ASUS_A009 ZenFone 5 V500KL Live - Zenfone 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have this phone (ASUS_A009 ZenFone 5 V500KL Live) and I've yet to find a reliable resource to unlock the bootloader. I sure rooting the phone won't be a problem but the bootloader has been the time consumer today. Am I just missing something here. I've done every method I ran across on XDA pertaining to ZenFone. I am about to attempt to flash firmware with an image for the only other phone similar to this one (except the VZW part). I say that because when you look up "ASUS_A009 specs" in Google you'll get the V520KL but upne further investigation I found otherwise. There is talk about the ENG Firmware Allowing for OEM unlock through fastboot. I grabbing at air here.

Solution: Stuck at 50% when unlocking bootloader of xiaomi Redmi Note 3 SD.

I must be very lucky to have unlocked my phone after only one week after I got permission. I tried so many methods but always stuck on 50%. Before giving up and trying unofficial way, I give it last try and Woilaa I succeed. I did lot of research and I believe all information located in phone should be perfectly match to your MIUI ID/Forum settings in order to unlock your phone. So you will need below prerequisite.
PREREQUISITE (Exact what I have done to unlock my phone)
1) Go to your phone setting>My Account>Personal Info> and fill personal Information and Phone/Email. Now go to MIUI forum settings and fill exact data that you have fill up in your phone. (Including your forum username should be same as the name under personal info into phone setting).
2) Also check “Your device and MIUI version” under basic information tab. That should match with your Phone/MIUI version (when it perfectly matches stop upgrading your phone and try to hold MIUI version shows on forum setting, I unlocked my phone on Global MIUI8 stable V8.0.2.0.LHOMIDG).
2) Go to password tab (MIUI forum) and setup security check-up bar to 100% (by setting up 3 secret questions).
3) Add recovery email and recovery phone here (should same as Phone setting).
Now wait at least week after you got permission (I got it one 28-Sep and succeed on 6-Oct, exact after a week)
After week try this method to unlock:-
1) Disable Driver signature enforcement.
2) Remove all locks/patterns fingerprint. Also remove app lock and disable it.
3) Go to developer option and check USB-debug and OEM unlock (if already check then uncheck and re-check it).
4) Go to i.mi.com login with your id (same procedure mentioned all over internet) and check device shows online or not.
5) Check your device is online (should be "Online located just now") IMPORTANT WHEN YOU REFRESH FIND DEVICE BUTTON, YOU SHOULD NOTICE YOUR PHONE SCREEN FLASH or BLUE ICON OF "LOCATION SET BY GPS/SEARCHING FOR GPS" ON NOTIFICATION BAR. (I believe if this happen means your phone is successfully connected to MIUI servers, I failed before many times when I was online but never notice flash/blue icon until last time I succeed)
6) Run unlocks app with “run as administrator” and login with YOUR MI ACCOUNT ID not with your phone number or email.
7) Unlock the phone.
Hope this help anyone
Every time I brick my phone by messing up partitions and I will fire up miflash and flash through edl. I will reboot the phone and will go to fastboot mode directly after flashing. I will launch miunlock tool and clock unlock, even though I didn't even boot up the phone, it will unlock the bootloader. I did this more than 10 times and worked fine. No need to remove app lock, fingerprint, etc. The OEM unlock option in developer options should be enabled to unlock. I think the mi credentials are stored permanently in some place. I am trying to figure out that place where it stored the credentials.

You are right, MI must have stored the credentials somewhere. I think most of people stuck for the first time. Once you unlocked bootloader, it's easy to unlock again. So may be you were lucky to not faced problem at first try and now you are able to unlock it 10 times.
I think, Mi utilises a digital key similar to those used by Microsoft to activate Windows 10 licences. Once you sign in on a device with a certain Mi account, the server on Mi end ties the IMEI and Device serial number to that account. And, this is the information the MiFlashUnlock searches for when you log on to it. Of course, once you have unlocked your phone, that information too is stored on the server-end, enabling you to unlock your phone multiple times, if it ever gets relocked.
This is my hypothesis anyway. I may very well be wrong.
And, I think the key to unlocking is to remain on the same MIUI version for more than 7 days on a stretch. I did just that and voila, the unlock worked.
Yes, but mine finally unlocked immediately after installing the global dev ROM. It would never get past 50% on 8.0.1, 8.0.2, or 8.0.5. I think there are several factors ( bugs) that cause it to fail, and that those factors interact in various ways that no one here fully understands. So we get all of these elaborate processes that work for a couple of people, but then fail for many others. Oh well.

Yeah, I understand your frustration. I gave up waiting and used the procedure to flash ZXC TWRP with a locked bootloader. It worked perfectly and I was able to install SuperSU and Xposed on MIUI. I tried officially unlocking one last time after that, and it worked. Go figure.
Good luck.
Current account is different from the account on device.
It's been a month after getting official permission.

Yes, it happens. I got unlock permission on 13-August-2016 but was able to unlock only on 07-October-2016. So, I don't really know how long it will take for you to be able to unlock your device.
One thing you can try is to not update MIUI for about 15 or so days and then try to unlock it.
Will wait and keep checking every few days.

Have you check MIUI version mentioned on your forum setting is same as your device or not. I believe verification of device fails because information stored on Mi servers not matches to your device. So better option is maintain MIUI version shows on forum with your device at least 5 days and stop upgrading your phone once it matches (keep phone connected with Internet during these days so server can interchange data with your device). Good luck.

Well, we build many hypothesis how Xiaomi unlock phones. But it is fact that Xiaomi software sucks at unlocking, rather they should have mail us unlock code like motorola does.

He mentioned he had to add phone number in forum same as in phone setting. Also match device model on forum settings. That is true, what I try to point out in this post is you need all information perfectly matches between miui server and your device (some unmatched information like miui version, phone no etc works for some people and some not work). In a nutshell, try to match all information saved on device to miui forum settings. It should works.

I think we should try at max. those steps which we have control like flashing global dev, having only one sim also in the 1st slot for which we've got permission etc. just to maximize your chances of identifying yourself in the server.

No, nothing happens. The bootloader just remains locked, that's it. The phone continues to function as before.

LG G5 RS988 Removing RAC (rent a center) remote locking software

Hello,
I hope this post is not against the rules, but I believe I found out how to remove the Rent a Center tracking and locking software that I believe if from computrace that is installed on our devices. It acts like a root kit that automatically reinstalls itself and has a device administrator profile that you can not remove.
I think I figured out how to get rid of the RAC (rent a center) lock for good. The rac lock uses a system administrator profile along with a program called sec.abt that can not be removed or frozen. If you manage to uninstall it is just reinstalls itself. I was not able to find any information on how to remove this without using special hardware like an octopus box that costs hundreds of dollars.
I used LGUP with the uppercut modification (can be found here on XDA) along with the KDZ files from here https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-rs988-firmwares/
I was only able to find the USA RSS 11C firmware until I found the page linked above with the BPT 10D firmware. Whenever you flash the stock 11C USA firmware the RAC program comes back and once connected to the net will lock your device, however if you use LGUP and uppercut to flash the BPT 10D firmware using the upgrade option (refurbish will error out) I found that my device booted correctly and seemed to work, however I did not have any fastboot options and it said there were no updates available (you need fastboot to unlock the bootloader and the latest update grants that ability). I then reinstalled the USA 11C firmware and to my delight found that the RAC software and device administrator profile were gone.
I then checked for updates and it started download the latest update. I believe I will not have a problem unlocking the bootloader and rooting from this point on. I'll let you guys know if anything changes.
I'm only posting this because I have been sitting on a RAC locked phone for months that got locked over six months after I bought it used and really hope this can help someone else that got screwed over.
Bought my phone almost a year ago off ebay woke up yesterday to this RAC device lock. This worked for me thanks.
Well done..
This happened to me after buying a device off of ebay.. thankfully RAC lock happened within a couple of days and I was able to use the ebay return policy.. I'm gonna pass this on to the dude who sold it to me as he got conned as well.. I verified the original RAC owner with RAC.. the device was purchased in Puerto Rico..
Cheers!
I'm trying to do same with V20 (us996) , but there is only one firmware avaliable :| no older or newer firmwares
Nothing seemed to happened after I tried to flash back to stock using either file. Do you know what I might have done wrong?
EDIT: It works now. Not sure what happened buy after my 7th attempt, the flash went smoothly and I was able to follows inaudible101 instruction to remove RAC lock. Thanks for the help!

If you go into safe mode you can turn on USB debug as well as enable OEM unlock. You can normally get into safe mode by holding power button like your going to shut it off only hold the power off till a screen pops up. Select turn on and phone will reboot into safe mode.

Downgrade to unlock FRP lock?

Coming from GNote 3, totally new to LG devices.
Locked Verizon G6 V988T has Google FRP lock, trying to remove it.
After going through frp unlock process and getting to file manager, bringing up settings I am getting a reduced version of settings. Options are wifi and data only; and if you click more there's only bluetooth and hotspot. And that's it. So I have no way of enabling install from unknown sources, so that I can install slide.
When I use the other method where in chrome you search for a business number, hit call and it brings up the dial pad so that you can dial service menu, there's no response. Even dialing imei does not bring the imei ID number. Seems this is disabled too.
I have no idea what software version is installed currently but it seems those two options/routes have been disabled/blocked. So my thinking is to downgrade to 7.0, follow the FRP unlocking procedure. Then install TWRP, root it.
I cannot properly ID the correct older kdz file for this phone.
1-Can you guys confirm if my steps are the way to go in order to be able to unlock frp, and,
2-a link to the correct kdz version for this phone?
Took a while/couple of tries but mission accomplished.

OEM Unlocked and device uncertified

Hello yall,
So as many of you should already be aware that the OEM Unlock missing button is kinda permanent in Bootloader U4/August Update. So no matter how long; you cannot get passed the jail time.
I have been looking forward to lock back my OEM lock to be able to use Google Pay and have my device certified in play store but I cannot turn it back on and it's a security flaw in my opinion as locking OEM means tighter security actually.
I have got in touch with samsung technician and they confirmed the feature is removed in the current update and there is no work around.
I have tried flashing combination Rom for U4 Bootloader but OEM Unlock is still missing in dev options.
Now the question is; Has anyone in this big world found a solution to this? To turn OEM Unlock off in Bootloader 4?

(TMO) OP 7T Pro McLaren 5G - Bootloader unlocking, OEM Unlock setting greyed out?

Hello everyone. I'm just getting my new device situated and, knowing that unlocking the bootloader often requires a factory reset, I thought to make that one of my first tasks with my T-Mobile McLaren 5G. I was able to successfully activate the Developer menu but when I went there, I found that the OEM Unlock setting was not only off, but greyed out and unable to be enabled! If I'm correct, enabling OEM Unlocking in the Dev menu is the first step to unlocking the bootloader, before connecting via ADB or using some sort of toolkit.
I called T-Mobile to ensure this was not their doing and according to their rep (after getting transferred from CS, to a tech, to a senior tech) apparently this is not something they have control over ; they can unlock the phone to use other SIMs but don't have anything to do with the bootloader, the ROMs etc. They suggested contacting OnePlus and gave me an 800 number, but I thought I'd check with the community first just in case.
Should this OEM Unlocking option be capable of being enabled? Is there a way to unlock the bootloader without this step? I'm a bit out of date on the current state of unlocking / custom ROMs and the like - is there any sort of open source GUI (or for that matter, CLI) based toolkit for easily flashing/unlocking bootloader and other tasks? There used to be some tools available for older Nexus, Pixel, and OnePlus devices a few years back but the older ones I recall don't seem to be updated since then. If not and it all needs to be done manually, do we still use the Android SDK Platform Tools (I assume you don't need the whole Android Studio or even Android Studio CLI)?
Regarding T-Mobile, there seems to be some discussion about certain OnePlus devices requiring a code from OnePlus itself via ( https://www.oneplus.com/unlock_token ) in order to unlock the bootloader? I don't remember it being this much trouble with past earlier devices (including Nexus and OnePlus)! Is this step required or is there a workaround? Regardless, even that page describes being able to toggle the OEM Unlocking setting before anything else, so something seems to be of concern. Ideas? Thanks!
The device sim unlock for the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren is hidden in Settings-->SIM & network-->ADVANCED Network Unlock; it doesn't have a separate magenta colored unlock app icon like some older T-Mobile phones do. But, the rest should be similar to the T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro process https://www.xda-developers.com/unlock-bootloader-root-oneplus-7-pro/
After the permanent device sim unlock is completed, the OEM unlocking option should no longer be greyed out.
