many members fear to change roms because they will lose their data i decided to make a guide about back up.
Backing up is a very important thing that will save you from so much trouble especially when you want to switch between roms. To make a long story sort it is a very useful tool for us xdacians
I will cover two factors. Firstly, back up of your entire rom with cwm recovery and second, back up of your apps.
Lets’s start with the rom back up.
Requirements
1. A rooted device.
2. Cwm recovery.
We will make a Nandroid back up. The great thing about a Nandroid backup is that it saves everything about the system on your device. That includes your system data and more importantly, user data. All the apps you have installed, the user data individually saved by these applications, your phone contacts, the accounts tied to the device - every detail will be retained.
A point to note here is that your SD Card data is not backed up. The Nandroid backup itself is created on your SD card. Make sure you have sufficient space.
Instructions
1. Reboot to cwm.
2. Select “back up and restore”.
3. Select “back up”.
4. Wait patiently until its finished.
5. Congrats you have successfully back up your rom.
6. For more safety you can transfer it to your computer. You can find the folder at sd card/clockworkmod/backup.
Now you can flash a different rom. If you don’t like it and you want to go back to your backed up rom here is how.
Instructions
1. Reboot to recovery.
2. Select “back up and restore”.
3. Select “restore”. (You can choose “advanced restore” then choose the back up for more options, I think the options are pretty self explained…)
4. Select your back up, it will have a name based on the date you made it.
5. Wait patiently until its finished.
6. Congrats you have successfully restored a back up.If you have bootloop after restoring a back up see post #2.
Ok, that was useful for when you install a rom and then you decide that the previous was better so you want to switch back but what if you want to keep the new one?
Don’t worry you can restore your apps there too, there is no need to install them all from the start.
Titanium backup is the solution.
Lets proceed with the back up of your apps.
Requirements
1. A rooted device.
2. Titanium backup.
This is a very helpful tool to back up your apps and the user data(game’s progress for example), which make the difference from just installing your desired apps from the start.
A quick way to make back ups with this app is the following.
Instructions
1. Open the app with root rights.
2. Hit the tab on the screen which tells “Backup/Restore”.
3. Now you see all your apps, including your system apps.
4. Tap on one and a window will pop out, hit the “backup!” , as you can see there are other useful options as well.
5. You can do this for every app you want to back up but it is time consuming, don’t worry if you have a large list of apps, hit the menu button of your phone, now select “batch”.
6. You see many options. For a full back up of your app run the option “Backup all user apps”.
7. Done! For a more detailed look on the app see this from the developer’s site.
So, now you have flash a new rom and you want your apps.
Instructions
1. Install titanium backup.
2. Open it.
3. Scrolling down the list of the “Backup/Restore” tab you can see all your back ups. You can either click on one and hit “restore” then ”App+Data” or you can go to “batch”, “Restore missing apps and data”.
4. Done! For the system apps its better to restore data only.
Note that titanium backup is the app I prefer, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other.
That’s it, you now have your apps from your previous roms. Enjoy your new rom.
Don’t forget to make backup often.
If you can’t restore a full Nandroid back up (and this happens many times) then here is a simple trick I do for it.
Instructions
1. Install the rom that is the same with your back up. (For example if you want to restore a gingerdx back up and you have bootloop when you restore the full back up, install the clean rom(gingerdx) as you installed it the first time and keep reading…)
2. Reboot to cwm.
3. (Optional) Full wipe. (Including factory reset and wipe dalvik cache)
4. “back up and restore”.
5. “Advanced Restore”.
6. Select the back up you want to restore.
7. Now hit “Restore data”, ”Restore cache”, “Restore sd-ext”
8. Do you remember how was it when you made the back up? Now it’s the same.
If you have md5 mismatch error when restoring a backup then see this thread by ihtfp69
ihtfp69 said:
I figured I would post this fix here in case anyone else ran into this problem. This is assuming you did not change the folder names and let Clockworkmod create them. I haven't had it happen until today, but it's not a nice message to see when you are trying to do a restore.
Code:
Checking MD5 sums...
MD5 mismatch!
To fix this problem use the code below. Substitute the final folder name for the backup you need to fix.
Code:
adb shell
# cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2010-06-29.20.22.53
# rm nandroid.md5
# md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
When that finishes, re-run the restore and everything should be fine.
NOTE: As rpearl stated, there could be something really wrong with your nandroid, so use this tutorial as a learning experience and not a fix-all. In my case, everything was fine after restoring. However, that may not always be the case. Do this with caution.

Hello. I had JB 4.3 on my xperia z and it was pretty good. I made a backup from recovery and flashed Kitkat, rooted again, but this kitkat is very unstable, it drains the battery too fast, can't open line, many process hang. I want to get back to 4.3, Q: making the restore from recovery would be just like before? as if i didn't flash anything? I also have the Titanium backup. Thanks.

my question is I need someone that has try this method and confirm to us that this method is SAFE.

the problem is that this custom rom is not available for download for anyone.
the custom rom is odex rom like the stock but the different is that someone translate this rom manually.
so now I made a full backup of my friend mobile using TWRP, can I make a rom using this backup ?

Ok, I see...
If it is a stock-based rom then if you are on the same version as of the base, restoring only the system would do the job... I am assuming here that the developer integrated the language to the rom. If he used some other technique you might need to restore data as well. I don't know.
Btw, it might be a good idea to get a second opinion from your device's sub-forum (open a new thread on the Q&A section). There may be specifics that I'm not aware of and I may overlook as I don't own the device.

Full debloat stock rom on I9195 ( flashable zip )

Hey there after a whole week of testing, reflashing, bricking, rebooting I decided to share with you my debloat version of Galaxy S4 Mini I9195 ( might work on all versions of galaxy mini, not sure. )
For those who want to keep stock os for some reasons, I made this post hoping I can spare people some great time.
Summary: most stock apps gone, no kies, no ota update ( if you root your phone you wont't get any anyway ) and so on. Removed main apps as I have replacements from the play store. Also removed everything search related including voice which never worked well for me. I use swype keyboard to dictate and that's all.
I attached the updater-script contents, as you may modify and keep whatever you want. I tested this script on my device and everything works fine.
Just flash it via cw recovery and if it's the first debloat I recommend wiping /data and /cache.
If you want to skip a file deletion, open the zip with any archiver, and edit the file META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script and delete the lines regarding the app/folder/lib you want to keep.
How to Unbrick
How did you unbrick your phone pls?
I had the CM and i want to come back to stock.
I have tried flashing a stock debranded DBT rom.
I had boot loop. The Samsung loge freezes.
I have tried flashing all stock roms.
No chance. I can see onlay Samsung logo...
I had this issue, wiped /data and /cache after flashing my csc ROM and worked.
Worked like charm. Serious debloating.
I flashed cwm, booted to cwm flashed the script and was done. I wiped dalvik just in case. Now seems to work fine. Didn't have to root for it.
So basically stock rom and kernel + no more crappy apps. :good:
Thank you for your work!!! Awesome!!
You're welcome like I said I spent a whole week removing/puting back until I found what CAN be removed and what CANNOT be removed safely.
When I feel like reverting to stock rom I flash stock and immediatly after odin's reboot I flash custom recovery and run the zip so I can have my /data intact.
@btnetro can I check with you if you needed to flash back your nandroid backup for reverting to stock rom?
I'm sorry I don't understand the question
What were the steps you took to revert back to stock ROM?
odin flash with appropiate csc firmware ( my case dbt ) not a very hard thing
Did you have to restore your initial CWM backup?
I never made backups since this is not my primary device and it's still in testing sort of speak.
however since this are different roms I don't think you can revert to stock rom with cyanogen /data ...
This sounds great, but if I have rooted and frozen bits of bloat can I do this over the top and expect it to work?
TIA

I'm intrested in using this script but for example Im using voice can I install some apps that you deleted back ?
and how many spce did you saved after debloating ?
instead of reinstalling you can edit the file I wrote on the 1st thread and delete the lines that match the apps you want to keep
if i install the full debloat and then i add only the apps i want, what happens with updates ?
am i going to be able to get them and if yes will all the samsung apps be re-installed ?

This is not a rom. Its a script that automaticly uninstalls all the samung bloatware apps like Samsung hub, sam connect, bookstore etc.
But to awnser your question, it would save battery a bit more since the bloatware won't be running in the sys backround any longer
Beware that debloating does not remove any bloatware system shortcuts such as some of the AllShare connectivities tabs as its implented into the samsung firmwares interface.

Can't restore apps from Titanium Backup?

Before leaving my S4 Active and moving to this S5 (G900F), I made a backup of all my apps using Titanium Backup. Everything went fine during the process; no errors whatsoever. I then rooted my phone using CF-Auto Root then flashed TWRP. Now that I'm trying to restore the apps, it says 'There is a problem parsing the package.' When I press OK, it says that it's restoring the app but in reality it's not. The screen stays like that forever until I kill the process.
Any idea why this happened and how to fix it? Thank you.

Hmm. If I remember correctly, my S4 Active was on 5.0.1 when I made the backup and my S5 is still on 5.0. Is there a workaround for this? Tried changing the android version in build.prop but it didn't work.

Not sure, I know with my tablet, we could flash Android versions > upwards and keep apps/data - but downgrading to a previous version would cause a bootloop, so we would have to wipe apps/data first
Could also be because it's from a different device altogether, not tried restoring between devices before

I've read some posts here that simply transferring the backup files to a new phone would work though. Is there any way to manually extract the data from the files and restore it?
You can use TiBu to make an 'update zip' you can then do one of two things.....
1) copy the zip to the new device and attempt to flash it from a custom recovery.
2) copy the zip to your new device and extract it.....You'll have all your apps in the extracted folder, and you *should* be able to manually 'sideload' install them.
When making the update zip, there is an option where you can select 'app only' which is probably the best option (rather than 'data only' or 'app + data'). I have a feeling that it is the backed up app data that is causing your issues....so selecting 'app + data' in tibu will land you right back where you started (if you attempt to flash the zip in custom recovery).

Well, there is that 'data only' option in TiBu, but I honestly think that it is the data that is causing your issues.....especially if it's data from a 'system' app or data from apps that downloaded 'additional files' when you ran the app for the first time.....

I have a feeling that it is the backed up app data that is causing your issues....so selecting 'app + data' in tibu will land you right back where you started (if you attempt to flash the zip in custom recovery).

Tried flashing the update.zip. After reboot, Titanium says the batch operation has finished but all the apps ('elements') had failed.
I'm guessing it's the whole previous version of Android problem I get with my tab, I mentioned originally
Try flashing a custom 5.0.1 or higher ROM, see if it accepts the restore then

Good stuff, yea it's some sort of backwards compatibility thing, you can go up a version and restore older apps, but you can't restore apps from a newer version to an older one for some reason, I guess because the newer version understands the older apps as it was upgraded from that build, but the older droid version has no idea the newer version exists and has no support for the changes

Weird though since backups I made when I was on CM 12.1 worked when I went back to the official firmware (5.0.1) on my S4 Active a few weeks ago.

Weird, no idea then lol
What version droid is CM12.1? 5.1.1 ?
Maybe it's some restriction Samsung has added to their ROMs preventing restoring from a different device
Just strange it works exactly that way with my tab too, works going up a version, but not back (Custom to Custom too)

Yup, CM12.1 is based on 5.1.1. Anyway, thanks for the help! Do you know of any other backup apps I can try using?

I just make Nandroid backups with TWRP recovery - you can use TiBu to restore them too
I've currently got this problem
Flashing from same phone, same Android version Kitkat stock.
Titanium couldnt restore app or data, it says parse error then just idles "restoring app" but nothing happens, have to reboot.
I did have a nandroid TWRP backup stored on storage card, but after restoring that, I get "your something ID is mismatched, your phone will be unstable. You must wipe /data partition" everytime booting Android and the phone did seem unstable (black icons remain in launcher even after uninstalled). After an hour with that message I decided to wipe /data and shelf off twrp backup. Now with Titanium backup it seems I'm going to have the same problem.

How can i do full backup without twrp?

I really miss the FULL backup that twrp used to have. Aka "nandroid" backup where you can backup partitions in case you add a module that screws up the phone. Is there another way to do this since there is no working twrp for the 8pro? (I'm on 11.0.2.2.IN11AA if that matters)
Thanks

No there is no functional TWRP for Android 11.
Primary reason for this is because it simply isn't needed.
There are scripts for ROMs that work just fine.
As for magisk modules then there is a simple fix for that too
Magisk module failure.
This works for any magisk module failure.
1. Power off your phone by holding the power button, then turn it back on.
2. As your phone gets to the bootloader warning screen, press and hold volume up and down and continue to hold until the phone shows the boot animation.
3. You'll boot to safe mode, simply reboot once more.
4. On next boot all your magisk modules will be disabled, remove the problematic module and re-enable the functional ones.
Unfortunately this all also means that there probably won't be any TWRP in the future as we just don't need it, it didn't hinder the developers of ROMs and we have an escape path from dodgy magisk ROMs and modules.
Xposed and kernels are slightly different but you still have a way back without restoring your OS.
So twrp is the only way to do a full backup then?

Thanks for your response... However i did find a case that the numbered steps above would not work. This was for renovate ice module. Safe mode produced system ui failure and couldn't get past it. I think it was you who helped me by resetting the system

That's correct and probably due to the fact that R-ice does a lot more to your phone and doesn't revert back the changes it makes whereas the likes of xXx does,. AFAIK R-ice affects system but xXx does not.
For anything else it should be fine.
And lol yep I remember I think.

@glhelinski
What I found with titanium is that certain apps won't restore, games for example seem to.
But if you install the app from the play store it does allow you to restore app data

I could never nail down which apps wouldn't restore... Some would some wouldn't. I have never tried just restoring data (and not the app). Thanks

Tbh I'd like to know why too, I think it's down to security on Google play, perhaps it needs to check in or something within the app itself has to hit Google play to install, probably a DRM feature.
Anything installed from the internet will restore, WhatsApp and telegram restore.
All emulators fail, games in general fail.
I'm surprised that the developers of titanium haven't kept on top of that.

Titanium backup does not work for split apks, it could be because of that, or simply due the fact that's it's just outdated.
Swift backup on the other hand handles everything fine. There is also a free open source alternative called OAndBackupX which I've heard works great as well.
Full nandroid backup should *hopefully* be possible soon though, mauronofrio is currently working on updating TWRP to 3.5.

Totally agree dude, it's a ballache wiping your whole phone every time you want to change OS
Only reason I keep TiB is because I freeze some apps. Like when I install goog's camera and messaging ( and their phone . . . maybe too ) and don't want to see oneplus stuff. So, does 'swift' bu do the freezing thing too ?
I suppose the guru members know how to freeze with adb and maybe can share their knowledge . . .

Never really looked into the freeze method visa adb, I would imagine it has a different term. After all it essentially disables apps instead of uninstalling them.
Swift does things on a different level to tib, so it can back up contacts, messages and call logs grouped or individually.
I haven't explored it enough buy it looks good and the apps seem to restore just fine.
You could adb uninstall the apps that you don't want. There's also another university called rabbit that can relive system apps where tib fails to find the APK. I think this is due to data/app being restricted by Google for certain apps
