I've been using that apk for months because my OP7 was "stuck" on a Play System version that was several months old, but I just found out that it doesn't actually update Play System - it merely changes the displayed DATE to make it look updated. That also explains why it's only 21kb and why it never prompted for a reboot like the actual update does.
Any idea how/where to get the real thing? Seems everybody and every link point to that (bogus) update

Does this .apk actually provide any of the content updates or is it only updating the date displayed?
As mentioned, seeing how the official update requires a reboot and is usually >10MB while this.apk doesn't need a reboot and is a measly 20KB, I doubt it's usefulness (and even suspect it)...

Its true, foundout it recently its just changes number but real app contan specific changes. After using this fake update twice it got fixed and now I can normaly update it few days after updating mountly

Apparently the only way to remove this app after installing it is to use ADB, so I'll leave the command here in case anyone needs it.
Code:
adb uninstall com.google.android.modulemetadata

So that command is to uninstall the sh... of the "Main Components" from apkmirror?
I tried in May since mine was stuck on January or February but i found it "suspicious" since it's a really small file. Then i saw people saying that it only changes the date on the Google Play System Updates and not actually update it.
Now we're on July and mine remains with 1st of May

So anyone that installed the crap from apkmirror found how to solve this situation (deleting the apkmirror fake update and get the real one)?

Anyone???

How did you got it fixed? Was only by using the apkmirror "solution" and then it began to update automatically?

In the past I've done this and it worked yes. I do however fear just loading some random apk nowadays more because of all the malware that's alive out there. :/

I used that "fake" apk earlier this year and never uninstalled it. But tapping on the Play System Update and "Check for updates" eventually sorted my device - now it gets the update monthly (with the exception of July which Google seems to have skipped). I do however check manually all the time since there's no logic as to which day/date the update appears.

Ok, thanks!
Cheerd

Hello! Do not install manually this will damage the phones. I manually installed motorola one action on my phone and now it shows me September 1, 2021, not August, and what is strange is that it updates this application and remains on September 1.

Hey guys I also installed the same apk from apk mirror and later on found out in here that it is not as genuine as it seems.
I would like to ask if by installing the apk, will it hinder me from getting future software updates??
Please help since I cannot find a way to uninstall it

Mine is OP 7 and also still on August now ... looks like Google is skipping the September update just like it did the July one. I wonder if for some odd reason they're only updating every 2 months now?
I'm almost sure that the age of your device is unrelated to Play System Updates since they have nothing to do with your device security patches

Initially, I was receiving monthly patches as samsung's update schedule until I missed the July update but updated to the August update while the google play system update still remained to the June 2021 patch...
Has that affected you monthly device software updates?

What software updates lol? I'm staying on OOS 10 because I can't stand Android 11, so I haven't gotten any (device/rom) updates since this spring as they are done updating the "old" OOS 10.
I used to get the Play System Updates monthly but now they seem to skip every other month, no idea why. It's with everybody though, nothing to do with you or me. Guess we just have to be patient and wait for Google to get back to a monthly update schedule

[Q] Tricking Android Market and avoiding Incompatible App message

Alright guys.
I'm facing some issues here... Facebook has updated or something and now it doesn't show up in the 2.2 Market. 3.4 Market shows it but it says it's uncompatible and I can't install it.
Espier Launcher (another app I like) has two versions. 2.1 shows in 2.2 market. Both show in 3.4 market BUT the first one, even though it says it works for 2.2 and above, the market says it's incompatible.
This is a very big PITA because I'm tired (yes, TIRED) of trying apps that aren't compatible and they work very happily on my Magic, so they should stop the fuss and let us install everything and let us decide if the app works or not... it's not google's problem to solve, but the app developer's instead.
Now, I'm working on this and I need your help. I've had *some* success with making the device think it has GB installed instead of Froyo, however, the market crashes upon loading (the same goes for Maps which randomly FCs upon reboot).
---
On a sidenote, for the ones who go like "Y U USE FROYO D:" go flash my ROM and find out why, and ALSO it doesn't make a difference in this issue so don't tell me that it does because I've already tried this in other CM7-based ROMs.
---
I've found out that some of the build.prop properties (specially ro.build.* and ro.device.*) can fake this out to make some apps available. I've also tried to change the LCD density but it doesn't make any difference. The idea is to find out a good matching fingerprint which works for all apps (or for most, if possible).
I'm willing to give a go at your suggestions and tries and share my findings. That is, if you guys are willing to help me in this endeavour, too .
Any thoughs, suggestions, advice, etc. are greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance
- DARKGuy
I'm having the same problem. the annoying thing is that I used most of the apps that are now incompatible with my device.
Hey, really? That seems to have happened to me too. I wanted to install alarmdroid last night and somehow it didn't appear in the market. I assume it's because it's incompatible now. I mean... WTF?

Oh, I've seen that link but I didn't give it much testing. However I'm trying it both with old market and new, clearing cache/data from market/google services framework and such and it doesn't seem to work. At least, NOT that fingerprint. I've tried a GB fingerprint and it causes some FCs on Maps and Market, so there must be something in that fingerprint which doesn't trigger a change or something.
Hehe, I'm really glad you two like and use the rom my ROM makes couples happy, yay XD!

Yes, I've also tried 2.3 Market (which I've just found and I'm gonna use as a new market) and it doesn't do anything.
I've also tried clearing cache/data from GSF & Market prior to testing all these build.prop changes. Something is really effed up there in the market :/
No success
I tried all these changes in build.prop and even tried changing the build.prop before installing the ROM again. this method does not seem to work.
I have 1 question. why do we have a build-SAPHIRE.prop? does it do anything or just a backup?
thanks

I'm looking for info on the Froyo market now. It seems the solutions are a bit different, so I'm trying them out now
Hmn, now that you mention it... I've put it in all the ROMs I've tried or used back when I was editing GingerYoshi and making this ROM because I think it added some info needed for the phone. Looking at it now, it seems to be somewhat of a culprit, so I've removed it and I'm gonna give these solutions another try now, so thanks for pointing it out!
It also seems like clearing cache+data from Download Manager helps too, along with Google Services Framework and Market. Or so I read somewhere

OKAY... it seems that the Market caches data on the server too, associated to your google account.
Now, this problem only seems to appear if you install Market 3 and then go back to Market 2, if you do, the apps flagged as incompatible will disappear no matter what you do. At least, that's how I messed up my market... but I did so AFTER uploading the 0.3.8 U1 so it's weird that some of you have got the same problem.
The idea seems to make Market clear the data once it's downloaded on the phone and by consequence clears it when it synchronizes with the web server (it's just a theory), which seems to fix the issue.
There IS a solution and this is the working one:
1. Go to manage applications, all tab.
2. Go to market, clear cache, data and force stop
3. Go to Google Services framework, clear data and force stop
4. Edit the following build.prop lines to be the following (Some of these lines may already be correct)
ro.build.id=GRJ22
ro.build.display.id=GRJ22
ro.product.name=soju
ro.product.device=crespo
ro.build.description=soju-user 2.3.4 GRJ22 121341 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys
5. Reboot phone, and give it a bit of extra time to startup before opening the market.
6. Open market, agree to TOS.
7. Go to manage applications, all tab.
8. Go to market, clear cache and force stop (DO NOT CLEAR DATA)
9. Go to Google Services framework, clear data and force stop
10. Open market, and you should get an error. (This is good)
11. Restart phone again.
This is taken from ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133702 ) (THANKS! btw ^^).
Now, following these steps is VERY, VERY important. You must repeat all of them (except editing the build.prop if you've already modified it) until you get the error as in step 10 and reboot the phone. If you can't see the apps again, well the workflow is the following one:
1. Clear all data/cache/etc from market/gsf.
2. Go back to market and see if the LICENSE TERMS appear. If they don't, reboot, clear data, etc. until it does.
3. AFTER the license terms appear, do steps 5-11. The "DO NOT CLEAR DATA" warning is VERY important, else IT WON'T WORK.
Now... for FroyoDragon, I'll post an updated version and a fixed build.prop for ya guys maybe tomorrow or around this week ^_^. YAY!
Also, it seems that removing the build.sapphire.prop file helped in the process of market detecting the build.prop changes, so kudos to badikhi! ^^
Congratz...
This is great news. and I'm always happy to help.
I have 1 request. can you include google talk in the next release of the dragon?
thanks
darkguy2008 (or anyone),
Any idea if this works on other phones, ie Evo 4G? I have seen other posts which edit the build.prop but the changes are specific to a phone.
I had to do this to my phone, a Droid 2. Several apps I used to have would not download again becasue they are now magically incompatable even though they worked just fine before.
Anyway, I went through the steps a few pages up. All I changed in build.prop was model and manufactuer. I changed it to Nexus S, and Samsung. The apps are now showing back up on my phone. However, when I go to market.android.com on my computer, it was still showing as the droid 2. I removed it, but now its not showing any devices for my account, so I can download from the market that way.
Ill give it some time and download a few apps and see if the servers get updated in a bit. But, at least from the phone, this works great.

In theory it should, just as long as you have build.prop. Look at what the guy with the Droid 2 did and it could help your phone too. I'm really impressed to know that it doesn't work on the Evo 4G, which is a fairly recent phone... :/

Hmm, I've got a few doubs now:
Do any of you see Google Talk in the market? along with Facebook, AlarmDroid, Google Maps and such? if you can see those apps, can you share your build.prop? THANKS!
I also have a few questions:
1. Does this happens on GingerBread markets/ROMs?
2. Does this happens on devices which have Froyo or GB as stock ROM? (such as recent devices)?

You can't see Google Talk in the market. It's not there. That's the reason I asked you to include it in your ROM. you have to take it from the gapps zip. If you need a gapps for froyo I can send you the 1 I use with your ROM and it works for me.

Yes I did, but the market's still screwed up so it's a matter of luck. If it doesn't then try the steps here and it should.
Another thing I did was to apply the 160 density update.zip right after flashing FroyoDragon 0.3.9 then went into the market and it seems it did the job, then I went back to 135 and it's still working cool.

[request] effective method to prevent OTA updates

Since every method proposed in the thread over in the General forum to prevent updates doesn't work, even having custom TWRP recovery, i'm reaching out to the developers to ask for help on this. I suspect ADCP is involved myself but have no way to trace it.
What if I set /cache to read only? That apparently is where the .bin gets written to by whatever process downloads it, and from there it's read by recovery. Is /cache used by anything else on a typical Android system?
Not everyone wants to use CM7 but that appears to be the ONLY thing that "breaks" OTA updates. I'm sure there's some link in the chain we could interrupt to stop this creeping menace. I'm sure i'm not the only person with 6.2 rooted sitting here with wifi off!
Just a suggestion, but if you set the folder kindleupdates on the sdcard to read-only (it's where updates are downloaded to), would that break OTA updates?

Unregistered fires will not get OTA updates. Renaming com.amazon.dcp.apk to com.amazon.dcp.apk.bak will unregister your fire but you will be able to sign into and use all of the amazon services individually.

I just went to do that in File Expert, and I don't have a /system/etc/otacerts.zip.
Any other possible locations for that file? I'll try it.
Edit: Found it in /system/etc/security. It has a 1.6kb file called releasekey.x509.pem in it. Renamed to otacerts.bak
Edit2: Just to be safe, moved the file to my sdcard and deleted it from /system/etc/security. Rebooted ok, temp unrooted, Amazon Videos works, my books work, everything seems ok. Note that I am also one of those who disabled OTASilentInstall as well though that doesn't seem to have mattered for some.

Interesting, I wonder if they recently unregistered it,after the update had already downloaded and was just waiting to install. My fire has never been registered and has never seen an OTA, in fact a couple of amazon techs told me that it was unable to be updated while unregistered. Although now that i think about it, I can't imagine amazon techs know anymore than anyone else
Wrong forum... Rename /system/etc/otacerts.zip does help.
this would be great. at least then we could edit the binarys before updating to include FFF and TWRP.

Yes, Jayce, but there are people reporting use those methods and still getting the update.
I added another layer of protection, the program Droidwall. I allowed Amazon Apps and Amazon Videos plus a bunch of others but did not allow ADCP. Now if I browse to Amazon App Store, buy an app, it no longer pushes to my Kindle, despite the web page saying just go to the Amazon App store App on my kindle and it would download automagically. I had to manually initiate a download of the app. So either otacerts.zip or firewalling off ADCP disabled remote push of apps -- and hopefully disabled remote push of updates, that part remains to be seen.
new method
new method (not confirmed yet i think)
Kindle Fire 6.2.1 breaks root and you cannot re-root. To prevent this, simply install DroidWall. If you are afraid of downloading the update and want to keep wifi disabled, just do a google search for Droidwall.apk and sideload.
Once installed, launch Droidwall. Make sure the mode says "Mode: White list (allow selected). You will have to manually select which apps to give Wifi access to (I selected Email, Browser, Netflix, and Amazon Video on Demand). You should only select the apps you REALLY want to give access to. Then hit Menu and Apply Rules. Enable Wi-fi, and you should be good.
I tested while running Wireshark and watched the bandwidth according to my Tomato router - no more huge files being downloaded.

Has your log of the app shown you anything?
Where does it log to?
This works if you rename OTASilentInstall.apk to OTASilentInstall.apk.bak and apply the rooted 6.2.1 update. NOTE when you apply the update you have to rename the apk again.

the app has a log file you can turn on. You view it via the app under more in settings of the app.

new method (not confirmed yet i think)

I was using the Droidwall method all day yesterday and today only allowing Netflix, Youtube, Pandora, Spotify, Onlive, Dolphin HD and Market Place wifi access and Just a few minutes ago my kindle was attempting to download and install the update while I was pushing a few apps and I did adb reboot and before it could finish and I'm still at 6.2 but now I've just disabled all wifi access which sucks.

Installing GAPPS without safestrap

Hello everyone,
i would like to install gapps (xposed, HDXposed Framework and app already installed) without safestrap (I would like avoid modification of the build.prop and risking bricking my device). However, in the Forum I found only stuff to Flash with the means of the safestrap. Which Version of gapps suits the fireos and where could I download it
Kind regards

Good advice. Better yet:
Install a file explorer, and use the rootkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665683 to do the following:
install adb drivers and start Towelroot (consider donations to these fine developers who have helped so much on this board)
You can then install SuperSu and block updates.
With root confirmed, Install exposed frame work and module from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618158
Then go to http://the-digital-reader.com/2013/10/27/install-google-apps-kindle-fire-hdx/#.U58JISior8Q
and follow the procedure indicated for installing the three Google account apps.
Then download and instali the PlayStore app 4.3.10 from here: http://androidcowboy.com/android-apk-files-download/
Reboot. When you run the playstore app, you will be prompted to sign into your account. If you want other gapps and apps from that page, go ahead and install those too.
Results:
1. Functional Playstore access. Install any compatible apps you like.
2. Your google account will recognize your Kindle device, and track and update your apps.
3. All Amazon functionality and apps undisturbed
I haven't exhaustively tested all Gapps and Amazon features as of this writing, but everything looks trouble free thus far.
Update: No problems after several days of use. The only issue I've seen is that certain GAPPS don't appear on my playstore apps list (Google+ for example) and thus may not get auto updates, requiring manual updates if desired.

My solution to prevent ota update is to disable, e.g. to rename, the com.amazon.dcp.app. this solution worked for me with the last rooted version. When I execute update manually from preferences, then I get an error.
My config:
Apollo, 14.3.2.3.2
However, until the safestrap is updated I'll wait
Listen, the EASIEST way to install Google's apps & gain access to the Play Store with ROOT achieved on the device, is to SEARCH the forums for the Kindle Free app that was made for the Gen 2 Kindle devices. It was released a few years ago by Stericson, aka Busybox & Busybox Pro developer. He wrote it for his dad's HD & it still works to this day. Just install the apk & select the option to install market. It will download an older version of market & GMS & will then auto update to the latest version. All that is required is root, not a PC or laptop, & it has NEVER given me or the hundreds of KF, KF2 & KFHD users any problems. It also only installs the minimum for a working Play Store & the rest of the apps are either downloaded in the Play Store or can be selected in the app one at a time. It will be older versions, but it works & they will get updated once installed.

Wow, that's easy, and it's a solution a year and a half old!
As I recall a lot of old methods resulted in a bunch of Amazon services not working so that you had to do this or that and still you had this or that. Easy is not always best, I'd advise following earlgreys method.

I have the 8.9 HDX on the lastest firmware with prime music. I rooted it, then installed 1Mobile market. Once that was installed I installed the Kindle Free app from the mobile market. Installed play services. Installed Xposed and updated framework and modules. Once that was done play store updated and I installed the following google apps, google+, google hangouts, youtube, google drive and I have had no problems. All google and amazon services work. I can download, install and update apps from amazon or play store.

Kindle free works just fine. I expect people to have a little knowledge about what they need to do & don't expect to have to spell out every last detail. I have never used anything BUT Kindle Free with the exposed module for Gapps (well, when I am away from my PC that is), the rest of the time I use a script & wget to grab a gapps package & install it to my device via ADB.
I have had GAPPS on the latest update since installing the update & have had ZERO issues. Just make sure you boot after installing the framework & first four apps, then again after installing Market & the market update. After that you can sign in & after your third reboot, PS & GSF/GSM will update itself.

Looking forward to following the steps in this thread to root and install Kindle Free. Main reason is to use Google Keep and install xposed for split screen functionality. I just came out of airplane mode after a month and am updated. I am a Prime member and was expecting to see prime music on the menu. It wasn't there. Mayday told me that it would come to me shortly but didn't give me any indication as to how long it would take.
Question - If I root and block updates with Towelroot now, does that mean I can't ever use the Prime Music feature? That's a big one for me. If I do wait for it, will that ruin my chances of rooting?
BTW - you xda developers provide a great service and I am a happy donator.

The new music service appears to be a downloadable app and would thus be unaffected by root. FWIW, if future Amazon updates are desired, I'll be surprised if unrooting, receiving the updates, and rerooting won't be easily doable options.
Yeah, I cannot answer this. I have never blocked updates. I use a different method to force updates to always fail at install time.

i think every one with that issue, has a grandfathered free Google Apps Account
If that is the case no fix, but should work fine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63833958&postcount=27
if sign in hangs on connecting to servers, you may need to fix permissions for Google Play services
with an adb command
Enable Developer Options
Settings>Device Options>Tap on Serial Numbers several times>You are now Developer
Enable USB Debugging
Setttings>Device Options>Developer Options>Enable ADB>tap on toggle>Enable
Install ADB drivers
Setup adb.exe
Several options for this, one easy way is
[TOOL] [WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.2 by Snoop05
test adb in command prompt type
Code:
adb devices
press enter
should get a code return of something like
G000H404537702CP device
Note: if you get unauthorized, drivers are not correct
If you got a good code return
copy this code in command prompt
Code:
adb shell pm grant com.google.android.gms android.permission.INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS
and enter
there will not be any code return
retry signing in with google account
if play store fails to open reinstall
Google Play (com.android.vending-5.9.12-80391200-minAPI9.apk)

Once I finally got a 4.4.4 set of framework and account manager apks and ran the adb permission command I was finally able to get my google apps like gmail and chrome to sign in.
The Play Store app immediately crashes right after opening before loading anything.
Google Inbox loads up and displays a list of emails and then crashes.
Hangouts appears to work well so far for messaging. I haven't tried any of the calling features yet.
Chrome, Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Books, Keep, Maps, Keyboard, Youtube, Chromecast and Calendar all appear to be working properly. I haven't used any of them extensively yet but they all loaded up and performed some quick basic functions without crashing.
Longer Method
Download ES File Explorer from the Amazon Marketplace. It's free.
Allow Apps from Unknown Sources
Settings>Security>tap toggle>Ok

Google Play (com.android.vending-5.9.12-80391200-minAPI9.apk)
Google Play Services (com.google.android.gms-6.6.03_(1681564-036)-6603036-minAPI9.apk)
Google Account Manager (GoogleLoginService.apk)
Framework (GoogleServicesFramework.apk)
open with file manager
file manager will ask if you want to install
Rebooting is a good idea.
most likely you will need to grant special permissions for Google Play services

Yes everything works
Just install com.android.vending-5.9.12-80391200-minAPI9.apk
shouldn't need to wipe, or reboot...
I tried several things before it worked correctly
com.android.vending-5.9.12-80391200-minAPI9.apk is the last one I tried, but didn't update Mega folder.
Shadow, many thanks for this useful info and I now have Google Play working on Fire 7.
1, I downloaded the initial Google APKs
2, Installed them but Google Play would not load.
3, Unable to run suggest 'adb devices' command as using Linux and not Wintel platform.
4, installed [ com.android.vending-5.9.12-80391200-minAPI9.apk] onto Fire 7
5, Google Play and App install working
I have not tested any other features yet regarding Google Play.
UPDATE:
Not sure if there is a possible bug but when I try to install apps from Google store that I have already paid for I am prompted to pay again. The Google Play on my Fire 7 knows it is myself (it is logged in as me), as it is prompting for my card payment but it is not recognising I have paid for the apps previously.
The two apps I have tested are Google Analytixs and Aqua Mail Pro Key - both apps are not a one time purchase. I can install on as many Android based devices as possible.

What version of fire OS are you guys on? And is there a way to prevent updates? I dont want to let it auto update in case it breaks gapps and I'm hoping for root access to be available sometime.
Thanks to everyone for the files and info. I finally got google apps and the play store working! I think my problem came down to blocking updates from Amazon in my router and google 2-step verification. Once I turned of url blocking of Amazon updates, allowed fire os 5.0.1 to install, and logged into google on another device to confirm the attempted access from the fire was legit it all worked. Hangout calls, google maps, casting to Shield TV all work. Not bad for a $50 tablet. I'm probably going to block the amazon updates again just in case. Thanks again!

Chinese or english ?
Chinese ROM with English option. I received it via OTA 28th of December. I f*king hated it, and reverted back to 26s (previously I had 20s and it was a fine ROM).
My description of it is pasted below from another topic, but bottom line, it has a crappy folder interface, no entering/exiting animations, it's harder to return back from a folder, and it will screw google services.
If you go to the original topic and scroll down a little you'll see some screenshots I posted.
----------------------------------------------------------
Ok, my phone just updated by OTA yesterday from 20S to 28S (yeah, it jumped 7 updates, I know).
Well, the new update is a pile of crap:
1- After the 1,2GB update the playstore became corrupted. I tried to clean cache and data of Google services and playstore as I saw in a video, it didn't work. Then I uninstalled those 2 and google framework, and tried to install them with Google Installer (that app that installs the Playstore in chinese phones that don't have gapps). It installed them but it didn't work. I downloaded the most recent Google Installer apk and repeated the process, again it didn't work. F*cking seriously??
2- Some system apps now have splash screen ads which make you wait. Very professional, LeEco
3- The smooth zoom in / zoom out animations every time we entered/exited a folder are gone, now you enter one and can scroll sideways to get to another folder while their titles are in the top sliding horizontally, metro style. Worst even it's harder to exit the folder: before this update we clicked a free spot and it exited it, but now we have to tap a free spot in the right side to the "+" sign, or it won't exit, I have to put my finger all the way down to tap the back button.
And the turd in the top of the cake, when a folder is entered, the OS displays f*cking ads!! chinese ads, in my folders! Thankfully this can be disabled, but what the hell, Leeco?
4- The Phone Manager app is much more intrusive always complaining about cleaning, data plans and telling me to "accelerate apps"
5- A butload of more chinese apps installed
6- In the browser (that also has a splash screen), if I choose "other countries" as a location I loose the Bing and google options as search engines with only the chinese search engines available, so I have to set my location as USA (I'm in europe). If I wanted only chinese search engines I would have choose as my location, oh I don't know... China, maybe? What stupidity is this?
7- The folder icon now only shows 4 apps maximum, before it supported 9, which was much more useful
So, anyone else with these kind of problems, was your playstore app ruined too?
I'm planning to downgrade to a version without this stupid folder navigation system, and of course with a funcioning playstore. Which version is that? 26S? 27S?
I like the previous version and don't want to install "pure android" or buggy cooked roms.
I hope anyone can answer my questions, thank you and sorry for the rant

5.9.28S is cr*p...
My daughter received the 5.9.28S update for her X500 little over a week ago, i got it 2 days ago on my X620....
IMHO do NOT upgrade to that version because for the last few days i've been trying to get GApps to work on the
X500 and X620 (both unrooted) but Google Play Services will NOT work on 5.9.28S. My daughter is the
most unhappy girl in the world at the moment because every friggin app that needs Google Play Services doesn't work...
I've tried everything i could think of and i've tried a lot of solutions from the most well known places for these kinda
problems on the interwebs. Not ONE solution worked, both the X500 and X620 have been factory reset several times
and its the same story "Google Play Services stopped working" over and over and over again... Worst update EVER!
It's driving me NUTS!!! I need to revert both phones back to 5.9.23S or 5.9.26S.
@pipoawas
You can turn of the ads... Long press free spot on screen, go to "Desktop settings" and disable "Media recommend".
But i think you found that out already
*Edit:
Tried to revert to 5.9.23S on my wiped X620 with the file from LeTV.... It FAILS to install during recovery. What the ... I give up....
@Excorio
Yes, I know about disabling the ads, but we're still stuck with the splash screens and the hedious launcher: when exiting a folder, if the '+' sign is at the right with no space left at it's right side, you can't exit that folder without going down to the back button.
I discovered for myself how to make google services to work, and it wasn't from any solution on the web. Here, it's the 1st post. You will also have to do another extra step to synchronize your google contacts with the phone contacts (aka, getting your phone contacts populated with your google contacts, e.g. gmail contacts), if that's your case, or else the phone contacts will be empty. To find it just scrool a little down from that 1st post (it's the big "EDIT" in red).
Yes you can export the contacts manually in a csv file from google contacts to the phone contacts, but they will never sync: any change you do to one won't update in the other
One thing that's pissing me off is that I'm having trouble with the 26S:
In the google keyboard (gboard), even though I added my home language, it underlines in red any word from my language; even stranger, despite underlining them, it keeps suggesting them (so it knows them after all). Even worse every time I tap on a word the drop down menu pops up suggesting english words, despite the fact that I have set the keyboard to write in my language.
That and any keyboard I try (4 of them) completly freeze every time I try to update a comment in facebook. *Any keyboard*
So I tried to revert to 23S like you, and like you, it gives me an error. I tried 20S, another error (it's meant to be flashed in twrp only or something, I thought). Then I went to their official rom site (https://bbs.le.com/zt/eui/le_1s.html), with the kind of official roms that work with the original recovery (that I have), I downloaded the 13S, renamed to 'update.zip', tried to downgrade to it, and guess what, another error! With an official rom, with original recovery, in a phone that was never rooted!
F*CK YOU, Leeco!
EDIT: I just found out why 23s, 20s and 13s seem to be off limits, it's not that they're meant to be flashed with twrp, it's because of this (translated from chinese):
After the Android 5.0 (EUI and EUI versions under 13s and 13s) is upgraded to Android 6.0 (15s and above) , the underlying code logic of the system changes. It is not supported to roll back from Android 6.0 to the previous Android 5.0 version .

The 3 roms I mentioned before are Android 5.0. I guess the update to 6.0 (26s, 28s) changed something in the phone, I'm guessing it's the recovery, that now rejects roms from Android 5

To be honest, if i could get Google services running on 5.9.028S_12161 (Stable release) on my X620 i wouldn't mind the so called "improvements" of that update....
I have read your post about how you got it working... It was one of the first i read while searching on XDA I actually used the same installation package you mention in your post, that apk also gave me the same "corrupt apk error". I did what you did and still it wouldn't work on 5.9.028S, i read the post several times (lol) and tried to get it working serveral times but it failed. I then searched for another installer (more recent one called "Google Installer v2 for Xiaomi / MIUI Devices") and tried that one on 5.9.028S but that one also didnt work. After that i lost my patience, cuz i was trying for a couple of days already, and i went on the forum again to write the rant on this page https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...om-rom-to-official-stock-rom-5-t3725302/page3
While i was writing that post i was downloading 5.9.026S_06141 (Stable release) from this forum page https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-2/development/mtk-chipset-custom-rom-to-official-t3715691 I had NO hopes for it to work because of all the previous FAILS (grrrrrrr....) but i could try anyway right. So after downloading i copied it to my phone's root storage and renamed it to update.zip and started the update from withing the file manager AND i crossed my fingers also
OMG it worked! I now have 5.9.026S on my phone again. Then i used that same "Google Installer v2 for Xiaomi / MIUI Devices". It installed all needed apps to get stuff working. So after some installations and a reboot the Google Play Services was working again, no errors. I was able to access the Play Store and every other Google app EXCEPT for Gmail. I couldnt get Gmail running cuz Gmail popped an error saying gmail has a problem with google play services. So just to be sure i checked the Play Services version and it was 438 but i need 440 for my X620. So i updated Play Services to 11.9.51 (440-177350961) and i was able to get into Gmail again without any error. It was just a wrong Services version. Pfff....
Now my X620 is purring like a kitten on 26S again like before. The ONLY thing that's p*ssing me off is that i get a notification from an app thats installed on the phone called "Performance Monitor". If i run the Play Store for example the notification says "Google Play Store skip 48 frames!" (see image below). I have never EVER seen that before. This goes for any app im starting up or have running. The notification pops up now and again telling me some app "skipped xx frames."
What the heck is that thing and why is this happening? More importantly how do i make it go away?

Good to know you got it working, I guess my solution worked only for me (that, and your phone is X620 while mine is the X500)
To my surprise 23S seems to be Android 6.0, according to the "about phone". Then why the hell did it refuse to install??
Bear in mind that I'm almost certain that my "contact Sync solution" seems to be the culprit for my issue of only one language being recognized by the google keyboard; that or is an incompatibility with Android 6 and that particular Google Sync apk, because later I tried 13S rom, then Google Installer 1.3 which installed all the necessary apks with no errors (aka, no need to install a external apk for Google Sync), and the Gboard recognizes both languages.
You really like the "upgrades" of 28S? yacchh The default browser takes some 5 seconds before it even opens a website, because of 1, sometimes 2 (!) splashscreens. And really, what new upgrades does 28S has? being Marshmellow? big deal, I don't notice it in my daily life, so a previous version is fine by me.
About the "Performance Monitor", there's got to be a way to disable some notifications in the app, otherwise I recommend you disable all of the Performance Monitor notifications in the settings->notifications->permissions
That 48 frames thingy is new to me... are you sure you didn't activate something about performance either in the "Performance Monitor" or in the developer options?
Anyway, that's a chinese app, I suggest you disable their notifications like I described above with the "Performance Monitor", or even disable some of those apps altoghether (you can't do that with *every* chinese app though)
By the way, how did you update the Play Services to 11.9.51? you hunted for the apk online, or is there another method that I'm not aware about?
I don't like the "improvements" they made in the new version but it's not that i run into stuff i need to change. Also i use Chrome for browsing. The default browser is not that good imho and i have been using Swiftkey as a keyboard for ages and works great for me...
I can not set permissions for the "Performance Monitor". This app was already on the phone after i installed 26S so it must come with 26S? I also did not enable anything to make it come up with those messages. I'm also not able to set permissions for that app or disable notifications, the most ANNOYING thing about that notification is that the phone vibrates with it also... (See image below) and i can not uninstall it. If anyone has an answer to this Performance Monitior thing plz do tell cuz i cant find anything about it.
I did indeed hunt for the Google Installer online. Here's the page i got it from: http://www.teamandroid.com/2017/06/21/download-google-installer-v2/. The only problem with this one was that it installed 438 and not 440. I was not able to upgrade to 440 manually or thru the Play Store (I cant find it in my Play Store, dunno why) so i installed an app called "Play Services Info" from the Play Store. I've used that one before and always worked for me. The app shows what version you have installed and you can also upgrade from the current version to the latest version by tapping "PLAY STORE". (See image below). It then opens a Play Store page where you can download/install the latest version, you also have the option to download it from APK Mirror.
Another fun fact about the System Update app in 26S is that even if you disable Auto-update in Settings it will STILL download 5.9.028S and it WILL try to get the new version installed. I noticed this morning that it had downloaded it and it wanted me to update to 28S! No way thats gonna happen lol. Crappy thing about that update message is on the screen that you cant get it to close by using the back button for example.
So i just shut down my phone by holding the power button, i then connected the phone to my PC and powered the phone up. On my PC i went into the file system of the phone, deleted the update zip file from data\com.letv.android.ota. I went into settings and denied the storage permission for the updater app. Just to be sure i rebooted the phone and there's no more message about the update. I then opened the updater app and it said i had the latest version lol... It now thinks 26S is the latest version even if you tap the update button. It still recognizes 26S as the latest version so im confident 28S will never come by again in the updater...
gboard has a better prediction in my opinion, and that facebook issue also happens with swiftkey.
chrome is bloated and google is the new Big Brother now. I would recommend opera or vivaldi.
For the Performance Monitor notifications go to settings, notification management, see if you can find "Performance Monitor" and choose it. Also the Phone Manager app (the icon is a tuxedo ) has some permission settings that might be useful, including the disabling of apps.
If that doesn't work, then your options are either rooting your phone so you have permission to mess with that app at will, or get another ROM (26S, 23S)
You can also see the google play services version number in app management/google play services.
To delete new updates from the update app you just have to go to app management, choose 'system update' and wipe it's data (or cache); you will see that one of them has some ~1.3 GB of data.
I'm afraid the system update notification may appear again, I too denied storage and notification permissions, and that damn thing appeared to me again later. No promises , but try to wipe the data and cache from that app and never run it again, so it doesnt have any permissions (you still havent agreeded with its licence, you know, that popup "do you give this app permission to access blablabla")

So I upgraded to 26s, and I hated so I tried downgrading using flashing but for some reason my bootloader won't unlock so I upgraded to 28s. It's better than the 26s in my opinion, less bloatware than the 26s, new awesome camera, app drawer, improved battery life. My Gapps are working successfully, I downloaded them from here https://youtu.be/8VU270w99bA there are links in the description so no need to wait for it like he does. My calendar keeps crashing tho, and the splash screens are hideous, but I don't have a problem with folders because I was used to the app drawer before this, and now I have it again I don't use folder on the main screen anymore. Chinese ads are disabled (but seriously though what the freak??) And I think it's functional enough, at least until I figure out how to downgrade to my stock rom lol
Why did you hate 26S? is basically the same as 20S, but it lets you update the gallery, calendar and browser to the new 28S versions (it asks you for each app, sooner or later).
But I didn't update these apps since I like the old gallery with it's recycle bin, and the 26S browser already supports more than 16 tabs and doesn't freak out with the search engines and location
You prefer the app drawer? To each it's own I guess But it's hard to find the app you want in the middle of so many apps including system apps. Folders are a must, they're organized according to *your* tastes and your software designations.
The new camera still doesn't seem as good as the google's Open Camera app. At least it doesn't made that loud sound when taking a picture and it's faster than open camera specially in burst mode.
As for the locked bootloader, have you tried fastboot oem unlock in fastboot? From there you just have to copy the stock rom as update.zip (no caps lock) in the root of the virtual sd card, flash the original letv recovery, reboot, and the phone will flash the original stock ROM. Maybe you can do this through TWRP too, but I'm not sure.
For some reason I can't update to the 28S OTA (I have 20S), when updating it says "failed to update! Cause: corrupted"
I have the original recovery, the phone is unrooted (it was rooted before but I erased the system folder)
Why is this happening??
Also FYI, I want to update to this rom which I don't like, because my phone is having strange behaviours even after wipes and flashing the original roms:
Whatsapp and now Telegram often don't deliver the messages when the phone is idle (I have to constantly open the apps to see if there are new messages), and now another issue, those blue filter apps like twilight suddenly stop working and close (no banner in status bar, no "badge" icon, nothing"). I had this app working for a full year before, and now this happens, WTF?? the same happens wit hanother similar filter app.
It's like messaging and these filter apps get kicked from memory, (though still being shown in multitasking screen)
I have gave all permissions to all of them and configured them to autostart after boot
It's like something is roten inside the phone, and decaying further.... no amount of wipes and fresh installed roms will correct this. How in the hell is this possible?
